Clownorcist
shawnblackman12 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A girl with a fear of clowns starts getting nightmares of a clown being in the house. The clown kills her dog and leaves a balloon with a date and time on it. She finds out it wasn't a dream and the date on the balloon is when she is going to die. She has two days to figure stuff out.

This was a pretty crappy flick. The picture and sound was impressive but that was it. For one the clown wasn't a ghost but in fact a demonic clown. Clownorcist would've been more fitting . The clown wasn't scary looking at all and he moved like a gorilla zombie. If you can get past this you'll have to deal with the story not making much sense. She knows what time she's going to die but instead she keeps worrying about getting killed all the time. You keep yelling at the screen "you got one more day he's not going to kill you yet?" and the worst is we are supposed to be in suspense that she might die.

The violence is tame but there is a ton of jump scares and just as many clichés. Maybe it should've been Clichetergeist or sorry Clicheorcist. Maybe just forget about this one altogether that is obviously trying to jump on the "It" train similar to Circus Kane that just came out.

4 balloons filled with dog guts out of 10.

Clowntergeist: More Ronald McDonald than Pennywise
Platypuschow22 October 2017
Cashing in on the renewed popularity of killer clowns Clowntergeist tells the story of a demonic clown who kindly provides you with a red (Shocker) balloon with the date/time he's going to kill you on.

No poltergeists here, just a really dreadful clown (Not even the one on the poster) who grunts like an animal and has variable supernatural rules.

The cast are quite competent but don't have much to work with and the finale twist is laughable. Would have worked better as a horror comedy.

Want a decent clown horror? Watch Clown House (1989)

The Good:

Predictable but decent opening "Twist"

Some quite original ideas

The Bad:

Crap antagonist

Poor twist

Lore makes little sense/isn't explained

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

The redneck weapon of choice is the crossbow

This Is Really a Very Bad Movie
claudio_carvalho12 August 2020
Sometimes we read a review in IMDb and find it unfair and believe we may like the film. However, this is not the case of "Clowntergeist", one of the worst low-budget movies ever made. The screenplay is illogical and the direction is terrible. The performances, cinematography, special effects, locations, music score, everything is awful. In the end, "Clowntergeist" is really a very bad movie and not worthwhile watching. Only the art on the DVD cover released in Brasil by Vynix distributor is worthwhile, attracting the attention of fans of horror genre. My vote is two.

Just a Mockbuster
lordkrythic12 September 2017
Warning, this review is more of a rant.

This movie is clearly a Mockbuster that is coinciding with the release of the new Stephen King It movie. Watching the trailer itself plainly displays the directors lack of creativity and originality, and like many wannabe directors/writers, he chooses instead to piggyback off of higher budget movies. This makes the director/creators, by it's very definition, a parasite. And quite honestly, I don't understand the logic. You want to be a director/writer and make movies, but you can't think of and create your own content? Clearly, this movie serves more along the lines as a cry for help than anything else. This entire situation would be different if the movie served as a sort of parody of the "It" franchise, but it's clear that it doesn't; the movie tries to take itself very seriously, thus infringing on copyright and intellectual property.

I rated this movie a 1/10, and I highly suggest that if you appreciate movies and respect the art that they inherently stand for, that you also do the same.

How to cure one's fear of clowns
TheLittleSongbird22 March 2018
Killer clown films are not done quite as often as ones centred around sharks and zombies. Those that do exist are wildly variable, for every 2017 film version of 'IT' there is also 'Killjoy'. When featured clowns are scary, they are the stuff of nightmares, a prime example being Tim Curry's Pennywise.

Whether 'Clowntergeist' is a parody or rip-off of Stephen King's 'IT' is irrelevant and even if it was (it certainly isn't blatant but a few elements are reasonably similar) that is the least of its problems. Likewise with how misleading it is in its title and advertising, with this clown being far from ghostly. Demon/killer clown films don't get much worse than 'Clowntergeist', don't mind that it was low budget but do mind if it looked as though it didn't even try. The latter seemed to be the case with 'Clowntergeist'.

Anybody's fear of clowns will not stay let alone increase, because it is so un-scary and how laughable any fears are likely to be cured. Ribcage is as non-intimidating, non-frightening as one can get for a villainous clown. What is actually more scary is how lazy and unintentionally goofy he is, Killjoy is scarier and he is not terrifying at all. Instead Ribcage doesn't convince at all as a demon/killer clown and if he was meant to be a ghost clown the film failed catastrophically on that count, all he is is a quite annoying Eric Corbin lumbering and wheezing around in a cheap clown suit and make-up (or that's what it seemed).

'Clowntergeist' completely lacks tension, suspense, terror or thrills. Instead it is very dull, unintentionally funny, cheap and predictable. There is nothing surprising or scary in sight, what was meant to be scary was obvious well in advance and hampered even further by the annoying sound effects and over-bearing music that try too hard to make one feel it should be creepy. It completely takes away the surprises and suspense too as a result, as do the very cheap (sloppily edited, drab and amateurishly shot) production values.

Pacing drags badly and the story is far too dragged out and padded to seemingly hide that the story is far too thin, very thin paper is thicker in comparison. The dialogue is stilted and filled with cheese to fill a large cheeseburger when it's comprehensible. The sound and music are far too loud and obvious.

No characters to care for or be interested in either. They are all bland and obnoxious, often given very little to do and with few logical or un-dumb thoughts. The direction has no competence and the acting is weak all round at best, especially from Corbin.

Overall, a terrible film that will do nothing to make one even more scared of clowns. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Clowntergeist is a clownsnoozefest
Gunnar_R_Ingibjargarson28 February 2018
A Young girl who's dangerously afraid of clowns get's her worst nightmare to reality when a clown serial killer comes to town. Clowntergeist is one of the worst of 2017, with some of the worst acting I've seen in some time and a horrible script and direction.

mistakes
dflorcyk1 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
All in all , for what it is , a pretty good movie. However, there were a number of very obvious mistakes in continuity. Really too many to point out but the funniest one was when Emma was driving alone and her car lights went out and she had to spend the night on the side of the road, she was driving a blue Toyota and when she woke up in the morning the car magically transformed into a red Toyota. Also, you'll notice that she was driving on the wrong side of the road, not only that , she was on the correct side of the road when she went to pull over to the shoulder, even started turning the wheel to the right and yet somehow ended up on the left side of the road on the shoulder. There are numerous other mistakes, my question to those who worked to edit the film is why was there seemingly no one employed to deal with continuity. Lack of continuity in a film , in my opinion, really detracts from it's credibility. Could have been much better guys.

Just yell "Stranger Danger!"
nogodnomasters15 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
An unexplained "paranormal circus clown" named Ribcage is killing people and their little dog too. Emma (Brittany Belland) who is afraid of clowns is next up because she is afraid of clowns. We get some explanation about the demonic clown near the end, but begs more questions than answers.

The nuts and bolts were fairly decent. The clown was big and scary. The girls did a decent job acting. Mood was set with neon lights and occasional fog...inside the store. The main problem was creating a story to hold one's interest other than there is a clown on the loose with 99 red balloons.Maybe he could sneak up on one of the girls in the shower or better yet, both girls in the shower...sure it's been done, but for some reason it never grows old.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

The beginning was balevable but after that happens the movie went to poop it went down 2 different girls at almost the same time it took 30 years for 1 person to kill the clown that just makes it a super uninteresting story and would never watch it again

Lol how could an evil clown movie be this bad?!!
Foreverisacastironmess12325 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Oh my heavens, what a bad yawn-inducing mess, where do I begin? Well it was overall just plain boring, the plot was pretty much totally incomprehensible, especially at the end, it all took itself way too seriously with not a hint of dark humour, and I really don't think I've ever seen a lamer evil movie clown in my life! The guy wasn't creepy at all, he was just laughable, and not in the traditional sense. He crawled around like a wheezing dog and didn't do anything 'clowny', like in the movie Stitches, and I was frankly embarrassed for that actor. And he was most definitely not a "Clowntergeist", because he wasn't a ghost, he was just a regular old ooga- booga clown in a crummy getup that jumped out at the camera at regular intervals who was demonically possessed for reasons, so you can add false advertising to the annoyances! I really hope we don't get a slew of cheap evil clown crossover movies just like this because of the popularity of the new IT movie or else the notion of the horror clown may go the way of the zombie and the shark, done to death! Awful waste of time, the only mildly good part that was actually a bit scary was the short film done by the same director that was shoehorned in as a sort of prologue at the beginning! To each their own but I'd say to just plain avoid this rotten apple of a horror movie like a snotty clown rainbow hanky flying right at your face!!! :P x

Not afraid of clowns? Well, you won't be after this movie either...
paul_haakonsen14 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
While I was initially drawn to the movie because of the DVD cover, then the instant I picked it up, read the synopsis and saw who was in it, I knew that this was going to be fighting every odds to become somewhat of even close to being just a somewhat enjoyable movie.

Odd, how something like that still didn't discourage me from actually going home and putting on the movie and sit down and watch it. Perhaps it was that morbid sense of dark humor in the back of the mind that goes "come on, it could be a fun enough movie. Perhaps it will be so bad that it is actually hilarious to watch!"... But that is not what "Clowntergeist" turned out to be.

"Clowntergeist" was essentially a very, very pointless story, with a even more so laughable plot. The movie also had a gallery of characters you don't care about in any sense.

The clown, which should serve as the threatening and memorable killer clown, was downright ridiculous and nowhere near scary.

And it didn't help out in the least that the story was so slow at progressing, that it felt like it almost stands still utterly throughout the entire course of the movie.

No, for all that is unholy. Stay well clear of "Clowntergeist". Some of us suffered through it so you don't have to.

Ignore the reviews by mental midgets.
13Funbags8 October 2017
This is a high quality production with some decent acting. Unfortunately the dialogue is very boring. There are a lot of heart to heart conversations that do nothing for the movie. There's also no nudity and very little gore. The over all story was average for a horror flick. I liked the clown even though it appears to have lots of super powers and is able to live through anything. They completely set it up for a sequel and I could live without that.

SMDH...I suffer so you don't have to
Fox_Prime24 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Man...I don't even know where to start with this steaming...pile...garbage heap of a movie. Guess I'll just start from the top. Clowntergeist... one would guess this is a play on the word poltergeist, which we all know intels paranormal, ghosts, hauntings etc. Well not this film maker, there isn't a ghost within 100 miles of this movie. Someone needs to go back to horror/scary movie definitions 101 before taking a stab at a movie like this again...pun intended.

Next, well they got the clown part right, there is a "killer" clown. Supposedly he's a demonic killer clown? Don't worry, you'll never find out how because the movie never tells you! I know, top notch writing right? The clown's name is ribcage and I can only guess why is because the only thing that will be hurting after you first see him is your ribcage from laughing so hard. This is by far, the most unscary, unintimidating, joke of a demon clown I've ever seen. He makes noises like some kind of wild animal, not to mention he moves around like one too, and bends and arches his body but not in the possessed scary way, just a silly laughable way.

The story is terrible. I've driven down dirt roads with less holes in them than this movie. Nothing connects, nothing is explained, it's like a 2 year old is telling you the story. It's mind numbing. Not to mention the abysmal cast and their "acting" doesn't improve anything in any way shape or form. It's just another nail in this movie's coffin.

Just steer clear of this one folks, in fact, if you have a fear of clowns, you may try watching this and see if it cures your phobia, at least then this movie would have some beneficial value to it.

Points for atmosphere and tension
Coventry12 June 2021
Due to the extremely low rating, the almost exclusively negative user comments, and the simple fact that a film can carry an utterly ludicrous title such as "Clowntergeist", my expectations for this cheap piece of clown-horror were set low. But hey, I reckon the best way to approach a film like this is without any expectations whatsoever, because now I can say I was pleasantly surprised. The plot is obviously pure and preposterous nonsense, but at least writer/director Aaron Mirtes clearly watched a lot of horror classics and knows a thing or two about generating suspense. "Clowntergeist" contains a handful of moments that are atmospheric, intense and very well built up. The sequences with the car full of balloons is quite good, for instance, and also the part where a character named Jonah gets attacked in his house is effectively suspenseful. The clown itself, oddly named Ribcage which is a horrendous name even for a killer clown, is menacing but not used well. The cute Brittany Belland gives a more than decent performance as the teen heroine with a phobia for clowns. I just read via the site that she took her own life shortly after the release of this film. She was only 28 years old; - most unfortunate.

darksyde-635089 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
If you get a movie called "Clowntergeist" and can tell by the cover alone thst its going to be a ripoff of "IT", either A. Don't get it B. Din complain. With a movie called "Clowntergeidt" you shouldn't be expecting an original idea, or for the actors to give an Oscar winning performance. Is this a B movie? Yes. But its a lot better than a lot of B movies out there. In for one, enjoyed this.

If you think its a IT mockup you,re wrong, it,s not!

Don,t expect a fantastic story, it,s a B movie and the story works far better then most of such films.... After all, a few surprises and some engaged acting and suprises at the end Take it for what it is and it,s fine for that.

I am sorry for the loss of the leadactress,....rip!

Worst movie I saw in my entire life
laurasabama15 December 2021
I cannot make this up when I say I had a headache when the movie was over. It was so painfully stupid and terribly done, the scariest thing in the whole thing were the random jumpscares. It's not a good horror movie if the only thing I'm afraid of are sudden screams and faces coming onto the screen.

The characters were laughable at and I can't even say this was a good bad movie. It was just bad.

Warning: Spoilers
Where to start?

  • Poor story
  • Poor protagonist
  • Unconvincing storytelling
  • Cheap effects
  • Cardboard characters
  • Crap twist

Not much good to say about this film aside from the eye candy and gore which sadly doesn't save it. However I ironically did like the ending which wasn't sexist.

Love bad clown movies, but...
lindalozar14 April 2020
I enjoy evil clown movies. Funny, scary, both. They're all fun, but not so much this one. At 80 minutes not very long, but for this script way too long. Normally the climax comes in about 10 -15 minutes from the end. Sometimes a movie will have multiple endings, one right after the other, literally (see EVENT HORIZON). This one, in the last 20 min had several points where the movie could end & everyone would have been happy. The end felt more like several different endings were shot, movie too short, so put them all together. Not a very satisfactory ending, would have been better putting effort into early part of the movie. No idea why the clown attacks the 2 girls. Is the clown really a great ape? No idea. If you want noise in the background, not too bad of a movie. If you want to watch & want something not too scary, go with KILLJOY or some other clown.
