My only problem with Kubrick films is that I either find them painful (emotionally/psychologically) to watching over and over again. This is one of the only reasons I can't grant 10/10 to any of them.

This list took a lot of thought and revisiting, so look well. I'm working my way up from 50 with a paragraph of personal commentary per director.

True Grit (2010)
True Grit - Have a go at it!
OVERALL: 7.8 / 10
Plot/Screenplay (minor spoilers): 7/10
Just like the original John Wayne True Grit, the story lineated by encounters; and, just like the old True Grit, they are often uneventful and indistinct. Nevertheless, when action does take place, like the negotiations and gunfights, it does become very exciting; however, many scenes are totally impertinent and don't contribute whatsoever to the story (i.e. weirdo bear pelt wearing "dentist", the high hanging man scene, grandma sleeping scenes). Given the brevity of the film, a mere 110 minutes, it seems such a waste to kill the run time with introductions of arbitrary elements for subplot development which unfortunately don't progress at all all.
Script: 3/5
The dialogue sounds totally unnatural for the most part; I attribute this mostly to little Mattie Ross' profoundly eloquent mode of speech, which at some points it sounds more like a Shakespearean actor's dialogue than that of a believable 14 year old girl raised in the archaic educational system of the 19th century American West. Other instances of haughty speech are farted out but it plagues only a few characters; nevertheless, it is a great pity that the Cohen brothers spent more time looking in the thesaurus than the original novel when it came to writing some of the dialogue.
Acting: 4/5
Next to cinematography, I think the acting, not character development, is most impressive; particularly, Jeff Bridges, Barry Pepper, and Josh Brolin. Their eyeless, toothless, and muffled accents of the rustic American west tough guy personalities will be sure to please any viewer. Everyone else falls more or less into the neutral range. I don't care what anyone says about Mattie Ross being a phenomenal actress and worthy of BAFTA and Oscar nominations; it's the dialogue that drives her character! I dare make such an analogy and compare her, and her ponytailed hair, to the ponytailed teenager Judy Garland in the classic film The Wizard of Oz. Garland possessed such an astounding acting quality that she could to bring an audience to tears by the mention of a phrase while Ross provokes no such reaction and only incites our flattery with a verbal conundrum and pokerfaced countenances. As for character development, I honestly think the horse Blackie developed more than any of the characters, all the way to its death.
Score/Soundtrack: 4/5 Beautiful as I've been accustomed to is Carter Burwell's work. True Grit's score reminds me much of the swelling melodies, and majestic orchestral flow of Miller's Crossing (1990) and Fargo (1996) with a pinch of the Wild West. The Iris Dement closing track was lovely and brought well suited closure.)
Cinematography: 4/5 Some absolutely lovely shots decorate this film whether you find the wander into a court house or free reining the forest countryside. You can't beat the work of Roger Deakins as he is without question one of the best cinematographers in contemporary Hollywood.
Sound & Editing: 5/5 There's very little to complain about when watching a Cohen Bro's movies in terms of editing. These fellows know the ropes and ranks of making a well segued film. The fade to blacks get a little trite but overall it's nothing to complain about
Scenery & Costumes: 4/5 (There's little dissatisfaction these days when it comes to costumes and scenery in a big budget film. I especially enjoyed seeing the 19th century town, courthouse, and home interiors. Nothing extremely impressive though.)
31/40
P.S. How many people think the MPAA has some serious common sense issues?
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Not very shocking
I just want to say this in refutation of other people attempting to shock everyone into going to see The Passion of the Christ for its brutality. Mel Gibson is known to make utterly violent images ie. braveheart, but in this movie only one person is seen killed, Jesus.
The substance of violence in this movie is fairly mild compared to Braveheart and people in no way should be compelled to view this movie thinking that it is explicitly terrifying.
Overall it is a very good movie that depicts the last few hours of Christ. It does a good job of showing the pain Christ went through for our savior. It also does a good job of depicting the event in actuality. The language is entirely in Aramaic, Hebrew, or Latin.
Blade Runner (1982)
A bright but dark gritty Enigma
I have seen several movies in my time, too many really. But this one has a big question mark over its head. Unexplained blue's and philosophical mishaps can question its existence. The existence of people that is. The point that the movie is trying to get across is life is precious. Phillip K Dick and Riddley Scott had the same intent.
Excellent acting done by Harrison Ford and the replicants (Sean young, Rutgar Hauer, Daryl hannah, Joanna Cassidy, and the deceased Brion James.) They're acting is good enough to provoke a sensitive look on what the intent of the story was. Excellent lighting to form a gritty look on the future in 2019. Skyscraping buildings portray an excellent set decoration that should have won the oscar in 1982.
Perfection by Art decoration in the urban streets of LA 2019. This movie also shows how much pollution the world has left behind. Constant acid rain, garbage, smoke etc. It depicts very well how careless humans can be to the minds of others. Who knows maybe we will suck up every resource on this earth and have to move to another planet to colonize.
Excellent director Ridley Scott who brought you Alien, Thelma and Louise, and Gladiator. This Movie is derived from the novel "Do androids dream of electric sheep." It sounds kind of off ended but you will know what it means after seeing this movie. Very good plot and visual effects that should have wiped out E.T. in the oscars but before 1991 Blade Runner was stuck with a voice over narration by Harrison Ford which removed its dark noir inquiry.
When you watch the movie you can tell how even the replicants can have biological "FAKE" emotions. But the question you must ask yourself is, is it moral to the humain protocal. When they are being retired they hang on to their life as much as we do. Their struggle till their last drop of sweat is out of their blood and they mearily colapse to the powerful impact of a 38. magnum. Should creations we make ourself that initiate to environment we collapse to their knee's and recieve enforcement.
The movie is the best portrayer of that senario only in a dark un-narrated fashion. Adement reactions is what Gadhi had although in this futuristic sci-fi noir the only possetion is a story to tell. The damask rose and oragami figures are the symbols that personify the reactions and co-essence of humans and their genetic creations.
The only way to understand is to try and interpret Blade Runner Or "do androids dream of electric sheep" by Phillip K. Dick. Questions still arise and vivid deciphering of what the novel meant is still oblivious to us all.
Maybe we didn't understand our emotions enough to go on and create beings exatcly like ourselves without witnessing the consequences. Phillip K. Dick isn't alive anymore so the only way to decipher the enigma is to explore it yourself.

Donnie Darko (2001)
Thumbs up - a good-see look-see
Excellent movie good for one see but it is probably not one that someone would want to watch over and over again. Spectacular acting by Jake Gyllenhaal as Donnie Darko. The plot is very unbalanced and confusing but can be unravelled with a little thinking (there are some parts however that make absolutely no sense... Actually a lot of parts. This film would've been much better by making a few changes ie. Erasing Duran Duran audio playback in live film action, hyper filmaphotography (This isn't suppose to be like snatch), and of course getting rid of all the nonsensicle scenes that have no effect on the plot course or whatsoever. 8/10 Thumbs up for a look-see. If your lovers of 12 monkeys or Dark City this movie is one in that genre. Watch out for Frank!!! HE IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE DEADLY RABBIT FROM HOLY GRAIL!!!
Snatch (2000)
Snatch me a Pulp movie
A new bread of films are out and yes Guy Riche is posing Tarantino with His lock stock movies. drama+comedy+crime+noir = Pulp... Bruce Willis+Woody Harrilson = Jason Statham in an unforgetable piece of junk. Dont kid me wrong this is an acceptionaly good piece of junk- one of the most beutifull trash piles ever compiled by an englishman (honestly the best thing thats come out of England since the 60's). Snatch Adds crazy camera angles, Bizzare cinematography, Frame hopping, and twists and turns that will leave a viewer with his head up his ass. A new aged film that takes 2 or more different situations and runs them into eachother faster than starbucks is taking over America. A car crash with primary charactors that has to do with main charactors throwing milk on their wind shield with cessation to proke more main characters to get into Extrinsicality a fancy word desiphered in English to be a "mishap". Yes this is a Must SEE for pulp fans but those of you who are just out to see PITT shining like he normally does you will be deeply disappointed. This is not as good as its brother (Lock Stock and 2 smoking barrels) but is alot funnier. Magnificent Directing By Riche and even better acting by the cast members. And for those of you who would like to see Austin Powers aged to about 70 years keep your Eyes pealed for the sick old "bullet Dodger" who chops up men and feeds them to pigs (a similar sickness idea/skit to Pulp Fictions "the gimp").
enJoy!

Léon (1994)
A fluke
Very good, acting a movie for romance and action lovers combined. Not the greatest plot line but an outstanding performance by gary oldmen. This film is apparantly correlated to the 1990 film "miller's crossing" a drama/gangster/romance film that adds a little noir to finish the movie. I wouldn't recommend watching this unless you enjoy this genre. If not this movie is a simple civil crowd pleasure for some people. If you want romance combined with action/gangster I would advise you to see the above movie (Miller's crossing) or some arbitrary movie involving Gun's and Romance. To my knowledge that can not be done with exceptions of notable movie's you've probobly seen or heard of. The real thing that will leave you crying is the excellent score By Eric Serra who composed movies such as Golden Eye, And The fifth element. Music scores have been notable for doing such...
If you look at all the comments made you will notice that they are all in favor of this movie. However this movie has gotten several bad rating's by critics and imdb members. The base line is you either care so deeply about this movie it causes you to write a 10 paragraph commentary on it. But then again the movie can concur a wide berth that will leave you saying.. That wasnt so great...
