The 1960s and 1970s had their share of genre films that were popular with audiences. One of the most prolific was the biker film which, along with the horror film, were showcased to many audiences through the beloved and nearly extinct drive-in theatres. The genre reached a level of respectability in 1969 with the release of Dennis Hopper’s Easy Rider which played at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to gross an estimated 160 times its production budget of $375,000. Little wonder why producers and filmmakers alike jumped on the biker film bandwagon. Easy Rider helped put Jack Nicholson on the map following his appearances in Richard Rush’s Hell’s Angels on Wheels (1967) and the then-forthcoming The Rebel Rousers (1970) by Martin B. Cohen.
Lee Madden’s 1970 outing Angel Unchained came on the heels, or tires if you will, of Easy Rider and tells a familiar story that dates back many years,...

After Aston Villa failed to make a single signing in January new French manager Remi Garde will consider his future at the club, according to the Daily Star. He says there were financial constraints that saw him miss out on all of his January targets.
Garde says Villa moved the goalposts, deciding not to spend on the reinforcements who could have brought Premier League safety.
“Maybe it was not as clear when I signed, but it’s something that I don’t want to discuss too much. I understand that you cannot carry on doing the same things when you have not been as successful as you have wanted.”
“The situation of a team at the bottom of the table was not easy for players but that was not the only reason. It was also a financial problem. Probably the club realised mistakes has been made in the past,...

With just a couple of hours left in the transfer window, Middlesbrough have pulled off an inspired move in bringing Jordan Rhodes to the Riverside.
It had been thought that the deal was off earlier in the day when it was widely reported that Boro had pulled out, but the North East side have stuck to their guns and brought in one of the Championships best strikers.
He’s by no means a complete striker, but what he does know is how to put the ball in the back of the net, which will be increasingly important as Boro look to get back into the Premier League. If he can continue the good form he’s shown at Blackburn, he will be a big part of that promotion campaign.
The fee for the signing remains undisclosed though it was reported to be worth £9m plus add-ons,...

Connor Wickham has officially signed for Crystal Palace on a five-year deal, with the fee thought to be up to £9 million, according to the Sunderland Echo.
The 22-year-old completed a medical and discussed personal terms with the Eagles on Friday, but now the deal has now been rubber-stamped.
The former Ipswich starlet scored just 11 senior league goals in 79 appearances for Sunderland as he struggled to nail down a regular starting spot for a large chunk of his time on Wearside.
He also spent time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds before returning to inspire the Black Cats’ greatest escape with 5 crucial goals in less than two weeks to claw his team away from danger.
Since then he has failed to progress, managing just 5 goals all season while playing as a first team regular. His attitude and effort has been called into question by the fans rather than his ability,...

Time is running out for Aston Villa. They might not be in the bottom three – thanks in part to the abject performances of some of their rivals at the foot of the league – but they simply cannot score and the clanging chimes of doom are getting louder as every game passes without hitting the net. You cannot avoid relegation if you don’t have it in your side to decide your own fate, and that’s precisely the power of goals.
Right now Villa’s front-line looks thread-bare: Christian Benteke has gone from being a sensation to looking lazy, Gabby Agbonlahor looks more of a threat running from deep (and doesn’t score enough) and Andi Weimann has quickly become a figure of fun (at best) thanks to some comically poor performances this year. That leaves Darren Bent and Nicklas Helenius who are out on loan,...

By the looks of it Newcastle are switching their attentions to the Championship in their hunt for attacking reinforcements with reports suggesting we’ve opened talks with Leeds captain Ross McCormack.
Both the Yorkshire Post and the Shields Gazette have indicated that the Magpies have contacted Leeds this week to check up on the Scotland international’s availability following a turbulent campaign in which he scored 29 goals and emerged as a pillar of consistency at at Elland Road.
It’s understood that McCormack wants a crack at the Premier League as he enters his prime years and that he’s already informed the Whites of his desire to leave this summer following the treatment and subsequent departure of manager Brian McDermott.

An increasing number of Premier League clubs are turning to the Championship as part of their recruitment strategy with England’s second tier proving itself the host to a deep pool of talent evidenced by the smooth transition made by Southampton trio Jay Rodriquez, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana in the last two seasons, to name just a few.
Newcastle’s reported interest in Ipswich left-back Aaron Cresswell seemingly indicates that we are going to follow in the footsteps of our top-flight rivals and dip our hands into same pool after three frugal years spent ploughing the fields of France in search of Gallic bargains. A change of approach that would be well-received at St James’.

Championship team Blackburn Rovers caused the first shock of Fa Cup third round weekend when they held 2011 winners Manchester City at Ewood Park. Skipper Scott Dann earned a replay for Gary Bowyer’s side by cancelling out an Alvaro Negeredo goal.
Both strikes came from corners and now Manuel Pellegrini has yet another midweek game to plan for in January on top of two Capital One Cup semi-final legs with West Ham. City had Belgian defender Dedryck Boyata sent off at Blackburn for two bookings.
Rovers boss Bowyer handed ex-England goalie Paul Robinson his first start since December 2012 after a troublesome back problem and career-threatening blood clot on his lung. Top scorer Jordan Rhodes dropped to the bench prompting fears from home fans he would be sold.
D. J. Campbell also made way as Blackburn made three changes from their away win over Leeds.

Scott Dann cancelled out Alvaro Negredo’s 15th goal of the season as Blackburn Rovers battled back and held 2011 winners Manchester City in the first Fa Cup third round tie.
Championship club Blackburn will have to meet their Northwest rivals again at the Etihad in ten days’ time thanks to a goal from their captain. Dedryck Boyata saw red for City late on.
This was something of a slow burner, but Gary Bowyer’s Rovers contained the illustrious City names by flooding midfield. A couple of Dann headers from set pieces that went straight at Costel Pantilimon were all the hosts could muster in the opening half hour.
Paul Robinson, back in the Blackburn goal after over a year out, had little to do at first. He held a low Fernandinho effort and came smartly off...

Blackburn Rovers have never beaten Northwest rivals Manchester City since the Etihad outfit was taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008. These two sides, both former Premier League champions, will face one another in the opening game of Fa Cup third round weekend.
Bankrolled by Arab billions, City boast a recent record of six wins and three draws against Rovers. Prior to that, Blackburn managed five successive victories in this fixture – including their last meeting in the world’s oldest knockout football competition.
Mark Hughes masterminded that Fa Cup quarter-final win at Ewood Park in March 2007 with Aaron Mokoena netting the opener before being sent off. Matt Derbyshire later sealed victory for Rovers. Hughes later went on to manage City.
South African striker Benni McCarthy scored the only goal the following September when Blackburn last won this encounter.

Wayne Rooney is a surprise inclusion in the England squad for their clash with “The Auld Enemy” on Wednesday night.
The want-away United striker has played a mere 45 minutes in pre-season, and major questions will be asked whether a player with so little game time should have been included.
Aside from “Wazza”, it’s a vital preparation game for Roy Hodgson ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month. He’ll also have a chance to blood 31-year-old striker Rickie Lambert, the Southampton star who scored 15 Premier League goals last season is yet to be capped for England.
Scotland, under new manager Gordon Strachan, have been going well of late, winning 1-0 in Croatia courtesy of a Robert Snodgrass strike. Home Nations rivals Scotland and Wales will face-off tomorrow at Hampden Park, with both sides needing a win to keep any hope alive of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The two bottom sides in Group A met last October at the Millenium Stadium with Wales emerging victorious thanks to a Gareth Bale double. James Morrison had earlier scored for the Scots and Steven Fletcher had a goal disallowed but like much of Craig Levein’s tenure as Scotland manager luck was not on their side.
Chris Coleman also has not endured the best of times as a national team manager. However, he picked up his second win as Wales manager in February when Austria were beaten 2-1. This gives them some momentum going into this match. Scotland also have a new sense of optimism with former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan now at the helm and he will be...

The end of pre-season is fast approaching, Huddersfield decided to round it off in style with a home friendly fixture against Barcelona B. A total of seven thousand nine hundred fans witnessed a Town side lose to an extremely well disciplined Barcelona B team 2-0.
Despite showing some very good ball retention skills Huddersfield managed to hold off their opponents to the end of the first half where the scores were level at 0-0. Honours even at the break it was quite clear that a young newly formed Huddersfield side were finding it difficult to put together any sort of flowing movement to break through a stubborn Spanish resistance.
The usually bright Jordan Rhodes was unable to show his prolific form that he showed in League One and the ever hardworking Lee Novak was not able to grab a foothold in the game. The second period saw Barcelona make eight...

Fulham are determined to pick up Arsenal’s unwanted Russian winger Andrei Arshavin, who was recently given the go-ahead by Arsene Wenger to seek out a move away from the club after a string of inconsistent performances, Metro reports.
However, Arshavin did show promise this summer during his Euro 2012 performances for Russia, and has spent the latter half of last season on loan to his old club, Zenit St Petersburg, though he is not expected to make a permanent move back there from Arsenal.
Rather, Fulham are hoping that they might be able to reel him in, given that Arshavin is settled in London with his children attending school there. Otherwise, one wonders whether Barcelona, whose €15m offer for the forward was rejected in 2008, would still be interested in bringing him in as a squad player?
If Arshavin is to join the Cottagers, though, he would likely be expected to take a substantial pay cut,...

Once Paul Lambert’s expected departure from Norwich City is officially confirmed, and the former Celtic manager heads off to pastures new at Aston Villa, and failing a successful bid for Cardiff City’s Malky Mackay, the Canaries will find themselves faced with the prospect of sorting through multiple qualified candidates. But they would do well to ignore the same names who crop up every time there is a Premier League vacancy (Mick McCarthy, Alan Curbishley et al) and look into their recent past for a hugely promising candidate to take the reins and continue the good work Lambert brought to Norwich during their first season back in the Premier League…
Step forward Lee Clark, currently out a job after somewhat unthinkably being sacked by now newly-promoted Huddersfield, and doing some coaching work up at Newcastle United to fill his time. Young, hungry and full of passion, as well as...

Rickie Lambert was named Football League Player of the Year at an awards ceremony held in London on Sunday night.
The Southampton forward was among several players to receive early recognition for their achievements in the 2011/12 season.
Lambert, 30, has scored 25 goals in 39 appearances already this season and looks set to increase that tally with 10 games still to go. The Saints currently sit top of the Championship table and could return to the Premier League for the first time since 2005 if their good form continues.
Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes won League One Player of the Year as Swindon’s Matt Richie picked up the same honour for League Two.
Brighton manager Gus Poyet collected the award for Outstanding Managerial Achievement, after the Uruguayan turned League One Champions Albion into Premier League promotion chasers in less than a year.
Other contenders for the prize included Lee Clark, who was sacked by Huddersfield...

Of the three promoted teams, Norwich have undoubtedly been the most impressive so far this season: currently sitting in ninth position, and having held their own against some of the strongest teams in the division, including a killer four-goal performance against a wounded Newcastle United who had up until that point been the most frugal team in the league.
While Swansea struggle to turn their impressive attacking and passing play into goals and victories in some games, Norwich seem to have adapted to the demands of the Premiership far better: blending the style that saw them promoted with the maturity required to cement their position in the top division. A lot of praise must go to Paul Lambert, who has worked wonders since taking over at Carrow Road, and instilled a confidence in his team that has translated on the pitch in admirable style.
January can be an itchy time for newly promoted managers though,...

Holland took on Scotland in a crucial under 21 qualifying match as both sides hope to qualify for the 2013 under 21 Championships which will be held in Israel. Holland topped the group on nine points, before heading into this clash, whilst the Scots sat in third.
Scotland started the match very brightly as Celtic winger Jamie Forrest used his pace to create a yard of space down the right wing and delivered a loopy cross to in-form Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes, who made his senior debut for Scotland against Cyprus a couple of days ago, and Rhodes neatly headed his effort into the back of the Holland net on the 2nd minute mark. A perfect start for the visitors.
On 6 minutes Baratize, the former Arsenal forward, had a close range effort blocked by Mark Ridgers in the Scotland goal. The Scots kept possession well in the first ten minutes and made Holland work hard.
