Popular tech demo and review series Soldier Knows Best popped up on Revision3 today, as a part of the network's continuing strategy to cherry pick top YouTube channels like Epic Meal Time and Dan 3.0. The long-running series (since 2008) boasts over 200,000 subscribers and nearly 50 million views on its YouTube page. Mark Watson, the series creator (and an actual Army reservist), hosts a fast paced show covering gadget news, unboxings, and gear reviews. His straightforward, no b.s. approach to product reviews has earned him a reputation as a trusted expert that is both knowledgeable and unintimidating. "I first met Mark at CES this year, though I'd been a fan of his channel for quite a while," said Ryan Vance, VP Programming and Production for Revision3. "He's a great guy and I'm extremely excited to officially welcome him to the Revision3 family of shows!" In the latest episode of Soldier Knows Best,...

The first trailer arrives for the big screen adaptation of David Nicholls’ One Day, starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. And you can see it here…
David Nicholls' novel One Day, in the UK at least, has turned into something of a publishing phenomenon. Still at the top of the sales charts a good year after it first became popular, it helps that it's actually a terrific book (and take a look at the Mark Watson novel, Eleven, if you liked it).
Perhaps inevitably, the movie version is closing in now, although as many have raised, this isn't going to be the easiest of books to turn into film (certainly not as straightforward as the last Nicholls book to make it to the big screen, Starter For Ten. After all, this is the story of two characters, Dexter and Emma, whom we only meet once a year over a period of time.

The next comic to take to the stage for Dave is Mark Watson, although right now he's in Australia. Using the magic of the internet, we spoke to him about his love of Down Under and how a request for pens led to someone losing their home. While we sit on the sofa watching Mark Watson make the funny in his home town of Bristol in Dave's One Night Stand, Mark in real life will be completely unfunny.

Mark Watson has responded to comments made about him by fellow stand-up comedian Frankie Boyle. Boyle called Watson a "c**t" and a "notorious sellout" after he criticised his controversial material. In a column for the New Statesman, Watson welcomed the freedom of speech that now exists for comedians, but explained: "The trouble is, if you don't draw a line somewhere, what may have started out as 'edginess' can quickly turn into mean-spirited bullying of the weakest members of society. "It is hard not to wonder whether comedy's freedom of speech is as much of a step forward as we thought, especially if all it means is that a largely white, middle-class audience gets to laugh at other people whose (more)...

Charity Giving! ActionAid UK charity giving assists those forgotten and impoverished -- [Jan. 5] “Give a man a fish; feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish; feed him for a lifetime.” This ancient Taoist proverb from Lao Tzu is the basis of the philosophy of ActionAid UK. ActionAid helps to improve the lives of people every day by working with them to change the situation which keeps them in poverty. Founded in 1972, ActionAid has been fighting for those in poverty for nearly 40 years, enhancing the lives of nearly 13 million people in Africa, Asia and the Americas. They don’t impose a solution on the people or communities they assist, but rather work with them to find and implement solutions. Photo left: Mark Watson is a comedian in the United Kingdom who helps raise money for ActionAid UK. With the belief that eradicating poverty is not a distant or unachievable...

Mark Watson has suggested that some older comics are "bitter" about the success of younger stand-ups on the circuit. The former Kitchen Burnout contestant told Metro that some comedians resent the opportunities available to up-and-coming acts. Asked if the comedy world was "a bit cliquey", Watson said: "It's less cliquey than acting. There's room for lots of people to do well at the same time - we're not all going for the same part. "Sometimes there's rivalry between the older comics and those of my generation - there's more stand-up on TV now with panel shows and (more)...

Comic Mark Watson has revealed that he pushed Marco Pierre White's composed temperament to the limit on ITV series Kitchen Burnout. The 30-year-old will be seen competing against Ruth Langsford and Elen Rives in this Friday's heat on the reality show. Speaking about his time with the head chef, Watson claimed that his incompetence "tested" White's vow to not shout at the contestants. "Marco always maintains he won't shout or lose his temper. He always repeats, 'Losing your temper is for less successful people'. He makes discipline into a moral thing and a test (more)...

Mark Watson has claimed that Marco Pierre White looked at him with contempt while filming ITV1 reality show Kitchen Burnout. The stand-up comedian said that White was not impressed by his approach to the cookery contest, admitting that he did not strike an immediate bond with the "Alpha male" chef. "He regards me, I think, as a bit of a worm really," said Watson. "Someone who can't cook and has just blundered into his kitchen, which is about right. He looks at me with what appears to be contempt! "He has this peculiar semi-mystical way of talking and presents (more)...

Comedian Mark Watson has defended his appearance in a series of Magners cider adverts, claiming that he needed the money to support his family. The stand-up comic was accused of "selling out" by journalist David Jesudason, who claimed that Watson had "stuck two fingers up to his loyal fans". Jesudason also argued that Watson clearly did not care about the "ills of the world". Watson responded to the criticism in an article on comedy website Chortle, insisting that the adverts have granted him artistic freedom in the long-term. "I like to think I've behaved with reasonable integrity in my career. I've resisted numerous offers to make my 24-hour shows profitable, for example, in the hope of preserving the experience for the people who come to see it," he wrote. (more)...
