Lawyers for James L. Dolan, the chairman and CEO behind Madison Square Garden and the Sphere, are seeking to dismiss the sexual assault lawsuit filed against him by a masseuse he hired while on tour with the Eagles.
In the lawsuit filed in January, plaintiff Kellye Croft claimed that in late 2013, Dolan enticed her into a sexual relationship and hired her as a massage therapist for the Eagles tour, during which Dolan’s band J.D. and the Straight Shot was the opening act.

A woman who worked as a masseuse on an Eagles tour a decade ago filed a lawsuit Tuesday against James L. Dolan, the chairman and CEO behind Madison Square Garden, and convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein, among others, alleging sexual assault and trafficking.
The plaintiff, Kellye Croft, claims that in late 2013, Dolan enticed her into a sexual relationship and hired her for the tour on which Weinstein, whom she says was a close friend of Dolan’s, sexually assaulted her. She says when she told Dolan about the rape, she alleges he was unsympathetic.

Billy Joel has revealed that his Madison Square Garden residency is coming to a close next year after 10 years.
“I’m kind of flabbergasted that it lasted as long as it did. My team tells me that we could continue to sell tickets, but ten years, 150 shows — all right already!” the Grammy-winning singer said in a statement. “I do remember the first time we played Madison Square Garden, it was the pinnacle of my career. I thought, ‘My God, I’m headlining Madison Square Garden.’ Everybody in the world knows when you play The Garden, it’s not just New York.”
He also expressed his appreciation for fans in his statement, saying, “I want to thank them for coming to our shows for this long. It’s hard to end, even at 150 lifetime shows. I just want to thank everyone for the wonderful thing that’s happened here.”

Updated: Hours after The Wall Street Journal reported that Kristin Dolan, the wife of James Dolan, was a candidate for CEO of AMC Networks, she officially has the top job. Kristin Dolan will begin as chief executive officer on February 27, according to a Wednesday-afternoon SEC Filing; her term is currently scheduled to last at least to March 31, 2026.
Before serving on the AMC Networks board and her work at the data-analytics firm 605, Kristin Dolan worked as Cablevision’s chief operating officer from 2014 to 2016.
Original story follows:
Last November, AMC Networks CEO Christina Spade left the company after less than three months on the job. Shortly afterwards, company chairman James L. Dolan assumed the temporary role of interim executive chairman while the board of directors looks for a suitable chief executive. They didn’t have to stray too far away from home, because Dolan’s wife is apparently one of the top candidates for the job.

Madison Square Garden Entertainment is moving forward with a spinoff of its traditional live entertainment businesses and plans to launch a new direct-to-consumer streaming offering.
The spinoff, which would include its namesake arena, Radio City Music Hall and the Beacon Theatre and the Chicago Theatre, is expected to be completed by the end of March 2023, subject to final board approval and other conditions. This would separate the group from the company’s other business, which include the Msg Sphere in Las Vegas and the Msg regional sports networks. The company recently announced it is exploring the sale of its majority stake in Tao Group Hospitality.

AMC Networks is choosing to host an in-person event during the spring upfront season, confirming plans for a presentation for about 200 to 250 guests.
The event, slated for Tuesday, April 18, at New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, will resemble last year’s pitch to advertisers at Peak, a restaurant near the top of a Hudson Yards skyscraper. AMC Networks has entered some choppy waters of late, with the abrupt departure last November of CEO Christina Spade after just three months in the job. James Dolan, whose family controls most of the company’s shares, was named interim executive chairman after the company signaled its intent to lay off 20 of its workforce, citing ongoing cord-cutting and other economic pressures.

To upfront or not upfront, that is the question.
AMC Networks will choose the former, holding an in-person event with between 200 to 250 attendees at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, April 18. The company opts for the approach after at least one of the nation’s biggest media companies has opted to abandon the concept, and a sector upstart has unveiled an effort to take its place.
AMC, home to premium series tied to “The Walking Dead” and author Anne Rice’s novels, intends to focus on the aforementioned series, as well as “Lucky Hank,” a new show starring Bob Odenkirk and Mireille Enos. The company will also discuss other programs; a widening array of Fast channels; and emerging methods of so-called “advanced advertising” that uses data to hone in on specific consumer groups.

AMC wants the 200 million profits lawsuit from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and fellow executive producers to be D.O.A.

Disney came out swinging Tuesday against Trian Partners and owner Nelson Peltz, the activist investor who’s pushing a proxy fight to take a seat on Disney’s board. “The current board is the right board for Disney shareholders,” the company said in a filing today with the SEC. “Nelson Peltz does not understand Disney’s business and lacks the skills and experience to assist the board in delivering shareholder value in a rapidly shifting media ecosystem.”
The public battle has been raging mostly so far on the website of the Securities and Exchange Commission where Trian filed a string of documents last week urging Disney shareholders to vote for Peltz as director at the upcoming annual meeting, and in opposition to Disney’s own nominated slate of directors. Trian said Disney has suffered from “self-inflicted wounds” and could benefit from outside advice and direction. Trian had said that meetings...

"The Walking Dead" may have ended, but its spin-off trudges on. "Fear the Walking Dead," the series that began as an in-world prequel set in Los Angeles and eventually moved its focus to fan-favorite character Morgan (Lennie James), is set to return this year. It turns out the show's time is limited, though, as AMC announced at its Television Critics Association press tour today that the upcoming season of "Fear the Walking Dead" will also be its last.

Kino Lorber hired former AMC Networks execs Ed Carroll and Lisa Schwartz to bolster its executive suite.
Carroll becomes chief strategy officer at the New York-based arthouse film group after three decades at AMC Networks, which included a stint as COO and overseeing series like The Walking Dead, Mad Men and Breaking Bad. Schwartz, who worked for two decades at the premium cable channel, most recently ran IFC Films and becomes chief revenue officer at Kino Lorber.
The departures of Carroll and Schwartz from AMC Networks coincided with the recent exit of CEO Christina Spade and company-wife layoffs as chairman James Dolan assumed control of the restructuring media player on an interim basis.
In their new roles, Carroll and Schwartz will work with Kino Lorber chairman and CEO Richard Lorber and COO Martha Benyam to shape the film group’s content and distribution strategies and push further into digital spaces.

AMC Networks will not be continuing its animated science-fiction series “Pantheon,” even though a second season has already been produced. There remains a possibility that the series could be licensed or sold to another platform.
The decision regarding “Pantheon” was made months ago, declared in a list of programming write-offs in early December of last year. The embattled network’s cost-cutting measures include 400 million for “strategic programming assessments” and 75 million for “organizing restructuring costs,” per an SEC filing.

Earlier this week, Variety reported that the second season of the Courtney B. AMC has opted not to move forward with the series “Demascus,” Variety has confirmed.
The show was ordered to series at the cabler back in February 2022 and had completed production but will no longer air on AMC. The news comes after Variety exclusively reported that AMC was also not proceeding with Season 2 of the legal drama “61st Street” or with its planned series adaptation of the novel “Invitation to a Bonfire.”
The decisions were made as part of cost cutting measures announced by AMC in December 2022, in which the company stated it would take write-downs for up to 475 million. That figure included 400 million for “strategic programming assessments” and 75 million for “organizational restructuring costs,” per an SEC filing. Just prior to that announcement, AMC Networks CEO Christina Spade abruptly departed the company after less than three months in the role. James L. Dolan was then named interim executive chairman by the board of directors shortly thereafter.

Barbara Hart was celebrating her wedding anniversary and waiting for Brandi Carlile to take the stage at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 22, when a pair of security guards approached her and her husband by their seats and asked for the couple to follow them. At first, Hart tells Rolling Stone she was excited, thinking it was some sort of surprise before the concert started. Her excitement turned to anxiety soon after, however, as she spoke with security and gathered that she’d been identified using facial-recognition technology. Then they escorted her out of the venue.

As the streaming industry matures, AMC Networks — the cable-reliant company that introduced such hits as “Mad Men,” “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead” — is among the smaller businesses that may be left behind in the competitive streaming wars, industry insiders tell TheWrap.
AMC Networks, majority-owned and controlled by the Dolan family, launched its flagship streamer, AMC+, in the summer of 2020, at the height of the pandemic and amid the boom of new platforms like the rebranded HBO Max. Just months afterward, in November, the company announced layoffs affecting 100 staffers, roughly 10 of its workforce at the time, in a restructuring meant to streamline linear network operations with streaming, then considered one of AMC Networks’ areas with the greatest potential for growth.
Last week, the company once again announced a “large-scale layoff” affecting roughly 20 of its staff as well as the abrupt departure of CEO Christina Spade after just three months. (Board...

The board of directors of AMC Networks has named James L. Dolan the company’s interim executive chairman effective immediately.
Dolan was previously the chairman of AMC Networks. His appointment comes after AMC Networks CEO Christina Spade abruptly departed the company last week after less than three months in the role.
“AMC Networks has a seasoned executive leadership team and I look forward to working with them to provide high-level strategic direction and guidance as we navigate the business during this period of transformation in the media industry,” Dolan said.
Dolan is slated to remain in his new role until March 6, 2023 or until the board finds a new CEO, whichever comes first.
Dolan previously warned AMC staffers about significant cutbacks at the company in a memo following Spade’s exit. “We are primarily a content company and the mechanisms for the monetization of content are in disarray,” he wrote at the time.

Harry Styles got teary-eyed on stage for the final show of his month-long slate of performances at New York City's Madison Square Garden on Sept. 21. The "As It Was" singer wrapped up his 15-show run at the venue and was surprised with a permanent banner that will hang from the rafters to acknowledge his accomplishment.
CBS host Gayle King joined a visibly emotional Styles during the encore to present the singer with the banner, which will become a permanent fixture at the iconic venue to mark his impressive run of sold-out events. The Love On Tour shows began Aug. 20, with a couple of breaks so that Styles could attend the Venice Film Festival to promote his upcoming film "Don't Worry Darling" and the Toronto International Film Festival for the "My Policeman" premiere.
Styles's banner joins those of Billy Joel and Phish, who have also been immortalized in the Garden's rafters.
