The results of the first Eurimages Project Evaluation Session of 2024 have been unveiled and among the batch of European-based filmmakers to receive some much-appreciated coin we find Tarik Saleh’s Eagles of the Republic, Carla Simon’s Romería, Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value, Agnieszka Holland’s Franz, Amanda Kernell’s The Curse, a Love Story and Hafsia Herzi’s The Last One. For the most part, these projects are expected to move into production as early as this spring and get major film festival premieres starting in 2025. 26 fiction films received coin with five docu projects. New projects from directors including Agnieszka Holland, Carla Simon, Joachim Trier, Amanda Kernell and Tarik Saleh are among 26 features to receive backing from Eurimages’ in its latest round of co-production funding.
The 26 features – including five documentaries and one animation – have shared a total of €7m funding. Fourteen are to be directed by women.

The Venice Film Market will showcase 15 projects seeking completion financing.
Now in its second year, the Venice Film Market’s European Gap-Financing Market, which runs September 4-5 in 2015, will highlight 15 film in search of completion funding.
To qualify, each film must already have secured 70% of its financing. They will have the opportunity to close their international funding by having one-on-one meetings with potential financiers, distributors, sales agents, post-production companies and film funds.
Last year, the Vfm welcomed 261 distributors and 66 sales agents to the market. A total of 1,500 film professionals from 57 countries attended.

The 5th Jagran Film Festival, to be held from September 22-28 in Mumbai, will host a Retrospective of Bimal Roy. His films, Sujata, Do Bigha Zameen, Madhumati, Devdas and Bandini will be screened at the festival.
This will mark the final leg of Jagran Film Festival which has traveled across 16 cities. The films will be screened at PVR Andheri and Cinemax Versova.
The festival will open with The Woods are Still Green, an Austrian feature film directed by Marko Nabersnik, set during the first World War.
The festival will present a special section of films on the First World War on the occasion of the war’s centennial. Mostofa S. Farooki’s Ant Story and John Carney’s Begin Again are among the films that will compete for the Golden Goblet Award at this year’s Shanghai International Film Festival (Siff).
Begin Again was recently acquired for Chinese distribution by Ivanhoe Pictures and Beijing Galloping Horse, while Ant Story premiered at last year’s Dubai International Film Festival.
Organisers said the full Golden Goblet line-up has yet to be announced but will also include Volker Schlöndorff’s Diplomatie; Thai filmmaker Tom Waller’s The Last Executioner; Greek filmmaker Pantelis Voulgaris’ Mikra Anglia; Maiko wa Lady, from Japan’s Masayuki Suo; Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig’s Predestination (Australia); Jeanne Herry’s She Adores Him (France); Mehdi Rahmani’s Snow (Iran); Zhang Meng’s The Uncle Victory (China); and Marko Nabersnik’s The Woods Are Still Green (Germany).

A record 67 countries have submitted films for consideration for best foreign-language film for the 81st Academy Awards, Academy president Sid Ganis said Friday. Nominations will be announced on Thursday, Jan. 22, and the awards will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 22.

Moscow -- "Rooster's Breakfast" (Petelinji Zajtrk), written and directed by Marko Nabersnik and produced by the company Arsmedia, has been chosen as Slovenia's entry in the foreign-language Oscar race, out of five movies that applied, the Association of Slovenian Filmmakers said.
Based on the novel by Feri Lainscek, "Rooster's Breakfast" was Slovenia's boxoffice champion of 2007. It also received the best writer, the best director and the best actor awards at Slovenia's main film festival, Portoroz.
