The Electric Mayhem Band is breaking up after Disney+ canceled its latest Muppets show.
The streamer has axed live-action series The Muppets Mayhem, which comes from The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg, after one season.
The ten-part series was released in May but Disney+ never disclosed any ratings for the show.
The cancellation marks a blow for plans for a wider Muppetverse; Goldberg previously expressed interest in branching out using the classic IP, which includes some of Disney’s most recognizable characters.
It is the latest cancelation at Disney+ this year; other shows to have been axed include The Spiderwick Chronicles, which has since been shopped to Roku, National Treasure, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., Willow, Big Shot and Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.

The recent passing of Harry Belafonte — and the viral proliferation of a clip featuring the iconic singer/actor/activist crooning “Day-o” in front of a boat packed with dancing pigs — was a reminder of how many stars of a certain generation were at their most relaxed and ebullient as participants on The Muppet Show.
Some 44 years after Belafonte did The Muppet Show, the powers that be at Disney and the Muppet Studio continue to go out of their way to find avenues for Muppet programming that inexplicably avoid just doing The Muppet Show for a new generation. There’s a willingness to fritter this priceless brand away on tangential projects that vanish quickly and forgettably instead of bringing the characters and the A-list stars who love them together in one spoof-and-song-driven space.

Today in news that will totally make you smile (I hope!), I'm thrilled to be the one to remind you there's a new Muppets series coming to Disney+ -- one that takes a deep dive into the rockin' world of The Electric Mayhem Band, aka that band of Muppets that is a regular fixture in most Jim Henson properties. Cute, right? Needless to say, I'm ready for "The Muppets Mayhem"— and the trailer is a major reason why.
In the show's sneak peek, we get reacquainted with the band and find out they've made a mark on some of the world's most famous musicians, including Tommy Lee, Chris Stapleton, and Lil Nas X. But the trailer drops a bomb on us: the legendary group has never actually made a record together. This show chronicles what exactly happens on Mayhem's quest to finally produce an album, many years after the height of their music career.

By hosting the 2022 Christmas episode of “Saturday Night Live,” “Elvis” star Austin Butler made a stop on his awards campaign trail that quite a few Oscar winners have made before. Since 1976, 26 actors have gone on to earn academy recognition within five months of hosting the NBC sketch show, and one third of those bids have been successful. Considering examples from the last decade alone, Butler’s chances are much greater, and his hosting stint involved several wise choices that should only benefit him in the coming months.
Butler opened the 48th “SNL” midseason finale by delivering a short but sweet monologue during which he reflected on his career beginnings and dedicated the episode to his late mother. He then displayed his comedic talents in four live and two prerecorded sketches, embodying such characters as a temperamental white elephant participant, a George Bailey-esque Christmas movie protagonist, and one of five strange,...

Exclusive: There was an accident on the set of Disney+’s upcoming comedy series Muppet Mayhem late Friday night when a crew truck crashed into a tree on the edge of a cliff near Griffith Observatory, sources tell Deadline. We hear no one was hurt but the time of the accident, around 11:30 Pm, is likely to raise again Hollywood’s decades-long issue of long hours on set. According to sources, Muppet Mayhem has been filming for a few weeks consisting of long days.

Saara Chaudry and Anders Holm have joined the cast of the Disney+ live-action series The Muppets Mayhem.
Chaudry will star as series regular Hannah, Nora’s (Lilly Singh) younger and arguably more accomplished sister. Raised in the era of likes, shares, and the idea that “if it wasn’t posted, it didn’t happen,” Hannah translated her e-acumen and talent for enthusiastic and aspirational make-up videos into a burgeoning social media empire, complete with a legion of “Fan-a-Hannahs.” Her success has unfortunately upended her dynamic with Nora.
Holm was cast as recurring guest star JJ, a formerly sheepish, nerdy intern-turned uber-cool, tech entrepreneur who happens to be Nora’s ex. On the surface, his ambition knows no bounds, but the real JJ underneath still hopes to win her back.

Who says the musical is dead? The last 10 years have been jam-packed with effervescent, hilarious and melancholy movie musicals for moviegoers of every kind. Whether they incorporate their songs magically into the narrative or simply break at every possible turn for another gangbusters performance, these films kept a song in our hearts and married their wonderful tunes to memorable, sometimes completely unforgettable storylines. To each of these incredible films we say, “Bravo.”
Runners-Up (alphabetically): “Anna and the Apocalypse,” “Get On Up,” “Frozen,” “Jem and the Holograms,” “The Last Five Years,” “London Road,” “The Lure,” “Moana,” “Pitch Perfect 2,” “Tangled”
10. “The Greatest Showman” (2017)
The life of circus entrepreneur P.T. Barnum was nowhere near as sappy and sanitized as it appears in Michael Gracey’s “The Greatest Showman.” But then again, selling tickets to see an entertaining lie because the truth is inconvenient and/or grotesque is entirely in keeping with Barnum’s modus operandi.

This article marks Part 25 of the Gold Derby series analyzing 84 years of Best Original Song at the Oscars. Join us as we look back at the timeless tunes recognized in this category, the results of each race and the overall rankings of the winners.
The 2010 Oscar nominees in Best Original Song were:
“Coming Home” from “Country Strong”
“If I Rise” from “127 Hours”
“I See the Light” from “Tangled”
“We Belong Together” from “Toy Story 3”
Won: “We Belong Together” from “Toy Story 3”
Should’ve won: “If I Rise” from “127 Hours”
Best Original Song in 2010 marked one of the most deadly-dull line-ups to ever grace the category, a sleepy, entirely unremarkable batch of four songs that is exceedingly difficult to select a favorite among.
Voters, faced with this anemic foursome, opted to go with Oscar mainstay Randy Newman, awarding him a second Best Original Song prize, this time for “We Belong Together.

ABC loves the Muppets -- well, the network kind of likes them. ABC has ordered three more installments of the Tuesday night series, bringing the freshman season tally to 16 episodes. Other news shows have received full season orders for 22 episodes. So, is this good news or bad news?
Set in a mockumentary style, The Muppets follows the lives of the crew behind talk show Up Late with Miss Piggy. As you might expect, diva Miss Piggy is still driving Kermit the Frog and the rest of the gang crazy. The Muppeteer performers include Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobson, Dave Goelz, Bill Barretta, David Rudman, Matt Vogel, and Peter Linz.

Of the five Oscar-nominated original songs for the 87th Academy Awards, Selma’s “Glory” and Beyond the Light’s “Grateful” are the only songs that solely play over the end credits of their respective film. The other three songs — “Everything is Awesome” from The Lego Movie, “Lost Stars” from Begin Again and “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” from Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me — are all performed at some point during the film.
Now, that’s not to say that the end-credits songs aren’t relevant to the plot. Both “Grateful” and “Glory” stick with the themes of their respective films and summarize relevant events, even if they aren’t integral to each plot’s progression.

With the exception of Walter, a perfectly serviceable character who joined an ensemble already way too rich with personalities to add another, 2011’s “The Muppets” was sort of a perfect reintroduction to Jim Henson’s most famous creations: playing directly to the notion that Kermit and the gang were outdated, Jason Segel’s pet project highlighted their timeless appeal with a story as wholesome and yet subversive as the show and movies that inspired it. “Muppets Most Wanted” takes this resuscitated franchise in exactly the right direction, this time focusing primarily on the Muppets themselves and using Hollywood’s star wattage as a power source for punch lines. Picking up literally where the last film left off, the newly-reformed ensemble looks once again to Kermit (Steve Whitmire) for leadership. But despite his cautious attitude about reclaiming their status as superstars, Fozzie (Eric Jacobson), Miss Piggy (also Jacobson), Gonzo (Dave Goelz...

It is a downright disgrace that it took so long for the Muppets to recapture everyone’s hearts again. For some of us they never went away, with The Muppet Show a permanent fixture within our collections and the best of the previous movies permanently in rotation (especially at Christmas when A Muppet Christmas Carol is now a tradition). But Hollywood definitely forgot, after poor sequels and a distinct lack of fresh ideas undermined the fundamental appeal of Jim Henson’s characters, and unthinkably the puppets were consigned to a dusty backroom on an unused Hollywood lot.
But now thanks to Jason Segel, writing partner Nicholas Stoller and director James Bobin it’s time to play the music once again, and it doesn’t look like the lights are going to go out again any time soon. Because the team that have brought the Muppets back to the big screen,...

Blu-ray Review
The Muppets
Directed by: James Bobin
Cast: Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Amy Adams, Jason Segel, Chris Cooper
Running Time: 1 hr 38 mins
Rating: PG
Due Out: March 20, 2012
Plot: Walter (voice of Peter Linz) dreams of hanging out with the Muppets, and now with the help of his brother Gary (Segel), they have a chance of bringing Kermit, Miss Piggy and the whole gang together to save Muppet Studios.
Who’S It For? If you are nostalgic for the Muppets, you’ll be thrilled to see this film and hopefully share it with your whole family.
Movie:
Even the sunniest days can have a few clouds in them. That’s a line from the film, but it also captures exactly how I feel about The Muppets. For me, to watch a new Muppet movie makes it a very sunny day. It’s not a perfect film, yes there are a few clouds.
