It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
The Special that remains dear to one's heart
I just finished watching it and I thought to myself, "I've seen this special every Halloween since I was little, I wonder what I'd be like without it?" Still to this day I say those one-liners in the show that are priceless. Probably my most favorite quote, "There are three things in life that should never be discussed with people: Religion, Politics, and the Great Pumpkin." The whole show is truly a classic. The jokes towards Charlie are hilarious. Snoopy's mannerisms are priceless. And of course, when Sally and Linus are in the pumpkin patch and Sally realizes that she wasted Halloween with a 'blockhead' she is so angry "I'll sue!" she said.
The Great Dictator (1940)
The Tramp is a GENIUS!!!
What an amazing performance by probably the most talented comedian in history! His over-acting personality fits perfectly of a parody of Hitler. I'm sure he's was outraged when the Tramp did this film, but he deserves it. The final scene is one of my favorites in the whole movie. Throughout the whole film you see a comedian making fun of one of the most evil humans in history, but in the end you a truly amazing actor who almost looks as if he's going to cry give an amazing speech of human dignity. The acting from Charlie Chaplin is probably the best performance of the the 1940's in my opinion. In this film he could make people laugh, cry, rejoiced with love or (if your a Nazi) hate him. The point is... his performance was amazing and I think it is by far his best work.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Defines the Talent of Burton: Whoa!!!
Most people back away from this film for it's somewhat disturbing look. However, if one actually sits down and watches it. They will be literally Blown Away!!! Take Wallace and Gromet for example, though they have a much "cornier look" then Nightmare Before... does but it has the same basic principles. Completely stop-motion but with a unique edge and a much well developed storyline. The story doesn't have a message that we can relate to personally, but a message that just makes us think, "Can you imagine if holidays collided?" Though the thought maybe unbareable, it still is fascinating. I have always enjoyed this film and I think I'll enjoy it for years to come.
Edward Scissorhands (1990)
One of Johnny's and Tim's finest!
I'm not the biggest Tim Burton fan. He tends to annoy me with his dark edge. However, I have only enjoyed three of his films: Nightmare before Christmas, Batman and Edward Scissorhands. The acting is very well by Johnny and Winona. The innocence betrayed in Johnny is so well betrayed as a young child trying to fit in his area around him but struggles because he is different. The attraction Winona develops is convincing in my opinion and shows the connection of emotion they share. Tim Burton's work is VERY well done. He betrays the American life of the 60s well. The question of acceptance is well done as well. The final scene is one of my favorites. The music is Excellent by Danny Elfman and as well as the story by Tim Burton I believe. 9/10
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Walt Disney is Genius!
It was in 1933 Walt's mind began to picture a film that would revolutionize the industry of Hollywood forever. With a cost of over one million dollars and more then three years of production he could not afford a flop. Critics predicted the worst for Walt's film. Though it was impressive from the animators prospective no one else knew what to expect. On December of 1937 the world finally saw the masterpiece. People laughed and cried and were excited and were frightened. Walt received more money then he had ever dreamed of having. Today the film has earned more then $1 Billion! Though today we may look at it with a feeling... this film isn't that ahead of it's time. I saw one comment here saying that when Dumbo and Bambi were released it was much better quality. That is true, but like from all films, they have to learn from mistakes. They obvisiously learned amazingly!
AC/DC: Stiff Upper Lip Live (2001)
Angus too old for Rock??? No Way!!!
He is the god of true insanity! He is the one who inspired Van Halen, Metallica, Jack Black, UFO, Guns N' Roses, Jet, Judas Priests, Def Leppard, White Snake, Kiss, and ME!!! His name is Angus Young. He is over fifty years old but still can play as he did when he was eighteen when AC/DC was formed. The Stiff Upper Lip Tour was their most recent tour. It was in 2001 and the album was critically acclaimed all over the world. The tour featured the expected effects at any AC/DC concert including: Hells Bells, the Whole Lotta Rosie blow up women, the 21 firing cannons for the finale, and of course his famous strip act of country of origin. This concert also included more effects like the large Angus statue and the platform which extended into the crowd. Even though they are getting older, they still ROCK!!! (unlike the Stones, haha!) I'd highly recommend this DVD. It features their real old classics from the High Voltage album to the Back in Black album.
Airplane! (1980)
Arguely the greatest comedy of all time!!!
Most people say Airplane! is one of the stupidest movies of all time. The reason why is because they thought the film was poor due to the fact there was no true center plot that was well developed. Though I agree the main story is somewhat weak, the film is SO funny.
It doesn't matter what kind of humor you like, everything from smart, random, goofy, punchline, and even corny comedy You Will Laugh!!! your brains out.
The film has so much comedy that in order to catch every joke, you have to watch the film at least 6 times. Even I find new jokes and punchlines. The movie features punchlines that are constantly quoted everyday.
I consider it as the film that started it all. It brought a new form of comedy to film and created something that has changed pop culture forever. I gave it a ten and you will too!
JFK (1991)
The most phenomenal film ever made... but be ready to be Shocked!!!
I gave JFK a vote of 10!!! I saw this film for the first time recently and I watched the Director's Cut. My jaw dropped to the floor the whole time. I was amazed on how uncredible the evidence was towards Lee Harvey Oswald. This film made me concerned about the CIA and what they do. Before this movie, I thought it was Oswald and it never crossed my mind that it couldn't have been. But after seeing this movie, you'll believe how dumb we all were to believe in the story our government gave us on who killed JFK! He only wanted peace with Vietnam but our money thristy government wanted war to get more money so... they Kill Him!!! But the story is not just the best part of the movie. The film had an Unbelievable cast!!! No one did a bad job in this film. With the film being full of celebrities, you know it's got potential. Also, Oliver Stone did a Master work of art with this film. The filming, cinematography, editing, music, everything was flawless! It brought new awarenss in our country, and at the end of the movie it said Congress was to review which files were to be revealed and which were to be never shown to the public due to the making of this film. I was amazed! Not by that, but by the film! I gave it 10 stars and it deserves it. I'm not saying it deserved Best Picture rather then Silence of the Lambs, but Oliver Stone definitely deserved Best Director!
Jurassic Park (1993)
Spielberg's Second Saga of Action films!
Jurassic Park is very well done. The film has a good cast and great special effects. But of course, you all know Spielberg has the potential of making great movies. However, I was disappointed in the story. The original story (from the book) was to prove the fact how humans can easily destroy themselves when it comes to tampering with nature, but Steven never really brings out that message as it was suppose to be. It was more focused on the action and adventure of the dinosaurs. But for those who never even heard of the book wouldn't have any disappointment. I thought Richard Attenborough did a good job portraying the role of John Hammond and I think Jeff Goldblum is great in it as well. Sam Neill and Laura Dern did average jobs on the film I think (Laura Dern up by one point). So with the cast, Spielberg, and his friend George Lucas who developed the special effects, I think you got a great film!
