Don Lemon appears to have a sweet new deal with social-media giant X.
The former CNN anchor, who parted ways with the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed news outlet last year after he was moved to duties on its morning program, said Tuesday that he had launched a new media company and would be debuting a new program via X.
The new program, “The Don Lemon Show,” will allow him to be “bigger, bolder, freer,” Lemon said in a posting. The show “will be available to everyone, easily, whenever and wherever you want it, streaming on the platforms where conversations are happening. And you’ll find it first on X, the biggest space for free speech in the world. I know now more than ever that we need a place for honest debate and discussion without the hall monitors. This is just the beginning so stay tuned.”

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav addressed the ousting of his handpicked CNN CEO Chris Licht in an internal memo to employees on Wednesday.
“I have known Chris for many years and have enormous respect for him, personally and professionally. This job was never going to be easy, especially at a time of great disruption and transformation, and Chris poured his heart and soul into it,” Zaslav wrote. “He has a deep love for journalism and this business and that has been evident throughout his tenure. Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we had hoped – and ultimately that’s on me. I take responsibility. Chris Licht has exited CNN a little over a year after he was hired as CEO, a short but turbulent tenure at the cable network mired in controversy, plunging ratings and a horribly haywire Donald Trump town hall event that irretrievably broke staff morale.
Licht was handpicked as CEO and Chairman of CNN Worldwide last April by Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav, who announced his firing Wednesday morning in an editorial call. The decision is effective immediately, according to a Wednesday morning release from Wbd.
“I have great respect for Chris, personally and professionally,” Zaslav wrote. “The job of leading CNN was never going to be easy, especially at a time of huge disruption and transformation, and he has poured his heart and soul into it. Warner Bros. Discovery President and CEO David Zaslav signaled confidence in CNN CEO Christ Licht Thursday, despite widespread skepticism of the network’s politically centric embrace, stating that he believes the company is “on the right path.”
“On the news side, we are fighting hard and making real progress as the premier global news organization, and we want it to be the place [for] fact-based reporting and thoughtful discourse that is broader than politics of sport,” Zaslav said on Thursday’s Warner Bros. Discovery earnings call. “We are already seeing a more inclusive range of voices and viewpoints as demonstrated last month, when over 70 Republicans came on our air during the congressional speaker election process – a first in a very long time.”
Zaslav also confirmed the network will continue to embrace this “balanced strategy,” and while the shift won’t be immediate, the Warner Bros. Discovery CEO noted that it is imperative to “get it right.

Cable news giant CNN will be hit by layoffs Wednesday and Thursday, part of continued cost-cutting by parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, which is trying to integrate the legacy WarnerMedia businesses (like CNN) and the Discovery businesses.
In a memo Wednesday morning, CNN CEO Chris Licht wrote that the channel will inform paid contributors Wednesday as part of a new reporting strategy, with full-time employees being informed of their status on Thursday.
“It will be a difficult time for everyone,” Licht wrote.

“CNN This Morning” host Don Lemon is pushing back against the criticism that the cable network skews liberal.
“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert asked Lemon during Monday’s episode about his new boss, CEO Chris Licht, who has made sweeping programming changes at CNN. Prior to taking over for Jeff Zucker in May, Licht coincidentally served as showrunner and executive producer on “The Late Show.”
“He would stand right over there and hit the applause sign before we went to commercial — basically all his job was. Now he has a really hard job, running CNN,” Colbert said. “The word on the street is you guys aren’t allowed to be liberal anymore. Is that the case?”
“I don’t think we ever were liberal,” Lemon replied.
“What?” Colbert said. “That’s not me saying that, that’s the people out there saying he’s not letting you be liberal anymore.

CNN Chairman and CEO Chris Licht on Wednesday warned staffers that there would be “noticeable change” to the network that will affect employees, budgets and projects.
In a memo, Licht wrote, “There is widespread concern over the global economic outlook, and we must factor that risk into our long-term planning. All this together will mean noticeable change to this organization. That, by definition, is unsettling. These changes will not be easy because they will affect people, budgets, and projects.
“We will be strategic in this process and will minimize the impact on our core newsgathering operation and digital, both of which have already executed smart changes,” he wrote. “Let me be clear: I will not allow these changes to affect our position as the world’s leading news source, and we will continue to invest in growth areas. When we conclude this process, CNN will still be the largest, most-respected newsgathering organization in the world.

CNN is looking to cut costs by year’s end, including staff layoffs throughout the company, network chief Chris Licht announced in an all-staff memo Wednesday, the Chairman and CEO’s first sweeping move to reform the news network since taking control less than six months ago.

Jim Acosta will not exit CNN, an individual very close to CNN’s CEO and chairman, Chris Licht, told TheWrap Sunday — swatting down talk about an imminent exit for the chief domestic correspondent and weekend anchor who has become a lightning rod for network critics, particularly on the political right.
Speculation grew after News Cycle Media president Jon Nicosia tweeted that he had a scoop on the next “big name” to leave CNN, and identified the person as Acosta on Friday. After Mediaite reported Sunday that the rumors were “absolute bulls—,” the source close to CNN leadership confirmed that there are no plans for Acosta to leave the netowrk.
The rumors come two months after the abrupt exits of prize-winning Washington reporter John Harwood and media reporter Brian Stelter along with the cancellation of Stelter’s Sunday morning show, “Reliable Sources.” At the time, TheWrap reported exclusively that Don Lemon...

To CNN employees, the most surprising thing about the channel’s morning show announcement was how surprising it was.
CNN’s culture has, for years, been leaky, and big news has often found a way to trickle out. The morning shake-up, which will see Don Lemon depart 10 p.m. for the mornings, joined by veteran anchor Poppy Harlow and White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins, came as a shock to two CNN sources The Hollywood Reporter spoke to (some CNN staff were convinced Lemon would be shown the door by new management).
But maybe it shouldn’t have. Licht, after all, told CNN employees on a daily editorial call after the cancellation of Reliable Sources that they should tune out reporting on the channel, and that no one outside of himself and a select group of CNN executives had any insight into their programming plans and strategy.

After twenty or so minutes of calm debate on the economy, Wednesday night's CNBC Republican Presidential Debate turned ugly, as moderators Maria Bartiromo and John Harwood asked embattled frontrunner Herman Cain about the sexual harassment allegations being leveled at him, then followed by asking Mitt Romney if he would have retained Cain as a CEO in one of his businesses. On CNBC's Squawk Box this morning, John Harwood seemed both far too tired to engage in jokes comparing members of the Tea Party to "terrorists" and quite convinced that voters, before too long, will forget the debt deal that will likely go to President Obama today. "It will be forgotten by voters pretty quickly," said Harwood. "Everybody took a hit. It was not good for President Obama. It wasn't good for John Boehner. But at the end of the day, they got something done. Remember, John Boehner knew as soon as he became Speaker after the election that this issue in particular was going to be like waterboarding for him. Because he--you had the impulses of his newly elected members and many conservatives in his caucus, everybody in Congress hates the debt ceiling. Everyone. But he knew that it had to pass eventually."...

TMZ has released an audiotape which records President Barack Obama slamming Kanye West for insulting Taylor Swift at 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. The off-the-record audio was made before he had an interview with CNBC in the White House on Monday, September 14.
Asked by the network's reporter John Harwood if his two daughters were upset when watching West interrupting Swift's award acceptance speech on Sunday night, September 13, the U.S. president admitted, "I thought that was really inappropriate." Then, he continued, "You know, it was like, she's getting an award and what are you butting in?"
"The young lady seems like a perfectly nice person, she's getting her award and what's he doing up there? He's a jackass," Obama added. Soon after that, all the camera's crew and people in the palace laughed at his candor. Later, Obama continued telling CNBC in an audiotape released by TMZ, "C'mon guys. Cut the president some slack.

Today will be a big day for Barack Obama: he is set to reveal his plan to restructure banking regulation and he will also approve health care and other benefits for the same-sex partners of federal employees.
