Showing a rare grace and sincerity, filmmaker Manish Jha has decided to abandon plans of making his bio-pic on Dashrath Manjhi, the man who dug a roadway out of a mountain that separated his village in Bihar from the nearest hospital. A few months back, Ketan Mehta decided to make a film on the Mountain Man with Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead, precipitating a legal war with Manish Jha and his producer who claimed their idea had been stolen by a writer and sold to Ketan Mehta. But now Manish sees the matter more rationally. Says Jha, "I think it's important that Darshrath Manjhi's story be told. It doesn't matter who tells it. I guess somewhere I was being egoistic by insisting on making my own film on the subject even when I heard Ketan was doing it. I did feel cheated because I had started work on the subject many years ago.

On May 26, when the 66th Cannes film festival draws to an end, India will anxiously wait to see if either Monsoon Shootout or Dabba will bring home a Camera d’Or, the award given to the best debut film in the festival. Ritesh Batra’s Dabba which played in the International Critics’ Week won an audience award-the Grand Rail d’Or-following unanimous praise by the critics and the audiences.
While we wait, let’s go down in the annals of history to know about the Indian films that won awards at the premier film festival. Although they might seem like a rare and exquisite breed, there are actually quite a few of them starting from the very first edition of Cannes.
At the inaugural edition of the festival in 1946, Chetan Anand’s Neecha Nagar screened in competition and shared the Grand Prix with several other films. The top award-now Palme...

Music composer Mithoon who made an impressive debut with Onir's Bas Ek Pal went on to give outstanding music in films like Anwar, The Train, Murder 2 and Jism 2. It is now learnt that music baron Bhushan Kumar has roped Mithoon for a three film deal under his banner of T-Series. Although the details of the films are being tightly guarded, one does learn that this may be Mithoon's first to sign up such a deal. Apparently, the composer doesn't play more than a song or two during music sittings. However, when he sat down to discuss the tunes with Bhushan, he ended up sharing 7 songs in one go and Bhushan loved them all. Confirming the reports, Bhushan jubilantly says, "Yes it's true that I've signed Mithoon for three of my films. From the fun and exciting promos, Cocktail looks like a good romantic comedy that looks to appeal across the board. Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and debutante Diana Penty are the friends caught in ménage a trois of friendship and love in London. What caught everyone’s attention was some of that arresting music by Pritam that made sure ‘Tumhi Ho Bandhu’ stuck with you, and left you wanting to hear more. Pritam has also borrowed Honey Singh’s brilliant track ‘Angreji Beat’ which doesn’t come with the album, but the album would be incomplete without such a fabulous tune! Coming off a strong year of good and fun albums like Agent Vinod, and Ferrari ki Sawaari, Pritam definitely impresses here, and he can definitely be counted on to deliver some good songs for a romantic comedy like this one.

Everyone today is humming the song now and then. Asked a supposed reason for such popularity, Kshitij said, 'Everything depends on teamwork. If the lyrics and composition are well-compatible, a good song is on the record. Also, if a song is well-pictureised then the song is also loved visually too." Some stars are too keen for stardom. If they don’t get it the right way, they take it in their own ways. Fortunately or unfortunately we have a lot of such ‘chapters’ in the Industry. One such chapter it seems is the least expected ‘Nauheed Cyrusi’. Nauheed, who wooed her audience with her performance and simple looks in ‘Anwar’ made quite an unusual style statement or to be clear in our accounts, made quite a pathetic style statement recently. Where people wear extra short and super skimpy clothes, Nauheed took a step further (quite bold step) and made her ‘assets’.
