“American Idol” may be a platform for aspiring unknown singers to showcase their talent outside of their bedrooms, but some contestants may have an advantage over others: being born into famous families.
Season 21 has already shown several so-called “Nepo Babies” — contestants with ties to the entertainment business — competing for the crown, including Kaya Stewart, daughter of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics (pictured).
“With all your different opportunities and connections and stuff, how did you even land on ‘American Idol?’” Judge Katy Perry asked before her audition.
It’s a fair question, but “nepo babies” competing on “American Idol” is nothing new. In the past, the offspring of parents with varying backgrounds from music, acting, sports, and politics have all found their way in front of the judges.

“American Idol” crowned a new winner last night (May 22). Twenty-year old Louisa, Kentucky native Noah Thompson sealed the deal with a sultry performance of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire” and his original song, “One Day Tonight.” He beat out fellow country artist, HunterGirl.
After Thompson’s rendition of “I’m on Fire” — from Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” album — judge Katy Perry foreshadowed his victory. “So many people have fallen in love during that song, used it as their first-dance song,” she said. “I think you just swooped in and grabbed every heart in America by singing that song.”
Thompson also performed Rihanna’s “Stay,” his out-of-the-box pick from early in the season, and delivered a perfect duet with powerhouse Melissa Etheridge for her hit, “I’m The Only One.”

In the words of Ryan Seacrest, America has voted and the winner is... Noah Thompson. On May 22, the 20-year-old was crowned the winner of American Idol season 20, beating out finalists Huntergirl and Leah Marlene. (Don't worry, there's no bad blood: The singers eagerly cheered on their friend after all was said and done.) The season finale started off with the contestants performing their own takes on classic Bruce Springsteen songs, like "Dancing in the Dark" and "Born in the USA." Those renditions were followed by performances of original songs, which they wrote during the season. Throughout...

American Idol crowned another winner Sunday, and it was a country music showdown for the ages.
ABC went live coast-to-coast to allow the final three the opportunity to make a plea for America's vote.
Thanks to the excessive three-hour runtime, the episode was overstuffed, but hey, at least we got some great musical performances along the way.
Even after all these years, the former Fox reality series still knows how to deliver show-stopping performances, thanks to the wide array of talent the producers reel in to take part.
Leah Marlene kicked off the show in thrilling fashion with a rendition of Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA," a performance that garnered the 20-year-old much praise from the judges.
"What big boots you have stepped into," Lionel Richie said, clearly impressed by the immense talent on the show this year.
Katy Perry declared Marlene to be "the whole package," which...

I was not a fan of any of the original songs tonight, but more on that later. Congratulations to all of the final three, who I am sure have bright futures ahead of them. I will say that my favorite performance of the night came from the entire top 10 joined by Flo Rida and the performance of “Smile” by Christian Guardino and Michael Bublé, which I need on my IPod now. So for the last time this season, hit your lights and let’s go!

“American Idol’s” Disney Night turned out to be the end of the road for three talented contestants: country crooner Mike Parker, pop artist Emyrson Flora and soul singer Lady K. In our recent poll, we asked “Idol” viewers to tell us which of three eliminees was most robbed of a spot in next week’s Top 7, and the poll results are in. Mike led with 35 of the vote, compared to Emyrson at 27 and Lady K at 24; the other 14 of respondents chose the “None of them” option.
In our comments section, “American Idol” watcher Donna A Gerken said, “Mike got robbed … love his voice.” Fellow fan Elaine Hamilton chimed in, “I am so so sorry Mike Parker was eliminated. I say to Mike, please keep going this is not the end for you, when God closes a door he opens a window. Keep achieving and aiming high. You will get there.

“American Idol” continued with the 15th episode of Season 20 on Monday, April 25. This installment of the ABC reality TV competition saw the Top 11 singing judge’s songs chosen by Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Each contestant was given three options, one from each judge. They then chose one song to sing for America’s votes without knowing which judge picked it.
At the end of the night Lady K and Tristen Gressett landed at the bottom. Since Katy and Luke tied with the most contestants choosing their song selections, they got to decide which artist to save. “Who’s gonna pay for my extra hour of therapy?” Katy Perry asked on the April 25 episode of “American Idol” after her former John Mayer relationship was brought up on live television. (Watch the video below.) To recap, it was “Judges’ Song Contest” night on “Idol,” which meant Katy, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan chose songs for the Top 11 singers to perform. After each contestant picked a song and performed it on the big stage, they had to guess which of the three judges was the one who suggested it. Country crooner Noah Thompson performed Mayer’s “Heartbreak Warfare,” which was actually chosen by Luke. But Noah thought it was Katy who picked the song.
“Noah, I feel like maybe you should Wikipedia me,” Katy deadpanned as her fellow judges laughed beside her.
“That’s a big no?” Noah asked her, unaware that Katy and John had dated from 2012 to 2015. “A big no?...

Of this week’s three “American Idol” contestants who were eliminated from the Top 14, fans think pop artist Allegra Miles was most robbed of a spot in the Top 11. Following the eliminations of Scarlet, Danielle Finn and Sir Blayke on Sunday night, only the Top 20 singers remain in the running to win this landmark 20th season of “American Idol” on ABC. Viewers voted in our overnight poll that asked which of these three ousted artists was most robbed of a spot in the Top 20, and the results are in. With 25, Scarlet nabbed more votes than her fellow contestants. Danielle followed at 22, and then Sir Blayke trailed at 16. However, the plurality of respondents (37) actually thought that “None of them” were robbed this week. Here are the complete poll results:

16 — Sir Blayke
