Warner Bros has pushed Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II starring Robert Pattinson back a year from October 3, 2025, to October 2, 2026, and set Paul Thomas Anderson’s crime tale starring Leonard DiCaprio for August 8, 2025.
It is understood the date change for The Batman Part II stems from the Hollywood strikes, which halted and severely disrupted studio production for close to six months last year.
The sequel to Reeves’ 2022 $772.2m global hit steers clear of DC Studios co-head James Gunn’s Superman on July 11, 2025, which will be the first film on release from the restructured division.

The Batman Part II is flying off to a new date. The film will now open Oct. 2, 2026. That’s back a full year from its previous date.
Batman 2 wasn’t the only notable change made to Warner Bros. release calendar on Tuesday: The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed The Bride!, starring Christian Bale, will take Batman 2‘s old date of Oct. 3, 2025; Barry Levinson’s gangster pic Alto Nights is being delayed from Nov. 24, 2024, to March 21, 2025; and Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled, star-studded event pic has landed an Aug. 8, 2025, release date. All of the titles will be offered in Imax.
The sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. In August of that year, Mattson Tomlin boarded to co-write with Reeves, and in late January 2023, DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran gave the film a title and date of Oct. 3, 2025. Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 is no longer opening on October 3, 2025 — a new launchpad for comic book movies. Instead, it is going a year later on October, 2, 2026. We hear the new date is due to the aftermath of the dual strikes.
The spacing also will give some distance from James Gunn’s Superman, which is hitting cinemas on July 11, 2025. That film will kick off Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Studios, the first phase titled “Gods and Monsters.”
Reeves’ Batman is not part of the Gunn universe, but it’s all kosher to co-exist. Gunn has another Batman movie in the works, Batman: Brave and the Bold, with Andy Muschietti directing. Robert Pattinson plays Batman in Reeves’ universe. The role will be recast for Muschietti’s film.

The Israeli government has introduced a new film and TV tax rebate said to be worth around 45 million shekels (13 million) over two years.
The rebate, which was introduced via a government directive, is worth around 23 million shekels (6.7 million) in the first year, and 22 million (6.4 million) the second year.
After two years it will need to be reviewed and renewed.
It is valid for films or series (including documentary projects) with an investment between 500,000 shekels and 16,600,000 (4.8 million).
Applications must be made through an Israeli production company and applications will be considered by a committee.
Over the last decade or so Israel’s homegrown film and television has exploded internationally, from shows such as “Homeland” and “In Treatment” – adapted from Israeli series “Hatufim” and “BeTipul” respectively – to series such as “Fauda” and “Shtisel.”

Welcome to Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. shaking up the offshore marketplace. This week, we’re talking with British multi-hyphenate Charles Dorfman, who, through his two banners Samuel Marshall Films and Media Finance Capital, has worked across a range of titles from The Lost Daughter to 2nd Chance and his own directorial debut Barbarians. In his first major interview, he outlines his ambitions as a writer-director and as a financier-producer.

When Maggie Gyllenhaal picked up the phone to talk her about her Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay for the writer/director’s debut film, The Lost Daughter. She wasn’t going to celebrated at first, but soon gave in.
“I drank a lot of champagne already today!”
The film came together because the producing partners Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman-Keren (also producers with Gyllenhaal on The Kindergarten Teacher), the idea arose that Gyllenhaal herself should direct a project. Securing the rights to Elena Ferrante’s novel, The Lost Daughter. The film stars Olivia Coleman and Jessie Buckley, both who have been nominated in the best and best supporting actress categories this year.

A few years back, when Maggie Gyllenhaal was making The Kindergarten Teacher with Pie Films’ producing partners Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman-Keren, the idea arose that Gyllenhaal herself should direct a project. Securing the rights to Elena Ferrante’s novel, The Lost Daughter, Gyllenhaal re-teamed with Pie Films, crafted her first feature script and cast Olivia Colman as Leda, a middle-aged woman whose past haunts her when she meets a young woman on vacation. Amid a Covid-driven location switch to Greece and quarantine with her film-family, Gyllenhaal crafted a feature filled with eviscerating but necessary truths about motherhood and all its complexity.

Olivia Colman is captivating in the first trailer for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut, “The Lost Daughter.”
The upcoming drama, based on Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name, stars Colman as Leda, a middle-aged woman vacationing alone and having flashbacks to her days as a young wife and mother (with her younger self played by Jessie Buckley). Gyllenhaal wrote, directed and produced the movie.
In the trailer, Colman, whose character is on a “working holiday,” meets Dakota Johnson’s Nina, telling her she has two daughters of her own. She soon tells the young mother that “children are a crushing responsibility.”
The trailer also gives audiences a glimpse at Buckley, but if anything, it teases the captivating performance Colman delivers that will surely land her in the awards conversation as the race for best actress heats up.

Netflix has picked up Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut “The Lost Daughter” for additional territories, snapping up U.K., Benelux and German rights to the Venice-premiering feature.
The streaming service struck the deal with Entertainment One, which had previously secured the rights for these markets from Endeavor Content. The platform already held the majority of worldwide rights, and will launch the movie on Dec. 31. The film will be in select theaters in the U.K., U.S. and other markets on Dec. 17.
The film, which picked up the Best Screenplay award for Gyllenhaal out of Venice, was adapted from the 2006 novel by author Elena Ferrante. It stars Olivia Colman as a woman on holiday in Greece coming to terms with her rocky early relationship with her young daughters, evoking a theme of “unnatural motherhood” that will resonate with fans of Ferrante’s other works, namely “My Brilliant Friend” and the Neapolitan quartet of novels.

The Lost Daughter, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut, is “a searing portrait of parenthood, about womanhood, but about so much more than that,” says producing partner Endeavor Content’s Negeen Yazdi, senior vice president of film development and production.
Searing is right. The film, adapted by Gyllenhaal from Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name, follows the middle-aged Leda (Olivia Colman) as her solo vacation takes a turn following an encounter with Nina (Dakota Johnson), a young mother whose struggles remind Leda of her own traumatic experience of motherhood. Startling honest and gratifyingly raw, the depiction via flashback of the younger Leda (Jessie Buckley)’s experience raising her daughters explores issues rarely seen on screen, much less discussed.
“It’s so uncompromising and bold in terms of what it’s saying,” Yazdi says. “And I remember Maggie has always said, it really hit her when she read Elena Ferrante...
