Bowfinger (1999)
10/10
Gut bustingly funny!
30 March 2018
We have seen Bowfinger 3 times over the years, with years between viewings. Each time it is still fresh, new, absolutely HILARIOUS, and a real treat. In 2018 is still holds up as well as it did in 1999.

What a comedy and writing genius Steve Martin is, with Eddie Murphy acting his double role just brilliantly.

Scene after scene of clever funny lines, hilarious physical comedy and a really clever satire of Hollywood and the whole film making business.

Pure genius!! So, so, so funny!!

Get Out (I) (2017)

No. Just no.
14 May 2017
This movie in a word... TERRIBLE.

If you want to see a comedy, go see a comedy. If you want to see a horror, go see a horror. This movie claiming to be both of those things is an insult to both genres. There is NO comedy or horror to be seen here.

There's got to be a way to explain the 'hype' and positive reviews about this boring movie. I think it's mostly because critics wouldn't dare hate on as it would label them racist.

You have the feeling this is about the director, up on his soapbox, expressing his racism towards whites. But, hey, its seems it's OK for them to do that. They get applauded for it.

To sum up - Boring, Dull, Slow, Very Predictable (I saw the plot unfolding a mile away) Not funny or scary. Total waste of a Saturday night.

Arrival (II) (2016)

Such disappointment
20 November 2016
Very slow moving movie that has way less to do with Aliens, than the life story of Louise (Amy Adams).

Can hardly be classed a sci fi in my book as the alien story was unexplored and pointless, and lacking any surprise, intrigue, suspense, excitement, fun or amazement you hope to see in science fiction. It was about Louise and her slow, bleak, depressing life story.

The story gets more confusing the further in you get, until the ending had my husband saying WTF was that about, and me needing another 15 mins of thinking time to get it.

The credits rolled and I swear everyone just sat there unmoving.. it was like the whole cinema were going 'what was that about'? Or maybe 'that was a waste of money'.

Typical Hollywood trying to be too cerebral for its own good, I can only think the director made this in hope of an Oscar.

Hilarious action fun
21 May 2016
Jason Statham hilarious

Melissa McCarthy so funny

Rose Byrne excellent funny

Miranda Hart classic funny

Peter Serafinowicz funny sleaze

Bobby Cannandale, Jude Law, Allison Janney.... Everyone was fantastic and had such a big part in making this movie so much fun.

Brilliant lines, great fun, so many laughs we busted our guts laughing.

I can't believe some people gave this one star - I'm so glad those people aren't in my life. They must have no sense of humour.

BTW we are a couple in our 50's so don't think for a minute this is a young person movie.

Brilliant lines, story, acting, action and ridiculous hilarious fun.

We hope for Spy 2 and a proper Face Off machine!!

Inside Out (I) (2015)
10/10
Brilliant, Beautiful, Emotional, Hilarious
22 November 2015
My title says exactly what both my husband and I thought of Inside Out. We are both nearing 50 and find it very hard to accept the negative reviews on here are genuine. Are these people dead inside?

Inside Out was a sheer and utter delight to watch, visually beautiful and conceptually amazing. Stunningly animated characters, all given such entertaining personalities and all living in the head of an 11 year old girl.

We could have turned around and watched it all over again without hesitation - there were so many extremely funny moments and the very emotional climax was really just a 10 minute part, it wasn't milked to become painful, a clever balance.

It's a movie anyone with a heart should see. Anyone who's brave enough to feel emotion should see, anyone who appreciates sharp writing, stunning animation and visual beauty should see. One of Pixars finest.

What a load of.....
25 July 2015
This movie was a terrible, unrealistic, over the top ridiculous waste of time.

The only redeeming part was the great orchestral jazz, but the characters, story and, well everything really, means this movie should not be getting the positive reviews it has.

Where in the world would anyone be able to get away with treating students like this? It's utterly ridiculous cr** and I cannot believe this was even given approval be made in these days of human rights and anti bullying. What a disgrace.

In addition, we found the story so predictable - it was sort of like a REALLY bad Rocky but based on music, except Rocky had heart, soul and a relatable endearing underdog story. All the characters in this were totally unlikeable, unrelatable and awful, who cares what happens to any of them?

All in all this is an over-hyped horrible sad attempt at movie making and a great opportunity totally missed.

Nightcrawler (2014)
10/10
Outstanding and original
12 April 2015
Wow! I went into this with great trepidation fearing it would be too gruesome or tense but what a ride! Truly amazing acting from Jake Gyllenhaal and also great work by the support cast.

It was so exciting, thrilling, gripping and darkly comedic from the opening scene. It didn't miss a beat.

Nightcrawler's originality and styling needs to be applauded, it was slick, effective and so professionally directed.

I urge you to see Nightcrawler and the brilliant acting of Jake Gyllenhaal playing this 'likeable' sociopathic character he so clearly owned.

Excellent movie. 10 stars.

Entertaining
22 September 2014
WoWS was an entertaining ride. Although very long, so I watched it in 2 parts which helped.

The main character is a despicable man, for what he did and got away with for so long. Totally unscrupulous human being.

But the movie had some laughs and was well acted and directed. Leo and Jonah were both excellent. Not so sure about Margot Robbie but she seemed to get better as the movie went along, or maybe I just got used to her character I don't know.

I don't know how the actors do what they needed to for this movie... It's pretty much soft porn in many places. I guess the fat pay cheques help.

Overall, don't watch this if you don't like swearing, sex, nudity, drugs, or dodgy behaviour.

But if you don't mind that it is a fun, entertaining, often funny, often dramatic movie with quality acting and interesting story. How true it all is totally questionable. Of course he went to jail but the rest could be and probably is hugely embellished.

Fun time had by all!
10 August 2013
Reading some of these reviews it's amazing how so many people seem to have forgotten just how to sit back, turn off their brains and go for a fun ride. Just relax people!!

My hubby and I (both mid '40's) loved this movie. It was a happy enjoyable ride with a great soundtrack of rocking '80's songs.

The cast were all EXCELLENT, quite a lot of laughs throughout and quality performances by all. It's obviously not an Oscar winner or anything, but what is wrong with that? It's great to just be thoroughly entertained with a creative and rocking movie, and left feeling happy! If you like 'up' movies, some light entertaining fun and great '80's rock SEE THIS!

Great Fun!
26 July 2013
This movie is just a fun, laugh a minute ride and should not be taken seriously.

Witty, hilarious dialogue, silly scenes and a lot of fun.

There was so much laughter at certain scenes it was hard to hear the dialogue, so you know people are having a fun & happy night out! There were continual laughs throughout due to the witty lines and expert delivery, with some real high points of absolute hilarity.

All those people who gave this movie 1,2 & 3's really need to relax, allow themselves to enjoy a simple silly movie that's not trying to win Oscars, but is simply made to entertain and make people happy. And if they're so concerned with a bit of swearing and mild violence then stick to those serious arty dramas.

Ted (2012)

Hilariously inappropriate!
23 February 2013
Ted is a smart, witty, sharp lined and hilariously offensive movie to which my hubby and I both busted a gut laughing at. We were still chuckling at parts 2 days later!

If you are easily offended, or unprepared to just go for a silly fun ride, this movie would not be for you. It pokes fun at just about everything and everyone and is the opposite of politically correct.

We are not fans of Family Guy, however do love American Dad.. Ted is a great example of the hilarious comedic writing (& acting) Seth McFarlane is capable of.

Can't wait for Ted 2!

SO disappointing
7 October 2012
I wanted to enjoy this movie, I really did. I really like both Jason Segal and Emily Blunt and thought this double, with Judd Apatow directing would be a sure fire winner with lots of laughs and entertainment.

I was wrong. Disappointingly, this was so slow and lacking everything a good movie should be. It seemed to limp along, struggling to make a story out of what was pretty much no story, and only provided the odd chuckle earlier on in the film.

And then it just went on....and on...

The whole situation was really quite implausible in todays modern society, and seemed quite ridiculous in parts. It was then filled with unconnected random ideas and scenarios just written in to build jokes around, and then the jokes just fell flat.

Seriously, don't waste 2 hours of your evening on this.

Enjoyable ride
23 June 2012
If you are wanting an easy, enjoyable, Aussie road trip movie, spend 2 hours with Charlie & Boots. The movie moves along at a nice pace, has tender moments and plenty of laugh out loud moments. It also has some beautiful scenery and cinematography.

Don't go into it expecting any kind of Hollywood movie, it is a true Australian movie, understated, funny and overall very entertaining. Most Australians will be able to relate to something throughout this movie..

We were very pleasantly surprised and glad we watched it.

Keep watching until the credits end.
