Nobody did better with horror franchises than Wes Craven, who reinvigorated the genre in this relentlessly bloody thriller. Its self-referential gimmick should have been exploited decades before: what if the teenagers in movies were like real teenagers that watch horror movies. . . and that must rely on their movie knowledge when confronted with R-rated carnage? 25 years later the show holds up well, at least until the final revelations. Kevin Williamson’s screenplay and Mark Irwin’s camerawork make Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Rose McGowan the most attractive and intelligent horror scream queens since Peggy Cummins tried to kick some sense into Dana Andrews.

Lots of statues were handed out during the 69th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, a night filled with big triumphs and only a few major disappointments. It was an exciting night for diversity, an exciting night for women in front of the camera as well as behind the scenes, and an exciting night for fans of Donald Glover. Below are some of the notable winners and losers from the evening, including one cameo that didn’t do anyone any favors.

We have a busy week of horror and sci-fi entertainment releases to look forward to, especially for those of you cult and indie horror fans out there. Grindhouse Releasing is bringing Lucio Fulci’s insane Cat in the Brain to Blu-ray, and the recent indie thriller Road Games is getting a release on July 12th as well, courtesy of Scream Factory. One of my personal favorites from 2016, Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room arrives on both formats this Tuesday via Lionsgate, and Synapse Films is releasing the recent Creepshow documentary Just Desserts.
Other notable Blu-ray and DVD releases for July 12th include Model Hunger, Slasher: Season One, 13 Cameras, the Steelbook edition of Blood and Black Lace, and Pop Art editions of The Birds, Psycho, and King Kong.

Written by Stephen King and directed by George A. Romero, Creepshow has a special place in many horror fans’ hearts, and this summer, Synapse Films and Red Shirt Pictures will pay tribute to the beloved horror anthology with their Blu-ray release of 2007’s Just Desserts: The Making of Creepshow. Ahead of its July 12th Blu-ray release, we have a look at the film’s release details, cover art, and a set of behind-the-scenes photos:
Press Release: For years, fans have been clamoring for the definite word on the making of George A. Romero’s classic 1982 horror anthology Creepshow, the first of his many big screen collaborations with best-selling novelist Stephen King. Now 34 years later, Synapse Films and Red Shirt Pictures join forces to bring this terrifyingly entertaining story to life in Just Desserts: The Making Of “Creepshow”, a special edition Blu-ray release documenting one of the greatest horror films ever made!

Should an early cancellation put you off watching a TV show in the first place?
Feature
Floating in on the yearly tide of TV renewals is the yearly disappointment of cancellation. However many fingers are crossed or hashtagged prayers are sent, network television’s quest to conquer ever more viewers and awards inevitably has its casualties. Too expensive to make? Not enough viewers? Lukewarm reception from critics? Then sayonara, promising new sci-fi. We hardly knew you.
Almost Human is one such show. A future-set sci-fi take on the buddy cop genre, it received a thirteen-episode season one order from Fox in 2013 and a shed load of pricy promotion for its November the 4th premiere. And then? At the eleventh hour, the premiere was pushed back a fortnight, co-showrunner Naren Shankar left citing “creative differences”, and only four of its thirteen episodes were aired in the intended running order.
Despite some great world-building,...

So happy and yet so sad at the same time. Syfy has just announced its spring schedule, and surprise! The final season of fan favorite Eureka will premiere not in the summer as it usually does, but on April 16. The sooner the better, we say, and we can’t wait.
According to the announcement there are some great shows coming our way, including the second season of Lost Girl, a Treasure Island miniseries, the premieres of Monster Man, Dream Machines, and Total Blackout, the return of Ghost Hunters, Hollywood Treasure, and Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, and of course some Saturday Original Movies. Here are the details:
