Ewan McGregor has joined the cast of Madonna’s W.E. biopic about Wallis Simpson, the woman Edward VIII abdicated the British throne for. He’ll play the monarch in question. No word on whether there’s a reason for nudity on the part of the monarch, but it’s Ewan, so odds are good.

Two shows were out of the mix again last week, Fringe and Dollhouse, both of which will be absent this coming week as well.
Meanwhile, for the shows that did air first-run episodes this past week, the spotlight was on Thursday, which was a bit disappointing for ratings. Fox's airing of the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies dominated the airwaves, garnering a 10.6/17 share, according to Fast National ratings from The Nielsen Co. By comparison, even the reality juggernaut Survivor couldn't compete with America's favorite pastime, returning a 7.1/11 for its Survivor: Samoa iteration.
Both, however, finished well ahead of FlashForward, which is settling back down a bit. The ABC skein earned a 5.7 rating/9 share, matching the all time low it had back on Oct. 15. That's an eight percent drop from the previous week, and nine-and-a-half percent below its season average so far.

You know you've arrived when your name becomes a verb. But this is probably not the kind of fame Kanye West was looking for. Even though he was nowhere to be seen at Sunday night's Emmy Awards, 'Ye was on many people's lips as the phrase "pull a Kanye West" became the go-to shorthand for rude awards-show behavior.
Host Neil Patrick Harris whipped it out just a few minutes into the three-hour broadcast, quipping, "All right, it's my job to keep things moving tonight. I'm here to ensure everything runs smoothly. Here's hoping Kanye West likes '30 Rock.' "
The reference, of course, was to West's bum-rush of Taylor Swift at last weekend's VMAs, which has very quickly become an online punching bag and super-meme, as well as another badge of dishonor for the very "passionate" rapper.

Hey, remember the Emmys last year when five different reality show hosts tackled the duties of hosting the show? Yeah, me either. Dismal ratings required a change of course, and this year the Emmys were…dare I say it…entertaining! Thanks in large part to Neil Patrick Harris’s impeccable charm and wit, the 2009 Emmy Awards were enjoyable start to finish.
A dapper Neil Patrick Harris (let’s call him Nph for brevity’s sake) was the perfect host. He started off the show with a musical number that was not awful, and kept the show going at a steady clip throughout the night. His performance garnered accolades from Ricky Gervais and John Stewart, along with millions of us watching at home. A few highlights from the evening:

Tina Fey's 30 Rock and hit U.S. TV series Mad Men stole the show at the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, receiving top honours at Sunday's event.
30 Rock creator Fey and co-stars Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan claimed their third consecutive trophy for Outstanding Comedy Series, while Mad Men was a repeat winner for Outstanding Drama Series.
Fey's series was an Emmy favourite, landing a whopping 22 nominations in 2009 after stealing the show at last year's ceremony.
Baldwin defended his title as the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy, although Fey failed to secure a second win for Outstanding Lead Actress after United States Of Tara's Toni Collette took home the prize.
The funnywoman later redeemed herself after 30 Rock beat out Entourage, Family Guy, Flight of the Conchords, How I Met Your Mother and The Office to reclaim the prize for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Thanking her patient cast and crew, Fey said: "That was a real nail biter... I want to thank the family and loved ones of all the people who work on the show... for almost four years now."
Another repeat winner, actress Glenn Close, claimed victory for her lead role on TV drama Damages for the second year running.
Meanwhile, veteran actress Jessica Lange was gracious after her name was called for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her role in TV movie Grey Gardens.
The 60 year old praised co-star Drew Barrymore for helping to reignite her career: "This part was a gift and they don't come around that often for me anymore... and above all (I thank) the other half, Drew Barrymore, for her extraordinary talent, for her brilliance, for her determination."
The spectacular ceremony, held at Los Angeles' Nokia Theater, also featured a performance from Sarah McLachlan, who paid tribute to recently deceased entertainers with a rendition of her ballad I Will Remember You.
This year's show was hosted by How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris, who opened with a song and dance number. Harris ended his musical routine with a light-hearted jab at MTV Video Music Award stage invader Kanye West, warning nominees to keep an eye on celebrities looking to crash their acceptance speeches.
Harris joked, "Here's hoping Kanye West likes 30 Rock."

In a night of fun but few surprises, "30 Rock" and "Mad Men" were named TV's top comedy and drama, respectively, at the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night -- and "The Insider" was there! Click Here for a complete list of winners. "Mad Men" trumped "Big Love," "Breaking Bad," "Damages," "Lost," "House" and "Dexter," and in accepting the Emmy, show creator Matthew Weiner told the audience, "we worked very hard not to have it stink in the second year," adding, "it is an amazing time to work in TV." "30 Rock" won Outstanding Comedy Series, besting "Family Guy," "How I Met Your Mother," "Weeds," "Flight of the Conchords" "Entourage" and "The Office." "Whew! That was a nailbiter," joked Tina Fey as she accepted on behalf of the cast and crew and thanked their families for putting up with their busy work schedule. "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston...

30 Rock star Alec Baldwin defended his title as the Outstanding Lead Comedy Actor at the 2009 Emmys for the second year running on Sunday - but his co-star Tina Fey was defeated in her bid to reclaim her Lead Actress prize.
The pair stole the show at last year's ceremony, scooping the top male and female honours in the comedy series categories, and hoped to repeat their success after landing a whopping 22 nods this year.
And Baldwin was delighted after he was declared the winner for the second time, accepting the trophy over Brothers & Sisters favourite Rob Lowe.
Taking the stage, the star joked, "I'll be honest with you. I'd trade this to look like him."
But United States Of Tara's Toni Collette was later named Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, depriving 30 Rock creator Fey of her second consecutive award in the category.
Collette beamed: "Wow, this is insanely confronting."
Fey redeemed herself moments later as she graced the stage to acknowledge her Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress on hit sketch show Saturday Night Live. That win was first announced at the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys ceremony last week.
She and her co-stars Baldwin and Tracy Morgan still have a chance to compete for Emmy gold in categories including the coveted category Outstanding Comedy Series, which they won in 2008.
The winners of the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards thus far are as follows:
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Jon Cryer - Two And A Half Men

Anyway, I know many people might not care too much about the Emmys, I’m more of a Golden Globe man myself, but you do have to give it to them for giving 30 Rock the Emmy for best comedy two year in a row, if you don’t know that show Rocks!! So here’s the list and a few comments I thought I’d add to the nominees.
Best Comedy Series
Entourage
Family Guy-Really hope this show doesn’t win, not a big fan as so many others are.
Flight of the Conchords-i’d really like to see this show win, but it definitely won’t.
How I Met Your Mother-I’d also like to see this one win too.

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.
Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as...

Seth MacFarlane's gamble paid off. His Fox hit "Family Guy" on Thursday became the first animated series in nearly 50 years, and the second ever, to land a best comedy series nomination, following "The Flintstones" in 1961.
"Family Guy," which made it to the 10 finalists on the category last year but missed the final cut, might have been one of the beneficiaries of the TV Academy's decision to expand the number of nominees in the main categories from five to six.
Seven half-hours made it in to the best comedy series category, with two more first-timers, HBO's offbeat "The Flight of the Conchords," CBS' often overlooked "How I Met Your Mother" and Showtime's veteran "Weeds." They will compete against defending champ "30 Rock," previous winner "The Office" and HBO's "Entourage," which landed a third consecutive nomination in the top comedy category.

In anticipation of the imminent Primetime Emmy Awards, "Jimmy Kimmel Live" has brought in all the five hosts of the 60th annual event to the show, which results in a tiny scuffle. Ryan Seacrest ("American Idol"), Tom Bergeron ("Dancing with the Stars"), Heidi Klum ("Project Runway"), Howie Mandel ("Deal or No Deal") and Jeff Probst ("Survivor") all had a little discussion about paycheck.
The five-piece who will all share hosting duties this weekend, sat in front of Kimmel as part of his show's episode called "Big Night of Stars" which is aimed to promote the Emmy Awards. Kimmel dropped the bomb when asking about how much each of them is paid for their MC duties. After a heated argument between the men, Seacrest lunged into Probst and got into a fight. Klum, meanwhile, steered off the scene.
"Big Night of Stars" will air on ABC, Sunday, September 21 at 7:00 P.

Now that Chet is gone, maybe Malakal can win an immunity challenge. It's not impossible. The tribe is still relatively weak, with only one truly strong member in Ozzy, though I wouldn't call Amanda, Cirie and Ami dead weight. We're entering the traditional mid-season Survivor.aspx" >Survivor lull. On Survivor, it always seems like there comes a time when the the next couple of weeks are easily predictable – I think we're going to limp into the merge on Survivor: Micronesia. Once we get to the merge, however, things should get much better. Having the Favorites duke it out will be fun. So, back to ranking the Malakal tribe. The list is a pretty static one, similar to last week's, but with a couple of minor changes.
#6 – Erik Reichenbach
Erik is the weakest player left in the tribe, both physically and mentally. He will almost certainly be the next castaway voted off.

Chet Welch was voted off of Survivor.aspx" >Survivor: Micronesia last night. This was way overdue. Chet was another in a long line of older Survivor castaways who brought absolutely nothing to the table. He was a wet rag, a worthless pile of goo who forced others to change the way they played the game of Survivor, created unfortunate alliances and was the catalyst in three separate surprise eliminations. It makes me sick that Chet outlasted as many castaways as he did on this season of Survivor. It didn't have to be this way. The blame falls squarely on one place and one place only – the CBS/Survivor casting department.
I understand the need to give the older set a chance to compete on Survivor. That's fine. I also understand the desire to diversify the competition and cast openly gay contestants. This is also fine. But, that doesn't mean...

Joel Anderson became a victim of his own aggressive game play last week on Survivor.aspx" >Survivor: Micronesia. He was blind-sided at tribal council (mostly thanks to Cirie), and it made me happy. His over-playing earlier in the season, in which he opted to keep Chet over better players like Mikey Bortone and Mary Sartain, came back to bite right when he finally targeted Chet. Unfortunately for Malakal, this will severely weaken their tribe in future challenges. Chet, one would assume, is the next to go from Malakal, but that's been the assumption for a few weeks and the feeble pageant coach is still (kind of) alive. If Malakal continues to lose immunity challenges, the four favorites will be able to simply pick off the three remaining fans. Ozzy, with his hidden immunity idol and showmance Amanda in tow, is in good shape.

Did I just watch that correctly? Did the Fans make the same mistake two episodes in a row? Have they ever seen Survivor.aspx">Survivor played before? After five episodes, I suspect that CBS cleverly cast second-rate castaways as the Fans, in order to make the Favorites look good. From the second this season was concocted by Mark Burnett and the Survivor team, they knew they were going to feature the returning Favorites and not the new Fans. They did this by casting weaker players with weaker intellect and less personality on the Fans side, therefore giving the Favorites the upper hand and giving the editors an excuse to steal screen time away from the Fans. That's fine, though – I don't care if Survivor: Micronesia is unfair, so long as us viewers get to spend more time with the Favorites. But, just for fun, let's examine just how unfair...
