The Last of Us season 2 is finally rolling on screens right now, but it isn’t one without gut-wrenching moments of its own. While it is coming across as one of the most tear-jerking experiences for the non-gamers who are viewing this series for the first time, it’s even worse for people who have long been fans of the franchise, from the video games — like Tati Gabrielle.
For one, it is making those longtime fans relive some of the most nightmarish events, and Gabrielle found herself becoming a victim of the same as she experienced ‘the worst’ Ptsd during one gut-wrenching scene. And, surprisingly enough, this scene wasn’t the one featuring Joel’s death, as many might expect, but rather, something else altogether.

Adapting a video game into a TV show is never easy. Fans want to see their favorite moments come to life. They also hope for improvements that make the experience even better. The Last of Us has managed to strike a good balance between staying true to the game and adding something new. Season 2, in particular, stands out for one key moment that sparked a lot of discussion.
The Last of Us makes a major change to one of the most important events in the game, as the way Joel’s death is handled in the show differs from the original game. This change has led to several debates among fans about which version of the scene is more effective.
Joel’s death in the show is more emotional
In the game, The Last of Us, Joel’s death is sudden and brutal. He’s ambushed by Abby and quickly killed.

Baz Luhrmann has chosen his next movie. He will direct a film called Jehanne d’Arc for Warner Bros. The movie will tell the story of Joan of Arc, a brave teenage girl who became a hero in France. She helped lead the French army to a big win in 1429. Just two years later, in 1431, she was burned at the stake.
While the casting call was originally expected to go out in September of last year, there have been few updates since then about the film or who might take on the lead role.
However, notable industry insider Daniel Richtman recently shared on his Patreon that The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey is interested in portraying Joan of Arc.
It’s important to note that this information has not been confirmed by official sources and remains a rumor at this stage.

Bella Ramsey may be only 21 and may have spent only a few years as an actor in Hollywood’s entertainment industry, but their performance so far has been nothing short of iconic. Not only did they succeed in making a fair name for themselves within little to no time of choosing acting as their profession, but they have also become a recipient of numerous major award nods.
However, as acclaimed as they have become now, even winning an Emmy nomination for their outstanding performance in The Last of Us television series, they were actually initially going to walk away from this respective nod. This was because of the offensive practices for the different genders out there, which had them uncomfortable because of their non-binary status.

Former Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Bella Ramsey recently shared their memories of filming together on the HBO series. Harington, who portrayed Jon Snow, and Ramsey, who played Lyanna Mormont, sat down for an interview with Interview Magazine to discuss their experiences, including a memorable scene from their first meeting.
Ramsey, who was 11 years old at the time, recalled a moment when she helped Harington with his lines during a scene. “I remember it quite vividly and have some remorse for it now,” she said, explaining that she was mouthing his lines to him to help him out. Harington, laughing at the memory, confirmed the incident, adding, “It was quite humiliating. But yeah, thanks for that. I’ve probably chosen to forget it.”
Despite the humor, Harington praised Ramsey’s acting skills, noting her surprising confidence and clarity. “You brought a confidence and clarity that was quite unusual for a young actor,...

From one star of an HBO fantasy juggernaut to another, former co-stars and friends Kit Harington and Bella Ramsey recently reconnected to reminisce about their time filming Game of Thrones, in which the latter portrayed noblewoman Lyanna Mormont beginning in Season 6.
The two sat down with Interview Magazine, where Harington questioned Ramsey about their debut role in the lauded series, in which he memorably played hero Jon Snow over the course of eight seasons.
“I remember not feeling like a child, but now I see 11-year-olds and realize how tiny they are, so it’s weird to me that I was that size and that young, because I didn’t feel that tiny,” The Last of Us star said. “I don’t know whether you remember this, but I remember it quite vividly and have some remorse for it now, but during [our introduction] scene I was mouthing your lines to you.

Early in The Last of Us Part II, Joel, the main character from the first video game, dies. He is brutally murdered by a new character named Abby while his surrogate daughter Ellie watches. For the rest of the game, players switch between playing as Ellie and Abby, as the one goes on a quest for revenge and the other recovers from her own.
Critics loved the game, but players went berserk. There was an online backlash so loud you could not avoid it if you were even passingly interested in gaming and owned a phone. Offended fans raged and ranted; the low point may have been when Laura Bailey, the actor who voiced Abby, received death threats not only against herself but her 2-year-old son.

Asked which of Ellie’s relationships they were most excited to see on screen in “The Last of Us” Season 2, star Bella Ramsey didn’t hesitate to pick Dina, played by actress Isabela Merced. “She’s so brilliant, and I’m really excited for people to see how wonderful she is and how much light and energy and humor she brings to this season,” Ramsey said of Merced. “She really just had this unwavering energy about her the whole time, which was really great for being on set. Was Tom Selleck supposed to be Indiana Jones? ( Photo Credit – Flickr; Instagram )
For most movie lovers, Harrison Ford is the signature face of Indiana Jones – whip, rugged and charismatic. But believe it or not, Ford wasn’t the first pick to play the now-iconic adventurer. In fact, had things gone slightly differently in the early ’80s, Tom Selleck might’ve been outrunning boulders and chasing down ancient relics in the blockbuster film franchise.
Yes, the moustachioed TV heartthrob of Magnum, P.I. fame was actually the original choice to play Indiana Jones. The surprising reveal recently came from Karen Allen, who played Marion Ravenwood opposite Ford in the film. In a candid conversation reflecting on her career, Allen confirmed that Selleck was the maker’s first choice to play the titular character and was even approached for the same. However, Tom Selleck couldn’t take up the role because of...

Was Kit Harington embarrassed by Bella Ramsey?(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Before The Last of Us catapulted Bella Ramsey into the HBO spotlight, they were already turning heads in Westeros. At just 11 years old, Ramsey made a splash on Game of Thrones as the fierce Lady Lyanna Mormont — and apparently, even seasoned actors like Kit Harington weren’t immune to being outshone.
In a recent chat for Interview Magazine, the two stars revisited their first scene together on Thrones. And Ramsey didn’t hold back when recalling a hilariously awkward moment on set. “I don’t know whether you remember this,” they said to Harington, “but I remember it quite vividly and have some remorse for it now, but during that scene I was mouthing your lines to you.”
Yep — Ramsey, then a fresh-faced preteen, was subtly coaching Jon Snow himself through his dialogue. Bold move, but it came from a good place.

Oftentimes, fans on both sides can resort to dealing in absolutes when it comes to the discussion surrounding The Last of Us, losing any sort of nuance in the process. Similar discourse has existed around Joel’s decision to save Ellie at all costs, even if it meant dooming the entire humanity in the process, or at least whatever is left of it.
Although there’ll be no definitive answer to whether the hypothetical vaccine could’ve cured humanity or not, the logistics don’t matter in this case, as in the end of the day, both Joel and the Fireflies robbed Ellie’s agency.

[Editor’s note: This article contains spoilers for “The Last of Us” Season 2, Episode 3]
Games are the only art form where the player makes the story happen, whether that means saving the princess from the monster in the castle or murdering an entire hospital full of people to save the one person immune to the Cordyceps infestation whose death might lead to a cure. You have to make Joel’s choices to finish the game, whether you agree with them or not. That’s what really hurts.
A huge part of adapting from games to another medium is figuring out what has to shift about the story when it’s no longer designed around somebody playing, and maybe no adaptation understands this challenge better than “The Last of Us.” No amount of load screen homages, lore drops and Easter eggs, or lovingly recreated environments stand in for good storytelling. When “The Last of Us” invents wholly original sequences,...

Netflix has a strong Emmy hand to play this TV awards season, positioning the seventh season of its flagship anthology series “Black Mirror” for a major awards run — and this time, the dystopian drama might be among its most formidable contenders yet.
Confirmed exclusively to Variety, the streamer is submitting three standout performances for lead acting honors in the limited or anthology series or TV movie categories: Paul Giamatti for the melancholic and moving “Eulogy,” and Chris O’Dowd and Rashida Jones for their resonant turns in the sociopolitical two-hander “Common People.” It’s a bold push that signals high hopes for a season already being hailed as a return to form — and possibly the series’ strongest outing since its Emmy-winning heyday.
Giamatti’s performance as Phillip, a solitary man navigating grief through digital means in “Eulogy,” has generated both tears and buzz. The 46-minute episode explores the ethics of AI-driven memorials,...

The HBO show of the moment is The Last of Us, the network's adaptation of Naughty Dog's series of video games. The show follows Joel and Ellie, two survivors of the zombie apocalypse.
Well, it used to follow Ellie and Joel. In last week's episode, Joel was brutally murdered by a new character named Abby. Meanwhile, back in the fortified settlement of Jackson, Joel's brother Tommy helped defend the snow-bound town from a massive zombie attack. That battle scene reminded more than a few people of the Massacre at Hardhome from another huge HBO show, Game of Thrones; in that battle, Jon Snow defended the fortified snowbound town of Hardhome from a massive zombie attack. The similarities were so obvious that even the official Max channel pointed it out:
Same mentality, different realm. #TheLastOfUs pic.twitter.com/OKuQSfHEGx

Killing Joel is another Game of Thrones-esque move.

The latest episode of The Last of Us explored the fallout of Joel's brutal death. The show is heading into new territory now as Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced) head to zombie-infested Seattle to hunt down his killers.
That's where we'll find them when the fourth episode of season 2 airs this Thursday, and HBO has released a bevy of new images. Let's check them out, starting with Ellie and Dina surveying their new surroundings:

HBO’s retelling of one of the most impactful narratives in modern gaming has taken some notable creative liberties, especially when it comes to the structure and Gabriel Luna’s Tommy. Given his ties to Jackson and his newfound responsibility for Ellie, it’s safe to say we’re getting a lot more Tommy/Ellie moments than we got in the game.
As for what lies ahead for his bond with Bella Ramsey’s Ellie in the wake of her quest to avenge Joel, Luna addressed that there will be a seismic shift in their dynamic.

In this world, you either survive or you don’t. Indeed, there’s something eerily fitting about that line. The Last of Us isn’t just about surviving the infected; it’s about outlasting the chaos that the world has become. The apocalypse, with all its infected horrors, isn’t the worst part. The worst part? It’s the people. In a world so broken, factions rise like vultures circling for scraps.
For Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), it’s a game of survival, but it’s also a game of playing the field of power. Sure, the infected are terrifying: no one wants to get bitten, but the real danger lies in what we do when we’re pushed to the edge.
The W.L.F., the Seraphites, the Fireflies – all have their unique flavors of survival, but each shares one trait: nothing is ever black and white.

Before Bella Ramsey became famous for their role as Ellie in HBO’s video game adaptation series, The Last of Us, the actor was known for Game of Thrones. They made their debut as a young noblewoman named Lyanna Mormont in the HBO series, leaving viewers in awe of their acting genius at such a young age.
But it wasn’t just viewers who were left impressed, as even their co-star, Kit Harington, was left a bit impressed and humiliated by them trying to help him out. Harington, who starred as Jon Snow, recently recalled how Ramsey trying to help him remember his line ended up being one of his most humiliating moments ever.

When Bella Ramsey made their television debut on Game of Thrones as Lady Lyanna Mormont, Kit Harington was blown away by this young actor who seemed to steal the scene effortlessly. In a conversation for Interview Magazine, Ramsey recalled a moment when they helped Harington when he was having trouble with his lines.
“I don’t know whether you remember this, but I remember it quite vividly and have some remorse for it now, but during that scene I was mouthing your lines to you,” Ramsey said. “Now I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, how awful.’ But at the time it came from a very innocent place of being like. ‘Kit’s struggling with his line and I know it, so let me just mouth it to him.’“

Before they led their own HBO adaptation with “The Last of Us,” Bella Ramsey made their television debut on “Game of Thrones,” playing Lady Lyanna Mormont across the final three seasons of the series. In one of their first acting jobs, an 11-year-old Ramsey shared a scene with series star Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow. The pair recalled their time working together in a new conversation hosted by Interview Magazine — and the “humiliating” moment when Ramsey had to remind Harington of what his line was.

Long before they were The Last of Us‘ Ellie, and before they’d built Lyanna Mormont into a legendary — if pint-sized — badass, Bella Ramsey was just an 11-year-old actor on the set of a massively popular hit series.
And when Thrones star Kit Harington showed up for his first scene with Ramsey with a self-described “arrogance” that included not knowing his lines cold, he quickly learned that acting “opposite some child” was not going to go the way he expected.

More than 400 members of the UK film and television industry have signed an open letter voicing concern over the UK Supreme Court’s recent ruling that defines “woman” under the Equality Act as referring to biological sex. The letter states that the decision, issued on April 17, poses a threat to trans, non-binary, and intersex individuals working in the industry and beyond.
Notable signatories include Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), Harris Dickinson (Babygirl), Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Paapa Essiedu (The Outrun), and director Molly Manning Walker (How to Have Sex). The initiative was started by Sid Strickland, a development producer at Motive Pictures, and script editor Jack Casey.
The letter expresses support for communities affected by the ruling and urges cultural institutions and industry groups to take public steps toward ensuring protection and safety for trans individuals. Paapa Essiedu, who is set to star in the HBO “Harry Potter” series, has made a public statement in support of trans, non-binary, and intersex communities. Essiedu signed an open letter calling for film and TV industry action to protect trans rights after the U.K. Supreme Court ruled that gender is defined by biological sex. That action goes directly against Essiedu’s producer, J.K. Rowling, who created the “Harry Potter” franchise and is producing the Max series.
In addition to Essiedu, stars Harris Dickinson, Nicola Coughlan, Bella Ramsey, Jack Rooke, Faye Marsay, Kate Herron, director Molly Manning Walker, and more than 400 other filmmakers supported the open letter, which was first circulated by Motive Pictures producer Sid Strickland and script editor Jack Casey. The letter asks organizations such as BAFTA, BFI, Directors U.K., Picturehouse, BBC, Writers Guild, and Channel 4 to commit to protecting trans people.

Harris Dickinson and Nicola Coughlan are among hundreds of names demanding action.
The Babygirl actor and the Bridgerton star join names like Bella Ramsey, Moly Manning and Paapa Essiedu in signing an open letter calling for industry action on trans rights after the UK Supreme Court’s ruling earlier this month, defining a woman based on biological sex, via Deadline.
The letter was started by development producer Sid Strickland of Motive Pictures and script editor Jack Casey, and expresses solidarity for the trans, non-binary and intersex communities affected by the ruling.
The guidance now says in places like restaurants, shops and hospitals, that “trans women (biological men) should not be permitted to use the women’s facilities.”
The ruling, and the subsequent Equalities & Human Rights Commission guidance, will see trans people excluded from many single-sex facilities, which will affect everything from movie sets to theaters.

We’re now a full episode removed from Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) tragic death at the hands of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), and one of the stars of The Last of Us is pulling back the curtain on his life before his passing. Gabriel Luna portrays Joel’s brother Tommy in the hit HBO series, and although the two spent years apart after Tommy went off to chase the Fireflies, they'd been together the last few years before Joel’s passing, and reunited in Jackson, Wyoming. Like all brothers, the two butted heads from time to time, but they still shared a strong bond unlike any other. During a recent interview with Decider, Luna spoke about Tommy’s “Give Sarah my love” message to Joel in Episode 3, and why it was perfect left there without anything else added:
"It’s the only way of making sense of the abrupt departure of somebody he loves so dearly.

Bella Ramsey is known these days for playing the lead role of Ellie on The Last of Us, but they got their start on another high-profile HBO show: Game of Thrones, where they played the pint-sized lady of Bear Island, Lyanna Mormont.
In her very first scene on the show, Lyanna Mormont was lying down the law for Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham). "You brought a confidence and clarity that was quite unusual for a young actor," Kit Harington told Ramsey in a feature for Interview. "It didn’t feel like working with a child. A recent UK Supreme Court decision, financed in part by Harry Potterauthor Jk Rowling, ruled that trans women were not women. People were furious at the attack on trans rights, and protests erupted across the UK.
Now, a group of British creatives have signed a letter (via Deadline) urging cultural institutions to protect trans rights in the country. They're calling out the BBC, Channel 4, BAFTA and more. Some big names are in the letter, including Bella Ramsey of The Last of Us (Ramsey identifies as non-binary), Nicola Coughlan of Bridgerton, and Faye Marsay of Andor. The letter was kickstarted by producer Sid Strickland of Motive Pictures alongside script editor Jack Casey.
But there's one name on there that's bound to get people talking -Paapa Essiedu. The British actor was recently cast to play Severus Snape in the new HBO Harry Potter series, and Harry Potter is currently a battleground over trans rights.

Two of the stars of The Last of Us are on the rise this week in Gold Derby's Emmy predictions.
Pedro Pascal, whose beloved character Joel had a brutal run-in with a golf club in the second episode of Season 2, has jumped from fourth place to third place in Best Drama Actor. Meanwhile, series newcomer Isabela Merced, who plays the free-spirited zombie apocalypse survivor Dina, has ascended from ninth place to eighth place in Best Drama Supporting Actress. This would be Pascal's fourth career Emmy bid after receiving three in 2023 for The Last of Us, Saturday Night Live, and Patagonia; Merced is seeking her first nomination.
Series lead Bella Ramsey is still in second place in Best Drama Actress, behind only Kathy Bates (Matlock), who has claimed the No. 1 position since we began tracking the 2025 Emmys. Ramsey's defiant character Ellie must now learn how to survive without her father figure in her life.

HBO's The Last of Us is viewed by many as being one of the best adaptations of any video game ever. Season 1 was led by Bella Ramsey's Ellie and Pedro Pascal's Joel. By the time Season 2 premiered a few weeks ago, the pair were at odds, and sadly for them, they never got around to reconciliation as Joel was killed by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), a former Firefly. In 2020's The Last of Us Part 2, Joel's death was met with a fiery ride to Seattle by Ellie, but the aftermath of Joel's death in Season 2, Episode 3, was a lot more solemn and measured. While it might not have pleased some viewers on the internet, who have presumably played the games. Co-showrunner and game director Neil Druckmann expanded on the decision.

The Last of Us is a masterpiece video game that tackles raw human emotions from start to finish. It was an emotional rollercoaster that was too good for an interactive experience, and later became a television series that rivals the quality of storytelling from the source material.
Casting is one of the difficult aspects in live-action adaptations, and at one point, Kaitlyn Dever was in the running for the lead role for the live-action movie that never saw the light of day. Dever eventually was cast as Abby Anderson opposite Bella Ramsey’s Ellie Williams in the HBO adaptation and recalled the role that got away.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Last of Us
There are new starts and new threats in the latest episode of HBO’s The Last of Us, and while those who’ve played Naughty Dog’s game series of the same name might think they know where things are going, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are keen to keep us on our toes. While the threat of the Washington Liberation Front looms, there’s a whistle from the sidelines as the Seraphites gather their ranks.

As we head into a new era without Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller (although we know he’ll return), the games continue to be a loose framework of where the series goes next. While the threat of the Washington Liberation Front looms, there’s a whistle from the sidelines as the Seraphites gather their ranks.

If you’ve been watching The Last of Us on HBO, you’ll know that Pedro Pascal‘s beloved character, Joel, was brutally killed in episode 2 of season 2.
Fans mourned the loss of the character – and the actor’s presence on screen, as the show now feels a bit changed without him.
However, we’ve learned some information that is a bit of a silver lining!
Keep reading to find out more…
According to Screen Rant, Pedro will still appear in two more episodes in season 2! Season 2 has 7 total episodes, and he’s apparently slated to appear in four of the seven eps. After appearing in the first two episodes of the season, fans can now expect to catch him in two more episodes this year.
If you’re wondering how this is possible, it seems as if Ellie (Bella Ramsey) will see Joel in flashback sequences.

It's about time to revoke some people's internet privileges. Anybody who targets minorities and women online needs to check themselves anyway. Despite the efforts of certain platforms to prevent review-bombing, trolls still seem to be getting away with it. The latest victim is HBO's The Last of Us, which, like the video game it is based on, has been targeted by individuals who seem to have a problem with women being spotlighted. The second season of the show, which premiered less than a month ago, immediately started attracting negativity from a section of the audience. This was reflected in its fast-declining audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. But trolls can't be contained to just one platform; they've also messed with the show's rating on Metacritic.
The Last of Us Season 2 holds a "must-watch" 81/100 on the aggregator platform, but its user rating is languishing at 4.4. One glance at the user reviews reveals...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Last of Us season 2
It’s a whole new world for HBO’s The Last of Us, and while things had already gone to sh*t due to the Cordyceps outbreak turning most of the human population into bloodthirsty mushroom monsters, that’s arguably nothing compared to the horrors that Bella Ramsey’s Ellie has been facing. While the events of 2020’s The Last of Us Part II had already foreshadowed some serious heartbreak for Ellie, fans weren’t sure exactly when the writers would deliver that big moment. Although some thought they’d save it for some The Walking Dead-inspired season cliffhanger, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann got a major character death out of the way early.

In The Last of UsSeason 2, the tragedy of Ellie’s (Bella Ramsey) journey is becoming even harder to ignore — and according to the show’s creators, that’s no accident. Speaking on the official HBO podcast for the series, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann opened up about Ellie’s increasingly dark path, and how characters like therapist Gail (Catherine O’Hara) are starting to recognize that the damage done to Ellie might be too deep to undo.
"This is sort of the question of the entire thing. What does it mean to be saved, and can it happen at all in this world? Is someone doomed to go down a path that we would call wrong? Gail’s point here is arguable... She is presenting the fatalistic point of view, which is Ellie’s broken. She’s broken. She started broken. She got more broken. Now she is really broken,” Mazin said,...
