Narrative Completion: A Fitting End to The 100 The journey of The 100 was always about survival, but every story has its end. The showrunners decided that Season 7 was the right time to wrap up this post-apocalyptic saga. With the series concluding on its 100th episode, it’s almost poetic how the numbers lined up. Jason Rothenberg, the series creator, had a vision for the show’s trajectory. There’s a bunch of things in this episode that are like obviously set up for the big — what we now know to be the big finish of the show next year, Season...

The 100 is an American post-apocalyptic science fiction drama television series. The series ran for seven seasons on The CW Television Network between 19 March 2014 and 30 September 2020. The series is loosely based on a novel series of the same name written by Kass Morgan. The 100 was developed by Jason Rothenberg. The series follows post-apocalyptic survivors from a space habitat, called the Ark, who return to Earth ninety-seven years after a devastating nuclear apocalypse. While on the Ark, three generations have been born, but life-support systems in the habitat begin to fail. This causes the people on...

The long-in-the works spinoff of The 100 that refused to die for two years is now officially over at the CW.
The prequel, from The 100 developer/executive producer/showrunner Jason Rothenberg, started as a backdoor pilot in the seventh and final season of The CW drama, and was greenlighted in October 2019.
The project did not go to series in May 2020 but was kept alive. As Deadline has reported, the scenario that was discussed on and off for The 100 prequel was a joint run on the CW and HBO Max. That remained the path that was pursued for the project until the end.
In his most recent update in May of this year, the CW president Mark Pedowitz gave fans hope.
“There are still discussions going on — it is not done in any way, shape or form,” he said during The CW’s upfront press call. “The discussions are still happening.

Clarke Griffin’s fight may be over after Wednesday’s series finale, but our days in the world of The 100 aren’t necessarily numbered.
The status of the sci-fi drama’s proposed spinoff, potentially titled The 100: Second Dawn, remains “up in the air,” showrunner Jason Rothenberg tells TVLine. “The conversations are now happening at such a high level, they don’t include me. We are finally at the end, and it's about time.
To say this wasn't the show that the audience knew and loved is an understatement. It isn't clear what show this was, but at least it is finally over.
Up until the very end, The 100 decided to dig its heels into a storyline that made no sense, which means the resolution was lackluster, and the happy ending was nowhere to be found.
It felt very fitting to be so emotionally removed from a series finale, especially when most of this final chapter didn't tune into the feelings that mattered.
During The 100 Season 7 Episode 16, Clarke fails the test, and then one speech about peace makes humanity worthy of transcendence. Everyone ends up looking like yellow waving inflatable arm flailing tube men from car dealerships, and Clarke ends up alone.

This The 100 article contains Major spoilers for the ending of the series.
Who had “Most of Humanity Will Turn Into Groot-Shaped Beings of Energy?” on The 100 series finale Bingo card? If so, you guessed it! The CW series has finally come to an end and, after seven seasons, showrunner (and episode director) Jason Rothenberg has written a Battlestar Galactica-like ending that attempts to tie all the bloodshed that has come before up with a neat, tidy bow. Does the episode accomplish that? Not entirely. Let’s break down The 100 finale…
Clarke Sees Lexa, Fails The Test
Let’s be honest: we all knew Clarke was going to fail this test, right? The Commander of Death literally enters the test pier by murdering Cadogan. He had it coming, but it isn’t a particularly auspicious middle for humanity’s bid for transcendence onto a higher plane of existence. The choice...

Hey, "The 100" fans. We're jumping back on here, tonight, to do one last article in honor of The 100. Tonight's episode 16 was the last episode forever because this 7th season is indeed the very last season. The show is over forever. This very sad news broke in August of 2019. This was not The CW's decision. The 100 producers actually decided to end the show on their own. Recently, the folks over at Collider.com got to ask The 100 showrunner Jason Rothenberg why they decided to end the show with season 7.

Warning: Spoilers follow for the series finale of The CW’s “The 100.”
“The 100” came to a close after seven seasons on Wednesday night, but there’s still some unpacking to be done about that extremely emotional series finale.
We asked showrunner Jason Rothenberg, who wrote and directed that final episode “The Last War,” all of our lingering questions — so you don’t have to wonder. Our first one was a no-brainer…
Why wasn’t Clarke allowed to transcend with everybody else?
“Clarke is the angel of death in the finale,” Rothenberg said. “As Lexa avatar said to her in the very end, nobody in the history of any species in the universe has ever committed murder during the test. So there was always a kind of Moses story that we were going for with Clarke where she’s not allowed to go into the promised land at the end of the story.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains details about tonight’s series finale for the CW’s The 100, “The Last War.”
We caught up with The 100 series creator Jason Rothenberg to ask him about some of tonight’s special guests, and what’s next in the series franchise.
Deadline: Tonight you brought back Lexa. After you killed her off, there was plenty of controversy, but was it always your intention to bring her back? Were there any loose ends you needed to tie up between her and Clarke?
Jason Rothenberg: Once we decided that the role of the judge during the test was someone who assumes the shape of the person that was your greatest love, your greatest teacher, or your greatest enemy, then it was a no brainer that it was going to be Lexa for Clarke. Then it just became a producing challenge to get her to come back.

Warning: This post contains spoilers from “The 100” series finale.
Wednesday’s series finale of The CW’s “The 100” packed plenty of drama, but one particularly heart-wrenching scene between Levitt (Jason Diaz) and Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) had to be “sacrificed” at the last minute, showrunner Jason Rothenberg told TheWrap.
Don’t worry, we know exactly what you missed.
The finale was shot in early March just before the production shutdown, forcing the episode to be shot over two days instead of the originally intended three. Rothenberg, who served as writer and director for the ending to the sci-fi drama’s seven-season run, says he got to fit just about everything he wanted into that shocking finale episode — except for one “emotional” scene that we’ll never get to see.

“The Last War” reached an unexpected conclusion in Wednesday’s series finale of The 100, which put the entire human race — what’s left of it, anyway — on trial. TVLine spoke with showrunner Jason Rothenberg about the episode’s biggest developments, but first, a quick recap:
With the code in his possession, Cadogan prepared to take the ultimate test, facing a celestial “judge” who took the form of Callie. And he might have stood a chance, had Clarke not busted in and shot him from behind. (“Pencils down.”) With Cadogan indisposed, Clarke stepped up to finish the test, facing her...

Tonight, a long quest for survival comes to an end. The 100 is saying goodbye after seven seasons and if the past few episodes (and the past seven seasons) are any indication, it's not going to go out with a straight up happy ending. That's simply not The 100's style, as showrunner Jason Rothenberg reminded us when we pointed out how particularly cruel the show has been these past few weeks. First Diyoza (Ivana Milicevic) sacrificed herself, then Clarke (Eliza Taylor) killed Bellamy (Bob Morley) to protect Madi (Lola Flanery), then Madi essentially became catatonic. It's a lot! "We've never been kind in that way," Rothenberg said. "We have always tried to have the...

The final season of The 100 let down its leads and the relationship that drove the story for six seasons.
With one episode or the last five minutes of it, The 100 found itself ruining the legacy that it spent all this time building.
Bellamy Blake was the heart of the show; he made the audience care more than anything else could have. Bellamy and Clarke's love for one another always made sure that things made sense, no matter what was happening that season.
Bellamy and Clarke's connection drove each season, whether through conflict or them working together to get to the end. The showrunner himself admitted that their relationship drives the narrative and that their bond is the center of the story.
So it was surprising, to say the least, to see the exact opposite of that during The 100 Season 7 Episode 13, with Clarke making the ridiculous choice to kill Bellamy.

The 100 Season 7 Episode 15
For the second time in as many episodes, Octavia responded to Clarke with sedate, stoic grief when something more like shrieking in horror and despair would have been appropriate. Watching the two women repeatedly bond over their adopted daughters in the latter half of this season was a nice evolution in their relationship. But it’s hard to square one of those conversations with what happened just moments later, when Clarke decided shooting her daughter in the head was the only option and Octavia’s only counter was essentially, “No, let me.”
Truly, what has happened to this show?
In a moment that feels reminiscent of Handmaid’s Tale’s penchant for torturing not only its characters but its audience, Clarke found Madi on Bardo alive but unmoving, able to see and hear her but not able to move or respond. Clarke...

The body count continues to pile up on The 100.
The 100 Season 7 Episode 14, which aired Wednesday on The CW, featured another tragic death.
"A Sort of Homecoming" found Clarke, Gabriel, Madi, and the others arriving on Earth as they tried to find shelter in the bunker.
Unfortunately, Sheidheda arrived, with the aim of taking down Madi. J.R. Bourne's alter ego had one of the suits from Bardo on, so he was invisible.
While Gabriel taught Madi how to play the piano, he was mortally wounded by Sheidheda.
He managed to get back up and fight off Sheidheda, providing enough time for Madi to break free and find Gaia and Indra for assistance.
Unfortunately, it was game over for Chuku Modu's Gabriel, who succumbed to his injuries.
It was a powerful goodbye, with Gabrielle claiming he was ready to leave his life behind, and given that he's been around for hundreds of years,...

The 100 said goodbye to another beloved character Wednesday night, and it set the wheels in motion for a wild conclusion.
If you watch The 100 online, you know that Clarke made the fateful decision to kill her ride or die Bellamy, in what can only be described as one of the show's most polarizing scenes.
Now, Bob Morley, who plays Bellamy has opened up about being written off the series ahead of the series finale.

We're in mourning, The 100 fans.
The 100 Season 7 Episode 13 aired Wednesday night, and by the end, we were forced to say goodbye to Bellamy Blake all over again.
If you watch The 100 online, you know Bob Morley's alter ego cheated death earlier this season, but this latest twist in the tale is something that shocked us to the core.
Who would have thought that Clarke would kill her ride or die?
Jason Rothenberg, the showrunner of the hit series, took to social media after the wild episode aired, and he stands by the decision.
"For seven seasons, The 100 has been a show about the dark things that humanity will do to survive and the toll those deeds take on our heroes’ souls,” Rothenberg tweeted.
“We knew Bellamy’s death had to go to the heart of what the show was all about: Survival. Who you’re willing to protect.

The 100 Season 7 is here!
Sadly, this will be the last outing for The 100. CW President Mark Pedowitz confirmed during the network’s 2019 Summer TCA press tour appearance that The 100 season 7 will be the show’s final season, though it may live on in a prequel series.
As a midseason premiere, The 100 was one of the lucky shows to wrap up production before the Covid-19 hit, so we will be getting an entire season of the science fiction drama. Production on Season 7 started back up in August and wrapped in March, so the entire season is good to go, unlike some other CW productions that had to shut down production before the season finished.
Here’s our review of the latest episode, “Etherea.”
What’s next? “The Stranger.” Check out the promo below…

Everything that Charmaine Diyoza was is everything that we want to be.
From the second, she crashed into The 100 universe; it was apparent that we were in the presence of an extraordinary woman.
Diyoza had a full circle storyline, from her time as the new big bad to the familiar hero that we had to root for, all in just three seasons. She was a chilling antagonist, who only needed some much-deserved screentime to showcase her development.
It all accumulated into a The 100 Season 7 arc that focused on Diyoza's journey as a mother. She was able to find momentary peace with Hope and Octavia on Sky Ring during The 100 Season 7 Episode 2, and from there, things took a turn.
But Diyoza took it in a stride, doing everything she could to get back to her daughter. But time dilation made that reunion different than either of them expected, but still just as emotional.

“Where in the universe is Bellamy Blake?” That’s it. That’s the entire synopsis for The 100‘s Aug. 12 episode (The CW, 8/7c). And it looks like our first clue can be found in the revealing hour’s official promo.
The promo for the episode, titled “Etherea,” finds Bob Morley‘s character doing whatever it takes — including chowing down on a tasty scorpion — to survive life on a hellish planet, presumably named Etherea. “There is a way off this planet,” Bellamy insists. “I’m not afraid!” (Well, that makes one of us.)

While we anticipated that The 100‘s final season would bring its share of major deaths, we honestly didn’t see this week’s tragic twist coming. And we never could have predicted that this particular character’s death would affect us so deeply.
We’re speaking, of course, about Charmaine Diyoza — the ruthless terrorist-turned-mama bear played by Ivana Milicevic. In the final moments of Wednesday’s episode, Diyoza sacrificed herself to save her daughter’s life, ultimately falling victim to the same mysterious crystallization process that wiped out the original Bardoans.

As The 100 nears the end of its seven-season run, the creator and executive producer Jason Rothenberg was joined by cast members Marie Avgeropoulos, Lindsey Morgan, Richard Harmon, Tasya Teles, Shannon Kook, Jr Bourne and Shelby Flannery in a pre-taped panel for Comic-Con@Home to reflect about their time on the CW sci-fi series. In addition to that, Rothenberg gave audiences some vague hints about the backdoor prequel pilot to the series which aired earlier this month.
“We definitely started the season wanting to make sure we didn’t leave anything on the field,” said Rothenberg about wrapping up seven seasons. He added that he recognizes the series leaves a lot of unanswered questions throughout the seasons that he wanted to answer and said that the prequel episode helped “fill in a lot of the blanks”. For example, he pointed out that the episode addressed why the bunker was empty...

Some of The 100 cast and showrunner Jason Rothenberg took place in a pre-recorded panel today for Comic Con at Home in which they chatted about the legacy of this show and what to expect from the latter half of the show’s final season.
“We definitely started this season wanting to make sure we didn’t leave anything on the field, meaning there were certain unanswered questions over the seasons that we wanted to answer,” said showrunner Rothenberg about the plan heading into the seventh season. “And since I know people are seeing this after I think maybe the first 10 episodes have aired, you already have seen the prequel so you know that that episode kind of fills in a lot of blanks. Why was the bunker empty when they opened it in Season 4 just being one sort of question that I always had and we needed to answer this year.

The Disciples’ twisted origin story stole the spotlight during last week’s episode of The 100, but now that we’re back in the present, we should probably talk about Clarke’s (intentionally) understated reaction to the news of Bellamy’s demise.
“She’s devastated by the news that Bellamy is dead,” executive producer Jason Rothenberg tells TVLine, adding that Clarke is “not quite sure in that moment if it’s true. She semi-trusts Gabriel, but her whole mission this season has been about keeping her family together, not losing anybody else. She’s going to spend a while reeling from it,...

The 100's highly anticipated prequel pilot has aired, and now fans are wondering where the series could go next if The CW places a formal order.
If you watch The 100 online, you know The 100 Season 7 Episode 8 filled in many blanks to some of the biggest questions.
The episode ended on a somewhat positive note, with Callie and a large group escaping from the bunker with the aim of searching for other survivors.
Of course, Callie still has to find someone to take the flame.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, which dropped after the episode aired, Jason Rothenberg has opened up about where the show will go next, and it looks like there will be several connections to the soon-to-conclude original series.

While we have yet to find out if The 100 prequel will be picked up as a proper series, we got a sneak peek into what this show would look like in this week’s episode of The 100, which acted as a backdoor pilot for the potential spinoff. Perhaps most importantly, we were introduced to the characters who we would be spending more time with should the show get the greenlight. Let’s dive into who they are and the actors who play them.
Iola Evans as Callie
In backdoor pilot “Anaconda,” we met Callie, an MIT dropout and activist who disagrees with her fathers politics and use of power. When nuclear apocalypse comes, Callie reluctantly goes with her family into the Second Dawn bunker, but chafes against the power structure from the get-go. When Becca is killed by Callie’s father, Bill Cadogan, Callie takes the 2,000 doses of...

The following contains spoilers for The 100 backdoor pilot episode “Anaconda.”
The 100’s backdoor pilot episode “Anaconda” sets up the premise for The CW’s potential prequel series by centering the conflict on a polarizing, post-apocalyptic family: the Cadogans. Cult leader Bill (John Pyper-Ferguon) was already known to viewers, but the episode filled in more of his character, placing him firmly at the Russell Lightbourne end of the spectrum for bad dads on The 100. The heart of the series, however, belongs to his daughter Calliope (Iola Evans), who with her mother Gemma (Crystal Balint) escaped the Second Dawn cult twice over—first before the apocalypse, and again once Becca Franco (Erica Cerra) provided them with the means to survive in the irradiated world.
By the end of the pilot, Becca is burned at the stake, while Callie takes the Flame and a ragtag band of newly-Nightblooded bunker teens out to...

Luna was a character that had a reputation before she ever graced our screens.
She was a loyal friend to Lincoln, and she represented a form of peace that none of the other characters prepared themselves for at the time. She was an unattainable example of doing better on a show that always straddled that line.
But it wasn't until the audience got to see Nadia Hilker embody the role of Luna that her extraordinary presence on the show really started.
Luna was captivating because of how honest she was when it came to making hard choices, which other characters sometimes struggled with themselves. She had her morals, and she was always looking to exist in peace.
This was a strange concept when The 100 always put the other characters in difficult positions with no good choices. But Luna made it look easy; there was a way to just stop killing and to find happiness.

The following contains spoilers for The 100 backdoor pilot episode “Anaconda”.
As backdoor pilots go, The 100 episode “Anaconda” is darn effective. The hour serves as an origin story for the human survivors of Earth’s first nuclear apocalypse, taking us all the way back to the pivotal moment in 2052 when the missiles were launched and a cult-ish group known as the Second Dawn locked themselves underground for protection.
“Anaconda’s” story is compelling in and of itself, following Second Dawn leader Bill Cadogan and his semi-estranged family as they attempt to survive the end of the world and determine what direction the future of the human race will take in the aftermath. The story eventually splits our survivors into two groups – one who will form the ancestors of the Grounder clans we already know, and a second, who will colonize other planets far from Earth.

We have to go back.
Or maybe we don't have to, but we are going back. It's been building up to this, with the history and mythology of The 100 taking us into the past.
But things are never what they seem, which is where the real story begins.
During The 100 Season 7 Episode 8, Cadogan travels back to Earth as he finally meets Clarke and explores what that means.
Meanwhile, a look at the Second Dawn adventures raises questions about what awaits the others with present-day Cadogan and their friends who might be brainwashed now. More information also laid itself out about past seasons of the show and how it ended up that way.
"Anaconda," written by Jason Rothenberg, is creating a world before the world that started it all. It combines the mystery of the Second Dawn bunker with the Anomaly Stone's origins, and it prepares the Grounder storyline for a potential spin-off show.

The 100 fans, mark your calendars for July 8th. This is the broadcast date for the seventh season episode of The 100 that will act as a backdoor pilot for The 100 prequel series in development at The CW.
A backdoor pilot is the industry term for when an episode of an already-existing TV show does double duty as a regular episode and a concept for a spin-off show. The episode and potential series will be set 97 years prior to the events of The 100, shortly after the nuclear apocalypse that ended most life on Earth and sent a portion of humanity into space to wait out the nuclear fallout for the next century.
Jason Rothenberg, who developed The 100 series from the young adult book series of the same name by Kass Morgan, will also be developing the prequel series, alongside Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. Rothenberg wrote the backdoor pilot episode,...

This The 100 review contains spoilers
The 100 Season 7 Episode 4
“Hesperides” proves once again that Sky Ring is the best thing that ever happened to The 100’s storytelling. It continues the seventh and final season’s high bar of storytelling, even if a decision to go for a juicy, plot-twist ending completely trashes what little character development there was for Echo.
The opening act of the show is a lovely wordless version of a lifetime together in the space of just a few minutes. In a way, it’s a heartbreak that we don’t get to see Dev again, but that’s also the kind of story choice where I’m willing to have my heart broken.
For those obsessively tracking who is when and where vis a vis the Anomaly and Planet Beta, we now know what happened to Hope after Diyoza and Octavia were taken presumably to Bardo) and...
