Exclusive: Noah Media, producer of Netflix’s 14 Peaks and Sky’s Villeneuve Pironi, has restructured to focus on international docs and laid off a small number of staff.
The London outfit has in the past few months transitioned from a “UK sports-based production company into an international documentary producer,” according to a statement from CEO and co-founder John McKenna.
“This will see us transition from a staff-based to a more freelance-based model, in line with the norm across the factual production space,” said McKenna. “This has unfortunately meant some redundancies in the past few months for some employees we think are fantastic colleagues and people.”
For the year to March 31 2023, Noah had around 45 staff, according to its latest accounts. It will offer “freelance project-specific contracts” for employees who have lost jobs where possible, McKenna added, and he said this has already happened for some of those laid off.

Zany caper follows Jo Hartley as a big-veg enthusiast defending her patch from elaborate ill-doings
Chaos reigns in this strange, funny and amiably anarchic mockumentary about dirty tricks in the cutthroat world of competitive marrow-growing, written and co-directed by film-maker Brook Driver. Maybe the script could have gone through another couple of drafts, but that might have removed some of the flavour. As it is, it feels like Thomas Pynchon had emailed Ricky Gervais an idea he’d had for a British comedy, and the result certainly has some laughs.
Jo Hartley (a stalwart of Shane Meadows’s movies Dead Man’s Shoes and This Is England) is Caroline, a marrow-grower and a divorcee who pretends her ex-husband is dead and is now in a kind of Nsa relationship with her needy neighbour Willy (Celyn Jones); they are both mates with conspiracy theorist and fanatically competitive prize-veg enthusiast Paul (Richard Lumsden...

Interview
Former Chancellor and U.K. Prime Ministerial hopeful Rishi Sunak will be interviewed live on Channel 4, the British broadcaster whose privatization he has vowed to go ahead with. Sunak will be interviewed on a special episode of “The Andrew Neil Show” on July 29, after “Channel 4 News.” The program will be made by ITN Productions.
The other remaining candidate for Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, has been invited for an interview but has so far declined to take part. “The invitation remains open,” Channel 4 said.
A peak audience of more than two million people tuned in to the Channel 4 Conservative leadership debate, the first TV debate in the contest to be Britain’s next Prime Minister. Sunak and Truss face off on a TV debate on the BBC on June 25, presented by Sophie Raworth, with analysis from BBC political editor Chris Mason and BBC economics editor Faisal Islam.

Exclusive: The story of Black British boxing sensation Len Johnson is to be told in a feature film from Rush exec Guy East, written by the “godmother of Black British playwrights” Winsome Pinnock.
Champion is the first major project from UK commercials producer MindsEye’s two-year-old film and TV division and is based on Rob Howard’s book Boxing’s Uncrowned Champion – Len Johnson and the Colour Bar.
Johnson was one of the top middleweight boxers in the 1920s and 1930s but was denied his dream of becoming a British boxing champion due to the ‘colour bar’, the rule that stated only white fighters could claim championship status.
He fought tirelessly against this injustice and his determined activism led to the ‘colour bar’ being overturned, clearing the pathway for multiple future Black British champions. Last year, a petition to have a statue erected in his hometown of Manchester was signed...

Floyd Mayweather is unquestionably one of the world’s best-known athletes.
His fights are big-time sporting events, regularly attended by the likes of Jack Nicholson, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Leonardo Di Caprio, and provide a huge boost to the Las Vegas economy as tens of thousands flock to Sin City to revel in the big occasion. This will again be the case on Saturday as millions await his rematch with tough Argentine Marcos Maidana.
Mayweather, for so long a fighter who seemed nigh-on untouchable in the ring, last fought in May, and although he was rightly awarded the decision many were surprised to see him struggle to suppress Maidana’s fearless challenge. It is too early to assume that Mayweather – now 37 – is now in decline, but he is certainly nearing the end of a glittering career of almost unparalleled success.

The talk of the boxing clubs and in fans’ homes from now until Saturday evening will not be about the World Cup or the PGA tour, because there’s only one event that matters right now; what will be on everyone’s lips is the rematch between Carl Froch and George Groves. Billed as the biggest British boxing fight ever with 80,000 fans attending the contest at Wembley Stadium, the fight has captured the entire country’s attention.
Whether you’re a hardcore fan or a casual fight fan everyone has an opinion on the clash that feels more personal than anything else in recent years, which makes the fight so special. The last time the majority of the Britain were eager for a fight on Saturday night was back in 2007 when the Brits took over Las Vegas as Ricky Hatton faced Floyd Mayweather.

Manny Pacquiao is no doubt a lock for the boxing hall of fame; he quite rightly will go down as one of the greatest pound for pound fighters of all time. Many of us will remember the nights where he pummelled Oscar De La Hoya for 8 punishing rounds and sending the all-time great American in to retirement, or the night where he knocked Ricky Hatton unconscious in front of a raucous crowd at the MGM Grand, sending the likeable Mancunian into an early retirement also. Perhaps many will remember him as a hero, and remember him for the punishment he administered to Antonio Margarito following his return from the ban he received for wearing illegal hand wraps against Shane Mosley in 2009.
Some other notable victims of the lightning quick Pacman’s fists of fury were Cotto, Margarito, Clottey, Morales and Mosley to name just a few.

Let's Dance for Sport Relief host Alex Jones has said that she is saddened by suggestions that Sir Bruce Forsyth is too old for Strictly Come Dancing.
Speaking to Digital Spy, the One Show presenter - who finished fifth in the 2011 series of Strictly - said that people should "bow down" to the 84-year-old light entertainment legend, rather than try to force him out.

“Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years” – A line made famous by LLCoolJ on ‘Mamma Said Knock You Out’; a track that was to become one of the defining moments of ‘Uncle L’s’ genre defying, long career. The content and the delivery was fuelled by decreasing commercial sales and negative critical reviews of his preceding bodies of work raising questions over LL’s ability to make hard-hitting, relevant hip hop at the time. The gauntlet had been thrown down in the mind of James Todd Smith and the tone for the majority of the album, from the iconic album cover to the shadow boxing video for the title track, was one of a fight. A fight to regain LL’s previously lofty position of one of Hip Hop’s most respected artists. His key message being put forth in the first line of the...

Ricky Hatton's father has been arrested for allegedly assaulting him. The attack is said to have taken place on Thursday, the day before the former world boxing champion announced his return to the ring in November. The BBC reports that Hatton had to protect himself after 61-year-old dad Ray attacked him in the middle of a heated argument. The fight is said to have taken place in the car park outside the boxer's gym in Hyde, Manchester. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 11.45am on Thursday, police received reports that there had been a fight involving two men outside a health and fitness club on Market Street, Hyde. "A 33-year-old man was assaulted by a 61-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of common assault (more)...

It had been rumored for some time, but it was left to 'The Hitman' himself to confirm it at an exclusive press conference organised by his namesake promotions company, Hatton Promotions.
After more than three years out of the ring - albeit just one of official retirement - Ricky Hatton will once again don the gloves of war and return to the professional boxing circuit on the 24th November, 2012. At the moment, his opponent is tbc - some believed it may be Paul Malignaggi, the current Wba Welterweight Champion whom Ricky defeated back in 2008 - but the likelihood is that Hatton's camp will prefer to ease him back into boxing with a smaller, easier opponent.
Unfortunately, as is the case with any return from retirement, the doubters remain. Many believe that Hatton is past it, and that this return can only bring more demise to an otherwise successful career. However,...

Channel 5′s new revamp of Big Brother will kick off one week from today with a new Celebrity version and images of the new house have been revealed today. The plush, newly designed house rests on the same location in Elstree, Herts that housed the Channel 4 series for a decade and this time includes a fully kitted out gym, a pool in the garden and brightly coloured bedroom and living rooms.
Doesn’t seem to bad really for a two week (or less… first eviction will take place on the day after housemates enter the house!) holiday which these stars are getting paid multi-millions of dollars for. I wonder who will be the first contestant to bang their head off that bridge (or dive in from it).

Gerard Butler apparently hides a hot body behind his leaner physique. The King Leonidas of "300" has been losing some weight for new movie "Mavericks", but when he took off his shirt to trade it with a Celtic jersey, he gave a full look at his ripped abs and chiseled arms.
The 41-year-old hunk was photographed changing his clothes in a locker room of the Celtic soccer team before a charity soccer match in Glasgow, Scotland on Tuesday, August 9. Wearing only a pair of low-hanging white shorts, he goofed off by making a funny face while sticking out his tongue.
On Tuesday, Gerard helped a team of former Glasgow Celtic stars beat a group of retired Manchester United players 5-2 in a game benefiting Oxfam's East Africa Famine Appeal. The star of "The Bounty Hunter" was joined in the match by the likes of boxer Ricky Hatton, Blue's Simon Webbe and members of The View.

British newspapers are claiming that Charlie Sheen is the first major star to sign up to the newly revamped Celebrity Big Brother that will be relaunched at it’s new home on Channel 5 later this month. Although Channel 5 are refusing to confirm the deal, the capture of the actor seems likely and perhaps gives the new version of Bb some credibility that the channel can attract the big names as the media’s take on their acquisition of Endemol’s reality t.v. series has so far been one of ‘who cares?’.
The former Two and a Half Men actor was of course fired earlier this year from his £1.2 million per episode deal following a feud with creator Chuck Lorre and his unprofessional behaviour and revelations about his cocaine abuse & sexual deviances came to light.

If even half of the rumours are true about this year’s Celebrity Big Brother series, then viewers really are in for a treat.
Insiders claim that Channel 5 are going all out to get some big named stars in the house and the latest celeb to be linked to the reality TV show is troubled actor Charlie Sheen.
Charlie hit the headlines recently, after he was sacked from his £1.2 million per episode job on American comedy ‘Two and a Half Men’, after he was constantly featured in tabloids and magazines who reported on his liaisons with porn stars and alcohol and cocaine binges.
It has been claimed that Five and Endemol have now offered Sheen a whopping £6 million to join Big Brother, when it re-launches on the 17th of August.

He said: “I’ve been asked to do the dancing and the skating, but my footwork is not as good on the ice as it is in the ring.
“I’ll pick ‘Strictly’ on the condition that they let me wear my gloves. It’ll make me feel at home a bit more.”

British boxing champion Ricky Hatton is set to be a dad again, just months after completing a stint in rehab. The sports star hit headlines in September 2010 when photographs of him allegedly snorting cocaine in a hotel room were published in a U.K. Tabloid.
The former Wba Welterweight Champion admitted he had been "dabbling" with drugs and subsequently checked into London's The Priory clinic, before leaving a month later, October 2010. Now, Hatton and his fiancee Jennifer Dooley are focusing on happier news after learning they will become parents this summer.
Hatton tells Britain's The Sun, "I'm looking forward to becoming a father again - and I'm excited that Jenny's going to become a mother. I think she'll make a great mum. She has been my rock and has stood through me (sic) during some difficult times." The star is already dad to 10-year-old Campbell from a previous relationship.

Here's a grat collection of screenshots and a few trailers from the new boxing video game Fight Night: Champion show you the detailed realistic damage that you can inflict on your boxing oponent. I've always been a big fan of these Fight Night games, and it looks like they've once again taken it to a whole new level bloody boxing carnage.
The single-player mode is intended to recreate the dramatic and emotional aspects of the sport.
A new mode called "Champion Mode" will be featured in the game. It revolves around a storyline which follows a boxer named Andre Bishop. Most other modes, such as Legacy Mode (the career mode of the series) are expected to return.
EA is promising a refined physics-based animation system and a new "Full Spectrum Punch Control" scheme. There will also be a demo launching on both Xbox Live and Psn on the 1st of February.

Shamed British boxing champion Ricky Hatton has apologised to fans in his first TV interview since he was embroiled in a drugs scandal - insisting "sorry is not a big enough word".
The sports star hit headlines earlier this month when photographs of him snorting cocaine in a hotel room were published by U.K. tabloid the News of the World.
The former Wba Welterweight Champion, who checked into rehab last Monday, has given his first TV interview to Britain's Daybreak show and admitted he began "dabbling" in drugs following a series of "humiliating" defeats, including his infamous knockout during a bout with Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao last year.

British boxing star Ricky Hatton is "facing the biggest fight" of his life after he vowed to enter rehab amid allegations he is hooked on cocaine.
Photographs obtained by Britain's News of the World purportedly showed the former Wba Welterweight Champion pouring a white substance on a tabletop and cutting up lines, before bending over and snorting it.
Irish national senior women's boxing champion Emma Bowe, who was with the star on the night the snaps were taken last month, told the publication that Hatton - known as The Hitman - would "kill himself" if he carried on with his current lifestyle.
And the fighter has admitted he has a problem - apologising to fans and insisting he will overcome his demons.
He tells Britain's The Sun, "I've been in a bad place for some time. It's all down to me. I feel I have let everyone down especially all my fans in the country who have always supported me.
"I know I've got to make it better. I've now got the biggest fight of my life."
His publicist Max Clifford has announced that plans are being put in place for the ex-champ to seek help in rehab.
The rep adds, "It's become apparent to those closest to him over recent weeks and months that Ricky had a drink problem. Clearly it was worse than that. His family are obviously very concerned for him and have become increasingly so.
"Ricky has given them an assurance he will go into rehab in a matter of days. I think it is fair to say, friends and family have been trying to warn him in recent times, for the last few months. And now they are all hoping this situation will bring him to his senses."...
