My Dog Skip (2000)
Heart-Filled Family Movie
I have to say, My Dog Skip is one of the best movies I have seen in a loooooong while. The acting was tremendously convincing! Frankie Muniz is a spectacular actor and put real emotion into every scene. (Pay close attention to the walk in the woods!) Kevin Bacon also did a spectacular job portraying a complicated injured war veteran and father. And by far Enzo really steals the show, an absolute brilliant performance on his part. Kudos to the trainers! EVERYONE: SEE THIS MOVIE!
The Cider House Rules (1999)
Fantastic Movie
Since being an Irving fan, I really enjoyed the movie immensely. It was especially rewarding to watch, for Irving himself wrote the screenplay. The cast was great, totally sliding into the personality of their characters. And the scenery was spectacular, giving a good sense of the location and time. There are even some interesting, unexpected, twists. Adding to the atmosphere of the movie. A must see.
Star Kid (1997)
What's Wrong?
I've read quite a few reviews for this movie and was wondering what the problem was. Some people think the main actor, Joseph Mazzello, was wasting his time with this film, But I don't think it would have worked without him. I thought it was funny and enjoyable. Maybe the beginning was a little cheesy, but overall I would recommend this to watch.
The Cure (1995)
One Of The Most Touching Films Ever
This is one of those stories that makes you amazed at how dense people can be. Two outcasts becoming friends, despite the fact one of them has AIDS. (Which shouldn't be an issue anyways.) Brilliant acting performances by Joseph Mazzello and Brad Renfro. When they find an ad about someone finding the cure for AIDS, they go to find him. Although they don't quite get what they want or find what they want, the trip makes the bond between them stronger. Hence the point of the movie: "Friendship lasts a lifetime," and beyond, I think.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Wow
The moment I saw the preview for this movie, I instantly wanted to see it. What a relief to have a INTELLIGENT horror movie! Haley Joel Osment was spectacular, he portrayed a troubled, frightened kid perfectly! And Bruce Willis was amazing as a determined psychiatrist. But I think the best part of all was the ending! It was SO unexpected! Everyone should see this movie!
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
It could've been better...
I could say I am a Star Wars fan, stopping at the movies, and I was really looking forward to The Phantom Menace, but I have to say I was disappointed in the acting area. Don't get me wrong, I still loved the movie, but I think that George Lucas should have spent more time on the cast instead of the special effects. Probably the character with the MOST character would have to be Watto the Hut. Although I enjoyed the fight scene and the pod race scene immensely! ... and I still think that everyone should see it, even if you're not a Star Wars fan, because it's a really fun movie.
A Hard Day's Night (1964)
Very Funny
I'm not a Beatles fan, I wasn't even alive when they broke up, but I think that this movie was a hoot and a half! The music was great too. It was especially funny to have Paul's "grandfather" in the mix, making a mockery of the situation and pawning off the band. If you're in for a good laugh, this is the movie to watch!
The Haunting (1963)
Not Scary
I saw this movie a few days ago, and the people I was watching it with were saying things like, "This movie is so scary." So naturally I was expecting the fright of my life. It wasn't scary in the least bit, it wasn't scary at all! I was disappointed, but I found the screenplay to be a lot better then the new remake. And I'll admit, having Eleanor talk to herself made it a lot more creepy, in a sense. So if you don't want to be frightened, but you want to see a horror classic, I would recommend it for that.
Simon Birch (1998)
We Laughed, We Cried...
When I first went to see this movie, I was a bit reluctant. I thought it would be a copy of another movie coming out at the same time, The Mighty. They were nothing alike! This was a touching story of friendship and discovery, a tear-jerker, but also a roll-in-your-seat comedy. That's what made it a great movie. Again, GREAT casting! I read that Sandra Bullock was almost Ashley Judd's character (Rebecca Wenteworth.) I was glad she wasn't, no offense, but I think that Ashley Judd gave the character a certain old-fashion class that Sandra Bullock couldn't do. Some people complained that it didn't follow the book, I was relieved it didn't! The book is great and enjoyable, but I wouldn't want it to be a movie, it would be too weird as a movie. I recommend this movie to EVERYONE! It is GREAT!
Jurassic Park (1993)
A Movie Beyond Cool
I must say that Jurassic Park is the coolest movie I've ever seen. It has suspense, horror, adventure, betrayal (Nedry, sort of), and a great cast! I never get tired of seeing this movie (or reading the book.) And for all of you who haven't seen it, you must be from a different planet! No, seriously, it is a must see! TEN STARS AND BEYOND!
