Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett were among the key creatives behind Batman: The Animated Series. The 90s animated series was a major hit and set the foundation for several other DC projects that eventually took the shape of the fan-favorite Dcau. Since then, the duo has continued working on DC properties, with and without each other.
A still from Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman
In 2003, Burnett worked on the animated film Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman without the involvement of Timm. Burnett chose to recast the role of Penguin in the film with a different voice actor from the previous Dcau installments made under him and Timm. Here is how Timm felt about the recasting as he shared his true thoughts on the matter.

Die Hard moviegoers, especially superhero movie fans, inherently possess a dire desire to own the props of movies they love. A Marvel comic book legend was no exception, as he revealed his weirdest possession from MCU rival DC’s prop from a Superman classic.
Christopher Reeve in Superman (1978)
Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent appeared in the first Superman movie in 1978, and the movie marked the beginning of the dawn of comic book movies. Marvel comic book writer Mark Millar revealed his wild fascination over his favorite superhero character, Superman, as he has some weird props from the movie in his collection.

James Gunn is launching the new DC Universe with a brand-new Superman (not to mention a new Supergirl), which puts the final nail in the coffin of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel… or does it? Fans are eager to find a way for Henry Cavill to return to the role and Argylle director Matthew Vaughn wonders if Superman: Red Son might be the perfect opportunity.
While speaking on BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, Matthew Vaughn praised Superman: Red Son, the Elseworlds mini-series written by Mark Millar. “I thought Red Son was one of the cleverest comics I’d ever read, and the current world we’re living in, it’s certainly become a lot more relevant because ignorance causes more issues, and I think the more we learn about Russia and the Russian history,” Vaughn said, before wondering what it would be like if Henry Cavill reprised his role for the project.

During the early 90s, DC Comics launched the Elseworlds publication, along with trademarking the very word itself, and the storylines became extremely popular due to their interesting proposition of testing beloved characters of the franchise in varied settings, contexts, and tropes. Later, the stories were incorporated into the larger DC multiverse, but the distinctively unique takes were engaging enough as standalone stories to begin with. In recent years, as part of DC animated movie adaptations, we have seen some of these in Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, The Doom That Came To Gotham and Superman: Red Son, and they arguably fare better than the prime continuity animated universe.
Taking a page from that book, the recently released DC animated interconnected universe continuity, aka Tomorrowverse adaptation Justice League: Warworld, offers a chance to explore the Elseworlds storyline in the mainstream universe. Warworld is a setting of importance in DC lore, a planet-like...

Based on a 2001 three-issue comic book miniseries written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Richard Pace, Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham is an alternate-world tale that introduced an alternate version of Bruce Wayne and the residents of Gotham to Lovecraftian horrors. “Jupiter’s Legacy” has quietly emerged one of the most addictive shows of 2021. The Netflix series about children of superheroes has everything you want in a bingeworthy series. It marks the first collaboration between Netflix and Mark Millar since the streamer acquired Millarworld comics in 2019, and they have plenty more in the pipeline.
For those unfamiliar, Millar is one of the most influential comic book writers of the last half century. In addition to creating “Jupiter’s Legacy,” he blazed trails for independent artists by writing series like “Kick-Ass” and distributing them on his own. He also found time to collaborate with Marvel and DC, penning some of the most influential storylines for their flagship characters.

Superheroes have a long history. After flying onto the scene more than eight decades ago, led by Superman, along with fellow octogenarians Batman, Wonder Woman, and Captain America, the pantheon of capes-and-tights characters has expanded to include countless more. And as legendary creators made their mark across decades, the origins and powers of these icons transformed almost as frequently as their costumes.
Meanwhile, the superhero team The Union, from the comic book saga Jupiter’s Legacy, have 90 years of consistent fictional history, with a singular overarching story, envisioned by one man: Mark Millar.
After discovering both Superman and Spider-Man comics the same day, at the age of four in Scotland (where he grew up), the now 51-year-old writer would go on to make a significant impact on the superpowered set. But he wanted his own pantheon.

Exclusive: “What’s wonderful about TV shows, we can go so deep and flesh out so much more with meat on the backbone,” exclaims Mark Millar of the adaption of his Jupiter’s Legacy comics to a Netflix series. “You know, characters can have a few pages that can take up an hour’s television time and I love that,” the executive producer adds. “I love the fact we were able to make something so crazy.”
Shifting from the 1930s to the present day and over the generations literally and figuratively, the super powered Jupiter’s Legacy is the first of a series of projects that Millar and the streamer have been planning since Netflix bought the Superman: Red Son author’s Millarworld imprint a few years ago.

The years spent by Bruce Wayne training to become a crimefighter are some of the most fascinating in the Batman mythos, and have been explored in multiple ways across various mediums. A new DC animated feature, Batman: Soul of the Dragon now offers the intriguing prospect of a 1970s-set story wherein a young Bruce embarks on the path to martial arts mastery. We recently received the trailer and first clip from the film, and now have an introduction to Richard Dragon, one of the main characters from the Bruce Timm-produced movie.
In the video, which you can catch above, voice actor Mark Dacascos describes how we meet Dragon in the 1970s as a super spy who trained with Bruce alongside master O-Sensei. We then see Dragon in training, and being pointed out by O-Sensei to Bruce, foreshadowing the partnership between the two depicted in the recent trailer. At this point,...

In his new indie film “Archenemy,” Joe Manganiello steps into the shoes of a man who claims he was a superhero — but his character, Max Fist, isn’t the sort of guy who’d make Superman proud.
Instead, he’s an alcoholic, drug-addicted homeless man who claims he’s been stripped of his powers after being hurdled through time and space by his titular archenemy, Cleo (Amy Seimetz). It’s a full deconstruction of the superhero genre, complete with a plucky kid reporter (Skylan Brooks) — except, in a modern twist, he’s instead an aspiring social media influencer — and his sister (Zolee Griggs), who finds herself in over her head in her dealings with the local crime boss (Glenn Howerton).
Max starts to bond with the kids after Brooks’ character starts documenting him for clout, but it becomes quickly clear, as Max rambles drunkenly on about different dimensions and planets in exchange for more booze,...

900 numbers for polling purposes, charging users for each call placed, was a 1980s fad that seemed perfect to employ in comic books for some sort of stunt. Editor Denny O’Neil and DC’s Marketing team, led by Bruce Bristow, conceived of the stunt and Jim Starlin wrote the four-part “Death in the Family” storyline to accommodate the stunt. Jason Todd, the second Robin, never was accepted by fans, either under his father, writer Gerry Conway or the post-Crisis writers Max Allan Collins and Jim Starlin. Callers got to say he would live or die.
It went on to become a media sensation, and a closer than expected vote. It also brought down the wrath of Warner Bros who was unaware of the event and the press attention because, back then, DC was a pimple on the conglomerate’s butt and no one considered telling them.

So how does this whole crossover between DC’s TV and film world work?
Greg Berlanti’s Arrowverse took the whole notion of superhero crossovers to another level earlier this year when TV’s Flash (Grant Gustin) met film Flash (Ezra Miller) during the Arrow hour of the five-part event that also spanned Supergirl, Batwoman, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. It was a monumental moment, for prior to that, DC always kept their film and TV universes completely separate, never would they intertwine.
But as awesome as that was for fans, don’t expect any more crossovers like that, at least in the immediate future.
“In terms of what our next crossover event will be next year, I think truly because of Covid right now and the pandemic, our aspirations aren’t quite as large,” The Flash co-creator Berlanti. “We’d just like to start shooting again.”

Unlike the floundering cinematic universe of DC Comics, the animated department has managed to create stellar adaptations of fan-favorite properties time and again. Sure, not all of them are amazing, but even the worst ones manage to have some redeeming qualities, even if that’s just the gorgeous art style. And now, to take things one step further, Batman: Death in the Family will mark Warner Bros. Animation’s first stab at interactive storytelling.
The trailer, which was released today, is a re-imagining of a story arc from the late ‘80s called Batman: A Death in the Family. In it, Batman and Robin’s relationship experiences some serious friction, which eventually leads to Jason Todd’s iteration of the Boy Wonder running away from home. The story follows Todd’s search for his biological mother and ends with the Joker getting involved with a plan that leads to Todd and his mother’s deaths.

He’s one of Batman’s biggest foes, but Mr. Freeze hasn’t been seen on the big screen since 1998’s Batman & Robin. It seems Arnold Schwarzenegger’s campy portrayal of the sub-zero supervillain has cast a shadow over the character, then, but fans are hoping that they’ll finally get a new cinematic version of Victor Fries in the Dceu in the near future. Most likely opposite Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight in The Batman movies.
But who could play the cold-hearted criminal? The spread of the coronavirus has seen numerous studios trying to protect their investments by shifting around release dates for some of this year’s biggest films, with the latest James Bond movie No Time to Die now delayed until November and the Mouse House indefinitely delaying the release of Mulan over in China. As the world continues to panic about the virus and the risk it poses, Hollywood is keen to protect their properties and ensure that they don’t lose any of their potential earnings.
With no end in sight for the epidemic, it seems that the scare has now spread to television as well, with several high profile shows having been forced to halt production in recent weeks. As the Covid-19 coronavirus continues spreading rather rapidly across the globe, one company is seeing an unexpected bump in the sales of their snack cakes.
Hostess Brands CEO Andy Callahan has stated that there’s been a notable increase in the sales of their ever-popular Twinkies and Ding Dongs. Both snacks are known for their unusually long shelf lives, something sure to be fueling many consumers to stock up on the tasty treats in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic.
Speaking to Yahoo Finance, Callahan stated:
We are benefiting likely in the short-term due to traffic. That’s the great thing about Hostess, we are there to celebrate things. We are there to comfort things. So we are seeing a slight uptick in traffic. It’s too early to tell, a lot of our point of sale data lags.

Take a look at an extended fight between 'Batman' and 'Superman', from the animated feature "Superman: Red Son", based on the DC Comics mini-series, now available on Blu-ray and DVD, imagining baby 'Kal-El', the future 'Superman', crashlanding in the Russian 'Soviet Union' instead of Kansas, USA:

The coronavirus’ effects are quickly being felt within the entertainment industry, whether through box office damage or indirectly boosting Netflix’s audiences. Covid-19 is even beginning to affect the writing process for upcoming shows like The Falcon and the Winter Solder. The latest consequence of the virus is the New York City premiere of DC’s animated Superman: Red Son movie, with Warner Bros. deciding to cancel the public launch of the picture.
Although Red Son is available to purchase digitally, and had its world premiere in La, WB had been planning to promote the Blu-ray release with a red carpet event in New York on March 16th. Particular fears arose over red carpet crowds and limited seating worsening the risk of large groups of people being in close proximity to one another. In this sense, it’s likely that the Red Son cancellation will be one of many as the coronavirus continues to spread.

IGN has revealed the first trailer for the next DC Animated Original feature film, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. A sequel to 2017’s popular Justice League Dark movie was announced last summer, with the same cast returning, but this teaser promises that Apokolips War is actually much bigger than that. Not only is it a follow-up to Jld, but it also brings the whole Justice League together and is something of a crossover of multiple recent DC animated efforts.
As you can see up above, Superman and John Constantine, the two leaders of the superhero teams coming together to save the world and defeat Darkseid, are the protagonists of the piece. Jerry O’Connell, meanwhile, is reprising the Man of Steel, a role he first played in the Death of Superman/Reign of the Superman two-part movie event across 2018 and 2019. His real-life partner, Rebecca Romijn, is also back as Lois Lane from those films.

Superman: Red Son is one of the most iconic Elseworlds stories ever created, and now it’s been adapted for the screen as the next DC animated movie to come from Warner Bros. Animation. Forget everything you know about America’s greatest superhero though as in this alternate universe, he’s no longer an American.
Based on the 2003 limited comic book series by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson and Killian Plunkett, Superman: Red Son explores what would happen if Kal-El’s Kryptonian pod hadn’t crashed into Smallville, Kansas but a farm in the Ukraine instead. The result is that Superman’s raised by Josef Stalin and becomes a key weapon during the height of the Cold War. The knock-on effect is that the DC universe changes around him, with different versions of the likes of Batman and Green Lantern turning up.

Since we’re in a long wait between live-action Wonder Woman movies, it makes sense for Warner Animation to fill the gap. I just wish they filled it with something stronger than the just-released Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. The story is mostly about Diana and Vanessa Kapatelis with a hideous cabal of rogues attempting to plunder the technology of Themyscira.
It looks like it should fit in the animated continuity but it doesn’t really. We’re treated to a lengthy pre-credit sequence that recaps her origin and rushes things so quickly, that you blink and we’ve gone from Diana (Rosario Dawson) rescuing Steve Trevor (Jeffrey Donovan) to her leaving paradise for Man’s World and suddenly is allied with Etta Candy (Adrienne C. Moore) as they go to hang out with Dr. Julia Kapatelis (Nia Vandalos).

As 2019 begins winding down, the last entry into the line of DC Universe animated films to be released during this calendar year arrives in the form of Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. For those keeping track, the Amazon Warrior has appeared in many animated team-up flicks in this decade alone, but it’s worth pointing out how this is her first solo outing since 2009’s Wonder Woman. Much like that standalone, this direct-to-video gem is a triumph, and I hope it doesn’t take Warner Bros. long to green light a sequel.
Before I delve further into discussing the specifics of this picture, I can’t help thinking it was originally intended to coincide with Wonder Woman 1984‘s theatrical release. In fact, I’d previously wondered if Bloodlines would be delayed into mid-2020 in order to line up with the Gal Gadot-led feature since it’d been pushed. Well, that didn’t happen,...

It’s probably safe to say that most modern readers of Batman comics have heard one man’s voice in their head when sitting down to enjoy the Caped Crusader’s adventures on the printed page – and that’s Kevin Conroy’s. Now that Batman: Gotham by Gaslight has opened the door for various other Elseworlds tales to be adapted as animated films, Superman: Red Son will be the first to follow in its footsteps. To be quite honest, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise because the limited series written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Dave Johnson has long remained one of the most popular in the line, not to mention DC fans demanding this become a reality for years.
To briefly sum up what that story entailed for those unfamiliar, what you need to know going into your first viewing of the animated flick is that it explored that possibility of baby Kal-El’s rocket landing in Soviet Russia instead of in Smallville, Kansas. While the show has been canceled, the showrunner has revealed what the plans for Krypton season 3 would have looked like.
This article contains major Krypton season 2 spoilers.
Syfy detonated Krypton far too early, canceling the fan favorite Superman prequel just two days after it aired the season two finale. That finale was far from definitive, however, and left the show with some massive cliffhangers that may not ever get resolved. The first involved Lobo teaming up with Seg-El, in the most unlikely cosmic buddy scenario you can think of in a show that has been positively packed with them. And while news of Krypton's cancellation also came with word that Syfy was also passing on the Lobo spinoff, Krypton showrunner Cam Welsh promised that show might not be dead after all. So maybe we'll see the further adventures of "Siegel" and Lobo on another network.
But what about those other two cliffhangers?...

Once we’re ready to put 2019 behind us, I’m confident that we’ll be able to say this year was a great time for DC animation. In my view, Reign of the Supermen, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five and Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were each impressive to varying degrees, with Batman: Hush dazzling audiences most recently.
If those weren’t enough, the talented folks behind these flicks have one more ace up their sleeve, that being Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. For those not up to speed, they should know this’ll be an original tale developed for the direct-to-video market, as opposed to an adaptation of any specific comic book. Furthermore, it’ll indeed take place within the New 52-inspired continuity begun by Justice League: War – only it’s set earlier on the timeline.
Before now, there were only unconfirmed reports regarding when Bloodlines will arrive on...

DC's animated movie adaptation of Superman: Red Son is almost here. Here's everything you need to know...
Superman: Red Son is the next iconic DC Comics story to get the animated feature treatment, and it's coming very, very soon!
Indeed, the 2003 comic miniseries from Mark Millar, Dave Johnson, and Killian Plunkett, which might just be the best known Elseworlds tale ever, is set land its animated movie in February, 2020.
The original story imagines a world where baby Kal-El's ship crashed in Ukraine instead of Kansas, and then Superman was raised as a Soviet superweapon. It features some of the sharpest Elseworlds design work ever done, adapting the entire Justice League into brutalist Soviet art styles. And it's one of those rare Millar books where the heart is bigger than the shock value of the story.

Henry Cavill returning to the role of Superman has looked less and less likely over the past year, so DC fans have been preparing themselves for a new Man of Steel to be introduced at some point. And if our info’s correct, we might now have confirmation that this is indeed the plan and we may also know how Warner Bros. will go about doing it.
We Got This Covered has been told that the studio is actively working on rebooting Superman in the Dceu. The upcoming Supergirl movie will apparently clean the slate when it comes to the Kryptonian mythos in the franchise. While it’s not expected to feature Kara Zor-El’s cousin, we’ve heard that it will “lay the seeds” for a new Last Son of Krypton to emerge later down the line.
