With the WGA strike officially over, the writers rooms are returning to normal in daytime.
Deadline has learned that union scribes are back in the room at ABC’s General Hospital and CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful. The soaps never stopped churning out scripts after the WGA hit the picket line in May. But instead of WGA writers, Gh, B&b and the others had to rely on financial core (fi-core) writers and other non-members to keep the drama going.
Fi-core scribes are those who resigned their WGA membership while benefiting from the guild’s contracts with the studios. Producers and executives also helped with the writing in some cases.
“The shows don’t stop,” Days of Our Lives head writer Ron Carlivati said in an interview from the picket lines earlier this summer. “They replaced us in 2007 when I worked at One Life to Live, and I can only...

Details about the next season of Saturday Night Live hint at the show returning after the writers and studios finalize agreements to end the strike. The NBC variety show cut its 48th season short by three episodes when the writers assembled on the picket line at the beginning of May, prompting an all-out stop for the comedy showcase with celebrity guests and live musical acts.
If all parties sign on the dotted line in the coming days, Saturday Night Live could return to NBC on October 7 or 14. The return requires a vote from the WGA. Still, with negotiations finally heading in a positive direction, the directive to return to work could be in full swing before long. According to reports, the WGA West Board and WGA East Council could vote on the new deal as early as Tuesday. Once the restraining order barring writers from working lifts, it’s back to business,...

ABC has decided to premiere “Dancing With the Stars” Season 32 as originally scheduled on Tuesday, the network announced Monday.
The debut of the show, which will air at 8 p.m. Et and simulcast live on Disney+ and be available Wednesday on Hulu, was put in doubt after “Veep” actor Matt Walsh — who’s also a member of the writers’ guild — rethought his involvement after learning it was being picketed by WGA.
A rep for Walsh said he will also be on the dance floor: “With the hopeful resolution and vote with the WGA, ‘Dancing With the Stars’ would no longer be a struck show, therefore all cast would be able to return. This includes WGA member Matt Walsh,” a statement shared with TheWrap on Monday read.
Last week, Walsh said, “I am taking a pause from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ until an agreement is made with the WGA.” He also...

SAG-AFTRA released a statement on Thursday reiterating that members who are participating on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” are not in violation of the rules of its ongoing TV/Theatrical strike and have the guild’s support to fulfill their contractual obligations.
While the upcoming season of “Dancing With the Stars” is not allowed to mention or use footage from the shows and films that its contestants have participated in, the show itself operates under the Network Code contract, which is separate from the TV/Film contract that SAG-AFTRA has been striking on since July 14.
“The majority of our members on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ had contractual obligations to the show prior to the strike. Many are under option agreements that require them to return to the show if the producer exercises their option, which the producer has done,” the guild’s statement read.

Exclusive: Channel 4 has asked third-party production companies to report “historical allegations” about Russell Brand after he was accused of raping and sexually assaulting women.
In an email seen by Deadline, Chief Content Officer Ian Katz said Channel 4 wanted to hear from anyone impacted by Brand, urging producers to “bring to our attention any historical allegations or concerns.”
The call for evidence follows The Times, Sunday Times, and Channel 4 reporting allegations that Brand sexually assaulted four women at the height of his fame. Brand vehemently denies the claims and has said all of his relationships were consensual.
Katz said he was “appalled” by the accusations against Brand, saying that the Dispatches investigation — which he ultimately commissioned — paints an “ugly picture” that means Channel 4 must “redouble our commitment to ensuring safe working conditions for all those in our industry.”

New Delhi, Aug 3 (Ians) The contestants of ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi 13’ are set to showcase their courage in the upcoming ‘Relay Week’. Host Rohit Shetty will select the first two contestants, and just like a relay game, these chosen ones will perform a stunt and get a chance to nominate their fellow contestants to perform the next stunt.
As the course of nominating co-contestants continues, two teams will be created and three khiladis will be left unnominated. One among them is Aishwarya Sharma, who has not been lucky in a few stunts and has lost credibility. In the eerie Code Red room, these un-nominated contestants must make a crucial decision.
They must predict whether their fellow contestants will pick their names to be part of the nerve-wracking relay stunts or not. Given that she performed poorly in the preceding stunts, a demoralised Aishwarya is sure that she won’t be nominated.

The ongoing writers’ strike has now impacted Port Charles: Deadline has confirmed that temporary writers have been hired by General Hospital to keep the daytime drama in production.
News of the change went viral Tuesday after Shannon Peace, a Gh writer, posted to her private account on Instagram that “scab writers” are now penning for the soap exclusively. “Daytime writers face a unique conflict during strikes,” she wrote. “We hate to see our characters and storylines handed over to ‘writers’ who cross the picket line. But we’re also keenly aware that stopping production could spell the demise of soap operas.”
Her post was picked up on social media by actors like Bradley Whitford and Lisa Ann Walter, a longtime fan of daytime dramas who wanted to call out “scab writers putting the writers of these beloved soaps out of work.”
A spokeswoman for the ABC show declined comment.

Exclusive: Brit TV chef James Martin is at the center of a bullying storm after he was accused of intimidating his crew on multiple occasions.
Deadline can reveal that ITV has told Martin to change his behavior after the UK’s biggest commercial broadcaster received a complaint in May about his conduct from some of the presenter’s closest colleagues.
Concerns were raised about Martin’s treatment of crew during recent filming on James Martin’s Spanish Adventure, the latest in a long line of travel cooking shows the chef has fronted for ITV over his six-year spell with the broadcaster.
Deadline understands that the complaint is the second time ITV has been made aware of misgivings about Martin’s conduct following a separate incident in 2018 when he launched a foul-mouthed tirade against staff after a drain was blocked at his home during the production of James Martin’s Saturday Morning.

Two time Grammy-nominated band Code Orange announce today their new album The Above, releasing September 29th via Blue Grape Music!
The first album since their critically acclaimed 2020 Underneath, is self-produced by Jami Morgan and Eric “Shade” Balderose with engineering by Steve Albini.
Accompanying the album announcement, the single and music video for the track “Take Shape” which features guest vocals from Billy Corgan is a throwback to when music videos were at peak importance, combining nostalgia with a modern twist, notes the release.
Inspired by an era where film was at its peak quality, but beginning to give way to the digital era “Take Shape” picks up where “Grooming My Replacement” left off. The protagonist, played by Morgan, escapes his captives, arriving in a technicolor, ‘Truman Show’-esque stage play of reality. Incredible cinematography brings the video through a number of sets and stages arriving at a ‘Vanilla Sky’-inspired roof scene.

Turkey has ordered the arrest of one of its top pop singers for allegedly insulting the country’s Islamic high schools system, which was attended by president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Singer, songwriter and dancer Gulsen, 46, who is viewed by many as the Turkish Madonna, became the subject of an arrest order by an Istanbul court on Thursday 25 August, after a video clip of a comment she made about a band or crew member during a performance in April went viral on social media.
She was reportedly remanded to custody pending further investigation on a charge of "inciting people to hatred and hostility”, for saying of the band member: “He attended the Imam Hatip schools. That’s where the perversion comes from.”
Erdogan attended a religiously oriented Imam Hatip school, as did many of his associates and pillars of the country’s powerful business elite.

San Francisco, Aug 23 (Ians) Non-profit organisation Black Girls Code has sued its founder Kimberly Bryant, accusing her of “unlawful hijacking” of its websites.
Bryant was sacked as a board member and CEO earlier this month after an intense period of allegations and legal and corporate battle, reports TechCrunch.
The complaint, filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California alleged that Bryant “took a series of inappropriate actions following her termination, including the unlawful hijacking of the Bgc website and redirecting site visitors to her own website, which makes several false and misleading statements.”
Black Girls Code alleged that its domains — including blackgirlscode.com, blackgirlscode.org, blackgirlscode.site and blackgirlscode.net — all now redirect to another website named saveblackgirlscode.com.
“That website offers a memo with the details of Bryant’s aforementioned federal lawsuit, including her lawyer’s contact information,” the complaint said.
