‘After the Party’ in the U.K.
Channel 4 has acquired U.K. rights to the acclaimed New Zealand drama “After the Party” from Lingo Pictures.
The six-part series, co-created by and starring Robyn Malcolm (“Black Bird”), follows Penny Wilding, a mother, teacher and environmental activist, whose life imploded five years earlier after she accused her husband Phil, played by Peter Mullan, of a sex crime and nobody believed her.
When Penny’s now ex-husband returns to town, her daughter pressures her to let go of her accusations and move on. As her old furies rise to the surface, Penny must decide what’s more important – the truth or rebuilding her relationships with the people around her.
Co-created by Dianne Taylor, “After the Party” was produced by Australia’s Lingo Pictures and Luminous Beast in New Zealand as an original commission for New Zealand’s Tvnz in association with and distributed by ITV Studios.

2023 has already given us series 15’s perfect line-up – a gem of a season with Jenny Eclair’s endless joy, Kiell Smith-Bynoe’s cheeky competitiveness, Mae Martin’s cool smarts, Frankie Boyle’s affable bemusement and Ivo Graham’s adorable self-loathing keeping us laughing all the way through to summer.
And there’s not long to wait now until series 16 arrives. The new run of 10 episodes is confirmed to start airing weekly on Channel 4 and Channel4.com from Thursday September 21 at 9pm. That means – interruptions notwithstanding – the series finale should arrive on Thursday November 23, which is traditionally when the next line-up is announced.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. The series 16 Taskmaster line-up comes first and back in June, was confirmed as comprising Julian Clary, Lucy Beaumont, Sue Perkins, Susan Wokoma and Sam Campbell.
Let’s have a quick refresher on where we’ve seen the series 16 contestants before:...

Jerry Springer, the former Cincinnati mayor who became America’s most controversial talk show host — a man described by one interviewer as a “purveyor of the puerile and arbiter of the aberrant,” famous for a combustible cocktail of hurled insults, punches and chairs — has died. He was 79.
Springer died Thursday of pancreatic cancer at his home in suburban Chicago, family spokesperson Jene Galvin told The Hollywood Reporter.
“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried, whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” Galvin said in a statement. “He’s irreplaceable, and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”
NBCUniversal, which produced and distributed The Jerry Springer Show, said in a statement, “Jerry Springer was much more than a talk show host who redefined television.

Kate Winslet and Kit Connor took the top acting prizes at the U.K.’s Royal Television Society Programme Awards on Tuesday.

Winslet made a powerful speech, saying: “It has never been a harder time to be a parent, it has never been a more dangerous time to be a child in an online world. Even if you walked into “Maybe I Do” knowing nothing about its pre-production provenance, it likely would not take long for you to discern, from the clockwork pacing, punchline-littered dialogue and frequent proscenium-arch framing, that this formulaic but fitfully entertaining trifle is based on a stage play. Indeed, for those viewers who recall the heyday of celebrity-driven dinner theater, the film may spark memories of wolfing down prime rib and knocking back mixed drinks before chuckling at the antics of aging and/or under-employed film and TV stars in everything from comedies by Neil Simon (or Neil Simon wannabes) to Broadway flops that enjoyed extended afterlives in the hinterland.
As it turns out, writer-director Michael Jacobs based “Maybe I Do” on his own “Cheaters,” a comedy that lasted scarcely a month on Broadway in 1978, and was most notable at the time for being the work of a playwright who was then only 22 years old.

Google, it is reported, offers employees gourmet dining experiences on its campus. Apple, meanwhile, hired Stevie Wonder to play for its workforce. After the critically acclaimed misery of Stefan Golaszewski’s Marriage last month, comes the lighter companion piece, Stuck, a sitcom about the claustrophobia of cohabitation.

Set in the fictional upper-class county of Rutshire, Rivals dives headfirst into the cutthroat world of independent television in 1986 when a long-standing rivalry between two powerful men is about to boil over: ex-Olympian, Member of Parliament, and notorious womanizer Rupert Campbell-Black, and his Rutshire neighbor Tony Baddingham, controller of the independent TV franchise Corinium Television.
As tensions rise and rivalries deepen, there are spilled secrets, forged alliances, and snatched liaisons that draw wives, lovers, colleagues, friends, and families into their battle.
“The combination of Jilly Cooper and Disney+ is delightfully unexpected. We were thrilled when Dominic brought us these iconic books, and we leapt at the chance to bring them to life. We can’t wait to welcome Rupert Campbell-Black and the residents of Rutshire to the platform,” said Lee Mason,...

Not to be confused with the recent Netflix film, Disney+’s “Wedding Season” is a “genre busting” eight-part dark comedy that sees a bride’s new family poisoned on the night of her wedding.
The Maze Runner franchise’s Rosa Salazar plays Katie, who meets Stefan (Gavin Drea of “Vikings: Valhalla”) at a wedding. The first look image from My Mother’s Wedding, the directorial debut from Kristin Scott Thomas, has been released. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, and Emily Beecham.
Principle photography on the film — which Scott Thomas co-wrote with John Micklethwait — has been completed. The film follows the story of three sisters who return to their childhood home for the third wedding of their twice-widowed mother, Diana. The three daughters now lead very different lives: Georgina, a palliative nurse; Victoria, a Hollywood star; and Katherine, a captain in the Royal Navy. Over the weekend, the family gathers to celebrate a new marriage, but mother and daughters alike are forced to revisit the past and confront the future, with help from a colorful group of unexpected wedding guests.
The cast includes Academy award nominee Scarlett Johansson, BAFTA award nominee Sienna Miller, and Cannes Best Actress winner Emily Beecham, who play the sisters. Academy award nominee and BAFTA award-winner Scott Thomas plays Diana Frost, their mother.
This marks the third time Scott Thomas and Johansson have played mother and daughter since 1998’s The Horse Whisperer.
“I have wanted to direct for a long time and it was thrilling to create this fictional family using my own childhood memories as a springboard,” said Kristin Scott Thomas. “Directing and acting with such talented actresses and reuniting with Scarlett Johansson has been exhilarating.”
The cast is filled out by BAFTA award nominee, Freida Pinto, Sindhu Vee, Joshua McGuire, Mark Stanley, Thibault de Montalembert and Samson Kayo.
Additional credits include director of photography Yves Belanger, BAFTA award-winning Production Designer Andrew McAlpine, Casting Director Lucy Bevan, Editor Gary Dollner, Costume Designer Sinead Kidao, and Academy award nominated Hair and Make-Up Designer Daniel Phillips.
CAA Media Finance, which arranged financing for the film, represents domestic rights.
