Between appearing in a minor role for Doug Liman’s Road House, singing alongside Taylor Swift on the chart-topping hit “Fortnight,” and making history with the first-ever RIAA-certified Double-Diamond single, everything is coming up Milhouse for Post Malone. Not content to rest on his laurels, Malone is partnering with Michael Bay, Brad Fuller’s Platinum Dunes, and Vault Comics to create an all-new IP universe based on an original idea from the unstoppable auto-tune-loving artist.
According to Deadline, Malone’s idea is inspired by George Miller’s beloved thriller Mad Max: Fury Road and demonic horror films like Evil Dead. Post Malone’s universe is set in medieval Europe, where the only thing standing in the way of the horde of demons infesting the continent is a mysterious armored 18-wheeler seemingly sent back from the heavens.

Last August, we heard that Imagine Entertainment had picked up the film rights to Daniel Kraus’s “swallowed by a whale” thriller novel Whalefall (you can buy a copy at This Link) and now Deadline has a cool update on the project: 20th Century Studios has come out the winner in a bidding war over the Whalefall theatrical distribution rights, and Brian Duffield – who recently worked with 20th Century on the alien invasion film No One Will Save You – has signed on to co-write, direct, and produce the film.
Duffield is working on the screenplay with Kraus, and here’s the story they’ll be bringing to the screen: Jay Gardiner has given himself a fool’s errand – to find the remains of his deceased father in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Monastery Beach. He knows it’s a long shot, but Jay feels it’s the only...

Exclusive: In a competitive situation with multiple studios bidding, 20th Century Studios has reeled in theatrical distribution rights to Imagine Entertainment’s thriller Whalefall, based on the recently published novel by bestseller Daniel Kraus.
Aboard to co-write, direct, and produce the film is Brian Duffield, who has a strong relationship with 20th President Steve Asbell and his team, following their work together on the acclaimed sci-fi thriller No One Will Save You. Imagine snapped the book up for development in a pre-emptive film rights deal last summer, as we were first to report.
Published last summer by MTV Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Whalefall is described as The Martian meets 127 Hours. The book is about a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains who gets swallowed by an eighty-foot, sixty-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. When the great George A. Romero (my personal favorite of the “masters of horror”) passed away in 2017, he left behind an unfinished manuscript for a zombie novel called The Living Dead. Daniel Kraus was the author chosen to finish what Romero started, and the completed novel was published back in 2020. Now it has been revealed that Kraus has completed another unfinished Romero manuscript, resulting in a novel called Pay the Piper, which will be published on September 3rd! Copies are available for pre-order on multiple sites, including on Amazon.
Publisher Union Square & Co. gives the back story on how Pay the Piper came to be: In 2020, while sifting through University of Pittsburgh Library’s System’s George A. Romero Archival Collection, novelist Daniel Kraus turned up a surprise: a half-finished novel called Pay the Piper, a project few had ever heard of. In the years since, Kraus has worked with...

‘Pay the Piper’ – Daniel Kraus’ New Horror Novel Completes an Unfinished George A. Romero Manuscript
New supernatural horror novel Pay the Piper, set in a cursed Louisiana bayou, is heading our way later this year, and it hails from the minds of legendary director George A. Romero and bestselling author Daniel Kraus.
With 2020’s The Living Dead, New York Times bestselling author Daniel Kraus took on the Herculean task of bringing George A. Romero’s unfinished zombie novel to completion. Now, Kraus embarks on a final collaboration with Pay the Piper, in which the author worked closely with Romero’s estate to bring the horror master’s unfinished novel to light.

Daniel Kraus has worked with Guillermo del Toro on the novel Trollhunters, which inspired the Netflix animated series, and the novelization of The Shape of Water. When George A. Romero left behind an unfinished novel called The Living Dead, Kraus was the writer chosen to finish it. He has contributed a couple stories to the Shudder series Creepshow, a TV expansion of the Creepshow film Romero made with Stephen King. Now Deadline reports that Imagine Entertainment has picked up the film rights to Kraus’s novel Whalefall, which won’t even be on store shelves until August 8th. If you need an added incentive to read one of the summer’s most anticipated novels, Whalefall, here’s another: Deadline reports that an adaptation for best-selling author Daniel Kraus‘ novel is in the works.
The outlet reports that Imagine Entertainment has struck a pre-emptive film rights deal for Whalefall, which is scheduled to publish on August 8 by MTV Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
The novel’s plot follows “a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains who gets swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. It’s a tale about a young man who has given up on life — only to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places.”

Exclusive: Imagine Entertainment has struck a pre-emptive film rights deal for Whalefall, the next anticipated novel from best-selling author Daniel Kraus. The deal for the book option was reached ahead of its August 8 publication by MTV Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
Agreements of the sort are not frequently come upon these days, amid the SAG-AFTRA and the WGA strikes. The idea here is, of course, to develop Whalefall for the big screen, at the point when Hollywood is again back up and running. My to-be-read pile is shamefully big, but that never stops me from adding more. I cherish getting lost in a good book, but a novel is more of a commitment than chipping away at movies on my to-watch list. The conspicuously titled 101 Horror Books to Read Before You’re Murdered may make that stack of books to read even more intimidating, but it also helps narrow down which tales of terror are worthy of being moved to the top.
Following a foreword by Bird Box author Josh Malerman, writer Sadie “Mother Horror” Hartmann explains why you should trust her choices implicitly. As the owner of the horror fiction subscription service Night Worms and the editor-in-chief of publisher Dark Hart Books, she’s an unassailable authority on horror literature — even if she’s a self-proclaimed scaredy cat who rarely watches genre movies.

Cinedigm, Bloody Disgusting, and Screambox’s found footage nightmare The Outwaters opened in theaters this past weekend and one thing is for certain… it’s divisive.
Robbie Banfitch‘s film follows a foursome who set out to make a music video in the middle of the desert, and while their trip starts out uneventful, their peace is eventually disrupted by unexplained sounds, vibrations, and unnatural animal behavior.
What happens next is a mind-bending trip through terror that is nothing short of disorienting and absolutely frightening.
Critics have been raving (it’s “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes), but general audiences have been split on the chaotic nature of the film. For those who have yet to see it, The Outwaters is maybe the most frantic and abstract horror film ever made. I took my nieces, and while one didn’t like the Blair Witch vibe, the other was shaken right down to her core,...

‘Tis the season of gift giving, but when it comes to books, the choices can be overwhelming. This year has unleashed an endless selection of great options to fill those bookshelves, from fiction to graphic novels to nonfiction. Where do you even begin, you might be wondering?
These 13 books are excellent gifts for you or the horror-loving reader in your life.
Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives by Adam Cesare
Quinn, Rust, and Cole are still reeling from their traumas of surviving the Kettle Springs massacre when it seems to be starting anew. It’s a breakneck slasher sequel that doesn’t waste any time getting to the action and suspense. Cesare understands slashers- and, more importantly, slasher sequels- and crafts a strong narrative around the hardened survivors from the first novel. In true slasher sequel style, the body count is higher along with the brutal deaths that hurt.

"We're facing the end of the world..." "So what do we do?" Since its inception five years ago, Guillermo del Toro‘s fantasy series “Tales Of Arcadia” has grown into a franchise behemoth for Dreamworks Animation. Its three different shows on Netflix have earned countless Daytime Emmy, BAFTA, and Annie Award nominations. The critical success has spawned a series of YA novels, two comics, and a videogame. That’s not too shabby for a project that started as a book del Toro and Daniel Kraus collaborated on in 2015 in hopes that a studio would greenlight it as a series.

Suzanne Desrocher was tending bar in Toronto when she noticed that the tall guy with white hair was becoming a regular. “I had spied him and thought he was some kind of an artist.” She didn’t know who he was at first. An ex-boyfriend finally made a proper introduction one night. His name was George A. Romero and he was in town making the movie Land of the Dead, then in post-production. Did Suzanne wanna come over and watch it? “I was a bit nervous about it. I’d heard he was a zombie director and that wasn’t my kind of thing, I thought it was gonna be trash. I wanted to polite,” she said with a laugh. “He shut the TV off and said, ‘What did you think?’” I told him, ‘It’s not that bad!’ He roared with laughter. I couldn’t have reviewed the film better.

“The Living Dead” by George A. Romero and Daniel Kraus is an all-new epic story from the horror master, continuing his roots going back to “Night of the Living Dead,” but taking it in all new directions. Romero did not complete the story before his death, so his widow, Suzanne Desrocher-Romero, asked frequent Guillermo del Toro collaborator and lifelong Romero fan Kraus to help finish complete the book.
In this passage below, we meet a survivor named Greer Morgan 15 years after the rise of zombies that almost wiped out all of humanity. We also get a taste of what the world has now become and what Greer does daily to protect herself and keep on going.
Readers interested in “The Living Dead” can learn more about the book by watching Kraus and Desrocher-Romero discuss the project and Romero’s legacy during their Comic-Con@Home Panel. Their panel will launch on YouTube at 8 p.

Titled The Living Dead, the new book is coming out on August 4th, and it will be brought to life in audiobook form by Lori Cardille (who portrayed Dr. Sarah Bowman in Romero’s Day of The Dead) and Bruce Davison:
Press Release: Horror fans have plenty to look forward to this August. The Living Dead, George A. Romero’s previously unfinished novel, completed by Daniel Kraus is publishing August 4, 2020, and the audiobook will be narrated by actors Lori Cardille and Bruce Davison.
Lori Cardille played Dr. Sarah Bowman in Romero’s Day of The Dead (1985), and was also in The Last Call (2019) and The Edge of Night (1956). Having worked on a Romero film in the past, Cardille is very excited to be working on this special project.

When crafting their love story about a mute cleaning lady (Sally Hawkins) and gilled government asset (Doug Jones) who fall in love without saying a word, “The Shape of Water” screenwriters Guillermo del Toro and Vanessa Taylor also did not speak. It wasn’t a meta exercise or conscious choice — just the practical outcome of exchanging emailed pages and drafts for six months while the roving del Toro kept up appearances in Toronto, Europe, and his native Mexico. Thus, in Taylor’s mind, they had no disagreements; they shared differing points of view with a more playful shorthand.
“There were things that he put in that I took out, and then he would put back in,” and vice versa, Taylor said in a recent phone interview. “Obviously, as the director, he could choose to do whatever he wanted to do.” So far this award season, “The Shape of Water” has...

From Guillermo del Toro’s imagination has sprung the stuff of nightmares, creatures certain to stay with you long after you’ve seen them in Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Pacific Rim. And with his upcoming Netflix animated series Trollhunters, he again gets to delve into his love of monsters, albeit this time of the more kid-friendly variety. We now have our first look at Trollhunters since the teaser image unveiled back in April that obscured a troll with fog and silhouette. These new images, which Entertainment Weekly debuted today, give us a peek at how things look when del Toro meets How to Train Your Dragon (Trollhunters is made by DreamWorks). Take a look: Del Toro additionally told EW about casting the lead voice role of Jim, who becomes the Trollhunter, defender of the good trolls. Anton Yelchin lent his voice to the character, and it turns out it...

A couple months ago DreamWorks animation gave us our first look at Guillermo Del Toro's Netflix series Trollhunters. This is a project I've been pretty excited about, and now I have even more reason to be excited as it's just been announced that Kelsey Grammer (Frasier), Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy), and Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) are attached to star in the animated series.
Yelchin voices a character named Jim, who discovers a mysterious amulet in the story; Grammar will take on the role of "a kindly troll who helps Jim"; and Perlman is providing the voice of a troll named Bular, who is described as “a sinister troll who targets Jim and his friends for battle.”
The project started out as a feature film adaptation of the young adult novel that Del Toro worked on with author Daniel Kraus and this is the synopsis:
DreamWorks Trollhunters will unleash a new, fantastical world wrapped around the residents of the fictional suburb of Arcadia who make a startling discovery that the world beneath their hometown is as vast and mind-blowing as anything on the surface. A global must-see viewing event for the entire family, DreamWorks Trollhunters will bring viewers of all ages around the world into the rich and creative mind of Guillermo del Toro.
It's also explained that the "startling discovery" in the fantasy series is that there's a "hidden battle between good trolls and bad, the outcome of which will impact their lives forever.” The recent statement that was released also states that the series will feature “stunning visuals and ambitious, complex storytelling” that “raises the bar for family series as a global must-see viewing event for the entire family.”
It's cool to see Del Toro and Perlman teaming up on another project, and the addition of Grammer and Yelchin is just the icing on the cake. Del Toro has got himself a talented cast of actors!

Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman are set for another creative collaboration – but it doesn’t involve a certain cigar-chomping demon.
Instead, the Pacific Rim duo will reteam for Trollhunters, the new animated fantasy series that has set up shop at Netflix. According to Variety, Perlman has joined the cast as Bular, a malicious troll that causes all manner of havoc for our leading hero, Jim (Anton Yelchin). Also bound for the voice booth is Kelsey Grammer who, unlike Perlman, will lend his vocal chords to a friendly troll known as Blinky.
He is, essentially, a big, ugly and really rather friendly giant that resides deep beneath the fictional suburb of Arcadia, where Jim “and his two best friends make a startling discovery that beneath their hometown lies a hidden battle between good trolls and bad, the outcome of which will impact their lives forever.”
Netflix’s family-friendly romp will lift inspiration from Daniel Kraus’ fantasy novel. Here’s an overview of how Trollhunters is shaping up:

Not to be confused with André Øvredal’s low-budget Norwegian flick, Trollhunters is expected to premiere exclusively on Netflix. We’ll update this article if and when the company nails down release plans.

Guillermo Del Toro is one of those filmmakers who’s always busy. He’s seldom got less than 17 projects on the go at once (that’s an estimate) and his unique vision means that we’re regularly permitted entry into his world. A place where the normal parts of life seem extraordinary, either in their darkness, or in their light. He’s in short, brilliant. If like me, you’re a fan of his style then you’ll be pleased as punch with what today brings – our first look at his upcoming series Trollhunters.

Netflix and DreamWorks agreed a deal back in January 2016 that will see more new series bypassing traditional TV broadcasting methods and heading straight to the hugely popular streaming service.
One of these shows - which is coming to Netflix via DreamWorks - is a Guillermo del Toro-produced animated series called Trollhunters (based on his 2015 novel of the same name, which was co-written with Daniel Kraus). Now, Deadline has shared part of the cast list for the show, and it's jam-packed with talented actors. Guillermo del Toro has recruited his Hellboy collaborator Ron Perlman, Star Trek's incumbent Chekov Anton Yelchin and Frasier himself Mr Kelsey Grammer.
Yelchin will play the lead role, voicing a teenage boy named Jim who uncovers a secret world of trolls beneath his hometown. Down there, Jim will meet Grammer's Blinky, "a kind-hearted troll who befriends Jim", and Perlman's Bular, "a sinister troll who targets Jim and his friends for battle."

In classic del Toro style, it follows a fifteen-year-old called Jim who discovers a world of trolls hidden beneath ordinary society.
Netflix will also get another new exclusive DreamWorks series, too - a ‘reimagining’ of the fondly-remembered 1980s animated show Voltron, which focuses a team of astronauts controlling a giant robot to battle evil (arguably something of a precursor to Mr del Toro’s Pacific Rim,...

This past summer, Guillermo del Toro and Daniel Kraus took readers into the dark fantasy world of Trollhunters, a young adult novel in which "marrow is sucked down slobbering throats." Later this year, del Toro and Kraus' story will leap from the page to the small screen, as Netflix is moving forward on an animated series adaptation of Trollhunters:

Guillermo del Toro and Daniel Kraus have joined forces to created a new brand of horror for the masses. This time however were discussing a wicked cool new novel rather than a film. Trollhunters sounds like the kind of story thats going to appeal to younger and older fans alike and its loaded with some stellar artwork from Sean Murray.

Press Release -- "“You are food. Those muscles you flex to walk, lift, and talk? They’re patties of meat topped with chewy tendon. That skin you’ve paid so much attention to in mirrors? It’s delicious to the right tongues, a casserole of succulent tissue. And those bones that give you the strength to forge your way in the world? They rattle between teeth as the marrow is sucked down slobbering throats. These facts are unpleasant but useful.”
About Trollhunters:
When a 45-year old mystery resurfaces, threatening the lives of everyone in the seemingly sleepy town of San Bernardino, teenager Jim Sturges’ life changes—forever. With terror now on the horizon,...

Throughout the vast history of cinema the profession of law enforcement has been portrayed heavily and made its mark on the big screen in both dramatic and comical fodder. Whether it be straight up cops and robbers or crooked officers on the take in gangster flicks or ant-hero gun-slinging loners trying to buck the system the presence of crime-busting cads never fail to add compelling, if not at times over-exaggerated, insight into the world of law-enforcing personalities.
The one element of the law-enforcing community that seems somewhat limited but still registers mightily in some cinematic arenas is the concept of the sheriff. Sheriffs do cast a prominent shadow in all sorts of fields in the movies: westerns, medieval times, contemporary country car-chasing farces and even some urban melodramas.

In an interview with Variety, Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’S Labyrinth) got a chance to talk about his upcoming projects in the loop. He has a ton, and they all sound jumbled, but it’s hard not to get excited about a few of them. For the full interview check out the link above, but I’ll provide bullet points below.
First off, Del Toro is exec-producing the upcoming Rise Of The Guardians, which no, isn’t about owls again, but about Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny saving the world. So, there’s that. He’s at work with Rodrigo Blaas on film with Dreamworks entitled Trollhunters, based on a book he wrote with Daniel Kraus. Of course, following the Norwegian film Trollhunter and the plans for a U.S. remake, this may be lost in the mix. Pinocchio is not scheduled to begin until next summer, but it...
