Magnolia Pictures and Participant have partnered to jointly acquire North American rights to “The Grab,” a new documentary from “Blackfish” director Gabriela Cowperthwaite.
The film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, follows journalists from The Center for Investigative Reporting as they work high-profile sources and utilize a cache of secret data to uncover the money and influence being used by countries, corporations and members of the uber-elite to control the planet’s most vital resources. Participant and Magnolia are positioning the film as a “high-stakes global thriller,” one that takes viewers from Arizona to Zambia as the moviemakers examine the food and water scarcity that’s resulting from this little-known power grab.
“We’re thrilled to reunite with our good friends at Participant and the great Gabriela Cowperthwaite who has, yet again, brought to light a nail biting, explosive, and essential story,” said Magnolia Pictures co-ceo’s Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley.

A: Something or someone that foreshadows a future event,
B: One that initiates a major change: gives an anticipatory sign of what’s to come.
The Curse Of Rosalie from director Will Klipstine, who also stars in the lead role of Daniel Snyder, is an interesting and dense watch. The movie explores so many different elements of horror, crime, demons, tokens, ancient Native American curses and creepy small town neighbors along with a number of twists and turns that you don’t want to blink for a second.
The film starts in familiar territory with a seemingly ‘normal’ young couple moving to a new small town with their troubled young daughter, Rosalie (Madeleine McGraw). You see, Rosalie has endured a fairly recent change which leaves her now with a bit of a nasty chip on her shoulder – to put it mildly. She is very quiet, brooding and not...

Former Screenwest head of development and production Rikki Lea Bestall will return to the organisation as its new CEO, succeeding Willie Rowe.
A graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (Waapa), Bestall spent more than eight years at Screenwest – during which she also worked as director of development and development manager – before leaving in 2018.
Prior to joining the organisation, she was the VP for features at Kransnoff/Foster Entertainment and worked in multiple production roles, both domestically and overseas.
Bestall told If the timing of her appointment presented an opportunity to work with the industry and key stakeholders to develop new areas of growth, fuelled by the government’s “unprecedented” commitment to the industry.

Ahead of the state election in March, the Western Australian government has committed to launch a $20 million production attraction fund and to develop a $100 million studio and sound stage in Fremantle.
The announcement has been hailed as a “game-changer” by Screenwest, who has long advocated for both.
If re-elected, the McGowan Government will oversee investment in the development of a studio complex located in Fremantle’s Victoria Quay.
The proposed facility would service screen production, games, and immersive technologies across the local screen industry, as well as interstate and international productions in Wa.
Screenwest worked with the state government after it announced a market-led tender process for the facility late last year to ensure the studio’s development would meet the needs of the Wa screen industry.
In the long-term, the studio is expected to support approximately 2,800 film production and precinct hospitality jobs each year.

It can be such a beautiful happening when the natural forces of humanity and the wild kingdom can get together and establish a sense of harmony in motion pictures. Also, it can be a compelling yet regrettable conflict as well when man and beast decide to collide in the interest of big screen entertainment. Whatever the case may be certainly does not matter because the concept of beasts of all species (rather it be of the four-legged or two-legged variety) collectively clashing or cooperating sends a special message about triumph, tragedy and just plain tenderness.
