Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox has pledged she will never wed again - because she doesn't understand the point of marriage.
The 53-year-old married Hare Krishna monk Radha Raman in 1984, only to divorce him a year later, and in 1988 she wed Israeli film producer Uri Fruchtmann - the father of her two daughters, Lola, 17, and Tali, 15 - before splitting with him in 2000.
And after suffering two failed marriages, the Scottish star has sworn off matrimony altogether.
She explains, "No more marriage for me. I don't see the point of it. It's not that I'm such a cynic. To share one's life with someone is a beautiful thing.
"But for the moment, I'm a single person. That's not to say I wouldn't like to have a special relationship with someone.
"But I haven't made a great job of it in the past. It would be pretty challenging to share my world. Life is pretty full."...

There is a lot of subversive fun to be had in the comedy-thriller "High Heels and Lowlifes", a refreshingly engaging British movie that isn't afraid to go all out for laughs and thrills, leaving its social conscience behind. Kim Fuller's fast-moving script also offers up two great roles for stars Minnie Driver and Mary McCormack. Driver again displays her skill at comedy line-delivery and, as her partner-in-crime, McCormack makes the most of her role.
"High Heels and Lowlifes", which should click well with U.K. audiences, could equally make the transition to the international marketplace, where Driver has a profile and a sexy comedy is ripe for promotion. Buena Vista is scheduled to release the film in the United States next year.
Director Mel Smith knows his comedy ("Bean" was a massive success, and as an actor-performer, he is well-known on film and television) and works well to bring out the best from the script and performers.
Driver plays Shannon, a London nurse who lives with a boyfriend who spends most of his time recording from his radio scanner. McCormack is her best friend Frances, an American actress struggling to break into the big time. One evening, Shannon and Frances overhear a mobile-phone conversation between gang members involved in a bank robbery in their neighborhood. When the police pay no attention to their story, the duo decide, as a dare, to call the gang and demand money in return for not revealing their identities.
Their plan is to extort a little money for new clothes and perhaps some equipment for Shannon's hospital. But the hardened criminals are prepared to kill rather than give away any money. As the stakes rise, the women get further drawn into their scheme and finally are faced with the decision whether to run for their lives or take on the gangsters on their home turf.
The mobsters, led by Mason (Kevin McNally), make an attempt to kill the duo, so Shannon and Frances take the fight to Mason's boss Kerrigan (Michael Gambon, clearly having fun as a sleazy gangster) and break into his house.
Fuller's heroines are sassy and determined, but certainly no superheroes. (McCormack snaps all of her plastic credit cards trying to break into an apartment, while Driver is knocked flat on her back trying to shoot a machine gun.) McNally plays the villain as ruthless and evil. Mark Williams and Kevin Eldon make a strong impact as inept cops.
Smith -- who allows himself an Alfred Hitchcock-like cameo -- makes fine use of London locations, shooting in trendy areas of Hoxton and Hackney, which are rarely seen on the big screen, as well as using nice aerial photography.

The crowd-pleasing, relatively lightweight closing-night film of the dramatically uneven 52nd Cannes International Film Festival, "An Ideal Husband" is a late-19th-century romantic comedy based on an Oscar Wilde play. The upcoming Miramax release has solid boxoffice potential with adult audiences.
Cate Blanchett and Rupert Everett headline the small but fine cast allowed to pitch the material at an involvingly brisk pace under the light-handed direction of Oliver Parker ("Othello"). Lushly mounted but largely a chamber piece, "Ideal Husband" concerns the efforts of eligible bachelor Lord Arthur Goring (Everett) to preserve the marriage and career of his friend, politician Sir Robert Chiltern (Jeremy Northam).
Married to Lady Gertrude Chiltern (Blanchett), Robert is blackmailed by devious Mrs. Cheveley (Julianne Moore), who possesses knowledge of a secret in his past. She wants his support for an expensive boondoggle, knowing that Gertrude will be devastated if she learns Robert deceived her in any way.
The privileged lives of the upper crust leads are shaken by forged notes, conversations overheard by the wrong parties and shocking revelations. While Robert struggles with his conscience, Cheveley sets her sights on becoming Lady Arthur Goring. Unaware of the simmering scandal, Arthur's Father John Wood) encourages the reluctant bachelor to choose a wife.
Robert's sister Mabel (Minnie Driver) also has a crush on Arthur, but he is tempted by Cheveley's seductive final offer and wrongly assumed of betraying Robert before things get sorted out in the happy ending.
Underplaying the character but looking fabulous in formal wear, Everett stands to gain the most from such a plum role as he embodies the kind of wily but impossibly well-groomed rogue to which one's attention naturally gravitates. The scenario's most resonant, serious emotional material is reserved for Robert and Gertrude's marital crisis when she realizes he's not the ideal husband and waits to see how he resolves the threat posed by Cheveley.
Blanchett, Driver and Moore are well-cast and look great in Caroline Harris' costumes. Filmed on location and at Leavesden Studios in Herts, England, "Ideal Husband" is an evocative re-creation of the times, thanks to the luxurious production design of Michael Howells ("Ever After").
