Certain things in history are just fact: the Battle of Hastings took place in 1066, President John F Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963, and Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years.
The study of other parts of history can be open to interpretation though. For example, some people argue that King Richard III was an evil tyrant, while other believe he was no better or worse a monarch than any of his predecessors or successors. Alternatively, some historians argue that the Treaty of Versailles and the “failed peace” following the Great War made the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis and the subsequent onset of World War II “inevitable”, while others believe the two global conflicts are not as intertwined as this.
But this does not present a problem in itself, because history is a discipline that is intended to forge debate, research, argument and measured reasoning. It...

Maureen O’Hara, now 94, took time to fondly remember the Hollywood greats from her past such as John Wayne and John Ford. Legendary Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki said he was just happy to be in the same room as Maureen O’Hara. Masterful screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere gave a moving tribute to Hollywood’s “forgotten” writers. And Harry Belafonte, winner of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, galvanized the industry crowd by asking them to aim higher.
Yes, it was quite a night for the four honorees of the Sixth Annual Governors Awards of the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. Quite a night. And the Academy got this awards season off to a roaring start with this blessedly non-televised celebration of the greats in this business who may not have always been given their due. It has also become a night for major schmoozing and networking among Academy voters and the huge numbers of Oscar hopefuls.

Question: Watching the Carrie and Quinn scene at the end of Homeland‘s Season 3 finale has me wondering — are they going to be a thing next season? —Fyeah
Ausiello: I put that exact question to showrunner Alex Gansa on Monday and he didn’t rule it out. “I think if there is romantic energy between them it’s at a very nascent state,” he said. “Carrie’s emotions have been engaged elsewhere, so it’s unclear how she feels about him.

As is often the way with costume designers, Stephanie Collie is something of an unsung hero. We will not reel off her entire back catalogue, but it does include South Riding (2011, TV), Telstar (2008) Peter’s Friends (1992) and perhaps most exciting of all, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998).
Now, anyone old enough to remember when Lock, Stock arrived will remember just what an incredible influence its Mod inspired costumes had on the world of fashion. You could not pick up a men’s magazine of the time without seeing some guy in slim trousers and a jersey polo shirt. Stephanie Collie invented this look, thus providing one of the clearest examples of how costume design can transcend a movie and become something more. We would go so far as to say Stephanie Collie helped define an era.

Nicki Minaj is proud of her breasts, and she has no problem showing them off. Little over a month and a half after she posted her topless wedding dress photo (because why not?), the rapper posted another image on her Instagram showing her in a very Lady Godiva-like pose.
In the image, Minaj puckers up while using her hair to cover her nipples. The black extensions do little to cover the majority of her breasts though, so between this photo and the wedding dress one, anyone who cares has a pretty good idea of what Minaj's naked upper half looks like.
Of course, her breasts aren't the only asset Minaj likes to flaunt. She also tried to switch #ThrowbackThursdays to #ThongThursdays when she posted an Instagram photo of her behind on July 18.

...Marina Abramović really wants to be a household name.

TMZ have obtained a video of model and internet sensation Kate Upton Topless, performing a Lady Godiva impression as she takes her kit off on a horse.
The Sports Illustrated cover girl is (finally!) shown exposing her bare breasts in the saucy photo shoot, a day that many a straight men have dreamed about and which has now become a reality.
The video below shows the buxom blonde’s recent photo shoot where she is seen on horse back, before being told by her photographer to strip before they lose the sunlight for the shoot. Initially Upton attempts to cover up her rather significant assets with her hands before the 21-year-old eventually finds that too difficult on the white horse and she instead lets everything hang out.

Vanishing Point
Directed by Richard C. Sarafian
Written by Guillermo Cabrera Infante from a story outline by Malcom Hart
1971, USA
Belonging to countless late-sixties, early-Seventies American counterculture road films, Vanishing Point quickly became a cult classic of the car-movie genre. Richard Sarafian directed this minimalist chase film, starring Barry Newman as Kowalski, an ex-marine, ex-race car driver and ex-cop behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger – who must deliver the automobile from Colorado to San Francisco in less than 15 hours. After a run-in with highway patrol, a state-wide chase ensues. Along the way, Kowalski is aided by Super Soul – a blind, radio DJ who guides his journey using a police radio scanner. Much like Dennis Hopper’s Easy Rider (1969) and Monte Hellman’s Two-Lane Blacktop (1971), Vanishing Point sought to illustrate the tensions between the counterculture and the establishment, and in this case, across four states

Heidi Klum's star-studded Halloween tradition is taking a year off. "Hope you & your loved ones are safe after the storm," she Tweeted Tuesday. "Canceling my Halloween party...postponing to a haunted Christmas," she wrote with a photo of herself on a post-Hurricane Sandy N.Y.C. street. Much of New York City was still shut down as of Tuesday afternoon, following what officials call the worst storm to ever hit the city. In addition, for the first time in its history, the New York City Halloween parade has been canceled. Klum had planned to attend her always over-the-top bash as Cleopatra.

Jaguar. Joan. Megan. Peggy. Women. Sex. Power. Framed by the Jaguar pitch, "The Other Woman" is a beautifully brutal depiction of prostitution -- cracking open a theme deeply embedded in the series, but never truly explored. Don's mother was a prostitute, all the men sleep with prostitutes. Our beloved Sal was fired for not sleeping with Lee Garner Jr. and Pete even suggested his wife (!) sleep with an editor to get his short story published back in Season 1. Opening with Don, Ginzo and a bunch of male freelancers throwing around the idea of Jaguar as your gorgeous mistress, the episode immediately turns women into possessions as the "beautiful yet unreliable" objects of desire. Don tells the team it's too vulgar to actually use the word mistress, but unlike their campaign, this episode slaps us in the face with the ugly reality behind the desperation and degradation that can come with the business of business,...

Mad Men, Season 5, Episode 11: “The Other Woman”
Written by Semi Chellas & Matthew Weiner
Directed by Phil Abraham
Airs Sundays at 9pm (Et) on AMC
In an episode crammed with a sickening amount of sexism, ‘The Other Woman’ offers one of the most surprising, and moving, climaxes of this acclaimed fifth season. Former Soprano’s cinematographer, Phil Abraham’s second directorial venture this year focuses on the stories of Don, Peggy, Joan and Pete. It also marks the first time Weiner and his writers have tackled the theme of sexism as intensely as it is approached this week. If this episode were a cake, it’d almost be too rich for the palate; such is the density of sexism, to the point of being overpowering. What better symbol to use for exploring the idea of men treating women as objects, than to have Scdp feverishly pursuing the Jaguar Motors account?...

In his ten rules for writing, Elmore Leonard forgoes the advice of Ernest Hemingway, and says: "Never open a book with weather." Well, Mickey Spillane isn't one for niceties or poetry, and he certainly lived by that code, as the late author's "Lady, Go Die!" doesn't mince words from the get go: "They were kicking the hell out of the little guy."
Shamus Award-winning author, screenwriter, filmmaker and more, Max Allan Collins -- perhaps best known as the man behind "Road To Perdition," and whose "Black Hats" currently has Harrison Ford attached -- has been tasked by the Spillane estate to tackle the author's various manuscripts and incomplete novels, and bring them to bookshelves. As he explained to us last fall, he takes a very careful approach, not just filling in the blanks, but also studying the context of where in Spillane's career (with whom he was a friend) the book fell,...

This fortnight I’ve brought you a group of pointless clips, and one not-so-pointless clip.
There is not one, but two pointlessly funny road incidents; a pointless but astonishing clip recorded on a toy plane; a video demolishing five pointless historical factoids and lastly; a beautiful, but sadly not pointless, piece of cinematic art.
Woof!
5. Towing Failed
The music appears out of place at first, but its inclusion is a masterstroke. The slow, and subtle escape of the guilty party is also phenomenally hilarious.
It creeps up on you, the laughter. At first you don’t know what to expect as the chaos unfolds, like a Fawlty Towers episode, but before you realise it you’re in fits of laughter.
It’s short and sweet and brilliantly funny. Enjoy!
4. Unbelievable [Nsfw]

On Wednesday's chart update, Carly Rae Jepsen was on course to debut at number one, while Nicki Minaj had stormed to the top of the albums tally. Ahead of Sunday's Official Chart, Digital Spy looks at the final midweeks. Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' is still in the lead, followed by Sean Paul's 'She Doesn't Mind' and Nicki Minaj's 'Starships' in that order. Chris Brown is at five with 'Turn Up The Music', and Emeli Sandé's 'Next To Me' is at nine. Further down the chart, Alex Day's 'Lady Godiva' remains at 11, Olly Murs holds at 12 with 'Oh My Goodness', and The Script's 'The Man Who Can't (more)...

Hey, it’s Monday, and Monday means it’s time for your next dose of Celebrity Apprentice love! Although we should probably refer to this week’s episode, “Getting Medieval,” by its real name: “The Episode No One In Their Right Mind Watched.” After all, it was up against the Oscars. The Oscars. (Also the NBA All-Star Game, but realistically, the audience overlap between Celebri-Prentice and the NBA All-Stars is approximately zero?)

Celebrity Apprentice's second episode saw our remaining candidates going back in time - way back in time to the medieval ages. Inside The Actor's Studio's James Lipton is on hand to introduce the challenge, because he's actually a knight! He even has a suit of armour and a horse! Teams have to devise a 12-15 minute show for Medieval Times and will be judged by the audience. Penn Jillette steps up as the Pm for the men's team, while Lisa Lampanelli is Pm for the women. Two side notes: Mr Trump jokes that if Dayana Mendoza goes naked like Lady Godiva then the men will probably forfeit, while Adam Carolla is missing because he's hosting a wedding back at his home in California. Overview Both teams meet with the Medieval Times show co-ordinator for some hints on what makes a good show. He suggests recreating (more)...
