In 2001, actress Karishma Tanna made her acting debut with a TV show, however, she feels that it was after her work in the 2023 release series ‘Scoop’, when people started to take her more seriously as an actor.
“Before ‘Scoop’, people knew me because I was and am in this industry for a long long time but with ‘Scoop’, I got that acting validation, people take me more seriously when it comes to the acting business. So, that’s a good shift in people’s perception. So, I am liking this new phase,” Karishma told Ians on the sidelines of Lfw x Fdci.
The actress was at the event to support the “dreams” and “passion” of aspiring designers.
Asked if she got that “support”, when she was trying to make it in the industry, Karishma said: “No, I had no support because I don’t come from this industry. I had no connections.

The hard hitting crime drama series is based on journalist Jigna Vora’s 2019 memoir “Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison.” Tanna plays the lead role of Jagruti Pathak, a scoop-hunting journalist who is caught in the nexus of the police, the underworld and the media.
Mehta (“Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story”) cast Tanna in the role because in her audition she had “the X factor” and that she “lights up a room.” “It’s an author backed role, it’s a dream come true role,” Tanna told Variety in Busan.

Just a little over a week after Hansal Mehta’s ‘Scoop’ released on streaming platform Netflix, Karishma Tanna, who plays the titular role of crime reporter Jagruti Pathak implicated for the murder of a fellow journalist, made a quick weekend trip with husband Varun Bangera to Dubai. Within minutes of clearing passport control, Tanna found herself surrounded with smiling faces and friendly greetings from fellow travellers who had watched the series.
Once the word spread that the actor was on her way to the exit gates, crowds swelled up. “I was shocked! The following day I was out on a dinner date, and we had people walking up to us constantly with very kind compliments,” says Tanna.
For Tanna she had to undertake the toughest preparation of her life for the part.

Creator and director Hansal Mehta shared anecdotes of filming the series in an IMDb Exclusive.
Speaking of the process of filming Scoop, Hansal Mehta said, “Scoop deals with a pet world of mine which is a Gujarati joint family. The aspirations that come from within that small unit. It’s an exploration into our current times through the story of Jagruti Pathak. It’s the story of Jagruti, an ambitious journalist who wants a story at any cost. It’s an exploration of ambition, of aspiration.”
“I think what we’ve done through this entire journey is to show that Jagruti, being a reporter, then becomes the reported. Good stories allow room for introspection, and I think that’s...

Scoop
Hansal Mehta’s Scoop is simultaneously an expose on unethical practices in media exposes and also a savage expose on how ambitious women are treated in predominantly male-dominated professions. Crime reporting is most assuredly a mail domain, and certainly no place for a single mother. This, Jagruti Pathak( the name given to crime reporter Jigna Vora who was accused in the murder of fellow crime reporter J Dey) found out the hard way.
Hansal Mehta’s research is remarkably rigorous. He has Jigna Vora’s memoir Behind Bars In Byculla: My Days In Prison to fall back on. But Mehta doesn’t go by the book. When has he ever? The series probes deep into the wounds and failings of the Indian media , the police force and crime investigative agencies without getting judgemental.
The nearly-flawless flow of the drama is undiluted by unnecessary diversion. Even at almost eight hours,...
