Plot Summary

Three best friends get together and bury a box, making a pact to open it at midnight at their high school graduation. In the small town in Georgia that they live in, things soon change. One is little miss perfect, one is an engaged prom queen, and the other is a pregnant outcast. On the night of their graduation, they open the box and they strike up a conversation. Suddenly, one brings up the topic of her going to Los Angeles for a record contract audition. They all decide to go together and they leave. With a little money, they set out on the road with a guy named Ben. When one of them tells the other a rumor that he might be a homicidal maniac, they are all scared of him. When they reach Los Angeles, Lucy (Britney Spears) falls in love with Ben and against her father's wishes, she stays and she goes to the audition. Written by Kara

Trivia Anson Mount was initially reluctant to accept the role of Ben - finding the script to be "cheesy" and "lame" - but was encouraged by Robert De Niro, with whom he was working at the time on City by the Sea (2002). De Niro turned out to be a huge Britney Spears fan. They went over scenes from 'Crossroads' on breaks from 'City by the Sea,' with Mount reading his lines and De Niro reading Spears'. See more »
Goofs When Lucy is on the phone to her dad and everyone is loading up the car outside the second hotel, Mimi is putting her stuff in the trunk of the car. You see Mimi look over at someone, shrug her shoulders and say, "What?" The directors were telling her that she was in Lucy's shot. See more »

Quotes [last lines]
Lucy Wagner: This time, we didn't make any wishes for the future. We said goodbye to our past. Now, none of us has any idea where life's gonna take us, 'cause what we have is now. And right now, we have each other.
