With a career that’s ranged 33 years — over three quarters of his life — Jake Gyllenhaal has covered nearly every type of character, genre, and form, but in a recent interview in The Hollywood Reporter, he said he’s now focused on taking on roles that “freak me out a bit.” Whether that means getting cut and learning to give and take a beating for Doug Liman’s “Road House” remake or wading through the moral and ethical murk of murder and infidelity in the upcoming Apple TV+ mini-series “Presumed Innocent,” Gyllenhaal is game for a challenge.
“The feeling I want to have is, can I do it?” said Gyllenhaal. “That it’s going to ask of me things that I don’t know about myself yet.”

In Lulu Wang’s “Expats,” Sarayu Blue’s Hilary is seemingly perfect, put together and polished.
On the surface, the American expat Hilary presents herself as a control freak. From her surroundings to her makeup and neutral wardrobe, it’s all pristine. That facade slowly unravels as her layers are peeled back in the Prime Video six-part limited series. Behind closed doors, her marriage is falling apart, and her husband is cheating on her.
Costume designer Malgosia Turzanska used “aggressive neutrals” when it came to building Hilary’s wardrobe. Her goal was to use costumes as camouflage and protective armor for the character.

I saw a whole encompassing story around all of the Lgbtqia+ community in that show and it resonated with me, it still resonates with me today.

Max has done it again. The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer has canceled another one of their masterful, underappreciated shows, this time the enthralling, cross-cultural crime period piece “Tokyo Vice.” The news was announced at the PGA’s Produced By conference by the show’s creator and executive producer J.T. Rogers and executive producer and director Alan Poul during a panel with Max original programming chief, Sarah Aubrey.
Despite the series’ short run, the panelists indicated that this was a mutual decision.
“We’re grateful not only to Max, but to our partners Fifth Season, who sold the show around the world, and made it a global success story,” Rogers and Poul wrote in join statement shared by Variety. “They were in the trenches with us always, guaranteeing that we could make the show we wanted to make. The response from both the press and from fans, in particular to Season 2, has been overwhelming.

Warning: The following post contains discussions of domestic abuse. Jana Kramer related to her role in Gaslit By My Husband: The Morgan Metzer Story on a deeply personal level. As a survivor of domestic abuse, Kramer knew how important it was for this real-life story to be told in her latest Lifetime movie, premiering June 9. “There’s so many people out there that need their voices to be heard. I wanted to be a conduit of freedom for those voices,” she told TV Insider. Kramer, who also executive produced the film, was able to speak to Morgan Metzer, whose relationship with ex-husband Rodney Metzer inspired the film. Morgan was beaten and sexually assaulted by a masked man in 2021. That man turned out to be her former husband, who initially pretended to come to her rescue after the attack. Rodney pled guilty to kidnapping and aggravated assault charges. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The Bau is in the last position any of these agents want to be in on Criminal Minds: Evolution this season: having to rely on serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) for what he says he knows about their current UnSub, known as Gold Star. But they must speak with him, and try to figure out how much he says is true. The hope? Maybe one of the members of the team can get him to slip up. They’ll have ample opportunities. Below, the cast and showrunner Erica Messer share some teases about what’s coming up with that and more as Season 17 continues. The Bau vs. Voit With the team having to use Voit, so far, as the second episode showed, they’ve been going to see him one at a time. Prentiss (Paget Brewster) will get some on-on-one time with him as well, according to Messer, ...

Born Elizabeth Anne Rees in Shaker Heights, Ohio, on April 14, 1943 — and educated at Shaker Heights High School, the University of Miami, and the Pasadena Playhouse — the actor made early appearances on the daytime soaps General Hospital and The Doctors, per THR. In the early 1970s, Rees guest-starred on the TV shows The F.B.I., Adam-12, Mannix, and Mod Squad. Then came her role in the ABC-turned-CBS sitcom My Three Sons. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ career has been defined by Hall of Fame sitcom roles in “Seinfeld” and “Veep” (not to mention her Emmy-winning turn in “The New Adventures of Old Christine”). But in her years since dominating the small screen, she’s gravitated toward a diverse array of film projects.
She played an oblivious Brentwood mom in Kenya Barris’ race relations comedy “You People,” a writer betrayed by her husband in Nicole Holofcener’s Sundance dramedy “You Hurt My Feelings” and the conniving CIA director in a handful of Marvel projects, including the upcoming “Thunderbolts.”

Jeremy Strong isn’t ruling out the possibility of another season of Succession, which ended — for now, at least — after a four-season run a year ago now. But if the Emmy-winning HBO drama does return, fans shouldn’t expect to see Strong reprise the role of businessman Kendall Roy. “I’m sure there’s a desire for more [Succession],” the actor told People at a press junket for 2024 Tony Awards nominees. “I would really pass that buck to [series creator] Jesse Armstrong. But I think in terms of the role that I played, he came to his terminal point. So for me, that’s something that is very happily put to rest.” (Armstrong, for his part, doesn’t seem ready to make more seasons, telling BBC Radio’s Today program this January that his writing team had “written [the Succession characters] enough now” and that a spinoff of the series “doesn’t feel like the most interesting thing to me,...

After what must have been hours of tense schedule deliberations in Hollywood conference rooms, the broadcast networks have unveiled their lineups for the 2024–2025 season. Some shows are gone, some are joining the fray, some are getting new timeslots, and some are moving off the grid entirely, en route to cable or streaming. In some of the biggest shakeups, Thursday nights are no longer the exclusive domain of Law & Order shows on NBC, and ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy is no longer going up against Svu. (Taylor Swift’s cats Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson must be so relieved.) Here’s what changing next season… Law & Order: Organized Crime is moving to Peacock, ending L&o Thursdays Will Hart/NBC NBC’s three-hour Law & Order block on Thursday nights is a thing of the past, now that Law & Order: Organized Crime is leaving NBC for corporate sibling Peacock for its fifth season.

Ryan Seacrest knows a thing or two about following in the footsteps of a legend. After all, he not only cohosted Live With Kelly and Ryan in a seat once occupied by Regis Philbin, but he also stepped into beloved TV personality Dick Clark’s shoes to emcee Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest. So you might think he’d take the idea of standing beside Vanna White as Pat Sajak’s replacement on Wheel of Fortune in stride. But no. “I’m like a kid, so excited about just seeing the set, you know,” he told the Today show about his new gig coming this fall. And he admitted to E! News, “Of course I’m nervous. I haven’t done it yet, so I’m terrified!” ABC/Disney Even so, Seacrest is no stranger to game shows. He’s hosted the singing competition...
