It’s been confirmed that a new movie called Official Secrets has recruited two of the biggest stars in the movie industry: the guy whom princesses find hard to resist, Harrison Ford, and the man who played the most famous cannibalistic serial killer in film history, Anthony Hopkins.
Produced by Elizabeth Fowler, the spy thriller boasts a cast that also includes Paul Bettany (The Avengers), Natalie Dormer (The Hunger Games, Game of Thrones) and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Sherlock).
Official Secrets is based on the best-selling book and true story The Spy Who Tried To Stop A War: Katherine Gun and The Secret Plot to Sanction the Iraq Invasion.
Here’s the official synopsis of the book:
British secret service officer Katharine Gun's only crime was telling the truth, but she paid a steep price when she exposed a U.S.-U.K. spy operation to secure Un authorization for the Iraq invasion.

Image Entertainment has acquired the Toronto title Devil’s Knot and will release it in second-quarter 2014. The Atom Egoyan-directed film stars Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Amy Ryan, Mireille Enos, and Stephen Moyer. Image’s Chief Acquisition Officer Bill Bromiley made the deal with CAA and Wme on behalf of financier Worldview Entertainment. The film is the story of three teenagers accused of the brutal 1993 murder of three 8-year-old boys in Memphis, Ark. — two of them sentenced to life imprisonment and one to death even though there was not a shred of physical evidence. The film explores the lives of deeply misunderstood outsiders, their families and communities, and the hysterics that drove the trial. The conviction of the West Memphis 3 — Damien Echols, Jesse Misskelley Jr, and Jason Baldwin — riled the American justice system, shocked a tightly knit religious town and outraged the nation. Elizabeth Fowler (“Devil’s Knot”) and Claudia Bluemhuber (“The Host”) are set to produce a film about the rescue of Jessica Buchanan in Somalia last year.
The pair have acquired the film rights to Buchanan's book "Impossible Odds" published last month, as well as the life rights to her and her husband Erik Landemalm.
Administering humanitarian aid in East Africa, Buchanan and Danish citizen Poul Hagen Thisted were kidnapped in October 2011 by a band of Somalia land pirates.
Buchanan fought to stay alive as her husband worked with the FBI and U.S. military. A Navy Seal Team attacked the pirates’ compound and successfully rescued Buchanan and Thisted.
Anthony Flacco, who co-wrote the book, will pen the screenplay. Sharlene Martin will also produce.

Atom Egoyan has been invited to Sundance as a filmmaker Next of Kin (Sundance ’87), Exotica (Sundance ’95), producer, juror and the list goes on, but the chances are less than likely that he shows up with his latest — as it comes across more like a Tiff, award season title. So why include a completed project that has long been in the works and whose relevance might be in question because of the intense film treatments it has received from the docu world with the Paradise Lost trilogy and West of Memphis? Simple. I’m thinking that the pro-active fest would want a narrative feature that not only continues this discussion but might contribute to the current aftermath a la The Thin Blue Line. Devil’s Knot has heavyweights Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth are joined by Alessandro Nivola, Amy Ryan, Matt Letscher, Michael Gladis, Stephen Moyer, Rex Linn and Bruce Greenwood.

Linn will play Chief Inspector Gary Gitchell in the Atom Egoyen-directed feature about the wrongfully convicted and wrongly imprisoned West Memphis 3. He joins Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon Alessandro Nivola and more in the film. The real-life Gitchell, who left the Memphis police force a few months after the three teens’ convictions in an Arkansas triple homicide, was the lead investigator in the 1993 case. Linn played Detective Frank Tripp on CSI: Miami, which CBS cancelled last month after 10 seasons. Linn also appears in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Django Unchained. Elizabeth Fowler, Clark Peterson, Richard Saperstein and Christopher Woodrow are producing Devil’s Knot. Oscar-nominated writer Keir Pearson will be making his directorial debut with an adaptation of Mara Leveritt‘s non-fiction novel, The Boys on the Tracks. Variety also reports that the scribe will be producing the project alongside Elizabeth Fowler.
The novel depicts the “true story of Linda Ives’ journey to learn the truth about the murder of her teenage son, which thrusts her into the largest cocaine smuggling and gun-running operation in U.S. history.” The project will also deal with “CIA-related conspiracy theories and ultimately concerns the Iran-Contra Scandal.” This will be the first feature film dealing with this subject matter.
Judging by his past work on Hotel Rwanda, the touchy subject matter shouldn’t be a problem for Pearson. Fowler gushed about the scribe stating, “Keir wrote a very powerful script and he is absolutely the best person to bring this incredible true story — that plays out like a Grisham thriller — to life.

Atom Egoyan’s forthcoming movie about the West Memphis Three has been in the works for quite some time, but it hasn’t had an actor in the cast. Now Deadline is reporting that Reese Witherspoon has role in The Devil’s Knot, a film that will be based on reporter Mara Leveritt‘s 2003 nonfiction book which chronicled the 1994 trials that put two teenagers in prison for life and another on death row for the murder of three eight-year-old boys, despite a lack of physical evidence. The trial of The West Memphis Three was one of the greatest atrocisities in the American Justice system. Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley Jr. (better known as The West Memphis Three) were convicted partly because of their interest in the occult and heavy metal music; the prosecution argued that the murders were part of a Satanic ritual. The case and the men...

Last week Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr. aka The West Memphis Three were all released from jail after 18 years. Their story inspired the documentary titled Paradise Lost in 1996. That film told of how the three young men had been tried and convicted for the murders of three eight-year-old boys in 1993, despite a lack of any physical evidence. In the past the three were convicted because they were supposedly connected to Satanist leanings and interests in metal and the occult. Although the three were freed, they were not completely absolved and had to plead guilty to the murders.
Now Canadian Filmmaker Atom Egoyan has announced his plans to make a dramatic film based on their story.
