Matt Schlapp, the American Conservative Union (Acu) and Conservative Political Action Conference (Cpac) chairman, agreed to pay campaign staffer Carlton Huffman $480,000 to settle a sexual assault lawsuit.
Schlapp and his organization are long-time backers of former President Donald Trump.
In late 2022, Huffman, a staffer working for Herschel Walker‘s Senate campaign, anonymously accused Schlapp of making “sustained and unwanted and unsolicited” sexual contact with him.
The video was recorded on the night of the incident itself.
Walker’s campaign staffer stated that the incident happened on the night of October 19, 2022, when he “groped” his crotch in his car after buying him drinks.
Schlapp’s lawyer, Charlie Spies, said that the accusations were an “attack” and that Schlapp denied committing “any improper behavior.”
The Walker’s campaign confirmed that Huffman had shared the details of the incident with his supervisors.

The GOP strategist who accused Matt Schlapp of sexual assault last year reportedly received a hefty financial settlement to drop his lawsuit against the Cpac chairman — a day after Schlapp and his allies widely boasted on social media that the case had been dismissed.
On Wednesday, the Daily Beast reported that sources with knowledge of the payout said that the money for the settlement came from the Schlapp’s right wing organization American Conservative Union’s insurance policy. CNN published a story stating that the suit was dropped after Schlapp...

Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union and Cpac, reportedly hired a Catholic priest to perform an exorcism at Cpac’s offices last year.
According to Daily Beast senior political report Roger Sollenberger, Schlapp’s idea was sparked by the resignation of staffers who were dissatisfied with their pay. In turn, the hired priest “sprinkled holy water around the Cpac premises and blessed all the staff, regardless of their faith.”
He also “placed a medallion above doors in the offices” in an effort to “ward off evil spirits. The medallions are reportedly still present in Cpac’s offices.
Following the report on the exorcism, Schlapp and his wife, Mercedes Schlapp, accused the outlet of colluding with the devil.
“The Daily Beast is Satan’s publication to persecute Christians and their families,” wrote Mercedes Schlapp on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Americans are dying of fentanyl, children are being sex trafficked,...

A foul presence was haunting the Cpac office — and it wasn’t the organization’s chairman, Matt Schlapp. Schlapp believed Satan himself had to be driven from the premises, according to a new report from The Daily Beast.
Per the Beast, Schlapp called in a Catholic priest to conduct an exorcism of Cpac’s Alexandria office after complaints about staff treatment and inadequate pay led to a mass resignation of staffers in 2022.
The priest reportedly doused the place — and any employees he encountered — with holy water, and placed medallions depicting Saint Benedict,...

The Conservative Political Action Conference is taking place this week at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. Cpac is the year’s most biggest gathering of conservative thought leaders, serving as a kind of Coachella for misinformation, bigotry, religious zealotry, and veneration of a twice-impeached president who lost the 2020 election. The 2023 edition will feature speeches from likes of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, Donald Trump, and others, although big names like Ron DeSantis, Mike Pence, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy are skipping the conference,...

Ana Navarro has no love for her husband’s successor as the chair of the Conservative Political Action Committee (Cpac). According to the hosts of “The View,” Matt Schlapp and his wife became “barnacles” on “Donald Trump’s ass” pretty quickly, and the event has suffered because of it.
Navarro’s comments came on Friday as she and her co-hosts were discussing this year’s Cpac lineup, noting that the twice-impeached former president is the biggest Republican name on the attendees list. Other major figures like Florida governor Ron DeSantis and former vice president Mike Pence won’t be there, with DeSantis specifically going to a different GOP event the same weekend.
But that wasn’t overly surprising for the women at the table. According to host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who admitted she used to attend Cpac regularly, the event has become “basically a campaign contribution” for Trump, attended by...

A former campaign staffer to Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker is seeking almost 9.4 million in damages in a lawsuit alleging that Cpac Chair Matt Schlapp groped him non-consensually in October. The suit alleges that Schlapp defamed him and committed sexual battery against the staffer when he “reached in between [his] legs and fondled” him in a “sustained and unwanted and unsolicited” manner.
According to a report from The New York Times, the suit also names Mercedes Schlapp, Schlapp’s wife and a former Trump White House communications adviser. The staffer, who...

Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union and organizer of the influential Conservative Political Action Conference, has been accused of groping a male Herschel Walker campaign staffer in Georgia. The Daily Beast was the first to report the allegation on Thursday night, with NBC News corroborating it on Friday.

This year’s Cpac-afpac double feature was a multi-day spectacle that a single 2,000 word article could never describe in adequate detail. Over the course of three days, I witnessed enough absolutely bonkers shit to have leveled critical psychic damage on the most equanimous of monks. No amount of mindfulness meditation, Stella tall boys, or the finest CBD I could buy in the Free State of Florida was able to inure me to the effects of seeing Kevin Sorbo wearing a suit lined with his own Tweets. I was in the lion’s den,...

Update: After winning the Nevada caucuses by a wide margin, Bernie Sanders told supporters that his campaign is proving that it is building a robust coalition to defeat President Donald Trump in November.
“We have just put together a multi-generational, multiracial coalition, which is not only going to win in Nevada, it is going to sweep this country,” Sanders said at a rally in San Antonio.
In the early returns from Nevada, his closest rival, Joe Biden, predicted that he was on his way to a comeback.
“The press is ready to declare people dead quickly. Well, we are alive,” Biden told supporters.
He took aim at Sanders and Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire who has spent hundreds of millions of his own money in the race yet won’t be on the ballot until Super Tuesday, March 3.
“I’m a Democrat for a simple reason: I ain’t a socialist.

It was nothing but sunshine today from the regular weekend tweetstorm by President Donald Trump. Solid trade deals in place, the stock market at a record high, housing construction starts up, and a Florida golf course beckoning, the Commander-in-Tweet was a happy warrior in his online communications.
There were shout-outs to Lsu and Iowa women, and a brief Sean Hannity appearance for the defense on some issue percolating in Washington, DC that President Trump apparently doesn’t care much about.
We’ll add more communications as they roll in. The tweetstorm so far:

Updated with Jim Acosta remarks outside court: “I want to thank all of my colleagues in the press who supported us this week, and I want to thank the judge for the decision he made today. Let’s get back to work!” CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta crowed, minutes after a federal judge ruled the White House had to immediately return to Acosta the press badge it pulled abruptly this week.
President Donald Trump’s biggest punch-back at the missed its mark Friday morning when judge Timothy Kelly granted CNN’s Tro bid, saying the White House was wrong in revoking Acosta’s press pass.
In U.S. District Court in Washington DC Friday morning, Kelly said the news network is likely to prevail in its argument White House did not give due process to CNN’s Chief White House correspondent when it pulled his badge after a wild morning-after-midterms presser.

The D.C. area earthquake caused a huge scare in some of the major political centers of the nation, and, Sean Hannity argued, that "crisis" has already been adopted as a talking point by liberals to call for more spending on infrastructure. Citing Rahm Emanuel's famous "never let a crisis go to waste" quote, Hannity and panelist Mercedes Viana Schlapp challenged Kirsten Powers to explain where the infrastructure came from and dispute the dubious claim that Democrats "get away with" more name-calling than Republicans.
