Some breaking news from Westeros: The Game of Thrones prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has added a major talent from Black Mirror to serve as its debut season’s lead director, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Owen Harris has boarded the HBO drama as an executive producer and will also direct the first three episodes, establishing the directorial vision for the series. Harris is best known for helming two of Black Mirror‘s finest episodes — “Be Right Back” and the widely acclaimed “San Junipero.”
In addition, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘ episode count has now been revealed: The first season will be six episodes, making for a tighter opener than the 10-episode first seasons of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. The run time seems appropriate given Knight is an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s 160-page novella The Hedge Knight rather than one of his 900-page epic novels.

Jon Stewart may only be hosting The Daily Show once a week, but when it comes to his beef with Arby’s, he’s all in.
Stewart has a long history of making Arby’s the butt of his jokes, dating back to his original tenure on The Daily Show. Where other brands might have sent “cease and desist” letters, Arby’s lapped up the free publicity, and ultimately took out ads on the show in response.
Now that Stewart is back hosting The Daily Show, it was probably only a matter of time before Arby’s would come up. This time, though, Jimmy Kimmel was the instigator.
Monday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! featured a pre-taped bit in which Kimmel picked up a hitchhiking Stewart and drove him to an Arby’s location in Hollywood.

In it, L’ak and Moll end up back on Discovery as prisoners, with the former receiving as much medical care as Culber (Wilson Cruz) can offer, given his knowledge of the Breen. Speaking of the Breen, multiple primarchs are after L’ak in hopes of using him to secure status. L’ak and Moll, of course, just want off the ship, so he comes up with a plan: He creates a distraction by injecting himself with what ends up being a fatal dose while she gets away to the shuttle; she was supposed to beam him aboard after,...

The confluence of inspirations and potentially inadvertent allusions in the new Netflix series Bodkin are both impossible to avoid discussing, and often its most interesting aspect. But a series being intriguing to discuss is not the same as that series being effectively entertaining from start to finish. In fits and starts, Bodkin is actually quite captivating, boasting a very impressive lead performance from Irish actress Siobhán Cullen and trying its hand at tweaking the small-town murder mystery that’s served as the foundation for many a film and TV show.
However, for a seven-episode series that could just as easily be a one-and-done story as the springboard for future seasons, Bodkin is a strange hybrid of comedy and drama, of tough-as-nails crime drama and spooky cult horror. It’s admirable for a series to aim high, but this show only succeeds at some of its creative ambitions.

Jeopardy! icon James Holzhauer is currently defending his Jeopardy! Masters title, but he took some time out earlier this week to weigh in on the Kendrick Lamar versus Drake beef. After an X user said, “Beefs don’t work in any other genre. Can you imagine 21 pilots and imagine dragons writing diss tracks about each other,” Holzhauer responded with a classic Jeopardy! clip that proved beefs can certainly happen on game shows. The clip was from the 2020 Greatest of All-Time tournament, which saw Holzhauer battling it out with fellow Jeopardy! legends Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. The moment featured Holzhauer’s epic diss of Rutter, where he pointed out how Rutter’s score of “0” was still on the screen after the boards reset, and Ken Jennings raised his hands in shock at what Holzhauer had said, reacting with a “Wow!” It was a moment viewers will never forget. “Funniest line ever delivered on Jeopardy!

The Price is Right viewers weren’t amused during Tuesday night’s (May 7) episode after one contestant wasted his opportunity on a “stupid” joke bid. As reported by The U.S. Sun, Tuesday’s episode saw a contestant named Nicholas called down from the audience to try his luck at winning some big prizes. However, Nicholas ended up shocking viewers and host Drew Carey with an outlandish bid. He and three others had to guess the price of a set of workout equipment, which included a spin bike and a vertical knee-raise station. As per the usual Price is Right rules, the winner was the bid closest to the real price without going over. Nicholas was asked to make his bid first, to which he said, “I’m gonna say $1 million.” The usually noisy studio audience fell silent as Carey looked baffled. “Seriously?” the host asked. “Yeah, it looks like some nice equipment,...

Warner Bros. Discovery added 2 million direct-to-consumer (Dtc) subscribers in the first quarter of 2024. It now has a total of 99.6 million Dtc subscribers across Max, linear HBO, Discovery+, and some relatively small international streamers you’ve never heard of — don’t worry about those.
It’s just the second straight quarter of a return to Dtc-subscriber growth after three straight quarters of losses. The combination of HBO Max and Discovery+ was bound to cannibalize some subscriptions in the early going, and that is exactly what it did.
The company’s Dtc business made an $86 million profit in the recently ended January-to-March quarter. David Zaslav, the Wbd president and CEO, shorthands that segment to “streaming,” so you can too — but anyone who gets the HBO channel through their cable provider is counted there as well.

John Mulaney’s limited-run Netflix talk show has been generating a lot of buzz this week, but for some fans of the show it’s been bittersweet, reminding them of another show—one that got away.
“We are only doing six episodes, so this show will never hit its groove,” Mulaney joked in the first episode of Everybody’s in L.A. last Friday. Groove or not, what Mulaney’s show has in spades is a vibe—one that reviewers, as cited by the host himself on the second episode, have called “loose,” “clunky,” and “impulsive” (in a good way).
It’s that vibe that’s reminded some viewers of The Chris Gethard Show, which began as a live show at NYC’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre before moving to public access TV in Manhattan. It then got a 20-episode run on Fusion, followed by a switch to truTV, where...

Kennedy Jr actually had part of his brain devoured by a now-deceased worm. So comedy is likewise dead, obviously. But that didn’t keep late-night hosts from digging into the story about Kennedy’s documented bout with what’s theorized to be neurocysticercosis, a parasitic condition caused by pork tapeworms and characterized by everything from seizures to memory loss.
Now nobody is saying outright that there’s a worm-related brain-hole driving the longtime proponent of such conspiracy nonsense as vaccines causing autism, Covid-19 being engineered by scientists,...

Jerry Seinfeld has apologized to Howard Stern for comments he made about the radio personality in a recent podcast interview, including that Stern lacked “comedy chops.”
“I really feel bad for what I said about my friend Howard Stern in a conversation with David Spade and Dana Carvey, talking about the glut of comedy podcasts,” he told TMZ, referring to his appearance on Carvey and Spade’s “Fly on the Wall” podcast.
While discussing the popularity of podcast culture with Carvey and Spade, Seinfeld asked the two fellow comedians, “Howard Stern invented this, right?”

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Chicago Fire Season 12 Episode 11 “Inside Man.”] For its 250th episode, Chicago Fire took a page out of Die Hard‘s book: Men break into Firehouse 51 and steal Truck 81—but unbeknownst to them, Severide (Taylor Kinney) hopped on it! The firefighters, of course, call in the Cpd, and during the investigation, Ritter (Daniel Kyri) shares his suspicions about the newest recruit, Damon (Michael Bradway), who has been very vocal about his love for the firehouse (but lied about taking one of Severide’s classes at the academy) and has a reason he’s not sharing for being there. In other words, 51 is not having an easy time replacing Gallo (Alberto Rosende) or Brett (Kara Killmer); Violet (Hanako Greensmith) has brought Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) in full-time but she’s still very much a question mark. “New characters also bring out new sides of all of 51’s residents, so it’s been a...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 46 Episode 11, “My Messy, Sweet Little Friend.”] Survivor Season 46 has had one clear trend: immunity idols often go home with the week’s eliminated player. It happened with Tiffany last week and Hunter the week before that, as well as Tevin a few episodes prior. The pattern repeated yet again in Episode 11 when a player found an idol, didn’t use it to shield themselves, and got eliminated all in one episode. Every time an idol gets flushed out, one gets put back in the game, leading surviving players on idol hunts. The Survivor 46 cast has hunted for idols so often this season, but one of the wildest goose chases came in Episode 11 on May 8. Jeff Probst says that this season’s idol pattern made the production team “reevaluate” things. The search for the idol was a long, fun sequence that involved most of the players. Kenzie was still reeling from having ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Abbott Elementary Season 3, Episode 12, “Mother’s Day.”] When it comes to Mother’s Day, television is no stranger to tackling the holiday, and in the sitcom world, many plots tend to revolve around underappreciated moms being sweetly recognized by their families, which is what makes Abbott Elementary‘s new episode, “Mother’s Day” so important. Instead of putting an emphasis on the underappreciated mom (aren’t they all?), the episode focuses on two different grief journeys experienced by Gregory (Tyler James Williams) and Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph). What sparks their story is Barbara noticing the lackluster Mother’s Day decorations outside Gregory’s classroom. When she inquires about the arts and crafts project, he tells her students put it together, but he didn’t pressure anyone to partake. When Barbara expresses disappointment, questioning if he’d show such a lack of appreciation toward his own mother, Gregory reveals that his...

The biggest feast Survivor’s Maria ever had wasn’t last week’s scrumptious Applebee’s meal. No sir. It was the epic blindside of Tiffany, which she says at the top of Wednesday’s episode “lit such a fire in me.” But does claiming credit for such a major move make Maria the game’s biggest target?

At the start of Jeopardy! Masters Season 2, Season 1 champ James Holzhauer declared that he was the “final boss” of the entire competition, but so far, it’s been the Victoria Groce show, through and through. In the third night of competition — for Games 5 and 6 on Wednesday, May 8 — Groce once again took the lead and held it. And although it wasn’t a runaway this time (for the first time in Masters‘ second season so far), she still had a commanding performance. So is Victoria Groce the new “final boss” of this season? Well, there’s still a lot of gameplay to go, but she’s off to a good start. Coming into the night, the tallies of match powers were: Victoria Groce in 1st place with 6, James Holzhauer in 2nd place with 4, Yogesh Raut in third place with 4 (because of the tiebreaker being the number of correct responses), Matt Amodio...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Masked Singer Season 11 Episode 10 “Quarter Finals: Final Four.”] And then there were three. The Masked Singer is getting closer and closer to naming another winner, with Clock, Goldfish, Gumball, and Poodle Moth competing in the quarterfinals. Sadly, one had to go home, and the celebrity in the Poodle Moth costume was none other than This Is Us star and singer Chrissy Metz. Below, Metz talks about her time on the show. What made you say yes to doing The Masked Singer? Did you have any hesitations? Chrissy Metz: Yeah, of course. First of all, it’s hard enough to sing without a costume on, and then the lights and the pressure and the audience and the judges… Music is my first love. So it was something that I wanted to do and I love to do, but I was like, can I do it? I don’t know if...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 11, Episode 10 of “The Masked Singer,” “Quarter Finals: Final Four,” which aired May 8 on Fox.
“This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz knew “The Masked Singer” would be a challenge. But that’s why Metz, who was revealed as latest celebrity to be unmasked on Wednesday night’s quarter finals, figured she had to do it.
“When I watched the show, and I would see either my friends or peers on the show, I’m like, how do they do it?” said Metz, who was revealed as the Poodle Moth.

Wednesday night’s new episode of Wheel of Fortune has got fans talking — for all the wrong reasons. The newest Grand Giveaways night saw three pairings of young people and their grandparents: Rex and Katherine Wang; Sam Johnson and Linda Vian; and Jovanni White and Joan Bradshaw. Katherine claimed to have been a Wheel watcher since the ’70s, but some fans weren’t convinced that any of the contestants of the night were truly up on the rules of the game. It all started when Sam & Linda couldn’t quite decide if they wanted to solve or request more letters during the first puzzle. Then, Rex and Katherine started spouting off vowel requests without the magic phrase — “I’d like to buy a vowel” — in the second puzzle. (They’d later go on to buy all of the vowels for some reason.) Then, Jiovanni and Joan joined in on the...

Final Jeopardy is meant to be a very tough part of the game, but was Wednesday night’s last clue on Jeopardy! utterly impossible? Some fans certainly seem to vehemently think so — especially since it resulted in a triple stumper. In the category “Rhyme Time: Opera Edition,” the clue was as follows: “Telling the story of a duke, a jester & the jester’s daughter, it was written by poet Francesco Maria Piave.” The answer? “What is the ‘Rigoletto’ Libretto?” None of the contestants got this correct, and two of them —new challengers Ben Mills and Kelcy LópezFreeman— didn’t even venture a guess! Returning champion Allison Gross, meanwhile, gave it a whirl with “What is Don Juan?” which was obviously not right. “That may be one of the most evil FJs I’ve seen in years,” one fan wrote in response to the clue on Reddit. “I honestly feel bad for the contestants.

What happens when you can’t mention a word about being a soccer star to a prospective girlfriend? The goal of Peacock‘s Love Undercover is to answer that question. To call AMC‘s Interview With the Vampire intense is an understatement. Harrowing, gut-wrenching, terrifying, heartbreaking — these words are more fitting, especially in Season 2, premiering Sunday, May 12. With Watch What Happens Live set to mark its 15th anniversary this July, Bravo is hoping to convince Emmy voters to include it among the late night nominees for outstanding talk series—even if the show’s host thinks it’s a lost cause.
Cohen made his feelings known in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter out today.
“My people are like, ‘This year’s gonna be the year for us!,’ Cohen revealed to THR. “But I tell them they’re wasting their time.”
Cohen’s show has never been nominated for Outstanding Variety Series Talk at the Primetime Emmys. (The program did earn a nomination in a more obscure category in 2018: Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media Within An Unscripted Program).
“Maybe I’m jaded,” Cohen continued. “But I just don’t think Emmy voters look at it as anything kind of serious or realistic. I don’t know.
