“The Great” is not returning for Season 4 on Hulu, Variety has confirmed.
The satirical take on Catherine The Great’s story painted the historical figure as “an idealistic, romantic young girl, who arrives in Russia for an arranged marriage to the mercurial Emperor Peter. All she has to do is kill her husband, beat the church, baffle the military and get the court onside,” according to the official description.
The series starred Elle Fanning as Catherine, Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow.
Season 3, which was released on May 12, picked up with Catherine and Peter (Hoult) who agree to work on their marriage after Catherine previously had his friends imprisoned and attempted to murder him. The season...

Hulu has canceled its period dramedy The Great after three seasons.
The news comes some three-and-a-half months after the show’s third (and now final) season premiered as a binge release in May. The series stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult and explores the relationship of Russian Empress Catherine II and Emperor Peter III in the 18th century.
The show earned seven Emmy nominations over the course of its run, winning the award for outstanding period costumes last year. Fanning and Hoult also earned acting nominations in 2022, and series creator Tony McNamara and director Matt Shakman scored writing and directing nods for the series’ premiere episode in 2020.
The Great was also a critical favorite, earning nearly universally positive reviews across all three of its seasons. How many people watched it, however, remains a mystery as Hulu (like most other streamers) doesn’t share much viewing data and season three did...

“The Great” will not return for a fourth season at Hulu. The streaming service canceled the period drama after three critically acclaimed seasons.
The series was created, written and executive produced by “The Favourite” screenwriter Tony McNamara, and it starred Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult in a kooky tale about the life of Russian empress Catherine the Great.
The third season, which dropped all episodes on May 12, followed Catherine (Fanning) and her husband Peter (Hoult) as they worked on their relationship following her staged coup to take control of Russia. Thankfully, the Season 3 finale provided some closure to Catherine’s story, as it featured her growing into her role as leader while grieving a major loss.
The reasons for the cancellation are unclear, given the show’s garnered strong fan response as well as seven Emmy nominations since debuting in 2020. The drama won the Emmy for Outstanding Period Costumes in...

Catherine and Peter are going to try and work this out.
On Wednesday, Hulu released the first trailer for Season 3 of “The Great,” which shows its lead couple (played by 2022 Emmy nominees Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult) attempting a royal version of couples’ therapy. It doesn’t seem all that promising. Here’s the official logline provided by Hulu:
Season 3 of “The Great” sees Catherine (Elle Fanning) and Peter (Nicholas Hoult) attempt to make their marriage work after some seemingly insurmountable problems. Peter witnessed his own attempted murder at Catherine’s hands and she also imprisoned all of his friends. On top of this, Peter is at a loose end playing First Husband to Catherine’s reign, so he busies himself with fathering, hunting and salty culinary ventures. Catherine the Great and her husband are headed to couples therapy.
After an assassination gone wrong left the fate — and the marriage — of Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning) and Peter (Nicholas Hoult) to hang in the balance, the oddly suited pair are determined to smooth over their issues by talking it out in the trailer for “The Great” Season 3, which premieres May 12 on Hulu.
“We’ve had some difficulties,” Catherine admits to what can only be assumed to be a therapist in the trailer, while Peter adds, “apparently marriage has challenges.”
“There was some blood shed,” Catherine continues, with Peter clarifying, “she tried to kill me.”
“Well, that shakes a man,” Peter says before Catherine asks their counselor how the pair can begin trust each other. Their advisor responds simply: “Faith,” which brings both Catherine and Peter to the agreement that this optimistic answer was “annoying.”

Representatives aren't always easy people to be around," jokes Echo Lake Entertainment CEO Doug Mankoff. "Our idea was, let's do this business in a different way." After launching Echo Lake's production arm in 1997, Mankoff brought in Mike Marcus, a veteran talent agent and former president and COO of MGM Pictures, to create a management shingle in 2006. "Our philosophies aligned," recalls Marcus of choosing to accept Mankoff's offer.

Sound the Fargo reunion klaxon! For The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Jesse Plemons – star of Breaking Bad, Bridge of Spies and Black Mass – will reteam with actor/director and real-life girlfriend Kirsten Dunst for The Bell Jar, a new spin on Sylvia Plath’s literary classic of ’63.
There, Plemons will join Dakota Fanning, who landed the lead role of Esther Greenwood during the summer months. Meanwhile, Lenny Shepherd is the name of Plemons’ character, and we understand that production is expected to kick into gear early next year.
Acting as the directorial debut of Kirsten Dunst, there are precious few story details available for this new interpretation of The Bell Jar. That being said, we’re inclined to believed Dunst will remain fairly faithful to Plath’s novel, as opposed to churning out a modern redo of Larry Peerce’s own film adaptation from 1979.
