"District 9" star Sharlto Copley and former "Star Trek: The Next Generation" regular and "The Killing" star Michelle Forbes have scored the lead roles in the long-gestating TV series adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis' comic "Powers" for the PlayStation Network.
Copley plays Christian Walker, a cop with darkness and violence at his surface but with a sense of buried integrity. Walker works in the Powers division of the police force and deals with crimes involving those endowed with special abilities. The character once had powers but lost them in a battle with a super-human mass killer.
Forbes plays Retro Girl, the undisputed super star of the Powers community who is an icon of justice, selflessness and business acumen. Her willingness to put herself at risk for the good of others is matched only by her ability to manage her globe-spanning personal brand. Carly Foulkes took on the character in the FX pilot.

Two key parts in PlayStation’s first original series have been filled. The comic-book-based superhero saga Powers has cast its lead roles: Christian Walker and fan favorite Retro Girl.
Walker will be played by Sharloto Copley (District 9, Maleficent), while Michelle Forbes (The Killing, Chicago Fire) is Retro Girl (pics below).
Walker is described as “dapper and charismatic” with “the dissolute air of a faded rock star and the body of a battered heavyweight. Once possessed of super-powers, Walker lost his powers in a battle with a super-human mass killer. A faded hero, he’s now a detective who works with law enforcement,...

The current status for a TV pilot for Powers at FX. Oeming: I've read the new scripts by Charlie Huston, and he really has captured the voice of "Powers." The pilot we filmed was really good, but these new scripts are already closer to "Powers." One of the best parts of working on the show has been being able to look much closer at "Powers," nuances we normally wouldn't inspect in the comic, and then bringing that new knowledge back into the series. The experience has really refreshed the book. "Powers" fans are in for a treat. Seems like Powers has been "coming" to the small screen for quite some time now. First teased by Bendis way back in 2009, the series didn't receive a pilot order until 2011. For the initial pilot, the cast consisted of Charles S. Dutton, Bailee Madison, Lucy Punch, Jason Patric, Carly Foulkes, Alona Tal, Titus...

For fans of Brian Michael Bendis’ critically acclaimed comic book, news on the development for Powers can’t come soon enough. It’s been in the works with FX for quite awhile, but today, according to Bendis’ tumblr, we got an update. The man himself writes:
based on the pilot the network ordered a handful of new scripts for new episodes and the writers should be handing them in soon. its slow and steady but we are still alive.
Thanks to SuperheroHype, we also got an update from the show’s writer and producer, Charles Eglee: “Unfortunately, the announcement of Thief Of Thieves this last week was interpreted by a lot of people that that somehow put Powers in limbo, and that’s not the case at all. We’re actively moving forward with Powers.”

You might remember that Powers, the comic book by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, was being adapted into a television pilot for FX, the basic cable network that specializes in edgy original programming. Well, the project has hit a few snags recently.
Last November, it was announced that FX was not happy with the pilot and had decided to retool and reshoot it. At that time, Bendis was pretty upbeat about the situation, saying, "[That FX is] spending more [money] on Powers is good. They did the same to the Sons of Anarchy pilot. FX sees pilots [differently] than [regular broadcast] networks . . . The pilot was crazy expensive and very lovely and shows incredible potential for a long series . . . The reshoots are planned for January and are all about tone and clarity. I am very proud of the pilot, as is [Oeming]."

Let me start by saying that lots of shows get retooled after their pilots have been shown to executives, so it's not the end of the line for FX's Powers. Although, it's not good news either. The pilot is used as a test to determine if the show should be picked up, and how many episodes to order. And when a retooling of a show is required that means some or all of the cast could be out the door. Or, it could be as simple as adding a character to change the dynamic of the show. As of right now the show has Jason Patric (Lost Boys)as the lead playing Detective Christian Walker. Playing the role of Walker’s new partner, Deena Pilgrim, is Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher, Dinner for Schmucks). And the girl in the pink dress in those T-Mobile commercials, Carly Foulkes, is playing the superhero,...

Powers creator Brian Michael Bendis tweeted a link to this first view of Jason Patric as Det. Christian Walker, the lead character in the Powers pilot. They had been shooting in Chicago since in mid-July, and recently wrapped the location work which is said to figure prominently in the show.
The Chicago Sun-Times also got some illuminating information from executive producer and writer Charles Eglee (the Walking Dead):
“Powers,” says Eglee, “is a mashup of genres — like, if you took ‘Se7en’ and smushed it with ‘The Dark Knight.’ ”
Eglee says the pilot, which will air around June 2012 if the full series is ordered, deconstructs superheroes and the super-crime drama.
“For me it was about creating some interesting characters in a law enforcement context, and it just so happens that the bad guys they’re fighting have abilities that regular people don’t have,” he said. “I just look at...

The Chicago Sun-Times (via Cbm) has your first look at former “Speed 2″ guy Jason Patric as Christian Walker in the FX Channel’s new superhero TV show “Powers”, due out June 2012. If the network likes what they see from the pilot that was just shot, you can expect a series greenlight. If not? Well, remember what happened to David E. Kelley’s “Wonder Woman”? The show recently shot its pilot episode in Chicago, and stars Patric and Lucy Punch (“Bad Teacher”) as his partner, Deena Pilgrim, cops in a world where superpowers are a common thing. It’s Pilgrim and Walker’s job to investigate homicides involving these superpowered freaks. Walker, by the way, used to have powers himself. The show co-stars Charles S. Dutton, Carly Foulkes (the T-Mobile girl), and Bailee Madison (“Don’t be Afraid of the Dark”), along with Vinnie Jones and “Supernatural” alum Alona Tal...

The pilot for “Powers” started filming in Chicago almost a month ago, but shockingly, we’ve heard relatively little about the FX production. But now, about a week after filming has wrapped, we’ve received our first look at “The Losers” star Jason Patric as the series’ leading man.
Patric plays superpowered police detective Christian Walker, one of the two leads in Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s ongoing comic series, “Powers.” Though Patric lacks imposing upper body Oeming imbued the character with in the comics, the actor has the costume and furrowed brow of Christian Walker pretty much down pat.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, the Windy City plays a prominent role in the new series. “Chicago was chosen early on as a location where the shows’ supernatural aspects could be grounded,” the paper asserted.

According to Adam Baldwin, “Casey has either met his match, or his love match,” as TVLine brings word that Carrie-Anne Moss (the Matrix trilogy) joins the NBC spy-thriller-comedy, Chuck.
Moss, who recently starred in the Lifetime drama pilot, Normal, is joining the gang as Gertrude Verbanski, a former spy that runs Verbanski Corp., which happens to be the chief rival of Chuck and Sarah’s company. Gertrude is “ruthless and deadly,” but her one vulnerable spot is Casey (Baldwin).
The love interest/foil will be making her appearance in a multi-episode arc in the upcoming fifth and final season of Chuck, along with Craig Kilborn and Mark Hamill, who will be spicing up the season premiere as a couple of new bad guys.

If you want to add a little extra pizzazz to your production just hire Titus Welliver, which is exactly what FX did for their Powers pilot. AOL TV confirmed Welliver was cast as someone called Triphammer, a role which could become recurring if the pilot is picked up for series. Triphammer is described as a “genius and a narcissist” which Welliver could pull off in his sleep. He’s of the inventing type, responsible for developing a weapon that can neutralize the abilities of people with superpowers.
Welliver is a man in demand. He has worked on many different productions like Deadwood, Supernatural, Lost and Sons of Anarchy and always shows his versatility. He’s a terrific actor with a commanding on screen presence. He makes you feel like it’s all about him, even if he’s just a supporting character. So like I said, he could pull off narcissism in his sleep.

When is James Mangold's The Wolverine going to start shooting? Why are comic book fans organizing a massive protest at San Diego Comic Con? Is there real evidence that The Dark Knight Rises is going to suck? Will we see a sequel to Red? And what Marvel character could be getting his own world at Disney? Read about all this and more in today's Superhero Bits. Speaking to Chfi radio station (via The Playlist [1]) Hugh Jackman let it slip that James Mangold's The Wolverine will start shooting in October for a 2012 release. That's certainly exciting. That hilarious drawing from I Love Charts [2] speaks for itself. Though, I think we can all agree that Batman & Robin was worse than Batman Forever, screwing up the cowl symmetry. Comic Book Movie [3] was alerted to a growing Facebook group of fans who plan to march on San Diego Comic Con in protest of the DC Universe reboot.

The cast of FX’s Powers is fast coming together. Jason Patric and Lucy Punch were cast as Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim respectively, two detectives who work exclusively on cases involving “powers”, people who have superpowers. Now we have news that the series has found its Retro Girl in Miss Carly Foulkes. Now if that name doesn’t ring a bell, don’t be surprised, but rest assured you’ve probably seen her act before. The Canadian model and actress is perhaps only known for her appearance in those T-Mobile ads, in which she wears a pink and white dress, although she has appeared on the cover of Elle magazine. And yeah, she’s pretty cute.

Casting has commenced on the television adaptation of Powers, the comic book by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. I'm ultra-excited about this TV series — Powers is probably my favorite ongoing comic — but I must admit I'm less enthusiastic about some of the casting choices.
Powers is about two detectives working the superhero beat. Detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim catch all the cases involving "powers," which have been outlawed by the government. The actors chosen to play Walker and Pilgrim are Jason Patric and Lucy Punch. Also on board is Charles S. Dutton as the precinct captain.
The first arc of the comic involved the murder of a popular superheroine called Retro Girl, whom Bendis has described as "the Princess Di of the powers world," and it appears the series is going to start this way as well — recently cast as Retro Girl is actress Carly Foulkes, better...

If you have a TV and you spend any amount of time watching live programming on said TV, or if you're psychotic and don't fast forward through commercials on your DVR, then there is a better than bad chance that you know who Carly Foulkes is. Could Tony Soprano be the next Michael Scott?
That’s perhaps what the folks over at NBC were hoping when they recently met with The Office fan James Gandolfini. Alas, Variety hears that unfortuantely (or not?) the former HBO mob boss just wasn’t interested in joining Dunder Mifflin’s ranks on a full-time basis. Of course, James Spader is now the front-runner to come aboard the sitcom in the wake of Steve Carell’s exit.
