Epic Poem, Aura to Eyes, Frames pour like Water
18 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I believed a visually pleasing epic film would have no pace in it. But Dune 2 achieves a visually poetic frames that moves like painting and with a pace that keeps us glued. Screenplay wise, I think there were some liberties, slightly overlooking logic perhaps from creative side, with convenient writing. Zendaya and Timothee excelled in performance. For the first time, I rarely focused on Hans Zimmer's work. The movie was that good, even if the audio track is silenced. Editing, like in the first part, is so smooth. It felt like I watched a great epic series with manipulative characters unfolding slowly.

Inspiration put well
11 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Great acting! Malayalam cinemas continue to attempt making world class cinemas. As for the story, I didn't like it why the twins got separated. It was not convincing why vinod was running away from his mother and sibling. But the inspiration from Incendies or Oldboy was put to good use when Pramod is in a situation where he can never meet his daughter again. Anjali was placed as a misdirection, but worked well. Her acting was matured and perfect. The movie has created a sensation and word of mouth positive reviews. This will be new and great for those who hadn't watched Oldboy and Incendies. 7/10.

The story demanded a proper live action film
15 August 2022
Like his previous oththa seruppu film, IN had great story to be shot as a proper live action film. It now has great staging and blocking, no doubt. But, it looked like theatrical drama. With Parthiban's sense of direction and shot conception, this film would have won real awards instead of 'world's first..' 'india's first..' etc. And VFX cg could have been better..

Sai pallavi and Kaali venkat shine
15 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Direction and other technical details are good. This story is a must-told one for today's audience. The screenplay could have been better. The writing had many red herrings, overlooking basic elements like drug dosage, unclear explanation that convicts are 'five' in number etc.,. A worthy urban investigation that fell into a compulsive twist factor, perhaps to meet 'hero-ine' status (just like Aramm ending or so). I'd compare the project to Manikandan's Kuttramey Thandanai for its simplicity and technical greatness.

What a first half!!
29 March 2022
Movie started off well and the racy ride pulled easily through the intermission. I was reminded of a great Tamil movie named "Inaindha Kaigal." But here, in a broader setting, the story revolved around a smaller premise, and that had to give out some repetitive screenplay pattern. Regardless of any views, this is a proud moment for Indian cinema. And, Ram Charan stole the show.

Dune (2021)
9/10
The one that we deserve and need right now
22 October 2021
Dune will last longer like the great old movies. A perfect unravelling of the story lays a strong foundation for further parts. The screenplay, the acting and the music are all excellent. Denis' vision of this classic epic was somehow surprising to me because it proved to be awesome without catering to the current commercial requirements. However, I felt like the story progress got halted beyond the midpoint and then it was mostly exhibition of elements. I was left wanting more. This, to me, did not suit the movie structure but rather more of an episodic structure. But, overall, we need movies like Dune because it respects emotional arcs in a story, applies the right story telling methods and is mainly directed by someone who knows direction, remember Incendies.

Good story, poor screenplay
14 September 2021
The story had a great scope for playing around. But the movie was made like a funny B grade horror flick. The untimely comic dialogues and quickly jumping sequences affect our watch. A slow burning supernatural James Wan flick is way better than this half-boiled conglomeration. However, the James Wan twist saved the money for me.

Great direction. New perspective of superhero movies
3 April 2021
I never expected this lengthy cut to be so good. I realized superhero movies can be directed as good as drama movies if they are not rushing with two second edits. Snyder did a great job. Great writing. The movie is not the best but close to Nolan's DC movies. This is what we need. I don't mind seeing a 4 hour movie if it is made this way. Sad that the theatrical version was damaged so very much because of wrong guidance. I wonder how big names just overlooked such a good product being thwarted earlier. The power of one man's vision, if left to his decision, makes huge difference. This is DC's time!

The Mandalorian: Chapter 9: The Marshal (2020)
Season 2, Episode 1

it is good but not new, fans please stop
20 January 2021
With great expectation, I started to watch season 2. I felt majority of the ideas are borrowed or already seen. It felt repetitive too. A show such as this with varied characters and great scope needs more digging for awesome storylines. I wonder how it receives 10 and above 90 ratings. Compare it to another 10 star show.

terrific pilot from acquaintances to a detective from London
30 January 2020
It is always challenging to retell an already polished story. But the writers here are Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis. It is always to a pleasure to pause the video, enjoy their dialogues for a second time and continue playing the episode. Dracula is no different. In today's world where the viewers are expecting a racy, fancy and temporarily hooking ideas, this BBC series is still holding on to what is a real TV show. I am a Doctor Who fan and any creation from Steven Moffat is a bliss to watch.

A proper elaborated Super 8
23 March 2018
The show is highly entertaining. It has ample scopes in proceeding with sequels. The kids acting were awesome and although we don't see much of a neighborhood, the story kept coming. It was clear and probably intentional to acknowledge the inspirations from Spielberg's, King's It and some local myths. I felt more similarities, perhaps a rip-off, to JJ's Super 8. Although it's good, I was slightly disappointed because I watched this show first and wondered at the originality.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

best story on a cheap wood
7 July 2017
I saw the movie five years ago, the time of my starting to watch US movies. I rated it 8 then, not knowing the awesomeness it bequeaths. I knew I was wrong but to correct my rating, I have to watch again. I recently did and man, this is one of the best scripts ever. I was blown with the thoughts, the screenplay, the comedy, the performance and what not? This has surpassed the list of movies that are beyond ratings. One more, at the least, like this in Tarantino's career is what a fan like me would beg. Pulp Fiction, first class graphic fiction in an unfinished paper, best story on a cheap wood - the pulp.

Okja (2017)

great visuals
3 July 2017
I am just another fan of Joon-ho Bong. Okja had beautiful visuals and music. But when directors such as him have unrestrained budget from big networks and producers, why go for a similar story-line like The Host or Tom Yum Goong? I missed 'Mother' kind of awesomeness in this. However, today's and possibly the future's problem of mankind dealing with 'manufactured' food is portrayed in a very good way. It's not surprising that Jake Gyllenhaal was great. The movie was worth my time but I expected more from the guy who made 'Memories of Murder.' Watch it for the visuals, music, acting and comedy.

13 Reasons Why (2017–2020)
6/10
TV's Twilight Saga
3 July 2017
I liked the pilot very much. Having an expectation following the pilot, I believed the future episodes would be reasonable. Characters can be flawed, may be stupid for a while, but not forever. I was greatly disappointed and frightened if this series would turn as a suicide propaganda for teens to revenge on fellow students for frivolous or major incidents. Unnecessary red-herrings and wavering characters spoiled the rest of the show. At a moment, I thought Twilight had some scope. Not more than a couple of 'reasons' seemed acceptable. Perhaps there are people like Hannah, but I wonder how many stupid Clays would substantiate her decision. As a viewer, I was confused as to who I should follow for both the major characters have whimsical attitudes. At least to me who is not in the US, I could not root for the protagonists and this show seems so average. I'd rate 7 for the show's idea that is good, 8 for editing and 6 overall.

You would want to be a filmmaker
7 May 2017
Even before the midpoint I was heading to IMDb for a 10 on 10 rating. Tons of bank robbery movies out there and this is just mind-blowing. Unique, funny, natural (thanks to the casting and performance) and awesome till the end. I could not get over Cazale's dialogue of not wanting to have a smoke. He may have had cancer during that time. He died three years later of lung cancer. Great performance by him too.

I can't thank Sidney Lumet and the writer enough for the experience I had gone through while watching this masterpiece. Fact indeed is incredibly stranger than fiction. I am watching for the first time and could not seriously believe the movie was made in 70s. I will watch again to enjoy, and learn. In our language, we call it "Otha, maasu!"

Death loves life, life befriends death
24 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The host is just an intermediate being connecting life and death. One of the touching short movies I have seen. It is the duty of death to take lives despite it's being cute and never liked it's job.

This is a fantastic idea. I loved the way the director thought inside-out.

When the main character, death, hesitates to do his job, the life befriends it, helps in its job, living a short lived great friendship.

Could have been longer.. Just for the idea, I rate it 9 or 10. Who am I? A soul with one half, the life, wanting to meet the other half, the death.

The feel, you name it, you will have it
16 September 2016
The tension builds up gradually and in a very natural way that you have moved to the edge of the seat without yourself knowing. Be it emotional scenes or racy scenes, the makers have dealt well with the psychology of audience. This is exactly how an outbreak would be. Certain scenes were like a flowering among nightmares. Great acting by everyone. Visual effects were realistic. Cinematography and Editing went hand in hand. Tension, affection, fear, humanity, betrayal, you name it, you will feel it.

I don't think we need six seasons to convey this kind of story.

Hollywood please refrain from remaking this. No, God, No!

The very possibility of future technologies
24 May 2016
You give man excitement, a source and niche. The pleasure is so much that he would even fail to ask whether he is manipulated or not.

One of the best short creations I have ever seen. Hope this would turn into a feature, just to reach more people as it is already awesome. Though it slightly reminded me of psycho-pass, this live action has good feel and an awesome moral. The execution is very neat and this is a next-gen making. Screenplay is real good. With just match cuts, the story is unraveling. I wish the team creates more of this brainy movie stuff.

10/10.
