From Amy Schumer to Danny DeVito, there was no shortage of great, breakthrough performances on the Broadway stage. If these performances are any indication of what’s to come, then audiences are seeing the beginnings of successful theater careers -- and we can’t wait to see more!
Alex Newell, Once on This Island
Alex Newell and Hailey Kilgore. Joan Marcus
As Mother of the Earth in the revival of Once on This Island, Newell filled the Circle in the Square Theatre with his bombastic and vibrant performance of “Mama Will Provide.” It’s a show-stopping moment that literally brought audiences to their feet in rapturous applause. And his co-star, Hailey Kilgore, should not be overlooked. As Ti Moune, she carried the story about a peasant girl in love with a wealthy boy from one side of the island to the other and enjoyed her own standout moment, leading a rapturous dance during a ball scene. A dentist who was accused of killing an Oklahoma City baby is now being accused of allegedly trying to hire someone to murder the child’s mother.
According to Kfor, Bert Franklin was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder by the Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater on Monday morning – just hours before his trial over the death of the baby was to begin.
According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Franklin allegedly paid $300 to hire someone to murder Roxanne Randall, the mother of 19-month-old Lincoln Von Henry Lewis, with whom Franklin was having an affair with at the time.

Talk show interviews can go wrong for any number of reasons, but never before has a Tonight Show chat gone so hilariously haywire.
J.J. Abrams sat down with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday to promote The Play That Goes Wrong -- a slapstick meta-comedy about a play that, well, goes really poorly.
News: How ‘Star Wars’ Led J.J. Abrams to His Broadway Debut
Abrams, who is producing the Broadway production of the British play, welcomed the playwrights -- Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields -- to join him for the interview, and things got off to a rough start almost immediately, when Shields got his foot tangled up in the stage curtain.
From rearranging the desks, to using a flashlight as a spotlight, to forcing Lewis to get on all fours and act like a desk, the Vaudevillian comedy of errors doesn't let up for one second -- and it ended up being one of the funniest...

“Theater geek” may not be the most obvious label for J.J. Abrams, who has built a film and TV career directing, writing and producing sci-fi and action-heavy shows (Alias, Lost), rebooting film franchises (Star Trek, Star Wars) and launching his own Easter egg-filled film universe (Cloverfield). But the filmmaker has the same appreciation for Broadway as he does The Twilight Zone, the sci-fi anthology series he’s long considered to be one of the best on TV.
“I’ve been a fan of theater all my life,” Abrams tells Et. In fact, he has been attending shows in New York City, where he was born, since he was a young kid, collecting playbills from every production along the way. “I embarrassingly saved all of them.”
He recalls seeing the original runs of The Magic Show, starring Doug Henning, and Noises Off, as well as various productions of Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams plays. He cites Ira Levin...

Here at Et, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and for the week of March 6 to March 12, this is what we’re most excited about:
Why We’re Obsessed With ‘Feud: Bette and Joan’
Here’s what we’re saying: If you’re not watching this show yet -- get on it. The series, which stars Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon as screen icons Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, centers on the backstage of Hollywood's all-time greatest feuds. The series details the bitter, often violent rivalry between the two actresses during the shooting of the 1962 melodrama What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Sunday’s premiere was nothing short of addicting. Adding to the stellar performances by Lange and Sarandon are Judy Davis as Hedda Hopper, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Olivia de Havilland, Sarah Paulson as Geraldine Page, Kathy Bates as Joan Blondell and Kiernan Shipka as B.D., Davis’ daughter...
