Marking further dynamic expansion, ViacomCBS International Studios (Vis) and Ricardo Siri Liniers, Argentina’s best known cartoonist and children’s book author-illustrator, have announced they will adapt Liniers’ latest graphic novel, “Wildflowers.”
The project rolls off a development deal between Vis, ViacomCBS’ global production arm, and Liniers that was announced by Vis Kids at Kidscreen in February. This mentions the “adaptation of an upcoming book.”
“Wildflowers” (“Flores Salvajes”) marks the final part of a beginning readers’ graphic novel trilogy begun by “The Big Wet Balloon,” Liniers’ U.S. debut in 2013, and continued by 2017’s “Good Night, Planet.”
All three are odes to Liniers’ own three daughters. “As soon as I took a photo of my three young daughters looking at the jungle in Yukatan, México, I began to imagine this book,” Liniers has said. The three graphic novels also pay tribute, however, to the more general joy of childhood play and its imaginative powers.

Filming is underway on new police thriller “Parot” – a series based on the chaos that followed a controversial move seven years ago to reverse a piece of legislation in Spain that ensured prisoners served their full jail terms.
The ten-part drama, made up of one-hour episodes, focuses on a series of retribution attacks on prisoners who were subsequently released early, and a police officer determined to track down the person or people responsible for a series of revenge killings.
Filmed on location in Madrid – the series was ordered by ViacomCBS International Studios and Spanish public broadcaster channel and is being made by local production-sales company Onza, producers of Spanish time travel drama “The Department of Time.”
Since its launch in 2018, Vis has been on a major production drive and SVP & head of Vis Americas Federico Cuervo added that “Parot” marked the continuation of its strategy to pursue content partnerships with key European partners.

Viacom is ramping up international production with new outposts in Manchester, England, and Madrid, Spain.
The company has been investing in production outside its home turf in the U.S. through the Viacom International Studios unit, which opened a new Latin America-focused studio in Miami last year with Federico Cuervo at the helm. It has now opened a new production office in Manchester, in northern England, as it seeks out British commissions beyond those for its own free-tv network, Channel 5, and its suite of pay-tv channels, which include MTV and Nickelodeon.
The new U.K. office has already launched production on a factual series for ITV. No further details were disclosed about the series, which will be Viacom’s first original U.K. show for a channel outside its own circle.
