Since SomethingPitchy host Andy Scott got called out yesterday for his red cheeks during his Tim Urban interview, it's fitting that Sp correspondent Gaby Dunn's flustered face is exposed today.
The 'American Idol' experts went backstage with the season 9 Idols at the Newark 'Idols Live' tour last week and filmed interviews with the Top 10.
First up today, Gaby was charmed by the country etiquette of 17-year-old Aaron Kelly. The two talked dental hygiene and tried to write a country song together. (Key word: Tried.)

Aaron Kelly has said that doing the 'American Idol Experience' at Walt Disney World Resort was a "good way to get a feel for the competition". The 17-year-old singer, who was voted off the Fox show this week, scooped the right to go to the top of the audition line in Orlando after winning a golden ticket at the theme park attraction last year. Speaking after his exit, he said: "You go through a set of auditions, and then the audience actually votes you through. "They had two different shows that day, and the first is where the audience puts you through. At the end of the day - they have a lot of shows - they pick one person from each show that day to go through to the finale, and at the finale the audience votes you through." He added: "The gold ticket from that puts you (more...

Casey James put on such an awkward performance on Tuesday night that he publicly admitted he should go home.
Instead, Kara's former crush didn't even land in the bottom two this week. That dishonor befell Michael Lynche and Aaron Kelly instead.
When all the votes were counted, Kelly's name was finally called. Upon the elimination, the 16-year old simply said: "I've had a blast."
As for the evening's performances, Lady Gaga whipped out "Alejandro" and was her usual, eccentric, entertaining self. Harry Connick Jr. also sang a cover of the Beatles' "And I Love Her," off of his new album.
Finally, the top five regrouped for an anticlimactic medley of Connick's music. No matter how hard they try, these numbers never come across as anything but forced and cheesy.
But back to Aaron: Were you happy with his elimination? Can you believe Lynche was stuck in the bottom pair? Sound off now!

Lady Gaga is many things, and everyone can agree on at least one: She never bores. Gaga's "Alejandro" brought the house down, and the ghosts of Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack amassed on stage ready to chuck Casey James, but America voted and saved the golden boy for yet another week. Sadly Aaron Kelly was sent home on 'American Idol.' His voice is so clean and pure, the kid is 17! I am amazed at his poise and bowled over by his talent. Whoever did the wardrobe, makeup and hair for Crystal Bowersox this week needs to win an Emmy for excellence in their respective crafts. So Americans voted, and Big Michael Lynche, Casey James and Aaron Kelly were...

Somewhere, "High School Student" Aaron Kelly is doing a happy dance. That's because the Top 6 have been tasked with singing the songs of Shania Twain, a theme that should be near and dear to the country crooners heart.
Shania, who has already made an appearance as a guest judge this season, will return as a mentor and the source of songs for the Top 6. As a mentor, we hope that Shania brings the same level-headed expertise and wry sense of humor that made her our favorite guest judge of the audition.

Wednesday evening's "Idol Gives Back" special raised millions for charity, featured a host of star cameos, and marked the end of the line for one of the week's bottom three: Casey James, Aaron Kelly and Tim Urban. Find out who got the boot! Tim Urban was sent packing after he failed to inspire enough votes with his omnipresent smile and previous night's performance of "Better Days" by the Goo Goo Dolls. Famous faces that appeared on the special -- which has raised $15 million so far, according to Simon Cowell -- included President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, Jim Carrey, Morgan Freeman, Ben Affleck, David Arquette, Bill and Melinda Gates, Queen Latifah, Russell Brand, Jonah Hill, Wanda Sykes and George Lopez, who roasted the judges. The show also featured musical performances from Elton John, The Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys, Annie Lennox, Carrie Underwood, Mary J. Blige, Jeff Beck,...

Both Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens will be going home. They did not get the votes needed to stay in the competition. After his dismissal at the beginning of the show Andrew said “I’m glad I’ve been through what I’ve been through.”
However, Katie had to wait until the end of the show to find out about her fate.
The other finalists remaining in the competition are Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze, Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus, Casey James, and Tim Urban.

The people have spoken: Michael Lynche is not their "American Idol." However, the judges don't think so. Using their only save, Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi, Randy Jackson, and Ellen DeGeneres chose to save Big Mike from elimination on Wednesday's show.
The 26-year-old personal trainer was at the bottom three with Andrew Garcia and Aaron Kelly. But when it was announced that he received the lowers number of votes and when the audience chanted his name after he performed, the judges clearly felt they had to do something.
While his "Eleonor Rigby" didn't exactly scream brilliant performance on Tuesday, Lynche was one of the few contestants this season that is consistently favored by the judges.
The judges' save can only be used once so Lynch was very lucky, indeed.

Nothing makes sense anymore after watching the results show from Fox "American Idol." The bottom three included Aaron Kelly, Andrew Garcia and Michael .Big Mike. Lynche as the finalists performed Beatles songs this week. And as the laggards winnowed down to two, even Andrew Garcia looked shocked when Ryan told him he was safe. Lynche performed the Kate Bush weeper "This Woman' Work" in a bid to save his life, and as he sang and the camera panned wide, you could see the judges frantically lobbying each other to save Mike, as the energy behind them seemed to demand it. Lynche's wife was bowled over by the shock of the news and was distraught. It made me...

It was Lennon & McCartney night and not only did the kids pretty much rise to the occasion, no one sang "Imagine"! How many times have we heard that song trampled? I am a little disappointed no one did " Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey" and "I Am the Walrus" (I would have loved hearing Kara scold Katie Stevens for not making the lyric "yellow matter custard/dripping from a dead dog's eye" her own) but all in all a solid night. And what would a Beatles song be like without a didgeridoo or the bagpipes? Both were employed last night. I worry that this trend to be original and surprising will escalate to where Crystal is playing a musical saw with her teeth and Lee is accompanying himself on the Exedrin Thumb Piano. Aaron Kelly kicked...

When natty nice guy Ryan Seacrest foolishly asks Simon to bestow a bit of wisdom to teen Aaron Kelly on how to sing about love without ever having experienced love—like he would know—things devolve into a snap-laden bitchfest. Thank God peacemaker Randy is on hand to make things clear. When you're singing "Ain't No Sunshine"—a song about the devastating pain a man feels when his woman has flown the coop—substitute the missing object of your overwhelming passion. With your parents. Unfortunately, he neglected to offer the number of a good therapist.

Highlights, song choices and judges input from tonight's Top Ten Idol Guy Performances:
Michael Lynche--"This is a Man's World" (James Brown)--Rave reviews from all judges; Randy gave him a standing ovation. Simon said 'completely different from last week'. (Sure kept my attention!)
John Park-----"Gravity" (John Mayer)---Randy says it wasn't special with a few pitch problems. Ellen and Kara agree it was better than last week, but needed soul and connection to the audience. Simon says he thinks John will be returning to his own band this week. (Pretty forgettable.)
Casey James----"I Don't Wanna Be" (Gavin Degraw)---Randy praised his guitar playing, saying he was channeling Hendrix. Ellen says she wants to see him perform more. (??) Kara says Casey took two steps backwards for her and his singing wasn't distinct or on key. Simon says he was trying to be a rock star and agrees...

It was the moment of truth for the Hollywood Week contestants on "American Idol." On Wednesday night, dreams were fulfilled, while others were slashed, as Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi, Randy Jackson, and Ellen DeGeneres announced the final 24 contestants. Janell Wheeler, 24, from Tampa, Fl was elated that she will progress to the show’s next round. She burst out of the theater doors to Ryan Seacrest and pronounced, "If I was Bikini Girl, I'd kiss you right now." Not everyone was a rookie auditioner. Lacey Brown, 24, returned after not making it through last year. She impressed the judges with her rendition of "What a Wonderful World," which offered as background vocals for a montage of other contestants receiving good news. Unfortunately, not all veterans to the "Idol" stage were so lucky. Angela Martin met a disappointing fate for the third time. The mother of a special needs daughter had to pull...

Aaron Kelly might not have much stage persona during his American Idol audition, but lucky for him he did have a good story.
Aaron was adopted as a young child by his aunt and uncle, after social services threatened to remove him from his parents. He is a 16-year-old country singer who qualified to audition this year by winning the “American Idol Experience” at DisneyWorld.
He sang a solid version of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb.” But keeping his eyes closed throughout the song didn’t help him connect with his audience. Simon Cowell told him that he had made a good song choice and the mums would like him. He sailed right through to Hollywood!

On Wednesday night, the endless parade of costumed wannabes and ham-fisted sob stories came to an end as "American Idol" aired its final audition episode of the season. By my count, season nine has yielded two divorces, 26 foster families, two syndromes (Tourette's and Downs), one Alzheimer's, two cancer survivors, one Austistic child, one paralyzed face and a reformed bank robber, yet only one true breakout star: "Pants on the Ground" sensation General Larry Platt. And that dude isn't even eligible for the competition!
Gee, "Idol" producers, you think it's time to revamp these audition episodes?
Thankfully, Wednesday night's final helping — a hodgepodge of leftover tryouts from every city they visited — was packed with talented singers, some of whom I could even imagine at the Kodak Theater, singing a song about obstacles, fortitude and earthquakes.

On the final night of American Idol auditions before Hollywood Week begins, we met young Aaron Kelly. You'd be smart to remember that name, because you're going to be hearing it a lot over the next few months.
The sweet 16-year-old Aaron is the perfect contestant coming in at the perfect time, and I feel confident that he'll get very far in this competition, with a strong possibility of winning the whole thing. How can I be so sure Aaron Kelly is American Idol material? All you need to do is look at the facts.

Thousands of hopefuls. Hundreds of songs. Seven cities. Four excruciating weeks. A dude in a two-piece bikini. One pair of pants on the ground. On Wednesday, "American Idol" wrapped up the auditions for its ninth season, and judging by the numbers — or, really, any other quantifier — it was a pretty interesting ride.
From the news that Simon Cowell would be leaving the show at season's end, to the spate of celebrity judges lined up by show producers (Neil Patrick Harris, we love you), "Idol" generated more than a few headlines, and in the auditioners rolled out for our viewing, uncovered some genuine diamonds in the rough.
Of course, producers also shined a spotlight on some lumps of coal too (we're looking at you,...

With Hollywood week finally on the horizon, it's time to start predicting who's going to go the distance on American Idol. So we're going to throw our proverbial money on the continued success of this little guy, 16-year-old Aaron Kelly from Pennsylvania, whose wide-eyed precociousness reminds us of another teen who stole the Idol spotlight two years ago. But Aaron doesn't yet appear to have that prepackaged quality which David Archuleta had, does he? What Aaron does have is the tween-friendly looks, the unassuming style, the good taste in music (auditioning with Miley Cyrus' "The Climb"? "American Idol's" Hollywood Week is essentially over -- which means the Top 24 has been chosen. Do not keep reading if you don't want to be spoiled because most names have leaked.
Between Joe's Place blog, Vote for the Worst and Mj's Big Blog, it seems there are 20 of the Top 24 out there already, all of the boys and eight of the girls. We've only seen a few of the Top 24 so far, but the ones we have seen have their audition city after their names (Ben Honeycutt we may not have actually seen in Atlanta, but that's where he auditioned).
