Exclusive: Platige Image (The Witcher) and Mount Devil, together with The Wheel of Time’s executive producer Mike Weber, are in the works on a TV series based on Otherland, the 4-book series by Tad Williams.
Otherland (the books and its TV adaptation) is described as “an epic cyberpunk-fantasy adventure.” The summary reads, “The world as we know it has an additional layer here – hyper-realistic VR arenas that have become a new place for fun, work, education but also debauchery, crime and abuse. The mysterious Otherland, supposedly another layer of the network, becomes a mere starting point for a multi-realm adventure.
Its Inception-like mechanics contain a series of realms, some uncannily resembling the world we know, others bizarre clusters of familiar creations and characters. Among them are intergalactic taverns, medieval fantasies, and battlegrounds of World War I, to name a few.”

The new “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” has run fast through the events of its “Fire & Blood” source material, with the first season covering a span of 20 years in eight episodes. In a Monday post on his blog “Random Musings,” original series author George R.R. Martin revealed that he hopes the series will continue on this pace to cover the entire Targaryen civil war (or the Dance of Dragons) over four seasons.
“There are only so many minutes in an episode (more on HBO than on the network shows I once wrote for), and only so many episodes in a season … If ‘House of the Dragon’ had 13 episodes per season, maybe we could have shown all the things we had to ‘time jump’ over… though that would have risked having some viewers complain that the show was too ‘slow,’ that ‘nothing happened.’ As it is, I am...

My perception of fantasy conventions in the past was that they tend to be more adult-oriented with anime and cos-play, but the Wizard World Austin Comic Con provides a well-rounded experience for families to enjoy together. Until this weekend I had never seen children attending a panel, yet there were several young kids in the Tailchaser's Song Animated Film Sneak Peek session on Sunday. The movie is an animated adaptation of Tad Williams' popular novel about a group of feral cats who journey through the treacherous world of humans and other animals.
Local producer Paul Alvarado-Dykstra and associate producer/writer Bethany Rhoades (pictured above) talked about how this project came to fruition and provided a "behind-the-scenes" look at the concept art of the film. Local animation artist and voice actor Samantha Inoue-Harte -- who was unable to attend due to illness -- brought in Animetropolis, which she co-owns with Alvarado-Dykstra.

It was back in November of 2011 that Twitch first caught wind of an animated adaptation of Tad Williams' fantasy novel Tailchaser's Song. Spearheaded by Us indie outfit Animetropolis and Japan's Ida (creators of the stellar Cat Shit One), the project has slowly been making its way through development and now we have word that Sam Worthington's Australia based Full Clip Productions has joined the effort while Rise Of The Guardians director Peter Ramsay has signed up as an executive producer. Oh ... and there's also now the first official poster art for the film, which you can see above. Check the full press release below. Cannes -- Friday, May 24, 2013 -- Animetropolis, Ida and Efg-Renascence Productions are pleased to unveil the producing team...

Ugh. Zombies. While they've not quite overtaken vampires as far as omnipresence in multiplexes go, the last decade has seen a proliferation of pictures featuring the undead, from "28 Days Later" to "Rec," and it shows no signs of letting up, with "The Walking Dead" proving a giant hit on cable, and both Jonathan Levine's zombie romance "Warm Bodies" and megabudget Brad Pitt vehicle "World War Z" due in 2013. Are we doomed to see the same old re-animated tropes over and over again until someone eats our brains? Or will someone be able to come up with a new take on the genre?
Well, Chloe Moretz and Paddy Considine certainly hope it's the latter, as the two actors are circling a project in the genre that looks like it might be able to bring a fresh spin: namely, "Maggie," a script from writer John Scott III that made the Black List a few years back.

Warner Bros has given A Better Life and Journey to the End of Night screenwriter Eric Eason the chance to take a whack at Ready Player One, which is based on the novel by Ernie Cline. The author himself has already written the screenplay –he wrote the cult film Fanboys- , but apparently the WB felt that Eason could polish the screenplay by giving it his unique perspective and experience with character driven stories would be the best fit for this concept driven film. The New England Patriots won last night, setting up a battle with the New York Giants, which in my world means that I get off the Atlantis cruise with Giants fan Travis Wall on Super Bowl Sunday in Patriots fan Dom Palange's home town. I wonder if I'm invited over for the game?
Best Week Ever has a post about the cutest players from this year's Puppy Bowl, which I should be home just in time to watch. Personally, I think that Abilene, the Australian Shepherd Mix should have been #1.
The Oklahoma legislature has taken up a bill to outlaw cannibalism in the state's food supply. In other news, tourism to Oklahoma just nosedived.
This is a pretty good article about why we're all so obsessed with Downton Abbey, though British readers will either take #2 as an insult or a badge of honor. Let me know which, but please note...

Warner Bros. is getting into the “Otherland” business, the series of sci-fi novels by author Tad Williams. The studio has tapped screenwriter John Scott III to adapt the first film and Dan Lin to produce. Published between 1996 and 2001, there are four entries in the book series, including “City of Golden Shadow,” “River of Blue Fire,” “Mountain of Black Glass” and “Sea of Silver Light.” Story for the adaptation is set 100 years in the future and follows a group of unexpected heroes who must escape an assassin and make their way through epic digital worlds to unravel a conspiracy that threatens to destroy humanity. Besides “Otherland”, Scott is also pounding away at Isaac Asivmov’s “Caves of Steel” for Fox. Like most writers who get work in Hollywood, Scott had one of his scripts show up on the Black List, the list of supposedly the “best” unproduced screenplays that everyone talks about.

Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has found another book series to take under their wing, the lucky winner this time around being Otherland. The Tad Williams-written sci-fi series is comprised of four books — City of Golden Shadow, River of Blue Fire, Mountain of Black Glass, and Sea of Silver Light — which John Scott III will adapt for producer Dan Lin.
Variety describes the story, set “100 years in the future,” as following “a group of unexpected heroes who must escape an assassin and make their way through epic digital worlds to unravel a conspiracy that threatens to destroy humanity.” Seanne Winslow Wehrenfennig will produce alongside Lin for Lin Pictures; no directors, stars, or even release timelines have been given out at the moment, and we’ll probably have to wait for things to advance a little more before those come in.
The basic idea behind it sounds very reminiscent...
