Earlier this summer, Etta Friedman was visiting her family in Yerington, Nevada, when she crashed her cousin’s motorcycle and broke both wrists. “I let go of the clutch on the bike and popped a wheelie,” the 21-year-old musician says. “And then immediately went vroom! and went into the front of my aunt’s trailer and crashed directly into it.” Friedman was taken to the local hospital, where she was wrapped in splints. “They gave me this really old-school-looking baggie full of Percocet,” she adds. “I was like, ‘Very cool.

If someone asked you what recent pro wrestling superstar would probably win a major showbiz award first, your first thought might be Dwayne Johnson, who set aside his career as The Rock to become a movie star, arguably the most successful crossover ever from the WWE. But John Cena could actually beat him to the punch — or the body slam, as the case may be. He’s nominated for Best Game Show at the Daytime Emmys as an executive producer of Nickelodeon’s “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader,” which he also hosts.
A prime time version of “5th Grader” began in 2007 with comedian Jeff Foxworthy as host. It tested adults to see if they could answer questions taken from elementary school textbooks. Eventually the show transitioned to a daytime syndicated format. But it was off the air for several years before it was revived on the kids’ cable channel in 2019 headlined by Cena.

Newly launched Capacitor Studios is fast-tracking development of a television/streaming series with Cosmic Kids, the YouTube channel whose yoga and meditation exercises have become exceedingly popular with parents of small children during the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
Variety has learned that the new project, a mix of live action and animation, will “take kids on exciting yoga adventures and help them overcome challenges through movement and mindfulness.” Cosmic Kids Yoga creator and host Jaime Amor will anchor the series alongside animated characters and an interactive set.
The eight-year-old brand’s YouTube views now top 30 million a month, on average, and have brought in 250,000 new monthly subscribers amid the ongoing pandemic that has sent parents scrambling to find ways to keep their kids active and entertained while schools remain closed. The channel’s videos currently include yoga sessions inspired by “Frozen,” “Moana,” “Harry Potter,” “Star Wars,” and more.

British import The Crystal Maze is being reimagined as a family game show on Nickelodeon. We go behind the scenes to check it out!
To fans of a certain age, the dream of participating in a Nickelodeon game show could only be realized if you had a high tolerance for slime, but more crucially: the good fortune to be on a family vacation to Orlando. Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios' Florida outpost was the epicenter of the network—from game shows like Double Dare to sketch comedy with All That—throughout the ‘90s. Promoting a physical location as a destination for young viewers of the network built a sense of community that was truly unique in the years before internet fandom largely would come to define how we socially engaged with the next decade of television.

The Adam Ruins Everything star is set to host the American version of the popular British game show The Crystal Maze.
Nickelodeon has found its Maze Master for its upcoming U.S. adaptation of the popular British game show The Crystal Maze. Comedian Adam Conover, best known for his TruTV series Adam Ruins Everything, is set to host the new incarnation of the family game show, which originally premiered three decades ago on the UK’s Channel 4 and remains popular to this day.
In The Crystal Maze, Conover will guide a family team through mental and physical challenges. The sets are immersive and each tied to a specific theme: Aztec, Eastern, Futuristic, and Industrial. If a family completes a challenge, they’re rewarded with a “time crystal” that grants them five seconds in the final zone called the Crystal Dome. Inside, they can grab cash prizes...

They were the public faces of Hollywood’s oldest restaurant to generations during a lifetime’s worth of service. Bartender Ruben Rueda and waiter Sergio Gonzalez passed earlier this year within weeks of each other, but now their personal lives and careers are memorialized in two new documentaries.
Rueda spent 52 years as a bartender at the Hollywood Boulevard restaurant, while Gonzalez’s long tenure was the first and only job he ever held.
Both documentaries were written, produced and directed by Tina Whatcott Echeverria and will have their world premiere on Monday, Oct. 14 at the ArcLight Cinema in Hollywood. The event is open to the public.
Both Retracing Ruben (20 minutes) and Gonzalez tribute Big Shot (25 minutes) will begin at 7 p.m. in Auditorium 8 at ArcLight Hollywood. The screening of both documentaries will be preceded by a Q & A session moderated by TV personality Marc Summers featuring Tina Whatcott Echeverria and her husband, Mark Echeverria, a fourth-generation co-owner, COO and proprietor of Musso & Frank.
Also on hand will be Leo Rueda, the son of Ruben Rueda and now a server and a bookkeeper at Musso & Frank; and Alex Gallardo, the son-in-law of Sergio Gonzalez and a server at Musso & Frank.
In addition to previewing the new documentaries, the Echeverrias will discuss the publication of a new coffee table book, The Musso & Frank Grill. The book is on sale at the restaurant and will be available at Amazon on Nov. 1 and select bookstores.
Tickets to the Oct. 14 screening are $45 per person and include a copy of the book.
“Ruben and Sergio were beloved members of the Musso family for decades and they will forever be missed,” said Tina Whatcott Echeverria, “I’m hoping these two documentaries will help preserve their memory, honor their contributions, and comfort their families.”
Musso & Frank marked its official centennial milestone September 27.

Nickelodeon is hoping viewers are still longing for 1990s nostalgia.
On Saturday, Nickelodeon will bring back “All That,” its popular sketch comedy from the mid-1990s that launched the careers of Kenan Thompson, Amanda Bynes and Nick Cannon, among others. Thompson is executive producing the new version alongside fellow original cast member Kel Mitchell.
Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins said the decision to bring back “All That” was done in part to reinvigorate the talent pipeline that he argues had dried up. “We needed to develop more talent, live-action talent,” Robbins told TheWrap. “The well was dry. ‘All That’ had always been this amazing pipeline of talent for Nickelodeon, not only in front of the camera but behind the camera.”
Robbins, who was named Nickelodeon president in October, would know. He co-created the original “All That,” which ran from 1994 to 2000 (it was retooled in 2002 and ran for another three seasons). And...

Mainstream cinema conveniently assumes that humanity will unify in the face of otherworldly calamities like an alien invasion or zombie apocalypse. By doing so, popcorn entertainment allows audiences to defiantly believe that they would also act nobly and courageous once the sky starts falling. Because who wants to watch a version of Independence Day where Will Smith’s heroic fighter pilot philosophically second guesses himself while murderous extra-terrestrials run rough shod over America? Possibly Bruno Dumont. The great French auteur feels no such allegiances to Hollywood’s delusional fantasies. Like Jacques Tati, he actually wants to subvert their traditional narrative constructs using brazen comedic timing and densely packed mise-en-scène. Look no further than CoinCoin and the Extra-Humans, which revels in the absurdity of our collective inertia. For 3+ hours it shows why glamorizing mankind’s response to global chaos remains an utterly ridiculous endeavor. Far more so than even the bumbling,...

“SmackDown Live” Superstar Kevin Owens will “Fight Anyone,” according to his WWE merch. At the upcoming pay-per-view “Money in the Bank,” he’ll battle WWE Champion Kofi Kingston, whom Owens turned on rather quickly after a short-lived alliance.
Once again a heel (the pro-wrestling term for a bad guy), K.O. tells TheWrap that wearing the white hat — and at times, a New Day unicorn antler — was probably a bit too short-lived for his liking.
“I wish I would have been able to stay on the other side of the fence a little longer, to be honest,” Owens told us ahead of Tuesday’s “SmackDown” episode. “I don’t think anybody’s really seen me as a babyface ever, or, like, the way that I envision myself being. I don’t think people have any idea what I can do on the other side. But, you know, what’s done is done.

Kofi Kingston may be WWE Champion, but the de facto leader of “SmackDown Live” tag team The New Day’s got a new physical challenge in front of him: Nickelodeon’s “Double Dare.” Unfortunately, Kofi is paired — as is often the case in the ring — with Xavier Woods.
Woods is a talented wrestler and avid video-gamer, but he obviously does not spend enough time flinging wrestler dolls at a child wearing Velcro bat wings. You know, as one does on during the Nick game show’s first-ever WWE Superstars Week.
On Wednesday’s episode, The New Day teams up with — and plays against — fans hoping to make it to the show’s obstacle course. In TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek, Big E’s squad appears to have the upper hand — and 200 points in the bank.

When Nickelodeon’s green slime first oozed its way over talent’s heads 40 years ago on the acquisition Canadian series “You Can’t Do That on Television,” there was no way of knowing the stuff would transcend series and generations of children — let alone launch a festival. But green goop was just the beginning of the network’s lasting story in the kids space thanks to a robust IP library, recognizable brand extensions and an innovative marketing strategy that’s changing the conversation about conventional ad venues.

With four decades of transformative kids’ programming from such series as “All That” to “Blue’s Clues” to “Rugrats” under its belt, Nickelodeon has been responsible for inspiring new generations of Hollywood creatives.
For comic actor Kenan Thompson, it’s easy to see how Nickelodeon’s “All That” became a training ground for his work on NBC’s late-night, much more adult sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live.”

A trending "Westworld" actress, a TV reunion, and the first look at the stars of Quentin Tarantino's new movie were just a few topics that had IMDb's editors buzzing this past week.
Dutch actress Katja Herbers, who plays Emily in science-fiction Western TV series "Westworld," ranked at No. 13 on IMDb's STARmeter for the week - the highest charting of her career. It followed a pivotal role in some crucial scenes of the Season 2 finale.
This week, Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson revealed they will be competing on Nickelodeon's "All New Double Dare," a reboot of a Gen-X kid classic for the millennial set. The reunion of the "Kenan & Kel" stars will mark a return to the network that launched their careers more than 20 years ago.
One of the coolest photos to hit the desks of IMDb's editors this week was the first shot from the set of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino's ninth feature film, which is set in 1969 Los Angeles.
