After former President Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of fraud, CNN anchors Boris Sanchez and Brianna Keilar invited former Trump Press Secretary Hogan Gidley and political commentator Paul Begala to discuss the verdict.
The segment, which was meant to focus on the historic verdict, turned into Begala’s tirade against Trump’s physical appearance. Gidley later commented on current President Joe Biden‘s cognitive state. Sanchez and Keilar attempted to redirect the conversation. Eventually, both Begala and Gidley had their air time cut after the two did not stop their personal comments on Trump and Biden.
After Begala claimed he felt some “pity” for Trump, he threw a jab at the former president’s appearance. “I mean, he’s an obese, flatulent old man with bad makeup and weird hair who had to sit in a courtroom and listen to a porn star testify about how bad he is in bed.

Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft’s attempt to justify his ludicrous threat to have President Joe Biden removed from the state’s electoral ballot spiraled into chaos over the most basic of questions: “How so?”
During a Monday interview with CNN’s Boris Sanchez, the Republican was asked how he justified his threats to have Biden removed from the state’s ballot in retaliation for recent attempts to remove Trump from state ballots on grounds that his actions in the aftermath of the 2020 election constitute insurrection. Donald Trump’s civil fraud trial started Monday in New York, with the former president trying to fill the void left by a prohibition on cameras in the proceedings.
Before heading into the court this morning, he spoke to the media outside the courtroom, attacking New York state Attorney General Letitia James and bashing the judge, Arthur Engoron. After a lunchtime break, Trump gave another angry statement just after he exited. And he did so again while heading back in. “I want to watch this witch hunt myself,” he said.
Fox News carried portions of his remarks live, while CNN and MSNBC used them sparingly, often with correspondents talking over visuals of Trump speaking to reporters. CNN did do a fact check, while MSNBC ran a box in the bottom right-hand screen of the courtroom door.

Kate Bolduan’s next shift on CNN hasn’t started quite yet, but she’s acting as if it has. A group of cameras is flocking around the news anchor in a New York studio that has recently been updated, and she presses producers to let her rehearse a story she needs to have mastered by the time she gets on air. “We don’t want to get this half right,” she tells those listening to her.
Neither does the news network.

Boy, the hits keep on coming for CNN’s semi-new CEO Chris Licht — and we don’t mean the network’s lineup.
CNN just notched its lowest ratings in nine years across all its day parts for the week of Jan. 16 through Jan. 22, 2023, according to Nielsen averaging just 444,000 viewers in primetime, 93,000 in the all-important age 25-54 news demographic and 417,000 in viewers and 80,000 in the demo for total day. It’s the first time since May 2014 that the network failed to reach 450,000 viewers.

MSNBC is shifting the roles of anchors Chris Jansing and Hallie Jackson on broadcast and streaming programming, the network confirmed Thursday to TheWrap.
The network has added an hour to “Chris Jansing Reports,” which will now air from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on MSNBC. Jackson, who has been anchoring the 3 p.m. hour of “MSNBC Reports,” will shift to streaming on NBC News Now with an hour of “Hallie Jackson Now.” Katy Tur will now anchor the 3 p.m. slot.
Other notable changes to MSNBC’s line-up include José Díaz-Balart shifting to 11 a.m. while Andrea Mitchell assumes anchoring duties at noon and Katy Tur anchors the 3 p.m. hour. As the 10 a.m. time slot remains without a permanent anchor, the hour will be anchored by rotating hosts until a new anchor is select.

CNN unveiled a revamped daytime slate and anchor trios Wednesday that aim to take a “fresh approach” to its daytime programming through two new programs.
The network will host a standalone weekday 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Eastern block anchored by John Berman, Kate Bolduan and Sara Sidner out of CNN’s New York studios, while the subsequent 1 p.m.–4 p.m. Eastern standalone program will be hosted by Brianna Keilar, Boris Sanchez and Jim Sciutto.
The new daytime lineup resumes the network’s shakeup under the leadership of CNN Worldwide Chairman and CEO Chris Licht, who stunned viewers in September when he shifted network staple Don Lemon from hosting his own primetime show to co-anchoring “CNN This Morning” alongside Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins.

CNN said it would shuffle anchors across its weekday and weekend daytime schedules, grouping them together in new ways the network hopes will attract viewers as it attempts to work its way out of a longtime ratings shortfall.
John Berman, Kate Bolduan and Sara Sidner will lead a three-hour mid-morning program from New York that lasts from 9 a.m. to noon, while Brianna Keilar, Boris Sanchez and Jim Sciutto will anchor a three-hour Washington, D.C. broadcast between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. John King will keep his noontime show “Inside Politics” on weekdays.
CNN intends to showcase an energetic “newsroom headquarters” concept that untethers anchors from their desks and tries to show newsgathering and reporting on screen most of the time. Amara Walker, the CNN correspondent newly assigned to co-anchor weekend mornings, will be represented by CAA.
Walker, who joined CNN in 2012, works alongside co-anchor Boris Sanchez. The two also anchor CNN’s 10 a.m. hour on Saturdays. “New Day Weekend” anchor Christi Paul announced on air Sunday that she’s leaving the network after nearly two decades with CNN and Hln.
Paul, who joined the weekend show in 2014, will join another news station in her home state of Ohio. She promised to announce her new position later this week.
As Paul took her “New Day” seat for the last time, she gave viewers the same explanation she says she gave to ex-cnn president Jeff Zucker in January of this year: that the demands of her exhausting schedule kept her away from her family. “I love these people, I love this place, I am so grateful and I am so tired,” she told her co-anchor Boris Sanchez.
