The vengeful spirit Eric Draven first appeared in James O'Barr's indie comic "The Crow" in 1989. He became a Goth household name in 1994 thanks to the popularity of Alex Proyas' ultra-stylized, uber-Noir film adaptation starring Brandon Lee, who was infamously killed on the set of "The Crow" thanks to a misfiring prop gun. The teens of 1994 venerated the film, and "The Crow" was deeply beloved by many. The film warranted several sequels, including "The Crow: City of Angels" in 1994, "The Crow: Salvation" in 2000, and "The Crow: Wicked Prayer" in 2005. O'Barr's characters were also featured in the 1998 TV series "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven."
Although O'Barr's Goth sensibilities were a product of their time, filmmakers and producers have been trying to get a "Crow" remake off the ground for a long while, and the project has changed hands almost a dozen times in the last 20 years. After a lot of juggling,...

Directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Bill Skarsgård, the reboot of the 1994 film, The Crow has become one of the hot topics of discussion. Based on James O’Barr’s comic book series of the same name, the film is the remake of the 1994 film, which featured Brandon Lee in the lead role. While the film was a box office hit and has since gained a cult following, the actor tragically lost his life during production due to a fatal incident involving a prop gun.

Criticism has been directed at the remake by original cast members and director Alex Proyas, who argue that it risks tarnishing Lee’s legacy. However, filmmaker Rupert Sanders has defended the project, asserting that it aims to pay tribute to Lee and expressing hope that the revival would do justice to his memory.

The remake of the 1994 movie, The Crow starring Bill Skarsgård is garnering major attention. While there’s still time for the movie to arrive on the big screen, original film director, Alex Proyas has recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming reboot which is far from positive.

Alex Proyas, who directed the original version of The Crow in 1994 is not a fan of the idea remaking the film, the new version of which will be released on June 7.
Proyas’ reservations, he says, stem not from some sense of proprietorship, but from fidelity to the original film’s star, Brandon Lee, who died when a gun malfunctioned during production.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work,” wrote Proyas in a post online. “And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. [‘The Crow’] is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy.

‘The Crow’ – Original Director Alex Proyas Elaborates Further on His Distate for the Upcoming Remake
The director of original classic The Crow, Alex Proyas (Dark City) has made no secret of the fact that he’s not a fan of what he’s seen from the remake so far. Proyas has made it clear over the years that he’s never been in favor of the original movie being remade – he wrote a heartfelt post on Facebook back in 2017 explaining why he feels a remake is disrespectful to the late Brandon Lee’s memory and legacy – and he’s very much sticking to that opinion.
Taking to Facebook this morning, Proyas elaborated a bit further on some of his recent posts slamming the new take on The Crow, calling back to his aforementioned comments from 2017.

The Crow, the forthcoming movie directed by Rupert Sanders, has been the talk of the town since its announcement in 2022. The action-thriller is a reimagining of the same-titled 1994 Alex Proyas film, featuring Brandon Lee in the lead role. With its top-notch cast and storytelling, the $94 million movie was a huge box-office success and struck a chord with the audience. Now the official trailer for Bill Skarsgård’s upcoming flick has further piqued the viewer’s interest.
However, some of the most disturbing information regarding the movie—which will hit theaters on June 7—has just recently come to light. In just one day, the trailer garnered a whopping 53,000 dislikes on YouTube, in contrast to just 42,000 likes. After more than 15 years of development hell, the reimagining of “The Crow” will finally hit theaters this summer.
“The Crow” is based on the indie comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr that was originally published back in 1989 by Caliber Press. 30 years ago in 1994, a film adaptation of the comic book by visionary director Alex Proyas was released into theaters, perhaps better known as the movie where star Brandon Lee was accidentally shot and killed on set during the middle of production.
Miramax stepped in and spent $8 million to pick up where production left off and finish the film. “The Crow” went on to gross $93.7 million at the box office against its $23 million budget, and the film eventually became a cult classic. Three lackluster sequels and a television adaptation would follow, however the property had always been earmarked for what current distributor Lionsgate is calling a reimagining.

FKA Twigs is speaking up about the long-lasting effects of abuse. The singer-songwriter said this week that “being abused changes the whole of your nervous system” when speaking about her allegations against former partner Shia Labeouf.

Barnett also spoke up about how her experience has continued to shape her life in real time. “I think naively I thought it would be like any other breakup, that I’d be sad for six months to a year,...

The trailer arrived with a new still of Bill Skarsgard as the titular character and the official theatrical poster.
Skarsgard (It‘s Pennywise the Clown) stars as Eric Draven, a character he says he was honored to take on.
“But really what drew me to it was what Rupert Sanders wanted to do with it. He wanted to completely reimagine the story and the character and tailor it towards a modern audience. It’s a character that I know many revere and have a strong connection to – he is unlike any I’ve ever taken on before,” explained Skarsgard. “Working with the remarkably talented FKA Twigs was magical.

The brand new The Crow trailer features ultra-violence and a lot of shirtless Bill Skarsgård. Take a peek.
Is this a safe space to admit that the first-look photos of Rupert Sanders’ The Crow remake/reboot/whatever we’re calling it, didn’t have me convinced? I wasn’t sure of the excessive, David Ayer’s Joker-esque make-up on Bill Skarsgård, and I was dreading the release of the first trailer because the 1994 film holds a special place in my heart.
Well, the first trailer for The Crow has now landed. Take a look at it below.
I don’t know about you but those worries of mine are gone now. The trailer looks phenomenal. And violent, but I’m okay with that.

“It’s not anger. It’s love.” Such is the ethos of “The Crow” — and the most memorable line in today’s first trailer for Rupert Sanders’ long-gestating remake of the 1994 cult drama of the same name.
This time around, it’s Bill Skarsgård bringing the iconic, love-driven baddie back to life. The breakout “It” star leads the new reimagining of the graphic novel that was infamously brought to the big screen in 1994. In that version, Bruce Lee’s son Brandon Lee played the lead role of Eric Draven, a man who comes back from the dead to take revenge on the man who murdered him and his fiancée. Lee was killed on set during the final days of production when a prop gun fired.

After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.
Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.
The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989. It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming. Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).
But the current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point.

The internet sure was riled up by those first images of Bill Skarsgård (It) as Eric Draven in Lionsgate’s remake of The Crow a couple weeks back, with even the original movie’s director (Alex Proyas) chiming in and taking a jab at Draven’s “bad hair day.” But it’s not fair to judge movies based solely on a couple of random images. Popularly known for portraying Pennywise in the horror film franchise It, Bill Skarsgård is set to star in the remake of the 1994 supernatural superhero film The Crow. Directed by Alex Proyas, the original film featured Brandon Lee in the lead role of Eric Draven. Following its success several other actors have since portrayed different versions of The Crow in subsequent sequels. One of this week’s biggest news stories was the reveal of several first look images from The Crow, Lionsgate’s fresh new reboot of the 1990s classic starring Bill Skarsgård (It) as Eric Draven/The Crow. Those very first images put the spotlight on Skarsgård’s Draven and FKA Twigs’ Shelly Webster, promising a very different version of the material.
What does original The Crow director Alex Proyas (Dark City) think of the new movie?
Alex Proyas has made it pretty clear over the years that he’s never been in favor of the original movie being remade – he wrote a heartfelt post on Facebook back in 2017 explaining why he feels a remake is disrespectful to the late Brandon Lee’s memory and legacy – and it seems he hasn’t softened much on that general stance in more recent years.

If it feels like a new take on The Crow has been in development for 15 years, that's perhaps because a new take on The Crow has been in development for, well, 15 years at least. Yet after a revolving door of directors, writers and potential leads, it's finally headed our way this year, with Bill Skarsgård playing the tragic Eric Draven and Rupert Sanders directing. Check out the first images from the new adaptation of James O'Barr's graphic novel above and below.

The exclusive first look at Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven / The Crow in the eponymous supernatural superhero film has been unveiled, and the similarities of his get-up to that of a separate live-action iteration of another comic-book character haven’t gone unnoticed. After years of finding its way through development limbo, The Crow (2024) is set to be a reboot.

Helmed by Rupert Sanders and starring singer-songwriter FKA Twigs alongside Skarsgård, fans have long wondered if this modern-day big-screen rendition of the character will live up to Brandon Lee’s 1994 film, which was a cult classic and remained largely unrivaled by the three other films that followed it.
The first few reactions to the latest unveiling have suggested that Skarsgård’s metamorphosis into the anti-hero parallels Jared Leto’s Joker in the catastrophic Suicide Squad (2016). The resemblance is quite uncanny.

Ballerina is departing 2024, with the John Wick spinoff now opening June 6, 2025. In a twinned move, The Crow will fly into Ballerina‘s previous date of June 7, 2024.
The year-long delay for Ballerina is sure to turn heads, but Lionsgate insiders say it is because the film will be filming additional action sequences under the guiding hand of director Chad Stahelski, the mastermind behind the John Wick franchise. He will be working closely with Ballerina director Len Wiseman on the sequences. The studio feels that because its upcoming The Crow film is ready for theaters, it does not need to rush Ballerina into cinemas if they can make it better.
Ballerina stars Ana de Armas star as an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma. The film also stars Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, with Ian McShane and Wick lead Keanu Reeves also among the cast.

If there was ever a filmmaker who embodies a Dgaf attitude, it’s undoubtedly Bronx-born filmmaker Abel Ferrara. Having moved to Italy years ago, the filmmaker seems to have totally abandoned Hollywood but keeps on trucking unbowed nonetheless, doing whatever the F he wants. FKA twigs has spilled some details about her new album in a recent conversation with fans on her Discord server, as DJ Mag points out. In addition to confirming that it’s “coming out this year,” the British artist revealed the project is techno in “spirit.”
During the chat, FKA twigs said she was celebrating her 36th birthday by working on the album in the studio with her frequent collaborator, electronic musician Koreless. “I moved to Prague a couple summers ago, fell in love with techno. The album isn’t techno but the spirit is there fr,” she said, about its inspiration.
FKA twigs added that she “mainly” worked with Koreless on the album, along with some other “talented friends,” but plans to scale back on guest appearances compared to her “collab heavy” 2022 mixtape Caprisongs. She also noted the project is “deep but not sad” because “I’m not sad anymore.
