Austin Aries is one of the WWE’s top Cruiserweights, both in terms of in-ring ability and on-face hair. The pro-wrestler and author of memoir “Food Fight,” which doubles as a vegan nutritional guide, kindly walked TheWrap though his shaving routine on Wednesday, serving up the perfect (non-animal-product) recipe for carving a kick-ass beard. “I think it probably started out when I was just trying to shave off the ones that were gray — and that was kinda the shape,” Aries said of his trademark look. It’s time once more for Wrestlemania the biggest professional wrestling and sports entertainment event for fans and performers that there is. This year the event is held in Orlando, the home of Nxt – where a lot of the current roster of superstars got their start -and as usual (at least on paper) the card doesn’t seem that great. But that’s the thing with the WWE’s biggest pay per view, there’s always surprises: especially when it comes to Wrestlemania moments…. So with that lets get into Wrestlemania 33 – starting with the usual 2-hour kick off pre-show, which this year features the Crusiserweight Championship match the the now-annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale.
Wrestlemania 33 Kick-Off Show Cruiserweight Championship Match: Austin Aries vs Neville
Aries has the upper hand early in the match, hitting a spinning elbow on Neville off the middle rope, sending him to the outside.

We're a couple weeks away from the biggest show of the year, Wrestlemania. Traditionally, the WWE has gone all out in trying to build up interest for what they call "The Showcase of the Immortals." This year, we have the WWE once again in a brand split, trying to create two separate shows with two separate identites that never intermingle. Former WWE announcer and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross stated back in July when the brand split first occurred that we as fans would best be able to judge the success of the brand split by Wrestlemania time. So, with Wrestlemania 33 happening on April 2nd and being shown live on the WWE Network, how did Monday Night Raw add up this week?

WWE: Roadblock-End of the Line is in the books. As a night that promised to close the chapter on some feuds on the Raw brand, for the most part the event didn’t disappoint. Here are the results of the matches and my thoughts.
Rusev vs Big Cass (Kickoff Show Match)
As I dreaded, this match was a dud thanks to Rusev. I could honestly care less about his character. While Lana is definitely a lovely woman, looks can only take you so far in the pro wrestling business. The entire setup for the match seemed stolen from 1980’s era wrestling. The only entertaining part of the match was the usual great mic work from Enzo before the match started. Thankfully it was over pretty quick. Lana distracts Enzo who gets taken out by Rusev. Big Cass checks on his friend only to get counted out. Big whoop. The...

Warning: This Is Gross As Hell Halloween isn't until Monday but a pro wrestling star is giving you the scariest, most disgusting face you'll see all weekend Today ... and we gotta warn you ... it's pretty freakin' gnarly. The face belongs to Austin Aries, a WWE/Nxt star who got his face busted up during a match with Shinsuke Nakamura in Fresno this week when a super kick got a little too real. Ouch! #NXTfresno @Figster_7 pic.

Tommy Dreamer and Baron Corbin could be surprise entrants in tonight’s third annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32.
Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer noted today that there’s at least one surprise entrant expected in the match tonight and those two names were rumoured the strongest.
Former Ecw favourite Dreamer last appeared for WWE several months ago during The Dudley Boyz’s hardcore-style feud with the Wyatt family where he competed in a couple of matches in the last few weeks of 2015.
Corbin, who lost to a debuting Austin Aries at Friday night’s Nxt Dallas: Takeover show, has long been touted as a strong candidate for the main roster and perhaps an appearance in the Battle Royal tonight will be the beginning of a permanent switch to Raw and SmackDown.

Ok WrestleMania Xxxii, top that.
Nxt unleashed it’s latest TakeOver special Friday night, running through five matches during a two-and-a-half-hour show that was an absolute can’t-miss affair for any wrestling fan. Four of the five matches were jump-out-of-your-seat good, while the fifth still was a perfectly decent bout.
We saw two new champions crowned out of the three title matches and likely watched Nxt bid farewell to one of its biggest stars, with a couple others possibly headed on their way to the main roster in the coming weeks and months. TakeOver: Dallas was the culmination of months of storylines building to this point, with aggressors like Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin getting their comeuppance and rising tag team stars American Alpha shining.

Just 13 days after Tna announced Bobby Roode would be leaving the company after 12 years of service, the two-time Tna World Heavyweight Champion and eight-time World Tag Team Champion was sighted at Nxt TakeOver: Dallas.
Highlighted by WWE’s camera crew and social media team during the live event, Roode looks destined to become the latest Tna stalwart to have found a new home in WWE over the past year.

With only two days to go until Nxt TakeOver: Dallas, the brand pulled out all of the stops when it came to promoting what may be its most highly-anticipated show ever. And while the in-ring action was mostly confined to squash matches (there’s probably not a fan who saw the show and couldn’t predict the winner of every single bout), it’s okay – TV is supposed to serve the paid product. That’s a lesson WWE’s main roster’s creative team would do well to learn.
There are six huge matches scheduled for TakeOver: Dallas – Nxt Champion Finn Balor versus Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura versus Sami Zayn, Nxt Women’s Champion Bayley versus Asuka, Nxt Tag Team Champions The Revival versus American Alpha, Apollo Crews versus Elias Samson, and Baron Corbin versus Austin Aries. In the course of a 55-minute show, Nxt managed to hype each bout on the special.

WWE’s Nxt hit the road this weekend for its latest tour through the northeastern United States, kicking off with a stop at the historic Tower Theater in suburban Philadelphia.
From the moment I stepped through the front doors of the venue, it became clear that I was in for a night unlike any I had ever experienced in 25 years of attending live professional wrestling. There was an excitement, a giddiness even, that each fan exuded as they took their seats for the event. Finn Balor t-shirts were prevalent and chatter about the first in-ring appearance of former Tna and Ring of Honor world champion Austin Aries spread like wildfire.
And then the bell rang and all of it was immediately understandable.

The influx of talent continues to flow into Nxt, as yet another former Tna and RoH champion is on his way to the yellow brand. Austin Aries was introduced to the brand by General Manager William Regal at the latest set of tapings, and was subsequently attacked by Baron Corbin to spark off what I can only assume will be some serious beef between the two.
With all the hoopla surrounding the signings of Aj Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura, Aries flew under the radar a little. This isn’t to say that A Double should be underestimated of course, as the 15-year professional has long proved himself one of the most talented performers in all of North American pro graps.

It’s been a whirlwind of a week in the world of wrestling with fans buzzing over the arrivals of Aj Styles, Austin Aries and Shinsuke Nakamura in WWE. Styles made his highly anticipated debut in the 2016 Royal Rumble match while Aries appeared at last Friday’s set of Nxt tapings in Orlando. Days later, it was announced that Nakamura will be in action at Nxt TakeOver: Dallas.
How WWE will treat Nakamura in Nxt remains to be seen, but if the way they have utilized Styles so far on the main roster has been any indication, he will be just fine. He dominated the Japanese wrestling scene for over a decade and will now face a new set of challenges in Nxt, where he will face some of the greatest wrestlers in the world today.
It feels like every signing to the so-called developmental territory is more exciting than the last.

Seems as though WrestleMania weekend doubles as ‘graduation day’ for select Nxt talents. Last year, Neville and The Lucha Dragons appeared on the post-WrestleMania 31 episode of Raw, each immediately becoming a weekly element of the shows. Sometimes, talent will debut some delayed time after WrestleMania weekend – Kevin Owens popped up six weeks later, and hasn’t looked back from his high placement on WWE cards.
Historically, WWE has enjoyed ‘shaking things up’ when ripping off the last page of their calendar. The dawn of a new WWE year brings about changes. At one time, the brand extension necessitated a ‘re-draft’ that chaotically flipped parts of the rosters, usually boosting Raw at the expense of taped B-show Smackdown. Nowadays, it’s all about charting the progress of the Performance Center diamonds, figuring out when their ascent to the main roster will come.

During recent tapings for WWE’s Nxt show, none other than Austin Aries made his official World Wrestling Entertainment debut. Announced and brought in front of fans by the brand’s General Manager William Regal, Aries was then ambushed by Baron Corbin before he even made it to the ring.
Aries is the latest former Tna talent to sign on the dotted line with the McMahon family, something which surely must be troubling to Dixie Carter and company. As brazen as Carter has been in media appearances, stating that it’s a good thing WWE recognise their hard work, she must be concerned that even Nxt is of greater appeal to talent than her own promotion.
For many professional wrestlers, WWE is the promised land. At 37 years of age, Aries perhaps realised that the time was right to take the plunge and see what he could achieve in wrestling’s biggest organisation.

WWE held four weeks worth of television tapings on Friday evening at the Cfe Arena in Orlando, Florida. With the third biggest WWE PPV event of the year (Royal Rumble) in town on Sunday evening at the Amway Center, WWE looked to capitalize on the hype by taking their red-hot developmental brand down the road from Full Sail University to an arena that holds just under 10,000 people. This was by far the biggest event Nxt has ever held in the state of Florida.
Nxt held television tapings two weeks ago at Full Sail, so they already have several weeks of TV ready to go. Friday evening’s tapings at Cfe Arena are set to air in February in early March.

With the recent influx of talent from Tna – including Samoa Joe, The Dudley Boyz and most recently James Storm – WWE has clearly reversed their position of not wanting anything to do with former Tna talents. Now you can place two more names on the list of potential additions to the thriving developmental promotion.
Former Tna World Champion Austin Aries was spotted arriving at Full Sail University, the location where Nxt tapes its programming. Aries, who most recently worked for Ring of Honor but is still appearing on Tna due to their advanced taping schedule, stopped to sign autographs for fans before making his way into the venue.
While his presence has been confirmed by a photo posted to Twitter, he didn’t appear in the ring or as part of the tapings… but speculation is he was there to hold talks with WWE about a potential working agreement.

Tna Impact Wrestling plumbed new, soul-destroying depths this week, as the show wasn’t merely low-effort but very nearly no-effort, serving up one particular segment that’s a testament to how little thought is really being put into these tapings. Sure, Tna are backed into a corner somewhat with this pre-taped World Title tournament, but the company’s still making ridiculous mistakes and basically suggesting they don’t much care.
EC3’s mic skills are still terrifically entertaining and there were some amusing moments of fan interaction, but this week’s show only cements the feeling that we’re watching an agonisingly drawn-out slow death. Hopefully things will pick up a little with the upcoming shows in India and the UK, but if it’s all just possibly leading to Mahabali Shera capturing the Tna World Title in India (a rare market where Tna does insanely well), is it really worth it?...

WWE has a habit of looking to other promotions for talent at times. Though they’ve succeeded at building their own stars, more often than not, their biggest draws started off somewhere else before making it big in WWE. Examples include Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, Daniel Bryan, and Seth Rollins, among countless others.
Today’s WWE, in particular, appears to rely heavily on foreign stars to bring in viewers. With the notable exceptions of John Cena, Randy Orton, Sheamus and Roman Reigns, the overwhelming majority of WWE’s most important draws in the last decade made a reputation for themselves elsewhere and were offered big money contracts to perform in WWE.
Given this approach, many people have wondered how certain wrestlers would’ve done if they had signed with WWE. For every ‘outside’ wrestler that WWE does sign, there are two others that they might sign...

Tna Wrestling is changing the way they pay their performers because they are moving away from giving talents long term contracts and instead moving to more per appearance deals, according to PWInsider.
There were several performers that were informed of this new strategy over the last week. In some cases, Tna will pay talents a bit more per appearance than what they were getting before because it would make up for the loss of the guarantee deals and if Tna starts doing more live events then the wrestlers could get more money. Tna Wrestling is changing the way they pay their performers because they are moving away from giving talents long term contracts and instead moving to more per appearance deals, according to PWInsider.
There were several performers that were informed of this new strategy over the last week. The future of Tna Wrestling on American television remains very much in doubt with strong rumours that they will be removed from Destination American this September. New details from the Wrestling Observer state that Tna talents have apparently being told that the company is looking for a new TV deal.
It was also mentioned to Tna’s wrestlers that they don’t have to worry because the money that Tna makes from international deals will keep them going while they try to find a new television home in the United States.
Since Tna has trimmed most of the big contracts down and other high priced performers have left the company (James Storm, Austin Aries and Magnus are recent examples), they have at least made an effort to save some money. Wrestlers were also told that the company’s business model was changing, which likely means more “per appearance...

Austin Aries has decided to go back to a familiar place, Ring of Honor. After his Tna Wrestling deal expired last week, he became a free agent and it was announced on Monday that Aries will return to Roh on July 17 in Las Vegas.
According to ROHWrestling.com, Aries plans to address the crowd and not hold anything back. He has always been a guy that’s not afraid to speak his mind or shy away from being controversial, so it will be interesting to see what he has to say to the fans in Vegas.
Aries is a former two time Roh World Champion that worked for the company from 2004 to 2010. He signed with Tna in 2011 after he tried to get into WWE as part of their Tough Enough show. Aries went on to win Tna’s World Title as well, but was unhappy in the last...

Tna Wrestling held their first pay-per-view event of 2015 on Sunday night in Orlando. While there wasn’t a Tna World Title match on the show, a new “King of the Mountain” Champion was crowned with Jeff Jarrett winning the title in the main event.
Here are the results from Slammiversary;
X-Division Title: Tigre Uno d. Manik & DJ Zema. Tigre Uno used a corkscew senton for the win.
Robbie E d. Jessie Godderz. They were a former heel tag team, Robbie turned face and got the win a reverse Ddt.
Street Fight: Bram d. Matt Morgan. Prior to the match, Morgan challenged Bram to a Street Fight. There was a point in the match where Bram tried to find an object, but didn’t seem to find anything. After getting some chairs in the ring, Bram was able to hit a Ddt on a chair for the win.

The biggest storyline in WWE this week was Seth Rollins getting some help from his friends in The Authority. The group worked together to slow down Brock Lesnar, who rarely takes a beating like the one he suffered on Raw. It was a good way to progress things in the WWE Title feud that will lead to Rollins defending his gold against Lesnar at WWE Battleground on July 19.
That return of the united Authority group continued on Smackdown when Big Show attacked Ryback with two Chokeslams during Ryback’s match with Kane. Perhaps this will mean that Big Show is back with The Authority as well. Smackdown ended with Rollins beating Dean Ambrose again, thanks in part to the distraction of Joey Mercury and Kane. Meanwhile, poor Jamie Noble is out with three broken ribs due to Lesnar being a bit too aggressive.

World Wrestling Entertainment has some interest in current Tna Wrestling stars specifically for the Nxt brand, reports the Wrestling Observer. They are trying to find out what Tna talents have contracts that expire soon.
This is a different way of doing business than what WWE was doing in the past when they reportedly didn’t have much interest in Tna talents. Now that they have signed former Tna star Samoa Joe and have rumored interest in Aj Styles although he is busy working for Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
A current Tna name that reportedly has an expiring deal is Austin Aries. WWE passed on him in the past, but with their new philosophy with Nxt it’s possible that he might be brought in.

The shows will take place in Glasgow on the 29th, Manchester on the 30th and London on the 31st. The exciting thing is, no matter which show you attend, all events will be TV tapings. That means the men and women of Impact Wrestling will be putting on some of the most exciting action you could possibly imagine. In particular, the London taping looks to be extra special, as it will feature the Ultimate X match.

Tna gets a lot of flack for taking talent WWE has fired. But they definitely don’t get the appreciation they deserve for building their own stars. Guys like Bobby Roode, Aj Styles, James Storm, Austin Aries, Samoa Joe, Magnus, and Eric Young have all been to the top of the mountain in Tna and have been great main eventers. Granted, some of the talent have made it big on the indies but Tna helped make them a household name and made them more familiar to the mainstream wrestling audience.
Tna also has a knack for taking a talent WWE has, some would say, misused, and make them into something you want to see. Take EC3 for example. Relegated to being a low card guy in WWE, he comes to Tna and shows he is worthy of the main event slot and worthy of a World Championship. Taryn Terrell...

For the record, Tna doesn’t have a talent problem.
It is worth saying that, even though a couple of non-tna wrestlers appear on this list, it is our firm contention that Tna has more than enough talent in its roster to lift itself from its current malaise.
So, whilst it is easy to point out that Tna is a company with more than a few problems, those problems have little or nothing to do with Tna’s genuinely world-class roster. Say what you will about the company’s creative direction, but if you don’t rate the talents of stars like Austin Aries, Bobby Roode or Samoa Joe, then frankly, this article isn’t for you because you probably aren’t much of a wrestling fan…

The company has seen a string of unfortunate press following the announcement that Spike TV was uninterested in agreeing to a new deal with Tna. Since the initial news, however, a temporary agreement was reached that will see Tna’s flagship program, Impact, remain on the network through the end of the year.
This past weekend, Tna held its final series of Impact tapings in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In just three weeks, the promotion will head overseas to Tokyo, Japan for their annual Bound for Glory pay-per-view event. With Impact taped for the rest of the year and Tna’s last PPV of 2014 quickly approaching, many of the company’s superstars took to Twitter to share their love and support for their colleagues.

With Tna’s future uncertain, it’s talent are either confident in what lies ahead, or they’re putting on a pretty good poker face. Former Tna champion Mr. Anderson spoke to Chuck Carroll of CBS New York this week, as Anderson helped to promote the next set of Tna Impact tapings at the Manhattan Center.
Tna recently made major changes, going back to their roots by bringing back the signature six-sided ring in which helped them identify themselves during their developmental years. Many Tna stars, namely Austin Aries and Ethan Carter III publicly spoke about their dismay as it pertained to the ring. Several wrestlers have commented in the past that the six sided ring is much harder than a traditional ring, and creates an awkward angle when using the top rope.
“As far as I know (wrestlers) didn’t have any. As far as I know that was strictly an organizational thing.

Tna may be without a television deal as of now, but their current numbers remain steady, as the episodes of Impact taped at the Manhattan Center continue to do decent ratings.
According to TV By the Numbers, last night’s episode, which was a special “Destination X” themed show, took a small dip from last week’s impressive showing, dropping 3%, and attracting an average of 1.383 million viewers, down from the 1.42 million viewers that last week’s episode drew. The number is still good, however, as last week’s episode were the highest the company had received since February.
The show featured a main event of Austin Aries selecting “Option C,” and giving up his X-Division title for a shot at Bobby Lashley’s Tna World Heavyweight Title. Following the match, Tna essentially spoiled their own show for next week, letting the viewers know that Bully Ray puts Dixie Carter through a table,...

On June 17th, Tna Wrestling posted a brief poll on their website to determine which style of ring they would permanently use from here on out — a classic four-sided ring, or the six-sides of yesteryear.
According to Tna, whichever ring received the most fan votes would be used from now on, starting with the television tapings in NYC on the June 25 – 27th weekend. The poll was originally set to end at midnight on Thursday, after a live edition of Impact. However, the voting time period was extended through Sunday, so as to incorporate the UK fans who wouldn’t see Impact until then.
On Monday, June 23rd at 8pm, the winning ring was announced. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the six-sided ring will see its return. The traditional squared circle lost to the six-sides in a landslide, as most Tna fans have been clamoring for its return since its original departure in...

So Tna is officially twelve years old!
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling receives a lot of criticism, and rightfully so. The unwanted stepchild of the wrestling world, Tna has been ridiculed for ridiculous booking, poor live attendance, woeful PPV buys and pushing 40 year old stars from other promotions. It’s easy to criticize Tna, but that doesn’t mean that the company has been a complete failure.
Over the last twelve years, Tna has proven that they can provide an alternative wrestling product that fans can take pride in supporting. Through all the blatant attempts to emulate WWE, and all the downright insane booking by Vince Russo, Tna has shown flashes of brilliance that prove they don’t deserve all the hate. Sure a lot of that may be in the past, but we can still look back at the last decade and say that Tna managed to carve out a...

After watching Impact wrestling last night I was embarrassed. I was embarrassed as a wrestling fan, by the product and by admitting I even watched it. Tna is crumbling before our eyes.
The best possible thing Dixie could do is Not resign Hulk Hogan but unfortunately she doesn’t know how to make good business decisions, so she will.
Her “heel” turn is painful to watch. Dixie may own Tna but she sure as hell shouldn’t be the face of it. Not only was her promo horrible, it wasn’t even believable.
Thank God after that we were treated to a great match by Austin Aries and Jeff Hardy. It’s matches like theirs that keep me watching. But…
Then we’re forced to sit through Bromance in the ring fighting with Odb and Eric Young? Why?! How is that segment even making it to TV?!
Aces and Eights is a laughing stock.

October 27th 2009 was a day that I imagine very few people saw coming. This was the day that Tna Wrestling, a company that has long been a very distant number two wrestling promotion who are very much in the background compared to the monolith that is WWE – announced they had signed The biggest professional wrestler in the business, Hulk Hogan.
Now of course Hogan was way beyond actually wrestling anything aside from maybe a very rare match with very few bumps taken, but his presence clearly would attract a whole new audience to the Tna product wouldn’t it? See Tna had been trying to raise awareness for their product for many years. Usually they seemed to try and accomplish this by trying to attract former WWE wrestlers and hoping they would help them get over the 1.0 ratings hump that they’d been stuck with seemingly forever. They tried with Christian,...

I love Tna. I love Jakks Pacific. I was so excited when Jakks announced that they acquired the license to make Tna action figures. I was so pumped. I loved what Jakks had done with the WWE license from the Ruthless Aggression figures, to the Deluxe figures, to the Classic Superstars line. Jakks gave us, without a doubt, the best years of wrestling figures when they had the WWE license. Since Jakks acquired the Tna line in 2010, we’ve gotten 10 sets of figures. Just ten! When Jakks had WWE we would get more than 10 sets a year!
It’s safe to say that I am disappointed with the Tna line of figures, in the amount that we get. I love the figures. I really do. I get excited every time they announce a new line-up. Unfortunately, that seems to be once every 6-8 months. I really wish Jakks would try...

After the recent releases in Tna and reports that the company is in financial trouble, it got me thinking that if the ship finally does sink, which stars could make it in the glitz and glamour world of WWE.
Now I admit I am a fan of Tna and do not want them to go out of business but there are some Tna stars that I would love to see in WWE and unfortunately Tna going out of business is probably the only way I can see this happening.
For fans of Tna some of these should hopefully come as no surprise but for non Tna fans I hope that my appraisal of each of these stars will make you take notice of, not just them, but of Tna as well.
These 5 stars, in my opinion, have all the tools to make it in the number 1 company…

Wrestling has always been about good vs evil. The bad guy vs the good guy. Who’s going to win? Who do you cheer for? Who do you hate?
Today a lot of wrestlers like to walk the fine line between both. A guy like John Cena comes to mind, he’s a guy who kids love and most adults hate. Anyways, this isn’t about the inbetweeners, it’s about the bad guy. The one you love to hate.
What makes a great heel? A great heel is someone who you can’t stand. They want to be booed, they thrive on it. They say things to intentionally get under your skin and they love every minute of it.
A truly great heel doesn’t care about selling merchandise or being liked outside of the ring. He’s someone who you watch in hopes of seeing him get his ass kicked.

Impact Wrestling was back in Indiana, Pennsylvania for the second time and saw the building blocks being laid to the road to Slammiversary. Did it give me a reason to party over Tna’s birthday plans or will this party just be a bust? Well, let me tell you what I think.
Let’s begin with the opening segment, which saw Hulk Hogan apologize after months of doubting Sting. Sting says that’s water under the bridge and he wants to take the full offensive on Aces and Eights beginning next week in a six man tag. Hogan tells sting to pick whoever he wants for that squad, he has to decide who get the number one contender spot for Bully Ray in Boston. Matt Morgan comes out and says the shot should be his, Hogan says he’s not going to make mistakes anymore and just give someone the shot.

This week’s Impact from Indiana, Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh saw the roster pairing up together in a lot of different ways. Everyone seemed to be uniting in the cause of getting rid of Aces and Eights. However, was it full of outrageous fortune or did it not come together in the end?

There’s a saying that everything is bigger in Texas and that proves to be true on this weeks impact from Corpus Christi, Texas. We even had the opening shown which never happens, usually on television. And to prove that, Hogan wants to talk to Hardy about his Full Metal Mayhem later tonight.
The action begins with the tag team title match two out of three falls as Austin Aries and Bobby Roode battle Hernandes and Chavo. The expectation at least in my opinion, is when two out of three falls happens it’s expected to have a long match. However, the first two falls of this match happened within the first five minutes. So why have the stipulation in the first place? If you don’t have time for it, why do it? That being said, the match was solid and everybody worked hard. It just felt very expedited.

Cm Punk, the best in the world, as he claims, was WWE Champion for 434 days, a feat almost unimaginable in today’s wrestling. The streak itself is a focal point for his claim of being the best; surely someone who can hold onto the biggest title in wrestling’s biggest company for that long must be the best in the world? The fact that WWE allowed him to hold the belt for that long proves that they have a lot of faith in him to carry the company, but is he the best in the world?
I think it goes without saying that, like almost anything, it depends on personal opinion. It depends on the person and what they believe makes a wrestler great; some fans may prefer classic mat wrestling whilst others prefer the lucha style and so who they believe is best will reflect that style. For me,...

Hands up if you remember the WCW Invasion angle back when WWE owner Vince McMahon bought the failing company back in 2001. Now hands up if you were happy with the way Vince and co. handled the whole storyline. Not many of you I’ll bet. What could easily have been the biggest angle in the history of professional wrestling turned into a massive vanity project for the company’s head honcho who outright refused to see those boys from “Dubbya See Dubbya” get the better of any of his creations. It was a huge mistake.
A decade has passed since the horrible Invasion PPV and no one cares to discuss it. Plenty of ex-wcw guys recovered from the failed Invasion (Booker T for example) but many more just faded away into obscurity or simply did not take part (Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, Sting). But what if a similar angle...

Welcome to the latest installment of Tna Review, as it is time for the go-home show before the Lockdown PPV on Sunday. But, before Tna rolls into San Antonio, it is time for the company to build on the upcoming extravaganza to the fullest extent possible. The main headlines of course revolve around Aces & Eights, and after last week’s announcement of the teams for the signature Lethal Lockdown match, will the sides be colliding only a few days before the PPV? Also, with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line between Jeff Hardy and his challenger Bully Ray, will some tension begin to form over the apparent respect that the two competitors have for each other? The title match could use a little antagonism in order to ensure that the main event will be everything that it can possibly be at Lockdown.
Before continuing with the main narrative though,...

On Valentine’s Day, there certainly is nothing better than inviting your best girl round, opening a nice bottle of champagne, and then watching a hard-hitting episode of Impact Wrestling. This week will see Aces & Eights’ response to their defeat at the hands of Bully Ray-Hogan and Sting in tag team tables action. How will they seek retribution, and could it have anything to do with the upcoming Lockdown PPV?
Furthermore, Hulk Hogan announced that there would be a tournament to determine the next challenger to Jeff Hardy for the World Championship, as eight of Impact Wrestling’s very best will go one-on-one to determine who will be the new No.1 Contender. With matches such as Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe and a match between the new Tna Tag Team Champions scheduled, it should be a wild night of fantastic wrestling back once again in jolly old England. So without further ado,...

For the past 12 years World Wrestling Entertainment has been the sole driving force in televised professional wrestling. Say what you will about Tna’s iMPACT Wrestling or the Ring of Honor wrestling promotion, but we can all agree they pale in comparison to the McMahon juggernaut that is the WWE.
So as we approach the month of March in this year of 2013, we come upon the 12th anniversary of Vince McMahon’s acquisition of both the WCW brand, and followed shortly thereafter by his additional purchase of Paul Heyman’s Ecw.
We here at What Culture take a brief look back and we ask: Should both the WCW and Ecw brands finally return?
The Current State of Other Televised Wrestling
There’s no question that the WWE has a stranglehold on the televised world of professional wrestling, with weekly viewers averaging just above 4 million in count. By comparison, Dixie Carter...
