It’s not a huge surprise, but today comes word from Fox Searchlight that the entire cast of The Tree of Life — notably Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain — will be campaigned in the supporting categories this awards season. It’s a strategy that’s been used for several ensemble films in the recent past, like Babel and Slumdog Millionaire. (Babel’s Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi ended up scoring Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress, while Slumdog’s Dev Patel earned a SAG nod in the supporting-male race.)
For Pitt, the move heads off any potential vote splitting between his »

Chicago – When big-budget films set their sights on being the next Hollywood blockbuster, they’re almost always built on a formulaic groundwork of proven ingredients. While these films often lose points for much of the same and little of the new, plunking a mighty $150 million into the production “Thor” has found a way to be both formulaic and successful.
“Thor,” which needed a hulking sexpot as its title character, found its quintessential leading man in Chris Hemsworth. Though before “Thor” he wasn’t a Hollywood sensation (you might have only previously glimpsed him in 2009’s “Star Trek”), he will be now.
Most notably in “Thor,” Hemsworth’s “accidental” but entirely on purpose shirtless scene even trumps Taylor Lautner’s memorable chisled-ab scene in “Twilight”. This Hemsworth scene literally causes a roomful of movie watchers – male, female, gay and straight – to gasp for air. Hemsworth’s personal trainer was worth every pricey penny. »

What is this, “Thor” day? Not quite. And this is the real Thor, not to be confused with the, ahem, Uzi-packing “Almighty Thor”. Marvel Studios’ “Thor”, their first volley into the Summer schedule and the first of their huge slate of upcoming big-budget superhero movies doesn’t open until May 6th, but they’re already bringing out all the stops to promote it. The film has already screened for select critics around the world, and Marvel has now made themselves a commercial for “Thor” that parodies the cute as a button Darth Vader/Volkswagen Superbowl Spot. Check it out below. “Little Thor” — er, I mean, “Thor” — stars Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Tadanobu Asano, Adriana Barraza, Joshua Dallas, Matt Battaglia, and is directed by KennethBranagh. Marvel has released a new clip from “Thor” that reveals your first look at Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Okay, so it’s basically some guy standing on some booth thing hanging in the sky while aiming down with a compound bow at Thor as he’s fighting a huge black dude. You can’t really see the mysterious man’s face or make out any kind of details in regards to his costume, and honestly, it could be anyone from Kenneth Branagh himself to actually Jeremy Renner up there, but from what we’ve read about Hawkeye’s cameo in the movie, this looks like a part of it. “Thor” stars Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Tadanobu Asano, Adriana Barraza, Joshua Dallas, Matt Battaglia, and is due out May 6, 2011. I came across an article (in Spanish) explaining that Academy Award-nominated actress Adriana Barraza's role - Isabel Alvarez - in Kenneth Branagh's Thor has actually been cut out from the final product. Google Translated, words may not be entirely clear, but understandable. Here is the translation below: Adriana Barraza sat out the final assembly of Thor, made by the director Kenneth Branagh, [who] sent a letter of apology [from] his representative. The letter explained the reasons for the cut in the editing room and that [Branagh] was interested in returning to work with her in the future. "I'm sorry, yes, because the film is very good, and because it alternated with tremendous actors that I admire very much but, well, I have clear that this is the cinema, which will be neither the first nor the last time a Scenes are cut," said the actress. Her "Isabel Alvarez" role involved owning »
IMDb.com is premiering six character posters for Kenneth Branagh’s Thor movie, which is set for release on May 6th 2011. The first two feature the characters Thor and Odin. The Thor poster is a variation of the poster already released, but Odin’s is something new. The posters will be released throughout the day, so look for more to come. The film has a pretty big cast which features Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Tadanobu Asano, Adriana Barraza, Joshua Dallas and Matt Battaglia. So anyone of these actors could be featured in the remaining four posters. More to come.
Update: I just added two new posters released today. You can see them below.
Adriana Barraza, the Babel Oscar nominated actress who snagged a role Marvel's much-anticipated Thor adaptation, recently spoke with the Informador. Briefly, for the first time discussing her role, which she plays local diner owner Isabel Alvarez, Barraza says: "I have a small role, which has only two scenes," she said modestly. "But I was very happy to be part of this movie. It gave me the opportunity to see what you do, no matter how small it is, try to do what it is, something very important, great." With new footage coming markedly during the 45th annual Super Bowl, Sunday, February 6, 2011, 6:30pm Et on Fox, Kenneth Branagh's epic tale of Thor hits May 6, in 3D! »

Two new films, The Green Hornet, and The Dilemma, entered the box office race last week at number one and number two, respectively. Unfortunately, with the new romantic comedy, No Strings Attached starring Natalie Portman, and Ashton Kutcher, opening this weekend, their reign over the box office has been cut short.
Debuting at number one this week is the new romantic comedy from director Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters), called No Strings Attached. The film features an all-star cast that includes Natalie Portman (Black Swan), Ashton Kutcher (Killers), Lake Bell (What Happens in Vegas), Cary Elwes (Saw 3D), and Oscar winner Kevin Kline (A Fish Called Wanda). The film made $6,726 on each of its 3,018 screens for an opening weekend total of $20.3 million. Considering that the »
With Lionsgate's romantic comedy From Prada to Nada opening January 28, the studio has sent over 9 clips from the film that stars Camilla Belle, Alexa Vega, Wilmer Valderrama, Kuno Becker and Adriana Barraza. The one line synopsis (via IMDb) is: "A Latina spin on Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, where two spoiled sisters who have been left penniless after their father's sudden death are forced to move in with their estranged aunt in East Los Angeles." While I debated posting the clips, I figured Camilla Belle and Alexa Vega fans might like to see them. If interested, hit the jump. I've also posted a more detailed synopsis: Here's the official synopsis: From Prada to Nada is a new romantic comedy starring Camilla Belle, Alexa Vega, Wilmer Valderrama, Kuno Becker and Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza. It’s a whimsical fish-out-of-water story of two spoiled sisters: Nora (Camilla Belle), a law student, »
