I’ve always felt that the 1979 horror film Tourist Trap (watch it Here) deserves a lot more respect and attention than it gets – and that star Chuck Connors (best known for The Rifleman) deserved the “genre icon” career he was aiming for when he signed on for the movie. Barbara Crampton is someone who did achieve a genre icon career, and she clearly believes there was something great going on with Tourist Trap, because our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that she is producing a remake of the film!
Crampton is the Vice President of Production & Development at Alliance Media Partners, and the company has just acquired the rights to make a new version of Tourist Trap. Crampton will be producing the film alongside Bob Portal, who is Amp’s Managing Director & Head of Production.
Produced by Full Moon founder Charles Band, the original Tourist Trap stars Connors as Mr.

In the 1974 groundbreaking horror film "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," Sally Hardesty (Marilyn Burns), her wheelchair-bound brother, Franklin (Paul A. Partain) and friends visit the fictional town of Newt, Texas to check the grave of the Hardesty's grandfather amid reports of body snacthing happening in the area. Things turn deadly after they pick up a sick and twisted hitchhiker (Edwin Neal) who, along with the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen ), is a part of a cannibalistic family. This gruesomeness that unfolds is foreshadowed by the film's opening images: badly decomposed corpses burning under the sun in a cemetery and roadkill.
You can almost smell the death through the screen. This was a strategic move made by the film's co-writer, director, and producer, the late Tobe Hooper, who prepped for making "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" by studying psychology and horror classics. He explained in an interview with The Flashback Files:

'Worst Movie Ever?' No way. But neither is Wayne Berwick and comic Jackie Vernon's tacky cannibalism tale a piece of art. When I say it's interesting, it's more as a study item than entertainment. It is fitting that Tourist Trap came out in 1979. This was a year of variety in horror with everything from Ridley Scott’s Alien to Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. From space creatures to the walking dead and all points in between, this was the end of a decade and Tourist Trap couldn’t have been made at any other time. It’s magnificently weird.
Released in March by Compass International Pictures, Tourist Trap was not a commercial or critical success. That’s a real shame because it possesses a unique ability to get under the skin of the viewer with the oddest of fears: Mannequins. Have you ever been shopping and felt the dead eyed gaze of these department store statues? Ever felt they were watching…and waiting? Well sit back and strap in as things are about to get strange.
In a nutshell: A traveling group of young adults...

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Written by Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper
Directed by Tobe Hooper
USA, 1974
Now a legendary horror film, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as it seems to be called just as often (hereafter Tcsm either way), was at the time of its release a most unusual feature. Why the movie still resonates today though, why it still has such a strong cult following, and why it remains one of the genre’s greatest entries, is for many of the same reasons it was so groundbreaking in 1974. The Vietnam-era angst has since dissipated (or has perhaps been replaced by a new sort of battle fatigue) and the notion of a post-Night of the Living Dead horror film renaissance has certainly gone by the wayside, but Tcsm remains just as expressive and as masterfully effective it ever was.

It was recently announced that Toby Hooper's classic horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was getting rereleased in theaters with a remastered 4k version. While we wait for that, here is a fantastic documentary that details the making of the original movie.
Hooper and his crew went through a hell of a lot to get their movie made. I had no idea how hard it was until I watch this documentary. The 75-minute doc was produced in 2000, and it features interviews with the cast and crew who go into detail about the crazy hell they went through to make their film. It's crazy how many bad business deals were made that left several people uncompensated for their efforts. It was also funny that art director Robert Burns used real animal parts on his set designs so there was the wonderful stench of rotting flesh to help get everyone in the mood.

To celebrate the new alliance between Dark Sky Films/Mpi and IFC Films, Fangoria Entertainment is giving a few lucky Fangoria readers copies of IFC Films' acclaimed release, The Wild Man Of The Navidad and the 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on DVD!
Just-released on DVD last week, Wild Man is based on the terrifying true story from the journals of Dale S. Rogers, produced by Kim Henkel - Producer Of The Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre!
In 1975, the small town of Sublime, Texas had an encounter with a creature so horrifying that it remains legend today: Deep in the woods along the Navidad River, someone or something has left its lair to rip a trail of ferocious carnage through the local population. Is it man, monster or Lone Star myth? And in a rural community commanded by the Bible, corrupted by moonshine and ruled by rifles, can anything stop...

We love giving away free swag here at Fangoria, and for this round we're breaking out a piece of classic horror cinema!
Dark Sky Films released Tobe Hooper's 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in a 2-disc Ultimate Edition DVD back in 2006, and now we're giving Fangoria readers a chance to win their own copy of this beautiful steelbook.
Ready to fight Leatherface?
It has been called "grisly," "sick," and "perverse," as well as "raw," "unshakeable," and "the movie that redefined horror." It was attacked by churches, banned by governments, and acclaimed by only the bravest of critics. It stunned audiences worldwide and set a new standard in movie terror forever. In 1974, writer-producer-director Tobe Hooper unleashed this dark, visionary tale about a group of five young friends who face a nightmare of torment at the hands of a depraved Texas clan. Today it remains unequaled as a landmark of...

About two years ago we reviewed ultimate Texas Chainsaw Massacre DVD from Dark Sky, and it was good. Everything from the special features all the way down to the transfer kicked some major leathery ass. It was good headcheese for all. But now that we've entered into the Blu-ray era, will Leatherface and the family get their due?
According to DVD Active, they sure as hell will! Dark Sky is taking a majority of the special features found in the Ultimate Edition plus one new featurette and porting them over to a Blu-ray release set to hit stores on September 30th.
