How about experiencing Hammer Horror - live? We went to London to find out more...
Hammer House Of Horror Live: The Soulless Ones is the resurrected horror brand's first stab at immersive theatre. Den of Geek headed to West London, excited to experience what promised to be a night of ghastly fun and ghouls, and keen to find out what the on earth immersive theatre is.
“Would you like a cape?” asked the usher.
“No thanks.”
“No, you have to take a cape. I just asked to be polite.”
It didn’t seem so polite to me, but he tipped me off that I should hang onto to my satchel as the bag check gets busy at the end of the night so I considered us squared away.
I found myself in a dim hallway, having picked up my ticket from the box office and cleared through...

It has been dismissed over the years as cheesy, cheap and laughable but, as has been the case on many occasions, Hammer Films have had the last laugh. They boast a back-catalogue that is to horror movies what The Rolling Stones’ discography is to rock music. Fifty-nine years after the release of their first horror movie proper (The Quatermass Xperiment), Hammer’s films have survived scrutiny and re-evaluation and have now attained National Treasure status. Moreover, in terms of sheer importance, the Hammer films were some of the most influential of the past half-century. The ripple-effect of their imitators cashing in on their success would beget the careers of some of the biggest names in Hollywood today.
And yet since 1984 Hammer has been a dormant entity, existing only in the memory: a pile of ashes, a cape and a signet ring waiting to be reanimated by the crimson, jugular discharge of some poor,...

Actress Michelle Ryan ("The Bionic Woman") has been cast as a bank robber in the upcoming UK comedy feature "Cockneys vs. Zombies", starting in London March 21.
"...in 'Cockneys vs. Zombies', a group of bank robbers crack open a 350-year-old vault and discover more than the loot they were after when an army of flesh-hungry zombies emerges..."
Actress Honor Blackman, who played 'Pussy Galore' in the 'James Bond' feature "Goldfinger" also stars in the film, to be directed by Matthias Hoene ("Beyond The Rave") from a screenplay by James Moran ("Torchwood").
"What I love about the 'CvsZ' concept is that it takes two established British genres, the gangster film and the horror film, and blends them together," said Hoene. "The film will be scary, darkly comic, witty and anarchic."
The UK branch of France’s Studio Canal, Optimum Releasing will release the film in Great Britain, while Sc Films International will handle all foreign sales.

Further to our post last week, a first trailer has arrived for Danny Dyer starring Brit horror Basement. So far it seems to be following the standard, by the numbers “locked in the dark with something narsty lurking” premise, but we’ll stick with it to see if it brings something new to the table. Basement is released on August 20th. Synopsis: Returning from an anti-war demo, the chaos of horror ensues when stoner Gary (Dyer - Severance), quiet and insular Sarah (Kierston Wareing – Fish Tank), vain Saffron (Lois Winstone – Beyond The Rave), posh Pru (Emily Beecham – 28 Weeks Later) and Pru's arrogant boyfriend Derek (Jimi Mistry - RocknRolla) stop in the country. When Derek and Saffron find an unexplained metal hatch in the middle of the forest, curiosity wins and they decide to explore inside. Searching for their missing friends, Gary, Pru and Sarah are forced to follow but the hatch locks behind them,...

You would think that with "Lost" mania still a big part of pop culture (despite its lukewarm finale), people who run into a mysterious hatch popping out of the ground in the middle of nowhere would just turn around and leave it alone. But hey ... then we wouldn't have a horror movie now, would we?

Everyone’s favourite mockney, Danny Dyer is back in another new British horror yarn ‘Basement,’ and lookee here, some first stills from the film have appeared on the flicks now live website. No surprise there’s nothing too revealing amongst them, but reading through the plotline its clear something unpleasant in the dark, waiting for our cast of plucky “20?” somethings. Could be good , but we'll reserved final judgement, until we clap eyes on a trailer. Basement is due for release next month. A poolside catfight is taking place in a suburban British garden on a balmy summer’s day. Verbal abuse, accusations and recriminations charge the air as actresses Tuppence Middleton and April Pearson start pushing each other around, edging ever close to the water. One is going to get a real soaking, emerging from the swimming pool in full wet-t-shirt mode. It’s another deliberately ironic scene from Tormented, a British horror/comedy determined to take on the archetypal American high-school shocker. IFC Films gives the film its U.S. debut via its on-demand service this week.
On the location in Birmingham, England this September day, producer Tracy Brimm sums up the Tormented mission statement. “It’s an irreverent horror movie in the style of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer,” she says, “about a bullied boy returning from the dead to take murderous revenge on the classmates who were responsible.
