Fans may have said their goodbyes to the Showtime series, but the world created within it is yet to be over, with a spinoff already planned and greenlit.
In October 2023, fans of the hit TV series learned that Showtime plans to have not one – or two, mind you – spinoff of the successful series but four.
Hopefully, it won’t go the way most of “Game of Thrones’” spinoffs have gone and every one of them will see production.
Speaking of production, “Billions: London” is gearing up to start filming in August. To maintain familiarity with the original show, even though we’re headed to a brand new location, the network has wisely retained original creators and executive producers Brian Koppelman and David Levien.

The finest financial drama that paved the way for other shows of its nature ended, and while it was a bittersweet feeling for fans of the show, it nodded toward who in the cast we might see in potential spinoffs.
Billion Season 7 Episode 12 marked the end of the current chapter for the beloved characters as a showdown between Axe and Prince turned everything around, teasing new endeavors for the characters.
Earlier in the year before Billions Season 7 premiered, Showtime was rumored to be working on developing spinoffs for their most popular dramas, with Billions and Dexter at the top of that list.
It was revealed that at least four Billions spinoffs would occur in entirely new environments. Still, fans of the original would love to see the characters be part of the new Billions in various capacities.

[Editors Note: The following interview contains spoilers for the “Billions” finale, Season 7, Episode 12, “Admirals Fund.”]
“Billions” ends not with one man reigning supreme, but two titans shaking hands. Chuck (Paul Giamatti) and Axe (Damian Lewis) joined forces early in Season 7 and — despite a history filled with trickery and betrayal — remain loyal to the very end. Along with their devout team of stock traders and political savants, the duo takes down Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) and his bid for the presidency, before parting ways as friends. Chuck will continue working for the state of New York, while Axe is back behind the soon-to-be sleek desk of his hedge fund.
For a series that began with promises by both men to utterly destroy the other, some fans may be miffed that neither star is crowned as champion. But for showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the “Billions” series finale isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s an embodiment of what...

“That’s like a billion dollars in Indiana.” That quip from Bobby Axelrod is one of the memorable lines in the series finale of “Billions,” the Showtime drama series that wrapped its seven-season run Oct. 27 with the crowd-pleasing episode “Admirals Fund.”
Axelrod, played by Damian Lewis, delivers that line as he takes a victory lap after demolishing his latest foil, rival hedge fund manager Mike Prince (Corey Stoll). It’s a reference to that fact that Prince, after an elaborate sting pulled off by Axelrod and the core “Billions” ensemble, is left wiped out but for $100 million he invested with Black-owned banks a few years ago. Axe’s comment and Prince’s broad smile suggest that the latter is headed to the Midwest to nurse his wounds and rise anew.

The series finale for “Billions” was always meant for the diehard fans of the long-running Showtime drama. At “first blush” it’s a relatively happy ending. Relationships aren’t irreparably damaged and nearly every fan favorite character ends up as rich as they’ve always been.
But series co-creator and executive producer Brian Koppelman encouraged TheWrap to “close our eyes for a minute and think about it.” By the end of “Admirals Fund,” Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) is exactly where he started, an obscenely rich man behind a desk barking orders at his underlings to make him more money.
“Is that a happy ending? Or is that an inevitable ending?” Koppelman asked. “Is that him accepting the limitations of who he is?”
“In ‘The Sopranos,’ people get killed. In our show when people get killed, they lose their money. And some people make more,” series co-creator and executive producer David Levien joked to TheWrap.

“Bobbie Sue took the money and run” is not exactly the same as saying “Bobby and Chuck took the money and run,” though “Sue” is not a bad nickname for the crusading lawyer played for seven seasons by Paul Giamatti. Still, the vibes are very much on point as Steve Miller Band’s “Take the Money and Run” played viewers out in the opening and closing moments of the series finale of Billions, which ended a seven-season run with one last signature heist and one last big score for basically every single character — everyone, except for late-game antagonist Mike Prince (Corey Stoll).
As often is the case with Billions, the final episode, “Admirals Fund,” pulls the curtain back on events from previous episodes, only to reveal that they did not play out exactly as the audience thought. It looked like the holy alliance of Chuck Rhodes (Giamatti...

Spoiler Alert! Do not read this unless you have watched the series finale of Billions on Showtime.
It’s the end of the road for Bobby Axelrod and his team: the drama created by Brian Koppelman and David Levien ended its seven-season run Oct. 27 with a tidy finale that keeps Axe (Damian Lewis) in the game of making money.
Here, Koppelman and Levien reflect on the finale, how the writers strike impacted production on the finale, and why they couldn’t say goodbye without including a few more pop culture analogies (like Phil Spector with River Deep!) in the episode.
Sadly, questions about Billions spinoffs were verboten.
Deadline: Most important question first: how much thought went into deciding what T-shirt Damian Lewis would wear in the series finale?
Brian Koppelman: So much thought! Early on in the show, we started thinking about how and where Axe grew up and...

On an otherwise unassuming Monday in February, Showtime issued a press release that, sans context, appeared to be business as usual. The cable channel/streaming service announced development plans for two of its most popular series: “Dexter,” the mid-aughts serial killer thriller, was exploring up to three new iterations, and “Billions,” the ongoing financial drama starring Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis, was developing four spinoffs, including two titled “Millions” and “Trillions.”
Reactions were swift and merciless.
While plenty of eyes rolled in “Dexter’s” direction, a pervading sense of inevitability won out. Why wouldn’t Showtime extend a show that, despite complaints the original ran too long already, led to a revival that became “the most-watched series in Showtime history. Suits are physically incapable of leaving money on the table, so sure, fine, make “Teen Dexter” (actual working title: “Dexter: Origins”) and “Dexter Jr.” (aka “Dexter: New Blood” Season 2).

Exclusive: The Writers Guild of America’s silence on the October 7 terrorist attacks on Israel looks to be the only statement they’ll be making, at least according to West Coast president Meredith Stiehm.
“In the past week, some members have requested that the Guild take a public stand on events in the Middle East,” WGA West boss and former Homeland EP today told showrunners and others who have sought a statement of support and condolence from their Guild similar to what the DGA and SAG-AFTRA, plus Disney, Comcast, and many others have already said for the over 1400 killed by Hamas and the hundreds taken hostage. “Equally, many members have asked us to refrain from making any statement” Stiehm continued in the email sent out at around noon today.

Exclusive: The Writers Guild of America hasn’t said anything publicly about the savage attack on Israel by terrorists on October 7, and a number of irate showrunners and others will be discussing that silence Friday.
Almost a week after dozens of high-profile WGA members put out an open letter reprimanding guild leadership for “when terrorists invaded Israel to murder, rape, and kidnap Jews… the Guild stayed silent,” guild members are getting together to say something more.
“The guild wants this to go away, but we aren’t going away — it is outrageous they’ve said nothing, absolutely outrageous,” one individual who plans on joining today’s virtual meeting told Deadline.
Chaired by American Soul creator Jonathan Prince, a Zoom meeting is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Pt today to discuss why the WGA has been silent about Hamas’ onslaught against the Jewish state, which has left more than 1,400 dead and thousands injured.

Billions, Season 7. Photo Credit: Mark Seliger/Showtime. One thing we’ve learned from the show Billions is that, apparently, the more money you have, the more you appreciate music. Not only has Billions used several iconic pieces of music as part of its soundtrack, but nearly all of the show’s key characters regularly have lines referencing songs or artists, and several artists have appeared (as themselves) on the show, including Metallica, Michael Bolton, Ben Folds, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, and indie darling Jason Isbell. The show’s creators, Brian Koppelman and David Levien, are big music fans themselves — Koppelman’s father was the “K” in ’90s label Sbk Records — and they spoke to us about the importance of finding the right music for the show. Taylor will star as Dr. Eleanor Mayer, a highly acclaimed psychiatrist known for her modern-Freudian approach, in a recurring role. In this clip, she confronts Maggie Siff’s own highly motivated psychiatrist/performance coach character, Wendy.
“It is no secret that you are extraordinary, Wendy. But I think you can be even better,” Dr. Mayer says in the clip. “I would like to help you with that.”
“Thank you, but I’m not in the market for a performance coach,” Wendy fires back.
“I was suggesting therapy. Isn’t that why you’re here?” Dr. Mayer asks.

With Michael Prince potentially caught in the crosshairs, the nail-biting Showtime drama returned for its seventh— and final — season on August 11. Billions series co-creators Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin have drawn inspiration from Steve A. Cohen, Elon Musk and other famous billionaires to create their powerful and morally bankrupt cast of characters. Since the series premiere in 2016, audiences have followed former US attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) in his quest to bring these self-serving titans of industry to justice.

After seven seasons, Showtime’s widely-watched gem “Billions” will be returning this week for its final season.
Created by Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin, the financial drama first premiered in 2016 and follows the cat-and-mouse games between a hedge fund manager (Damian Lewis) and the United States Attorney (Paul Giamatti).
The first season was loosely inspired by Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and his prosecution of S.A.C. Capital Advisors’ Steven A. Cohen. But as the show has continued, it’s morphed away from its real-life inspiration to become something else entirely.

Editor’S Note: William Friedkin’s passing is a gutting experience for anyone lucky enough to have sat as he reminisced over his classic movies, with measures of regret for the recklessness, humor, and keen observations of why Hollywood’s Auteur Era gave way to the global blockbuster, and whatever it is we have today as two guilds strike seeking transparency, and residuals for writers and actors. This interview was originally published August 6, 2015 under the title ’70s Maverick Revisits A Golden Era With Tales Of Glory And Reckless Abandon. I am feeling a bit gutted by Friedkin’s passing. I looked forward to a long interview with him for his Venice-bound Showtime remake of The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial. With the second season of The Bear serving up record-breaking view counts on Hulu, Paramount Pictures is ready to say, “Yes, chef” to Christopher Storer’s next project. Storer, the creator of The Bear, is adapting the Don Winslow novel The Winter of Frankie Machine into a feature film. Shane Salerno produces alongside The Story Factory. Storer will use a previous draft by Brian Koppelman and David Levien when Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro were eyeing the project.

Season 7 of the Showtime series Billions – which also happens to be the final season of the show – is scheduled to begin airing on Friday, August 11th. With just a month and a half to go before the last episodes of Billions start reaching the airwaves, a trailer for the season has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
Created by Brian Koppelman, David Levien, and Andrew Ross Sorkin, Billions draws inspiration from real-life federal prosecutions of financial crime. Wikipedia notes that the series is primarily set in New York and Connecticut, and centers on “hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) as he accumulates wealth and power in the world of high finance.” Lewis sat out season 6, but will be in six of the final season’s twelve episodes.

“I’m back now, and I’m wide awake,” declares Damian Lewis’ hedge fund billionaire Bobby “Axe” Axelrod in the trailer for the seventh and final season of Showtime’s Billions.
The trailer marks the return of the fan-favorite character to the finance drama, which begins its new season Friday, Aug. 11.
In season seven, Showtime says, “alliances are turned on their head … old wounds are weaponized … loyalties are tested … betrayal takes on epic proportions … enemies become wary friends.”
Lewis left Billions as the show’s co-lead after season five. Lewis will appear in six of the new season’s 12 episodes. Lewis’ departure was explained by his character going on the run from legal troubles. Co-star Corey Stoll was then upped to series regular and his character took over Axe’s company.
Lewis previously suggested he left the series when his original five-season contract was up because he was a bit weary of the role.

Some of TV's most morally bankrupt characters are saying goodbye.
Showtime confirmed the rumors are true:
Billions is ending on the premium cable network after seven seasons.
Billions Season 7 is set to premiere on streaming Friday, August 11, before making its on-air debut Sunday, August 13 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt.
Starring Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll, and Maggie Siff, the 12-episode final season also marks the return of Emmy winner Damian Lewis as fan-favorite Bobby "Axe" Axelrod.
The news of Damian's return broke earlier this year, fueling the fire that we were headed into the last-ever episodes of the prestige drama.
"Billions has deftly explored power, money, and greed in a way that not only made it a massive hit but also defined its own genre thanks to the creative brain trust of Brian and David," said Chris McCarthy, President & CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks.

Billions will make its last power move — at least in this iteration of the franchise — later this year.
Showtime has confirmed that the seventh season of the series, which will feature the return of Damian Lewis as Bobby Axelrod, will be its last. Season seven will begin streaming Aug. 11, with an on-air premiere at 8 p.m. Et/Pt Aug. 13. (Co-star Dan Soder let it slip in a radio interview in March that the coming season would be it for Billions.)
While Billions is ending, the world of the show could continue as Showtime is developing several spinoffs (two of which are tentatively titled Millions and Trillions) with co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The potential spinoffs are part of Showtime’s strategy to franchise some of its most successful original series.

For the second time in a week, the Writers Guild of America has shuttered Billions.
Staking out sites in New York City’s Chelsea and Williamsburg neighborhoods, the striking scribes prevented the Wall Street drama from setting up for planned location shoots. There were about 100 WGA members and supporters at each location, including WGA member Amy Schumer in Brooklyn and Edie Falco in Manhattan.

“We just shut down Billions,” a WGA member screamed out earlier this afternoon as fellow picketers cheered – as you can see below.

“You make billions/pay us some!” striking Writers Guild of America members chanted on the street of New York today near where filming was going on for Showtime’s Billions.
For the second day in a row, scribes showed up at a Big Apple work site for the Wall Street drama.
On Friday afternoon, they picketed a Billions location site at a commercial building in the trendy Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea. Previously, on May 4, picketers were outside sound stages in Brooklyn and shut down production for several hours on the seventh and final season of the Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin. Amid skirmishes with arriving drivers and work crews, Billions cast and crew members decided not to cross the WGA picket lines outside Seret Studios
Unlike Thursday, today’s high profile picketing of Billions did not interrupt filming, we are told. Production on the show continued after the picketers left mid-afternoon NYC-time.

Exclusive: On the third day of its first strike in 15 years, the Writers Guild of America closed down Wall Street drama Billions for several hours Thursday.
The shuttering of the Showtime series started on a chilly, gray Thursday morning in New York after a tow truck hauling a prop Jeep to the set pulled up to a parking lot near the Brooklyn waterfront and came to a stop in the street amid picket signs and WGA members. Elsewhere in the Big Apple, Teamsters showed solidarity with another group of picketing scribes and turned their trucks around outside where American Horror Story‘s latest season is filming.
Over at the Billions studio, an entryway was blocked. A line of picketers — several dozen sign-waving film and television writers and their supporters — were not making way as the tow truck driver tried in vain to ease forward, with help from a New York City police officer.

Damian Lewis is returning to the franchise and a multitude of spinoffs are being explored, but Billions could be set to end with its seventh season.
Dan Soder, who plays Dudley Mafee, a onetime Axe Capital employee who becomes Taylor Mason Capital’s first employee, recently let slip that Showtime’s longest-running drama is coming to an end with its upcoming season.
Soder revealed the news during an appearance on NBC Sports Chicago’s Football Night. “Season seven, the final season of Billions, is on its way,” a San Francisco 49ers-clad Soder said, before realizing that he probably shouldn’t have let that slip. “Am I not supposed to say that? I don’t know if I’m supposed to say that,” he added.
Showtime declined to comment.
The news comes as Lewis is returning as Bobby Axelrod in six of the 12 episodes that are set to premiere later this year.

Billions fans are reacting to a surprise announcement regarding future episodes.
In October 2021, it was revealed that the show’s lead star, Damian Lewis, would leave the show after five seasons.
Lewis, who plays Bobby “Axe” Axelrod on the Showtime series, said he would “miss the Billions family”, and thanked the creators, Brian Koppelman and David Levien. He was absent from season six of the series.
The actor’s decison came after the death of his wife, Peaky Blinders star Helen McCrory, who died of cancer, aged 52, in April 2021.
Lewis, however, has announced that he will return to the show in season seven for six of its 12 episodes.
Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday (27 February), the Homeland actor revealed: “Bobby’s back. Axe is back, and it’s exciting. He’s not been around for a couple of seasons.”

The Axe is back.
Damian Lewis is returning to Showtime’s Billions for the finance drama’s upcoming seventh season.
The move marks a reversal for the actor, who exited his position as the show’s co-lead, playing hedge fund billionaire Bobby Axelrod, after season five. Lewis will appear in six of the new season’s 12 episodes.
Lewis’ departure was explained by his character going on the run from legal troubles. Co-star Corey Stoll was then upped to series regular and his character took over Axe’s company.
Lewis has previously suggested he left the series when his original five-season contract was up because he was a bit weary of the role. “It’s difficult to keep mining, creatively … We know who he is,” Lewis told The New York Times. “I always just assumed that [five] would be enough.” He also added that the passing of his wife in 2021, actress Helen McCrory,...

Axe is back. Damian Lewis, who departed Showtime’s “Billions” at the end of Season 5, will return to the series in time for Season 7, the network announced late Monday. Lewis, who stars with Guy Pearce in next month’s MGM+ series “A Spy Among Friends,” will return for six of the 12 episodes of “Billions” set to air next season.
Lewis is back as Bobby “Axe” Axelrod opposite Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll and Maggie Siff. The show is currently in production in New York, and Lewis’ return had already been leaked via paparazzi photos that showed him, in character, back with his old “Billions” co-stars.
Here’s the logline for next season via Showtime: “In season seven, alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world.

When it comes to dramatic storytelling, few shows do it better than Showtime's "Billions." Premiering in 2016, the series initially followed U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) and hedge fund CEO Bobby "Axe" Axelrod (Damian Lewis) in a cat-and-mouse game involving financial crimes, determined (and oft-corrupt) government officials, dysfunctional families, obsession, and tested loyalties. While taking some license to push the narrative and give each character a unique personality, "Billions" also highlights the real worlds of federal prosecutors and high finance. The first season and its two main characters were allegedly loosely inspired by the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara's case against Sac Capital Advisors founder Steven Cohen for insider trading.

When Showtime becomes Paramount+ With Showtime, the service will hone in on some of its established franchises.
Showtime boss Chris McCarthy spoke to The Wall Street Journal about the future, and there are some big swings.
For one, the Billions franchise is becoming a universe with spinoffs titled Millions and Trillions.
That's the working title for those shows, and unless Showtime wants to cause some confusion, they will probably change it if the shows reach the production stage.
There are -- reportedly -- four spinoffs in the works for Billions. If most of those shows make it on the air, they will effectively become the Power universe of Showtime.
Starz has had plenty of success by expanding the Power universe, but it's a bit hard to believe that Billions could reach the same success.
The good news is that Billions co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien are on board to bring this universe to life.
