Nick Rhodes, best known as the keyboardist of the legendary new wave English band Duran Duran has gone on to defend the use of AI in making music. Recently, the overuse of AI in creating digital structures, interfaces, tunings, and adjustment of vocals has come under attack from musicians from a variety of genres ranging from Noel Gallagher of Oasis, to Drake, to Corey Taylor of Slipknot, all of whom have gone on to condemn this stating that AI is killing their artistry.

Duran Duran want to make you dance under the “Black Moonlight,” another spooky preview from their upcoming Halloween-themed album, Danse Macabre. Stream it below.
Thanks to a catchy riff from Nile Rodgers (and an assist from former member Andy Taylor), “Black Moonlight” is less ominous and gothic than the previous single (and Song of the Week) “Danse Macabre,” but the new track still has eerie synths and some playful lyrics about “dark magic” and dancing “under the dead of night.”
“Nile Rogers is a force of nature. When we get into a room, we start playing, and magic happens,” Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes said in a statement. “Nile always says that Chic is his first band, and Duran Duran is his second. Thematically, I personally prefer the moon to the sun. Simon took the idea and ran with it.”
Simon Le Bon added, “‘Black Moonlight’ is this classic Duran Duran-Nile Rodgers collaboration.

Duran Duran have shared their funky new song “Black Moonlight,” one of the band’s three originals from their upcoming Halloween-inspired, largely covers album Danse Macabre.
For the track, Duran Duran reunited with longtime collaborator Nile Rodgers, who previously produced the band’s 1986 LP Notorious, in addition to other contributions throughout the decades.
“‘Black Moonlight’ is this classic Duran Duran-Nile Rodgers collaboration,” Simon Le Bon said in a statement. “When Nile started playing his guitar in the studio, he really inspired everyone with his riff, and the song just kind of wrote itself.

Duran Duran throw a virtual monsters’ ball in their video for “Danse Macabre,” the title track of their upcoming album, which comes out just before Halloween on Oct. 27. The music features the return of the band’s former guitarist, Warren Cuccurullo, since he left the group in 2001.
The animated clip, for which creative director Linc Gasking, used AI technology, shows Dracula, Pennywise, Nosferatu, and other baddies dancing and monster-mashing as the members of Duran Duran, who, of course, look undead here, perform the spooky song. “Get dirty up on a danse macabre,...

With Halloween as its “key theme,” the album not only features a batch of new songs, but also a number of fun guests and several covers, including tunes by Billie Eilish, Talking Heads, The Rolling Stones, and more.
Along with the album announcement, the band has also shared the record’s title track, “Danse Macabre,” as a lead single, with a fittingly spooky video in tow. Watch the new music video below.

Founding Duran Duran member and guitarist Andy Taylor claims a new drug treatment is working in his battle with Stage 4 prostate cancer.
In a BBC interview, Taylor said the drug – Lutetium-177 – has extended his life “for five years.”
The 62-year-old Taylor first was diagnosed with the disease in 2018. He went public with the information last November.
After that, a scientist suggested nuclear medicine treatment with Lutetium-177, which reportedly targets cancer cells.
“It can’t see healthy cells,” Taylor told BBC News. He said his first round of treatments was six weeks ago. “It kills stage four cancer in your bones. And so what it’s effectively done is extend my life for five years.”
The drug received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration in March 2022 and has “proven to significantly improve prostate cancer survival rates and quality of life, as well as extend the time it takes for the disease to progress,...

Founding Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor has stage 4 prostate cancer, it was revealed during the group’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speech on Saturday night.
Stage 4 means the cancer has spread to other organs or parts of the body. It is considered the most serious stage of the disease. Taylor was diagnosed four years ago.
Taylor, age 61, was too ill to attend Duran Duran’s induction ceremony on Saturday night. But he provided a letter that was read by frontman Simon Le Bon.
“Many families have experienced the slow burn of this disease and of course, we are no different,” Taylor wrote in his letter. “So I speak from the perspective of a family man but with profound humility to the band, the greatest fans a group could have, and this exceptional accolade.”

After looking over the list of potential artists to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, Duran Duran didn’t think they had a chance in hell. It’s not that they didn’t feel deserving of the honor, but they had spent decades of their career being the outliers who didn’t exactly do things like everyone else. But during their induction on Saturday night, the British glam rock stars proved that carrying that distinction is what makes you a star.

Duran Duran is recalling their special connection to Princess Diana. In a new interview, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes, Simon Le Bon and Roger Taylor tell Et’s Kevin Frazier which of their songs the late royal loved most before her death in 1997.

I was 13 years old in 1984, and MTV was less than two years old. The music documentary “Under the Volcano” is essentially a travelogue — not so much for its setting, the island of Monserrat in the West Indies, although there are luscious drone shots aplenty, as for the trip it takes back to the pop world of the 1980s. The subject is super-producer George Martin’s short-lived Air Studio on the Caribbean island, a magnet for big stars and even bigger recording budgets back in the boom time of the early MTV era, a time when “welcome to the jungle” meant you should put the record company on the hook for untold amounts of money to go record, as luxuriously as anyone ever has, in an actual jungle.

The selections are an endorsement for founder Cody Greenwood, who started Rush in 2016.
She said told If was “very exciting” to see the projects come together for the event.
“For me, I think it reflects an appetite from Australian audiences to view films that have different subject matter because when you look at them as a whole, they are four very different films made under very different circumstances,” she said.

Next month marks the 40th anniversary of Duran Duran’s debut single “Planet Earth.” It was the start of an incredible run of hits that made them the defining group of England’s New Romantic scene. And that term was first heard by many people in the lyrics to “Planet Earth.” “I heard you making patterns rhyme,” Simon Le Bon sings in the first verse. “Like some new romantic looking for the TV sound.”

Duran Duran, a band that took its name from a science-fiction movie, celebrated one of the world’s greatest achievements in science this week by performing a concert at the Kennedy Space Center to commemorate 50 years since Nasa launched Apollo 11 for the first successful voyage to the moon. Video from the event, which featured interstellar-themed imagery, shows frontman Simon Le Bon singing “The Universe Alone,” off 2015’s Paper Gods album. A swarm of “stars” swirls overhead while CGI stars flicker behind Le Bon and the 16-piece orchestra and 40-person choir accompanying him.

Sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll have always been a package deal with male music stars. They’re so intertwined that we almost expect — maybe even prefer — our pop and rock gods to be bad boys.
Male stars are held to ridiculously lower standards than female stars, and it’s evident in the relatively muted effect #MeToo has had on the music industry. Groupie culture and the casual exploitation of female sexuality in videos and photo shoots may also be partly to blame for music’s #MeToo claims not being taken as seriously as ones set on Hollywood casting couches.
That’s why Kesha and Taylor Swift deserve all the props we can give them. When the former “Tik Tok” party girl alleged that producer Dr. Luke had sexually assaulted her and Swift complained that radio DJ David Mueller groped her while they posed for a photo during her 2013 visit...

In the 1980s, the U.K. and Europe were brewing some of the biggest names in rock music: U2, Depeche Mode and Duran Duran, to name a few. While those bands certainly blew up stateside shortly after, it wasn't by happenstance. In fact, Americans may have never been introduced to these greats without an FM radio station based in Long Island, New York, called Wlir.
The small group of radio visionaries at Wlir — including program director Denis McNamara — are highlighted in a new documentary titled Dare to Be Different, premiering Thursday at Tribeca Film Festival. The film includes McNamara, the...

It doesn’t seem possible that it was around 30 years ago that A Flock of Seagulls ran so far away or Modern English melted with us, but it was. The story behind those acts, their biggest hits, and dozens of other New Wave acts are captured in all their ‘80s bad hairdo-ed, brightly colored-glory in “Mad World: An Oral History of New Wave Artists And Songs That Defined The 1980s.” Written by Lori Majewski and Jonathan Bernstein, with a forward by Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes and an afterward by Moby, the book examines the New Wave era through the filter of 36 songs associated with the time, such as Gary Numan’s “Cars,” Duran Duran’s “Girls On Film” and The Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now.” Each chapter deals with one act and, while not limited to the group’s biggest hit, explores the story behind that tune and the...

Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes might not be up on your favorite new DJ or band, but he's Ok with that.
"Now I think I'm fairly discerning with what I listen to," Rhodes told HuffPost in a recent interview. "Because I don't need to particularly listen to something that is brand new unless it's really great. I'm all for any piece of modern music. Someone tells me, 'You've got to listen to this.' I'll always listen."
Rhodes, 50, says certain new acts have made an impression on him (he likes the Ting Tings' "Shut Up and Let Me Go" and says Mgmt's "Kids" has "a completely different feel to it"), but wonders if the relative ease with which one can produce a song nowadays has brought with it a lack of focus on craft. "Are people going to be listening to it like they listen to the Beatles now, or whoever else who has endured?...

Duran Duran's John Taylor has opened up about his bandmate Nick Rhodes' brush with illness, which brought their recent tour to an early close in the United States.
"Nick is a workaholic, one of the most driven men I know, and he just hit the wall," Taylor has revealed to HuffPost UK.
"He was having fainting spells, it was very frightening, but he saw a doctor, and was made to rest.
"His immediate treatment was to do as little possible, for as long as possible.

Taylor admits that Rhodes' plight shook him up, particularly after they'd had to cancel shows earlier on the tour due to frontman Simon Le Bon suffering throat problems.

Duran Duran have cancelled their world tour due to concerns for Nick Rhodes's health. The 'Ordinary World' band announced this week that a half-dozen North American concert dates have been axed because Rhodes has come down with a suspected viral infection. Rhodes has now posted an official apology on Duran Duran's website, explaining that he simply isn't well enough to perform at this time. "Firstly, I would like to personally apologise to everybody who had tickets to attend the shows which we were forced to cancel during the final week of our world tour," Rhodes wrote. "I know how far some of you travel to see us perform and how seldom we reach some of your cities. We never want to let you down. In this instance, it was truly unavoidable." He went on to disclose: "I contracted a virus, which dragged me down and (more)...
