Se7en (1995)
Need To Make More Thrillers Like These
I arrived 20 years to late for the hype of this movie but that doesn't make it any different. One of my favourite thrillers. They don't make them like these anymore.. Realistic characters, an evil serial killer but not as much emphasis on gore more storyline.
David Fincher did a class job, acting from Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey was beyond outstanding.
Se7en follows detectives Somerset and Mill... Somerset is an older mature detective whos ready to retire whilst Mills is an energetic yet not as knowledgeable, we see more of Mill' private life with his wife Tracy.
The movie kicks off after the murder of an obese man... suspicious but no motive the cops are at a standstill. That is until a wealthy lawyer gets killed and in blood 'Greed' is written. Knowing there is a serial killer on the loose its down to the detectives to hunt a man with an obsession with the deadly sins killing innocent people.
The ending to this movie I like a lot, I wont give it away but it shows how sick and twisted minds of serial killers are.
Se7en will surely stick in your mind
Love Object (2003)
Dolls Have Feelings
Awkwardly Original it is indeed. Robert Porigi used and idea that I haven't seen in a horror before but used it in a basic plot so well. The thing that makes the movie even more better is that the lead male and female were attractive people having normal jobs so there more comparable to the everyday person..
Love Object follows Kenneth go from normal shy attractive guy to struggling to tell whats reality and not leading to fatal consequences. Kenneth is a very handsome young man who has a good job as a technical writer, but behind his exterior he is a loner wanting a girlfriend.
One day at work his colleague's are passing around a postcard offering a custom made sex doll to your choice for 10k dollars. Ken buys one and calls it Nicki, it looks like fellow colleague Lisa whom he is infatuated by. Soon enough he has Nicki dressing like her and even listening to the same music starting to become a little obsessed.
Its when Kenneth wants to start dating Lisa the movie gets dark, so as he is dating a human he has no need for Nicki anymore. Kenneth starts to believe Nicki is not only just following him but telling him to do stuff which leads to fatal consequences...
As a horror its a little out there not a cliché plot but it has dark humour and suspense keeps a dull looking movie alive
One Hour Photo (2002)
Keep Your Friends Close And Photos Closer
I didn't know what to expect from this movie hen I first heard, I wasn't to sure if it was going to be a jump scare thriller with gore, which im a fan off but its nice to see something different that will keep on edge without over the top gore and scares.
Mark Romenek deserves more credit he pulled off a great thriller, especially casting Robin Williams who is know for his comedic roles as a deranged stalker.
One Hour Photo focuses on Sy, a lonely man who has no family or friends but works in a photo lab department of a suburban American grocery store. Sy knows all of his regular customers and memorises them by what photos they regularly come to get printed, But Sy has an unhealthy obsession with the Yorkin family.
The Yorkin family is a happy family of three, mother Nina her partner Will and their young son Jakob. Mother and son have been using that lab for 7 years getting their prints to the point Jakob calls Sy 'Sy The Photo Guy' unknown to them over the years Sy has been printing off separate copies of the photos to put on his wall.
Mid way through the movie we see the descent of Sy, from the helpful man to stalker, always seems to be there, reading the same books and has a fascination of being known as Uncle Sy and work his way in the family unit.
After an incident at work Sy is fired, and realising he will never be in the family unit he starts to up the ante in being top stalker... After discovering Will's infidelities he goes all out in letting everyone know...
If your after a thriller horror with loads of jump scares and gore this isn't for you, but its more for people who appreciate the classic thriller using great cinematography and intense atmosphere
Clown (2014)
Clown Tastic
As a huge fan of Eli Roth's movies (Hostel, Green Inferno) I was expecting good things and I wasn't disappointed. Okay a killer clown who prayed on children isn't original but the scripting was good and the lead cast had great roles and good acting.
Clown is based on a family realtor father Kent, his wife Meg and their young son Jack whos just about to 7.
The movie starts with Jacks birthday his celebrating his 7th and is obsessed with clowns. They hired a clown entertainer but unfortunately he was double booked. Looking like the party will be cancelled Kent found a clown costume in one of the homes he is trying to sell an wears it.
Straight after the party he doesn't take it off, its when hes trying to go to work the next day it doesn't want to come off. Struggling he still attends his job and uses tools on site but to no help in taking it off. Getting frustrated his wife uses her dentist tools to pull the nose of leaving a huge sore.
No one believing Kents worries he goes to the house and tries to track own the previous owners. He comes across a man called Karlsson who insists he doesn't touch the outfit, but telling him what he has done they meet immediately.
We find out the clown many many years ago was a murderer of children who feasted on them over the winter. Karlsson tries to kill him as the demon already has taking over but fails. Kent now fully taken over is causing chaos around the town and parents are running scared over their children.
Out of all the horrors released in 2014 this is one of the better ones should of been rated a lot more than some of the over hyped media ones.
Dead Silence (2007)
The Past Never Lets Go
James Wan the legend being masterpieces in torture porn saw and paranormal Insidous brings this pretty decent paranormal doll horror. With horrific killings, gore and a great twist at the end its more than worth a watch.
We first meet newly married couple Lisa and Jamie, doing regular chores a parcel gets delivered to their apartment. When opening it appears to be a ventriloquist doll. After his wife is then horrifically murdered Jamie is the main suspect and wants to prove the ghost tale from his old town has come back to haunt them.
In the 1940s at Ravens Fair auditorium ventriloquist Mary Shaw is performing on stage for families with her doll, when one boy humiliates her by shouting 'shes moving her lips'. Days after that boy goes missing, his family and other locals believe it to be Mary and hunt her down and cut her tongue out. Mary wanted to be buried with her 'children' a selection of dolls as she wanted to make the perfect one.
Jamie goes back to Ravens Fair, meets with his estranged rich father and his much younger wife to clear his name. On his tail is Det Lipton, who has no belief in this ghost. Now Jamie is in a race to not just clear his name but escape the ghost tale that was told throughout his childhood
May (2002)
A-May-Zing Find
Well what can I say, I was more than impressed with Lucky McKee,s movie. A horror with a mix of thriller and gore with brilliant character insight.
In my opinion I think the movie poses the question was May always a bit crazy and the rejection pushed her over the edge or was she sane but pushed over by the lack of affection? The tagline is 'If you cant make friends build them' which is used throughout them.
At the start of the film we learn about May, as a child she was diagnosed with a lazy eye much to her over bearing mothers disappointment who wanted a 'perfect child' she was a loner who had no friends. Her mother gave her a china doll named Susie who she adored and has kept forever. Nothing to say she was dangerous just a little different. May is a veterinary assistant at the local animal hospital which she enjoys.
We start to see May finding attraction in handsome Adam, a mechanic nearby like May he seems quite quiet and reserved. Adam also makes films on the side. The couple start to get closer by sharing cigarettes and going for lunch. After showing May one of his movies 'Jack and Jill' based on cannibalism May takes it to literally, mocking her kissing techniques he doesn't want to date May anymore making her feel lonely...
Along came Polly... One of Mays colleagues at work is flirtatious lesbian Polly who has a somewhat kind of attraction over May. Always seeming to flirt around may, after the Adam incident May is feeling lonely so seeks comfort in the woman. The pair have a brief dating relationship until one day May comes knocking to see Polly has a new girl called Ambrosia. Again May is feeling more rejected and close to the final straw...
The last nail in the coffin... Being rejected by all her 'friends' May decides to volunteer at a day care centre for blind children. Meeting ironically a loner girl who she helps bring into the group. One day she decides to bring in Susie her china doll in a glass case. Unintentionally the blind children get excited and accidentally break the doll sending May into despair.
Full blown psycho... Sadly at this point Mays mental state darkens, rejected by everyone shes got close to and the breaking of beloved Susie its gone to far. Now she really has taking her mother words and the movies tagline too far, feeling the only way she can have the perfect friend by having body parts of all those closest to her.
This movie is dark and humorous at times and highlights issues we as society ignore.
The Collection (2012)
Arkin Is Back
After enjoying the first movie The Collector I was slightly worried as we all know horror sequels always come up short, saying that Marcus Dunstan did a good job.
Arkin is back This time the movie focuses on Eleanor a girl with a very rich father. We see flashbacks of her in a car incident when she was a child possibly resulting in her deafness.
The Collection starts slightly similar... Eleanor her friend Misty and Josh go to an underground club, whilst there the girls separate. Eleanor finds a trunk in a room opening it up to discover Arkin who then runs off. Meanwhile the deranged killer is letting of his traps in the club killing everyone par Eleanor who he collects.
Unfortunately for the mad man Eleanor's rich father has hired a bunch of mercenaries to hunt down the killer and free his daughter. The group also manage to blackmail Arkin into leading them to his lair, there led to a abandoned hotel. Multi stories high and booby trapped the crazy the group are in a race against time to free Eleanor.
If you liked the first you wont be disappointed, there is the same amount of gore and suspense
Alyce (2011)
Alice In Psycholand
The people who rate this movie low don't really have the understanding of what the movie is about or what Jay Lee was trying to show. Alyce Kills shows the mental descent of a woman in her late 20s after a traumatic incident happened prompting the question...
Was she already mentally unstable and the event tipped her over or was she mentally okay but one night changed everything? Alyce is a late 20s something woman, she has a mundane job she hates and the only thing she looks forward to is spending time with her only friend Carroll, who jokingly refers to Alyce as 'single white female' material.
The Normal State.. At the beginning we see Alyces and Carrolls friendship in depth. After an awful day at work the girls decide on going to a club for the night. Whilst at the bar Carroll finds out her boyfriend has been cheating on her. Upset the couple leave and head back to Alyces flat where they indulge in drinking and drug taking. Carroll wants to go on the roof, after brief messing around Alyce accidentally knocks her off.. (she isn't dead) Mild Psychosis kicks in... At this point the movie starts to get darker alongside Alyces mental state. Consumed by guilt Alyce is having visions of Carroll attacking her vice versa and attacking herself. She goes to the drug dealer, even though armed with cash she performs sexual favours which highlights her mentality at this point. Believing the only way she can stop the visions she goes off to the hospital to kill Alyce...
Full Blown Psycho... Unaware of how bad she will become Alyce continues with life, after being sacked from her job, her drug taking doesn't get any worse though. A few darker scenes take place in this part including a necrophilia and war masturbation. Alyce is blind to see her thirst for blood has just begun.
The movie has similarities that Lewis Carrols Alice In Wonderland of the girls descent into darkness It may take slow to start but that's only to get a feel of the characters and the build up its a great watch and a must see worth More than the IMDb rating
The Helpers (2012)
Knocked For Help On The Wrong Motel
Christ Stokes did an okay job there's so many of these movies popping up. The plot was simple but it doesn't deter you from the film itself. Yes there is gore so for those who enjoy that there are a few specific scenes .
The begin shows news footage of an orphanage burning down A group of friends are travelling to Las Vegas for a holiday, whilst driving the tyres pop. With no signal the group decide to walk. And cliché enough they walk to a motel restaurant which has a side garage.
Whilst there they are met by 4 seemingly friendly owners who fix their car. When fixed the owners offer them a free stay as its dark. Agreeing a huge party takes place. As morning hits some are up and ready to leave but others are tied up in torturous positions, and try to break free and save each other.
The ending has a decent twist possibly predictable if you payed attention at the beginning but regardless watchable at the best
The Collector (2009)
He Chose The Wrong House To Rob
Marcus Dunstan did a really good job in bringing back a good old killing for killing horror. There was the suspense thriller aspect, gore to the torture porn levels in the right places and also a believable story with good characters. I don't understand how people have slated this, no its not the best horror but all parts of the movie are done greatly.
At the beginning we see a older man and his wife open what looks like a trunk with movement then the film begins.
The main character is Arkin a former thief who owes his wife some money for the debt they both owe due that night. Arkin plans to rob a safe from the new mansion he is working on.
The Chase family have just moved into a suburban Detroit mansion, Dad Michael his wife Victoria and their 2 children Jill and Hannah. planning to go on holiday they hire a group of builders and help to upkeep the house Arkin being one of those hired.
This is where the movie starts to intensify. Arkin breaks in and heads for the safe, hearing a few noises he continues and manages away with some cash and a ruby. He hears footsteps slightly puzzled as he thinks the family are away he heads to leave but narrowly misses a deathly booby trap. Arkin quickly realises he is not alone in he house and its rigged with traps. Soon enough he comes across the tortured mother and father who begs him to save their children.
Its thief verses serial killer The movie would appeal to all types of horror fans its watchable, a mini gore fest and has good character development
Contracted: Phase II (2015)
As Gore Increased Interest Levels Dropped
After reviewing the first Contracted thoroughly as I believed it was harshly crisicsed the Phase 2 disappointed me greatly...
I was expecting some of the unanswered questions to be answered like who was bj? what actually is the disease? but only vaguely mentioned At the first the movie picks up where we left off Samantha and the police stand off.
This time the movie is based around Riley, the guy from the first film who was infatuated by lesbian Samantha who he eventually slept with and contracted the sti.
We see how Riley is desperate to find a cure and find the mysterious Bj. In actual fact BJ has been stalking him. Riley lives at home with his gran and his heavily pregnant sister.
Riley has a new love interest in the for of Harper but little does she know of the truth Bj we come to realise has the cure but has his own agenda and wants to spread this zombie disease.
Throughout the film it shows that even just by kissing it can be spread.
The police led by Crystal Young try to control the outbreak but even the cops cannot control the vile disease Gore levels are risen, there is more emphasis on the zombie transformation, more detail on what the disease does. But unfortunately as the gore gets better the actual plot disintegrates into more of a fully pledged zombie meeting.
Run! Bitch Run! (2009)
Exploitation of Modern Day
Again another poorly rated movie.. but I think some people are missing the plot literally. This is not supposed to be a big horror production or even something unique I think Run Bitch Run is a modern day movie taking it back to the exploitation age of the 70s.
The main is revolved around 2 catholic schoolgirls trying so sell religious books to make money for charity. Rebecca is more flirtatious and loud whilst Catherine is a virginal good girl.
Yes the first 5 minutes of the movie would give any softcore porno a run for the money but it sets the scene.
So the 2 girls are knocking around houses when they encounter the 'whore house'. Before knocking they witness a pimp kill a prostitute and immediately are dragged inside. Of course there are scenes of sexual humiliation throughout like all other rape and revenge films.
When the presume Catherine dead they vile rednecks go back to normal life but obviously she isn't and is out for vile revenge of her captures.
if you want gore, a big production horrors and far fetched stories this isn't for you, but if you want an insight of 70s grindhouse movies this is the one
Vile (2011)
Saw Wannabe
I cannot blame Taylor Sheridan at all, when Saw came onto our screens it produced a new sub genre of horror the torture porn scene, but some movies do try hard to follow foot. As an indie horror Vile had really good potential but it lost it, A group of friends Nick, Taylor, Tony and Kai are on a camping trip, whilst venturing home they stop at a gas station where they meet an attractive couger who needs a ride... any avid horror fan will understand that this always spells disaster.
Gassed out the group wake up in a small basement with 4 other people, each have a vial attached to there necks which if broken will mean immediate death. Typically you always have one cocky dude who thinks he can break it and has a premature death.
Then a woman comes on a screen to explain what the group need to do in order to survive... They have 22 hours to fill up the vials in their neck with the brain fluid that leaks when you experience pain. Of course the room is filled with objects and weapons for the group to inflict pain on each other.
The torture scenes are good and the right level of gore but unfortunately that's all the film has going
Contracted (2013)
Deserves More Than 5
I feel like I should give a detailed view on this movie as the other reviews are a little harsh. I have been an avid horror watcher since I was 5, all sorts from found footage, slashers etc. Zombie movies I will admit do not float my boat. I came across Contracted by mistake and thought I would give it a shot, and I wasn't disappointed Eric England took a different aspect and it is watchable as well as have a decent plot.
So the main character.. Contracted is based around Samantha a 20 something lesbian who has just come out of a relationship with stuck up Nicky and a recovering heroin addict. Things seem to be getting there slowly for her shes moved back in with overbearing mother Nancy, has a job and entering a flower competition.
All that changes after the movies first half hour. Sam's friend Alice who has a secret crush on her invited Sam to come to a party get drunk and forget the breakup, hesitant she does so. Unfortunately unaware she was drugged by a man named 'Bj' and ended up having unprotected sex and giving poor Sam 'mutant chlamydia'.
This in my opinion where the movie picks up its shown over days how the virus kicks in. At the start its just things like bleeding, headaches etc. Sam avoids seeking medical attention at first but gives in only for the doctor to tell her to apply moisturiser for her rash. Over days her looks become worse prompting her mother friends and ex to believe shes back on drugs. Towards the end we see Sam get miles worse, red eyes, sores and veins. This point she has committed multiple murder which brings us to the ending that I wont spoil...
I do agree there are unanswered questions like what actually was the disease? who was bj? doctor incompetence? but that's maybe looking to deep into the film.
Overall a girl who delved into misogyny who I believed was date raped but anyway caught a horrible infection which in turn took over her body in days.
We Are What We Are (2013)
Gothic Delight
Jim Mickle remakes the Mexican horror thriller very well. Its nice to see a Gothic inspired modern day horror with the market going overboard with torture and found footage movies... it does take a while to get into things but the last 45 minutes gives you a great twist you didn't see coming So the movie is based around the Parker family, a reclusive family in small town America living in Victorian values. Mother is unfortunately killed, pretty daughters Iris and Rose, young Rory and the matriarch father Frank.
A storm has just started to hit the small town, whilst out getting groceries the mother ignores warnings and is consumed by the storm. Having to survive the sisters take on their mothers religious duties whilst keeping an eye on their brother.
As the storm over the next few days is pouring bone fragments are making there way down stream and into the hands of Doc Burrows, meanwhile a local girl has been reported, one of many over the past few years.
The police now on the trail are searching around the vast grounds of the Parkers home, one copper gets close to one of the sisters which will always be a bad idea. The family secret is about to be exposed after many years which is sending Frank into a frenzy.
The ending has a twist I wasn't expecting at all and after you find that out the movie all makes sense If you want something different, a break away from Hollywood fails of horrors or sequels this is one to watch, little gore but more thriller.
Don't Go to the Reunion (2013)
Low Budget Surprise
Steve Goltz movie brings us back to the good old 80s themed slashers. No its not the best horror, acting isn't great, blood and gore scenes are disappointing but its a low budget indy horror its not supposed to be a big production its about the idea and atmosphere and it has that In 2004 high school student Scott Rantzen who is a huge horror nerd is asked on a date by school beauty Erica, being set up by her and Ericas bullying buddies Scott is lead away by police. 10 years on the original gang are invited on a school reunion, but a dark mysterious man is lurking in the bushes. Is it Scott seeking revenge for the incident or something more twisting? No this isn't a sequel, a failed Hollywood horror or a found footage so if your fed up of these this is one for you
Excision (2012)
Masterful Gore
Richard Bates Jr has done an amazing job with this movie I cannot understand the negative reviews. Its a movie I guess many who don't have a strong stomach can handle but its not over the top gore it has a background story. The movie covers many issues.. I wouldn't say its a horror more a psychological dark humorous movie.
Its based around Pauline, a acne scarred social outcast 18 year old who dreams of being a surgeon... So much so her dreams are graphical, torturous and some necrophilia. She is not the perfect student and likes to play her classmates off against each other and labelled weirdo.
We also mainly focus on her family life her mother Phyllis who's an overpowering controlling woman whom Pauline wants to get affection from, Dad Bob is stuck in between and under the thumb and her younger sister Grace the apple of her mothers eye ad slowly dying from cystic fibrosis Of all the people in her life Grace is the only one she cares for and wishes her mother was dying instead From the start of the film we view Pauline a weird teenager who just is a little strange.. but then her character gets darker questioning her mentality and her dreams get more vivid This isn't for the faint hearted there is a lot of gore but in my opinion its not pointless gore it fits in the delusional dreams The ending is the most pivotal scene.. I wont give it away but its shocking and will have you question is there really something wrong with her or is Pauline acting up?
The Harvest (2013)
Cliché Plot Done Average
Harvest doesn't deserve the bad reviews it has, okay its original, clichés and has some dull moments but the thriller aspect moments are there and the twist is decent as well. It can come across predictable to some but its watchable and slightly realistic, Married couple Katherine and Richard keep there very sick son Andy secluded in his room, Katherine is a respected Doctor and her husband just goes along with her but shes beyond overprotective with Andy, He is secluded to his room and has dreams of playing baseball and always stares out the window.
This all changes when we meet MaryAnn, a new girl to the neighbourhood. After her mum and dad died she has moved with her grandparents. Maryann befriends Andy through the window and the pair get on well, Of course his mother strongly disapproves of this and initially bans her from coming over.
Then the movie starts to pick up... Marryann sneaks in with baseball gloves to surprise Andy. Katherine is on her way home from work early the pair are in a rush to get back to normal but Maryann has to escape through the basement and that is where she finds the families horrific secret... Not only has she got to prove to people that shes right but trying to save Andy at the same time All in all its a thriller not a horror but watchable and a good twist
Chained (2012)
Chained To My Seat Watching
Anchor Bay has produced some top horrors over the past few years but Chained is very underrated, The plot isn't anything to scream over but its executed well. Most reviews compare it to Bereavement but this deserves recognition in its own right.
We see Bob a serial killer taxi driver who prays on women. One day whilst working he picks up a women and her young son Tim. Obviously the woman gets killed but he keeps Tim.
Over a period of 10 years we see Tim whose now named Rabbit grown from a small child to adolescent whilst Bob still brings home women to kill. Rabbit is chained to a wall (hence the title) but Bob educates him with books so he becomes clever.
Flashbacks throughout the movie show Bobs shocking past, being abused by his dad and brother whilst graphically being forced to have sex with his mother The final half hour is where things start to pick up. Bob now wants to take Rabbit out 'hunting' Rabbit picks out a pretty girl called Angie but he starts to fall for this girl and is traumatised when he is forced to kill her. Unbeknown to them she didn't die and is ready to attack and with the help of Rabbit the over power Bob...
But its the ending that is surprising and also unexpected the twist will shock you..
With gore and suspense in the right places and a decent plot its un missable for horror and non horror fans alike
Koroshiya 1 (2001)
Manga Madness
Takeshi Miki a cult Japanese director this was always on the watchlist, also based on a manga series it was bound to be a good watch.
I heard beforehand it was a gore fest, but as an avid horror watcher it wouldn't be a problem. Also this movie isn't actually a horror, its based on rival Yakuza gangs in Japan.
The basic storyline Is gang boss Anjo has fled with a prostitute and millions of yen. His sadomasochistic henchman Kakihara along with fellow gang members are on the hunt for him. They capture rival gangster Jiji and torture him to reveal whereabouts but to no avail and release him. Unbeknown to them Jiji has been manipulating Ichi a young man with great skills into murdering, and now he is after Kakihura and the other gang members.
Gore at its finest. This movie explores the lengths of what gangsters do to find out the truth and cut of people as quickly as you can say that
Irréversible (2002)
Amazingly Disturbing
As a fan of the New French Extremity movement with films like Martyrs and Frontiers I thought id give Irreversible a viewing. I wasn't disappointed and Gasper Noe did an amazing job.
As a pre warning I can see how this movie at times can be difficult to watch, a 10 minute rape scene involving lead Monica Bellucci was very horrific one of the worst in film history, but this scene is what the film is based around.
The movie is great cinematography with the events being told in reverse chronological order So the film begins with a man named Pierre being arrested after he and friend Marcus are seen bashing a 'Le Tenia' head in with a fire extinguisher. With great lighting and intense filming we see these men show erratic behaviour for a while until we hit that scene... The brutal 10 minute rape scene that will shock everyone. From that moment we realise the movie is a bout Marcus wanting revenge for his partner Alex brutal assault and her Ex Pierre citing revenge. From that moment on we see the events leading up to that night including a part scene and regular young group of friend scenes...
The ending has a moving scene when we realise Alex that morning had found out she was pregnant.
Gasper Noe cleverly showed how time can change a whole lifetime, Alex woke up a happy free young woman with love all around and how over the course of that night everything changed Defiantly hard to watch but great directing
Snuff-Movie (2005)
Marmite Movie
Im not a fan of English horror movies I always find they lack something, but not to be biased I gave Snuff Movie a watch as on title alone I could imagine it being very graphical but indeed I was wrong...
So the movie centres around Boris Adkin, a film director. In the 60s his pregnant wife was brutally murdered by a Manson cult style gang or was she? decades later Boris is making a directorial comeback and invites a group of English actors to his mansion for an audition. Unbeknown to them its for a live snuff site...
This is one to avoid if you just watch movies for gore, for the avid horror fan its a love hate movie you'll either love the cleaver and twisting of the movie or will find it a bore, confusing and drags on for too long
The Final Girls (2015)
80s Slasher Modern Day Twist
Slasher horrors in todays society always get the predictable, cliché story lines high school murderer or man with a vengeance but Final Girls has a little spin.
A brief plot outline... Former scream queen Amanda from the Camp Bloodbath series has just had another failed audition and moans to her daughter max in the car about never do horrors... In a sweet scene the pair are happily singing along to Bettie Davis Eyes when the have a crash leaving Max the only survivor...
Years on the local cinema are having a double feature of the Camp Bloodbath movies Max agrees to go with her best friend Gertie, Horror fanatic ad Gerties brother Duncan, Max's crush Chris and stuck up Vicki. As the cinema starts to get excited a fire starts and seeing the only way to escape Max cuts through the screen, only to find them selves in the 1986 horror trying to survive. Especially when they realise the Final Girl is always a virgin.
The movie contains some humour as 80s characters try to blend in with the modern day many factors including clothes and technology.
Its comical, yet horror based and watchable by non horror fans as well, It has all the aspects to be a cult classic
The Lodge (2008)
The Only Good Thing... The Lodge View
I have no idea on where to start with The Lodge, there's many more wrongs then rights with this film. Is it the cliché "Why are you doing this" lines or the predictability. Most movies have a basic plot nothing to exciting but executed well this unfortunately wasn't.
The Plot... So basically Micheal wants to surprise his partner Julie by taking her to a nice lodge. When they arrive they believe someone else is living there it turns out to be the caretaker. Julie starts to find him a bit creepy but Micheal shrugs it off. Its only when the couple go walking in the woods they find an abandoned car with bloodstains they get suspicious. Runing back they try to find their phones of course they have gone and the phone lines have been cut. Whilst hunting they come across a tied up young girl they try to escape with. Cliché enough she turns out to be on the caretakers side and the movie becomes a cat and mouse thriller.
No its the not the best movie made, I wouldn't say its worth a buy but if its on TV its watchable. For the hardcore horror fan its one you would be okay about missing
sxtape (2013)
Another Found Footage Disappointment
I have mentioned in my other reviews that found footage isn't my favourite in the horror genre only a few I liked, but I feel this one is too cliché and predictable. It flows of many other similar style films.
Saying that is does have a few good things going for it, the lead actress is very attractive and the couple had a very wild side which maybe could of been explored more? Its only when 2 new characters were brought in the first half hour was okay.
So the plot.., We start of seeing a woman being interviewed by detectives explaining her partner has died, then it shows Los Angeles artist Jill having her life videoed by partner Alex, the couple have a very sexual manor and nothing is too extreme. Alx tells Jill he has the perfect place for an artshow, an old institute for bad women. Wanting to look inside Jill goes in and find some disturbing things. Regardless of what they found Jill straps herself to a gurney and Alex insists on making a sex tape... After jokingly leaving her for a few minutes it turns to disaster an angry ghost unknowingly takes over her.
This is when the movie goes downhill... the couple leave after being shaken up but bump into friends Bobby (a flirty womaniser who wants Jill) and his partner Ellie. The film turns into more macho trying to get Jills attention ignoring the fact shes possessed.
The ending isn't so bad I wont give that away but I guess that makes the movie somewhat redeemable
