When it comes to fine geek fan art, James Hance is a badass. The artist has a talent of taking popular culture and turning it on its head. A couple of his latest pieces feature a Harry Potter and Star Wars mashup. He calls the first one “Scruffy Looking Troll Herders.” It features Ron Wealey (Rupert Grint) as a little Han Solo and Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) as his buddy Chewbacca. The other piece is called “With My Own Eyes,” and it shows Snape (Alan Rickman) as Darth Vader. You gotta love fan art!

Artist James Hance is a non-stop art producing machine. This guy is constantly creating stunning illustrations that capture the nostalgia for the pop culture a lot of us grew up with, as well as geeky things that we enjoy today. One of his latest pieces was inspired by the classic 1985 film, Return to Oz.
I loved this movie as a kid. In case you've never heard of it, the story follows Dorothy, who is saved from a psychiatric experiment by a mysterious girl. Dorothy is called back to Oz where an evil witch and a Gnome King have destroyed everything that made the magical land of Oz so beautiful. Dorothy has to find a way to save Oz and restore it to its former splendor.
Hance really captures the magic of the movie in this illustration that he calls, "May I Call You Mom, Even If It Isn't So?" It features Dorothy,...

Artist James Hance has created this extremely happy Star Wars illustration featuring Princess Leia and Han Solo. The piece is called The Princess & The Smuggler, and it has to have the power to make fans smile. I don't see how you could look at this and not smile. These two characters don't smile enough in the classic movies, but when they do… it's magic.

Artist James Hance has awesomely combined The Little Shop of Horrors with Guardians of the Galaxy. The piece is called "Somewhere That's Groot," and it features Rick Moranis' Seymour with Vin Diesel's Groot. This might just be one of my favorite Guardians of the Galaxy mashups because I'm also a big fan of Little Shop of Horrors, and the two characters work so well together.

Yesterday I watched Hook and a few other Robin Williams movies that I haven't seen in years. I found myself overwhelmed with emotion at times. Hook ended up being just as great as I remembered. It's still hard for me to believe that Williams is gone.

Artist James Hance has created an incredible Doctor Who inspired mashup illustration. As you can see, it features Stan Laurel from the classic comedy duo Laurel & Hardy with Matt Smith's Doctor in the place of Hardy. Hance's work is always amazingly fun. He's always pumping out great stuff, and the guy obviously has a love for Doctor Who since so much of his art is inspired by it. This latest piece came along with the following caption:

Artist James Hance has created this awesome drawing for the cult classic web-series Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Hance is an amazing artist, and this turned out beautiful. The artist had this to say,
There we go! Really, really happy with how this turned out Considering making a few prints of this, should you need one. Ultimately I'd love to create a full color version on a larger scale - but this certainly has the heart I was going for.
Dr. horrible is a creation of Joss Whedon, and it has a huge following. There has been talk of a sequel for years. The team of talent has been slowly but surly developing it, and one of the last things were heard is that there is music already written. I'm sure the sequel will eventually happen, it's only a matter of time.

I don’t know what Adventure Time is, though I like the promise inherent in the title. But I do know that artist James Hance is awesome (I’ve featured his work before). So I presume the mural he painted for this daughter’s bedroom, mashing up Doctor Who and Adventure Time, is even cooler than I can appreciate:
(Click here for a larger version.)
Hance posted that image on his Facebook page, where promised to transfer it to a print and a tee. And indeed, the print is available at his site. I don’t see the shirt yet on his Redbubble site, but I’m sure it will turn up soon.

If you're a parent trying to impress your child, it's time to step it up. One dad has taken things to the next level for his nine-year-old daughter.
James Hance, an artist who specializes in awesomely-nerdy work, shared a mural he painted for his daughter, Maddy, which combines the worlds of "Doctor Who" and "Adventure Time." "Adventure Timey-Wimey," he calls it. The work definitely ranks up there with the best "Doctor Who" crossovers.
He says the idea came from Maddy and that she "had all the characters mapped out." The end result is an epic mash-up. Luckily for the world, Hance got the okay from his daughter to turn the design into prints and shirts. You can look into buying those, along with some of his other work (there's a great "Firefly" character portrait series) on his website.

Artist James Hance has created another delightful Star Wars and Up mashup. This one features Russell as Luke Skywalker and Carl as Han Solo. The illustration is called 'A Tatooine Explorer Is A Friend To All!'
Hance is the same artist who brought us Little Rebels, Wookie The Chew, and Carl and Ellie as Han Solo and Princess Leia. He has such a great style. His art just makes me happy.
